What is Takju, what are the differences, and other related questions - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

As you might know, today Google started selling the GSM Galaxy Nexus unlocked in the USA straight through the Play store for $399.
At the same time, we noticed a new factory image, "takju", pop up on the images page: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#takju It's safe to assume that takju will be loaded on all Galaxy Nexi sold through the Play store.
The intention of this thread is to discuss about:
1) The differences between "yakju" and "takju", the most apparent one is that takju comes pre-loaded with GWallet
2) Whether Takju will be updated as frequently as yakju,
3) Whether Takju will run on all GSM Galaxy Nexus models, or just the ones sold through Google Play,
4) Whether Takju's Wallet app works outside the US too,
5) The radio that comes with takju, and
6) Whether Takju is as awesome as yakju

One question I have is about your #4, Do you have any reason to believe that it won't work outside of the US?

I'm more concerned about the radio version on the takju phones. Hopefully it will compatible with any GSM Nexus out there.

It is the same as yakju.
Yakju + Google Wallet = takju. Nothing more, nothing less.
Same AOSP support, direct from google updates, etc.

So far, no.

So its nothing more than an app added to the stock rom?

like adrynalyne said its the same a yakju except it has google wallet ... infact google themselves said just this
kernel and radio (and everything else) for yakju and takju are the same for build IMM76I the radio being XXLA2
no google wallet will not work outside of the usa yet ... it's hidden from the app drawer (in canada)

Thanks for all the clarifications, I don't see any reason for leaving this thread around anymore. But I will

I installed Takju on my nexus. At first it was weird and couldn't connect to my Rogers network. But then I figured out that I needed to select the network and all seemed to work fine. The battery does seem to drain a little faster on takju, it might just be me. I also can't see google wallet

Where Is the 4.0.3 Update in Canada

I just wondering where is the 4.0
.3 update for Canadians. Has Google suspended the update or when will we receive the update.

What about 4.0.2 in Canada
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
You should get 4.0.2 OTA
I'm on bell and I can confirm that there's no 4.02 ota yet.
i just received the 4.0.1 volume fix.
Tired of waiting, so flashed 4.0.2 manually.

Does this perhaps stem from the whole Yakju discussion and who (Samsung vs Google) is ultimately pushing the update to you?
Personally I purchased the Bell Nexus (GT-i9250M) for use on Rogers and I expect there to be some delay in the delivery of any of the OTAs due to the fact we have confirmation this particular model's OTA updates are provided via Samsung and not Google directly.
Thoughts? I too am eager for 4.0.3.

No, it does not. My friend on Yakju just got the volume fix update. The updates are rolled out in batches.
The only people with 4.0.3 OTA's are the Nexus S. It does not matter who updates your phone because everyone will get the updates anyways.. it also doesn't mean yakju devices get precedence as you can see my friend with a yakju just got his volume fix yesterday.
I don't think I have seen anyone get a 4.0.2 update since the initial wave even if they are on yakju. It appears that Google pulled the OTA update for some reason. It would be nice if they posted on their blog what is going on with the updates instead of staying silent.
On yakju build. Just got an update alert but after update the version is still 4.0.1. Is this the minor volume bug update?

I also got an update just this min and its stay on 4.0.1
What is the different now??

Is Google required to provide Jellybean to GN before GS3?

Is Google required to provide Jellybean to GN before GS3?
Since my GN is a VZW phone, I have a feeling that it will get Jellybean after the GS3 gets it.... or am I wrong?
Huh? why would Google be required to provide Jelly Bean? It's all open source.
New flagship device (Nexus tablet or Nexus 4) will get Jelly Bean first be cause it will be launched.
Galaxy Nexus (GSM: yakju/takju) will follow.
Nexus S (GSM) will follow.
VZW will need to wait for Verizon to approve of Google's update. I know I'm missing Sprint but you get the idea.
I am completely positive in telling you that the Galaxy Nexus will get Jellybean before the GSIII.

I don't believe it is required but the gnex will get it ages before the gs3 even dreams of having it because the gnex is an aosp device where as Samsung will take jelly bean and bloat it down with touchwiz and Samsung apps... then it goes to the carriers and they put their apps on and somewhere along the line it just might reach the gs3

I wouldn't bet on that. If we're talking about the GSIII in the USA I would agree with you but overseas or unlocked is a different story. I'm sure one of the overseas variants of the GSIII will see a Jelly Bean ota before we do (VZW/CDMA). We haven't even officially gotten 4.0.4 yet.
GNex will definitely get JB first. The G3 is running Touchwiz, so even when JellyBean is ready, Samsung will need to modify the IU. Regardless of the G3 being a "flagship device" Nexus devices will always get the updates first because they are pure Android.

"Required"? lol. Not sure what you mean by that. Google makes the OS. Who would be holding them accountable to be "required" to do something?
But you know that it will... I mean think about it. They make Jellybean for the new Nexus + old Nexus (that's us). Then they give it to Samsung (and others) who make it all skinned and stuff for their devices.
It necessarily gets JB first...

No, I was dead serious. First glimpse of ICS ever was on a Nexus S. As for why it took so long...because they probably wanted the GN to be released first.
Then they did their little peepee dance and canceled the 4.0.3 push shortly after it began for whatever reason.
The GNex and NS will both get Jellybean before the GS3 IMO.
Why would the carriers and/or Samsung upgrade the GS3 asap? What incentive do they have? They don't, so they won't.
Google isn't required to do anything but my bet us that gn gets jellybean much much sooner for the before mentioned reasons and judging by the past. If the hardware is capable it will get it. The nexus s got ics same day that the Verizon galaxy Nexus came out.

The CDMA (Verizon) Galaxy Nexus is not really an unlocked "Nexus" phone in the traditional Google definition (like the GSM pentaband version) in the sense that it is still "locked" to Verizon's will to get an update. Real Google phones get updates pushed directly from Google servers. Heck they can't even switch SIM cards or use other providers or use it abroad with international SIMs.

Does Google have to get Verizon's permission in order to push OTA update to CDMA Galaxy Nexus phones?

[Q] What model is this?

Hi, i am interested in purchasing a brand new gnex for roughly $330 CAD. While this is not the best price, I am willing to pay it just for the warrenty.
I want to purchase the unit from Mobilicity from Canada.
Does anyone know the particular model from Mobilicity? I know it is penta-band, so I am guessing the phone will be compatible with wind mobile, am i correct?
I am just curious if anyone purchased their unit from Mobilicity, and if you did, please tell me the specific model number? I am just curious because I might move to the state in a couple months, I am not sure if I should just buy VZW gnex or simply purchase it in canada.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance
EDIT: From what I've collected so far, all models being sold in Canada are maguro, but is it takju ot yakju? If it is yakju, does it mean i will never get google wallet no matter what I do in the future? (say, flash a factory image from google directly on US carrier)
