Phone locked with pattern lock - Desire General

Hey Friends !
My friend messed up with pattern lock of HTC DESIRE and tried many wrong pattern and now phone locked and asking gmail password to unlock, unfortunately he forgot his gmail password since no longer using gmail.
Please help any solution for this to unlock phone ?
Thanks in advance !
Sorry, if already there is related thread.

Probably the only way he can do this without losing his data is to go to gmail and use the can't access your account link to retrieve his password. Otherwise you'll have to factory reset the phone. There may be other ways which i am unsure though.

On the unlock screen, attempt to enter your unlock pattern five times. When prompted to wait for 30 seconds, tap OK. If the display goes off, press the POWER button to turn the display back on, and then press the bar on the lock screen and slide your finger down to unlock the screen. Tap the Forgot Pattern button in the lower right corner when it appears. Enter your Google Account name and password, and then tap Sign in. You are then prompted to create a new screen unlock pattern. If you no longer want to use a screen unlock pattern to secure your phone, tap Cancel.

I know u dont remember the account but maybe theres some other option there.

Try nandroid backup your phone and see if you can extract the data out. For recovery, turn the phone off, press Vol down while pressing the power button and press volume button to point recovery and confirm with power button.

You can also delete the gesture.key to remove the pattern lock via adb.
If USB debugging is enabled :
Code:
adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key
If not, go on recovery, mount all and delete gesture.key with adb !
Or crack it http://forensics.spreitzenbarth.de/2012/02/28/cracking-the-pattern-lock-on-android/ a bit difficult.

how to unlock htc touch without password

Friends,
I've just joined the forum. My HTC touch has just been locked itself and I can't unlock it because I didn't set a password. I still can receive calls but can't make calls, the screen is password screen, nothing else. I can't shut it down without removing the battery.
I tried PIN, PUK, IMEI, 0000, 1234, etc but didn't work. I tried soft reset but didn't help. Tried hard reset but it didn't reset. I tried the SIM card in other phones, it works, thus, the problem is the device.
Any help will be appreciated...

You want to double check about that hard reset. I think you've probably only done a soft reset. A hard reset will reset the machine back and wipe off ALL your data and settings, including the password.
The front screen password of which you are referring to NOT any of the ones you have listed, but instead it is something you would have set when setting up the device.
Have a try with some of your usual passwords
I have tried hard reset (pushing green and red buttons at the same time pushing the reset button with its own pen) but, didn't reset (since there appeared no message on the screen like "the data will be lost"). I think those two buttons are not functional because of password. Every time I tried hard reset it has done the soft one.
thanks anyway

I'd suggest you query this in the HTC Touch forum rather than the General Forum for everything, as they have more intimate knowledge to help you
Hi there, my HTC touch just did the same today. I never set a password.
I contacted my IT guy and he mentioned the following:
Try number 1 once, and then tap unlock.
WORKED BRILLIANTLY!!
The HTC Touch does that all the time.
All you need to do is hold down the Send and End Call buttons down firmly and push the stylus up in the little hole near the usb port (Reset Button) and wait till the screen says that the phone is going to format and all data will be lost press the soft key to continue. Then when it says that press the center button and it will show Fat formatting and Rom formatting. This will erase all data on your touch so make sure you back up.
After turn on the phone and go through the set up and it should be perfectly ok.
You can do this for two reasons.
1. To reset the phone locks.
2. To repair the touch screen if it stops working.
Hope this helps. Enjoy
Dotybizz, I guess the O/P wanted a way to recover without wiping his data. However, due to the security reasons I'm sure you know about often that isn't a suitable option.
Not working

I tried but fails. Can you advice something more. I need it badly man.
solve = hard reset
for hard reset press volume down button + center button + red reset button
A Hard Reset restores the device to its default settings - the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on the device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
There are 2 ways to perform a Hard Reset on this device:
Menu path
* 1. From the Today Screen, go to Start>Settings.Select the System Tab and then tap on Clear Storage.
* 2. Enter in the password provided on the display of the device (should be 1234) and tap Yes.
* 3. The device will begin the Master Reset Process.
Keystroke Method
* 1. Power the device off.
* 2. Press and hold the Volume Down and Center Navigation Button at same time, do not release.
* 3. Press Power button and hold for a 3 count (quickly - say one thousand one, one thousand two, one thousand three). 1-2 seconds is too short, 4-5 seconds is too long.
* 4. The screen will instantly show the text to hard reset (this is a white screen with Blue text that provides the next steps to complete the Hard Reset. If you do not get this screen, power the device off and try again).
* o Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Please ensure any additional installed programs and/or user data is backed up before proceeding.

It happened with me once but the device unlocked when I entered my google username and password(and amazingly without any data connection)..
I think it matches the username and password stored in the device(used 2 connect 2 android market,2 sync data etc) to verify(may be thats why it didn't need any data connection..
try this :
-->If u use any different password along with your google account username to connect to 'htc hub' and/or 'htc likes' try those(i don't remember which i used)..
-->try entering null as password. (together with your google username)
-->try entering your username without @gmail.com
-->use both of above two steps together
-->try changing ur google account password via computer and try again..
-->go to htcsense.com and click forget password under sign in and reset ur password following the link sent to ur gmail and then try again
-->Call yourself from another phone, answer, without hanging up press the home button, then menu button, settings, try to disable pattern-lock or change pattern
-->Call yourself from another phone, answer, hang-up, directly after hanging up start pressing your buttons like a madman for <30-60 seconds ending with your home button (might take a while to get the timing right). Go into settings and disable pattern-lock.
-->try first 4 steps without the sim..
other than these saving ur data on devices internal memory will be difficult..factory reset phone or contact service centre(who will also probably factory reset ur phone)..well !! Best of Luck..:fingers-crossed:
If you created device specific password for your phone through "google 2-step verification", you have to enter that password instead of your actual google password...
just restart ur phone nd try ur pattern again.. thats it....

[Q] How to decrypt an encrypted phone and restore as is?

So, unfortunately I encrypted my phone. I didn't realize that you lose face unlock, pattern unlock and some other features.
I want those features back, but I don't want to lose any of my home screen setups, apps and app data. What is the right way to decrypt the phone and restore as-is. It's rooted, with CWM recovery and running stock 4.1.2.
Will Titanium Backup do the job and restore as-is after I decrypt my phone as decrypting it restores the entire phone back to default settings,
I want to make sure I get the widgets on homescreen features when 4.2 update hits, and I have a feeling they won't work with an encrypted phone.
Thanks for the help! =]
Yes, TB should work. Back up everything using TB, copy that to your PC, factory reset your device, copy the files back to your device and restore.

Alright cool, thanks! I noticed that I have to tap install for every app when I had done a restore for a friend. Is there any way around that? It's time consuming to have to press Install and Done for every app being restored.
You need to by the pro version for batch restore. Or buy another backup app like rom toolbox

decryption on android
You can decrypt on android without having to factory reset and losing data.
Follow the procedure below:
Go to settings menu >> select lockscreen >> select password >> type a six digit password containing atleast one number or as shown in encryption option >> now select security (it should be right below the lockscreen option) >> now select encrypt extsd or encrypt device (whatever you pressed while encrypting your device) >> deselect all the check boxes (not a single option to be ticked) >> press the continue button below >> press disable encryption >> you will be asked for password . Just enter the 6 digit password you recently set under the lockscreen option >> your device/extsd should get decrypted .
Works well for my galaxy tab 2 running jelly bean.
Pls report if it works or doesn't work.

It did not work as the encrytption option is greyed out and nothing pops up even if u click on it. I guess the only way is to take backup and then rest and then restore.
Works for me
Works for me (Android 4.2), I have the same key as lock and as encryption pw, so I am not sure which is which.
I have to enter the key after clicking decrypt and then click on decrypt again (to confirm the warning).
Device reboots and starts decryption process.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note. I just followed these steps and it worked for me. There is a crucial step. Selecting a password of more than 6 characters. First pass I tried a shorter password in the "lock screen" step mentioned above. However when I navigated to the Security page to choose Decrypt, that button remained greyed out. When I repeated the same steps with a longer password it was enabled.
Thanks for trying

Doesn't work on moto razr hd xt925 with stock android 4.1.2
The "Encrypt phone" option (under Security Settings), used to encrypt it in the first place, will be disabled no matter what I do from all you listed.
also make sure you have your battery at >80% and plugged in to a power source. on my galaxy S5 the option to decrypt was grayed out until my password was at least 6 letters and 1 number and my phone was plugged in and over 80%.
if you have met those requirements and still grayed out then not sure.

What I accidentally did was Encrypt my device thinking I was going to put a password on my phone so people couldn't get on my phone. Not wanting to have
to put the password in every time I looked for a way without resetting my phone. What you need to do is click on Device then to Lock screen. After an update the screen
password is now under that section and not Security. After clicking on Lock screen you can click on Screen Lock under Screen Security. There you can put in a different
password and then you can remove the password and now it wont be Encrypted.
One other things besides the password and such:
If you were forced to encrypt by connecting to you company email or something, make sure you disable it in device administrator (under the same security tab). If there is a device administrator enabled, it might be forcing encryption on (which will grey out or remove your decrypt option).
Of course disabling the device administrator for your company email or such will erase your emails on the phone but you can resync it once you install it again.
Just another thought since that was my case. I have to do that everytime samsung updates since it will only update when the device is decrypted.
Note 4 Edge
Thank You!!!
I was getting tired of the tedious password prompt to decrypt my phone everytime I needed to use it. This actually worked.

Anyone know if there is a way to disable the encryption on a Galaxy S5? It has the latest version (6.0.1). I was attempting to add my work email account to my phone and
while doing so it popped up on the screen requiring the phone to be encrypted. However, either I didn't enter the information correctly or something, since I wasn't able to

[Q] Forgot Pattern Lock

Hi there,
I owned a Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean 4.2.1 version, yakjuxw (Not rooted), GSM. I activated the Pattern Lock to prevent the kids at my relatives house messing my phone. Unfortunately, I forgot the pattern and the phone stays locked out. I have tried the pattern combinations for days but failed.
I have tried to key in my Gmail account username/password but since my phone is wifi/data switched off, I cant sign in. Moreover, I am not sure whether the USB Debugging is enabled.
I have tried some 'hole' methods recommended at some forums, but it didnt work on my phone.I hope to get access to my messages/images/some files and transfer them to my pc before reset the phone to factory setting. Please help! :-|

Call yourself from another phone and answer, after that your phone will probably get unlocked.
In ADB or some other way to access the file system in Recovery Mode
navigate to /data/system and
delete password.key and/or gesture.key
- reboot.
Password/Gesture Lock gone.
You can use AROMA File Manager in Recovery (would have to sideload it if you didn't pre-install it)
