Try going outdoors when its sunny or bright. Cover the ambient light sensor with you thumb, for example and you'll see its enabled by default.

If rotation lock is on from the notification panel, it will not allow smart rotation to be checked (it disables it).

great app but you have to set more options for the screen . It would be nice to set the screen brightness at 5% 40% 70% 100% depending on the outside light conditions just like auto brightness...it would help save battery. Srry for my bad english..i hope you understand what i mean

I really like the idea of this app but on my i9100 the auto brightness does not seem to work! It would be great if it would be dark lying down and then change to auto when I pick it up so if I'm in a dark room it will stay dark but it will change from dark to bright in a light room. The manual brightness setting works well though so I'm excited to see it improve on future updates! Good work on this app!

Yea i know that app but i want it to completely turned off. i mean like when i start my phone without going to the app again and again. Because when i turn on that app and reboot again it comes back.
You need root, xposed installer and gravity box
Go to display in gravity box, you should see button backlight at the bottom

If you're willing to switch ROM's, you can also flash Paranoidandroid 4.3, works like a charm.
PA let's you decide when to turn the lights off or to keep the lights off permanently.

Unfortunately there are soms bugs:
- screenshots are blurred
- previews (of cached apps) are also blurred
- HDMI is not working
These are all the bugs I've experienced and don't bother me at all: I use this ROM as a daily driver and I'm quite happy with it.

I want that when I get a notification on my Xperia S flash the notification led and the illumination bar at the same time. Can I do this somehow or with an app?
At the same time, it can be quite tricky, as each notification can blink at different speeds.
However, you can use Gravity Box feature to make it blink. You can enable it at Display Tweaks, and tick Button Backlight notifications
