[Q] Rooting my Samsung Galaxy Young - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

Can someone help me in rooting my samsung galaxy y? im a noob in rooting phones Can somebody tell me what to do and what file do i need in rooting a phone? and what firmware can i root on these phone.
Here's the information:
Android version: 2.3.6
Baseband version: S5360DXLC1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] 175#1
Build number: GINGERBREAD.DXLC1
Thanks in advance

first, download the attached file below and place it in your SD card (not in folder)
second, turn off your phone and go to recovery mode by pressing volume up + power button + home button all at the same time
use the volume up and down keys as your scroll keys
and choose "update from sd card"
now you will be asked to choose a file to install after that select the "update.zip" that you have placed on your sd and just reboot the phone
you are rooted when you see a "superuser app" (installed) in the app drawer

Attached File
What custom rom is in the file update.zip?
Thanks sir

It isn't custom rom it will only provide you root access on your current rom

bro!! you're getting it all wrong!! to "root" means to be able to access all commands and restricted system files on your phone.
custom roms are "flashed" <--- proper term

So the first step to flash a custom rom is to root your phone?

yes, you are correct
here's an analogy:
an unrooted phone is like a pc user logged on as a "guest user"
guest users have very limited pc control.
meanwhile a rooted phone is like a pc user logged on as "administrator"
you can install programs and almost anything without restrictions

kindly read about "CWM" clockwork mod recovery because it is used to back up all your system files (your entire phone data)
ps: make a cwm back up before installing custom roms
either by madteam or by skins1980

What's the compatible clock work mod for my phone? my firmware is DXLC1

just follow the rooting process but this time after "applying update from sd card"
you should choose the "skin1980cwm.zip" instead
after choosing, it will bring you to another interface (has yellow fonts)
using the volume up and down key, scroll to the "back up and restore" option and just choose "back up"
bro, here's a video demo:

already doing it now, do i need to reboot system now if the backup process is done?

yup, just choose reboot
after that you are all set to try different custom roms
i recommend hybrid 2.0 and creed's 2.0

There is a "How to" thread about this in general SGW topic (here).
You have to do everything like written there, the only thing is you have to use your custom downloaded ROM instead of those.

It's best practice to always backup the whole system via nandroid before doing anything so that you could always revert to your backup just in case things don't go as planned. There are a bunch of apps to backup your apps and data like Titanium Backup and MyBackup.

CWM for Xperia S/Acro HD

here's a quick and very easy guide on how to install CWM on Xperia 2012 line ups.
just download the CWM install file
SO-03D / Acro S here
Xperia S here (big props to PuriketsuAngel)
unzip folder
connect phone normally via USB to your PC
go to unzipped folder, execute install.bat
that's it, CWM installed.
to go to recovery mode - just restart device (turn off, turn on) and while on the SE logo, simply tap the screen of your phone several times.
up and down volume keys will serve as your directional keys, camera button will serve as "select/ok" key.
and yep, back and home buttons work within the CWM environment.
note: when you choose to restart/reboot system now while on CWM screen, phone will turn off.(it does on mine). just restart normally - like pressing on the power button to turn it on.
Device must be rooted. we got a tut on how to root your device even on locked BL here
N O T E
This is a work around if restoring from previous back up is giving you error.
Back up :
Before doing a NAND back up - please do a manual reset of your device - no additional Apps must be installed. Also clear/delete any left over folders from your SD card.
Restart device then tap screen several times - once in CWM - clear cache/dalvik cache.
Then and only here would you do a back up for your ROM.
Restore :
Before doing a restore - please do a manual reset of your device - turn device off, hold vol-up and power button at the same time until you get 3 vibrates.
Now you can do restore.
if this CWM version is still giving you errors : please provide a detailed account of the error message, a logcat will be appreciated.

Good to hear. But I will wait for someone to confirm this. Kinda scared (I had another device, and modded it a lot, but I'm quite noob to XS yet)
nothing to be scared about. the guide is fairly easy to follow and no special key combination required. the process just installs CWM on your recovery partition.

If they use stock kernel, yes.
Good point... let's hope someone find a way to unlock the BL or start making cool roms for stock kernel
EDIT:
Som questions regarding this:
- If we reflash the firmware, we lose cwm?
if not, I know we lose root, but with cwm can we root again?
PS: somehow now I have a backup I feel safer xD

[Q] HTC One X with 4.1.1 root issues

My One X got OTA uograde to 4.1.1. I'm trying to get root acess to install a custom rom, but it seems not to work. I've been trying several guides, but all of them refering to putting the phone in "charge only" mode when connecting it to USB. This option is no longer available in Jelly Bean...
My bootloader is unlocked, but the rooting process doesn't seem to work on my phone. I've been trying this.
Have anyone successfully rooted a stock 4.1.1-upgradet One X?
It should work and it's the same process, not sure what guide you're following or where it fails, because you neglected to mention.

I did mention in the link above. The guide from this forum...
On my phone using xda app, I just get taken to the list of One X sub forums.
You still haven't said at what point you got to or how it fails.
It fails when trying to copy files... Doesnt seems to get access. I think maybe this has to do with usb connection mode. Not able to put in charge only...

I seem to have the same problem...still checking it out

Yes the recovery takes care of that. Root only applies to everything inside the rom and stands loose from the bootloader and recovery.
Just enter the recovery and tap backup & restore and continue to make a backup. Then you can also copy the clockworkmod folder from the sdcard to the pc just to be safe........

ran kingo root
problems are:
disables the rotation sensor (cant want videos sideways)
on boot root triangle is shown(haven't tried root triangle go away yet (but disappears when you flash stock rom)
cant update SuperSu binary (manually, automatically, Superuser version fails too)
We still need CWM if anyone could help me I've setup Ubuntu (dual boot) and already made a custom rom with root using android kitchen but cannot flash it as need Recovery (odin cant execute the on flash scripts that the android kitchen compiles with the roms)

Help is on the way Which firmware is actually installed? Which method to you use to root your phone? Please post the exact way you try it and the files you use for it.
EDIT:
Okay, lets shorten this a little bit.
Flash "Temporary CWM" and then flash SuperSU from your INTERNAL sd card using Temporary CWM.

Great idea. Youtube tutorials are kinda crappy. You should be able to FIND and READ the solution on your own or at least post the right request/question before you start modding your phone.
BTW
Ace II has kernel/recovery on the same partition. So if you want to use a permanent custom recovery you will need to flash another kernel (compatible with your stock rom) or a custom rom (probably the best you can do to your phone).
