I'm running team nocturnal's themed OTA Stock, and I have no apps that manage any of my radios such as green power or juice defender, but while my WiFi is connected it will suddenly drop and give me an error of not being able to establish connection. Or while I am actually using it, it will drop, the 3g will kick in then my WiFi kicks back in under a minute. I'm not sure if it is the Rom and I have updated to the newest radios. And my router seems fine since it happens to nothing else connected to it. Any ideas?
TLDR= WiFi is broke, helpz?

I had the same promlem a while ago on an AOSP ROM (can't remember which one), but my WiFi drop only came while sleeping. When I'd wake the phone up, it would show no WiFi connection for about a second, then WiFi would kick in. I could never find out why and have since moved to ICS ROMs, but we seem to be in a similar boat.
Here how a cap of the error of anyone knows how to solve it

double check that you dont have any conflicting scripts running, and try redownloading your kernel, double check that md5sum matches and reapply the zip in recovery after clearing cache and dalvik a few times.

I'm running cm7 nightly v28. For some reason the 3g does no work. The only way I can access data is to pick up some 4g. Is this a common problem? Fix?
Reflash the rom. I haven't had the issue but that could work.

Reflash the rom, and if its not in your power widget, check mobile data under wifi settings.
Sometimes mine do go right away so I turn it off and on quickly and that seems to do the trick.

Thanks for the responses. I tried reflashing but that didn't work. The turned mobile data on and off but got nothing. I even tried going in airplane mode and then out and nada. I think I might try flashing a different rom to get it working. Could it also be my PRL?
Its shouldn't affect it, but being on the latest PRL never hurts.
Make sure that its on in wireless networks...
This is my EVO, there are many like it, but this one is mine....
Mobile network is stuck on turning on -__-
Well try to reboot it real quick. And sometimes it can take it a minute or two to actually turn on.
I've rebooted several times. I've done full wipes and even to different roms. It just won't budge. :-/
I was having issues with 3G connectivity earlier. Getting lots of code 67's and data call notices. 4G was working fine so I switched on and used that. 3G is fine and back to normal now.

Did anyone come up with a concrete answer on this issue? I too have this problem and tried all the suggestions except 4g... it's not available in my area. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
Try flashing a sense rom and updating your profile and prl

This started happening to me couple days ago. My phone is connected to wifi at home, and whenever I want to use my phone after its been in idle, everything looks normal. The wifi signal is there, but there is no data, I cannot check email, browse internet, anything with data. Only way to fix it is to reboot or turn wifi off and then back on. Everything is fine when I'm on 3g, there are none of these issues. I am on Calk 2.7 (not 2.8) with the latest kernal, EL28 (I think thats the latest).
If I have an app running in the back that is constantly using data (google music) (recall, ONLY on wifi, NOT 3G), the app stops working whenever the phone goes into idle, I guess. Basically leaving a data consuming app ruining in the background did not help the issue.
I have tried searching, and some other people have experienced the issue on different devices (NOT epic touch), but no threads offer any solution(s).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this issue on my previous epic touch and I took it back and exchanged for another one and the one I have now doesn't do it. It had the same problem u describe. Might want to check your router first though since it just started. Mine always did it and it did it on other Wifi networks. Good luck.

I've seen this happen on four different E4GTs. It seems random and only occasional. I've seen it on EG30 and EK02 stock, I haven't tried other "modems" or roms yet. I'm not sure what causes it, but a quick wifi toggle seems to fix it. Seems like the wifi radio just sort of "freezes. " Wifi sleep policy set to never, doesn't seem to make a difference. Minor annoyance.

What baseband are your running? Have you tired another baseband?
I didn't think the modem has anything to do with wifi. I have this issue on certain wifi networks I use. I have made tweaks to see if it is security settings or what but haven't figured out a pattern yet. I use a wifi widget and it looks like DHCP hangs up cuz it won't give it an IP. I reboot the wifi router and it works right after evertime. I will sometimes powercycle wifi on the phone and it will work. I really think it is a wifi router setting for the network but not sure which yet.
So I've noticed on every stock GB ROM and every custom ROM ive tried (including some early ics roms) that whenever my phone decides to switch from 4g to 3g or if I switch the wifi off, basically every time the radio switches, the internet stops loading whatever it was loading. does anyone else have this issue? It gets pretty annoying sometimes although coverage has been pretty good lately.
I could try and list all the roms ive used but it doesnt matter, the problem is consistent.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
from what i've read, it's just an inherent problem with this, and most, phones that are capable of using both networks, when forced to switch from one to the other, the "handoff" is never clean.

Ok, so I started a market download over wifi. Turned the wifi off at 10%. Now it starts trying to connect 3g first, which connects almost instantly and the download resumes. But when 4g connects a second later, it just goes to sleep and the download stays where its at until something else wakes up the 4g. Not a huge deal I guess just bothersome that it even happens.

I wrote a download manager before and made the download thread delay and re-attempt if the connection was by abolished. Maybe stock touchwiz browser doesn't do that

Guys, my wifi is acting really really weird lately.
I flashed aokp m4 with franco r98, and it works perfectly with my home wifi. But at school, it would not connect even though in wifi settings the phone can see the wifi and its full bars. I stood next to a friend with a gnex unrooted and stock Rogers rom, and he has full bars. While on my phone, it just says that the network is saved. I have been able to access the wifi before back when I had stock. So I decided to try my cwm backup of my stock rooted and still no use. wont connect.
Last try i made was to reflash google 4.0.2 stock image and lock bootloader, and try it with the factory rom. NOPE, no help at all..
Right now, Im back home on my wifi, full bars, and no problems watsoever running m2 with r98 again. but still...why???!!!
Is it hardware issue? How can I test and check!!! i really need this solved...as wifi is like a necessity in life these days LOL
Also, I tried foxhound before i went to stock, and still wont connect to school wifi.
One more thing, there is like one spot to two in school that i would get 1 tiny dot of wifi, whereas every other phone around me including the ipods have full bars...SOooo, any fixes?
anyone help ?

Before you flashed your custom rom did it work at school?
If it works at home, then it probably isn't a hardware issue... maybe check your wifi settings and try putting the frequency at 2.5 Ghz instead of auto? Or try to put it at 5.0 Ghz?
Maybe there are some Wi-Fi apps you can try searching for in the market that gives you more information?
You sure you're typing the correct password?

a week before I was on aokp m4 with r98 and things were fine. this week, the problems began. tried changing the accepted frequency, tried srock rom, tried stocj rooted, tried using someone else's sign in info. what wifi app should i get...thanks for the reply

I'm not exactly sure about the wifi diagnostics app, I just got my phone a couple days ago
I'd say just download some random one's for now. See if the signal that it's reporting is different. Maybe long press the network name and select "forget", then try again?
Are you not getting enough bars? Or can you just can't connect to the AP?
Hello, I've been having a problem with wifi on all new 4.2 roms over the last week or so. For an unknown reason, I can connect with phone data but attempts to get on wifi have been mostly unsuccessful. WiFi just says "obtaining IP address" but eventually times out and starts authenticating again. I have tried wiping everything with 3 different roms and now I'm on Tasks AOKP rom (12/23 with stock kernel) and having the same problem. I've tried all available Canadian modems with the same results (data is best for me on LLH1 though). If I switch back to CM10 (12/16) my wifi works perfectly.
I can get wifi if I mash the on off a few times as it usually causes a force reboot and when it boots I get wifi about 50% of the time. Attempts to modify router settings and reboot my hardware have been futile.
Anyway, I'm hoping one of you is interested enough to peruse the log I saved using "wlan" as a filter. I don't know if that's the best filter but it seemed to show the gist of it. Thank you in advance!

I'm having the same issue task aokp 12/23. Also, if I try to toggle the wifi in the settings screen, it reboots the phone.
However you might try to do this. This morning, I flashed the 12/23 kernal found in task's op. I can toggle wifi on/off now without issue. But i'm not anywhere near wifi to check if it connects.
I found WiFi at target and I'm posting from it. It connected right away.
So, flashing the kernel alone after flashing the ROM, fixed my problem
If you were having the same problem as me, I have to wonder if disconnecting and attempting to reconnect will work.
I downloaded tasks 12/23 underwear kernel, booted to recovery, wiped cache/davlik, flashed only kernel, wiped cache/davlik and rebooted. Tried toggling wifi a dozen times, phone crashed, rebooted, still can't get IP. I imagine that if I play with it long enough I'll get wifi back temporarily, but I use wifi more than data so I'd like it to work better if it can.

Back at home, I can't connect to wifi.
Edit. randomly tried it again, and it connected instantly.
Yeah. I've spent a lot of time troubleshooting router settings (channels, signal type etc) and have thought on several occasions that I had fixed it, but shortly after found that it was a one time connect. I have a spare router in storage that I'm going to try, soon, and that should help me decide if it's a router problem or a JB issue.

Well, no need to play with the router I have managed to obtain flawless wifi, but not on Tasks rom. The 12/27 illusion rom works great, but I can't get mobile data working on it. I switched back to tasks with hope that a future update sets the wifi straight.

I tried the official CM10.1 12/28 nightly this morning and quickly discovered that wifi was working great. I was able to turn it on/off multiple times and reboot without issue. I flashed a different Canadian modem and reflashed tasks AOKP rom (no kernel, no gapps) and wifi was broken again. That logcat makes me think it's something to do with how the rom is handling DHCP requests, but I'm a noob and hardly know anything about any of this stuff.
A nan restore to my AOKP rom got all my stuff back, but it's takes me a solid 30 minutes to get wifi connected.

I updated to tasks AOKP 1/1/13 and my wifi is working perfectly! I considered switching back to 12/12/23 to see if it was the build, but who cares?!
This issue is resolved.
