Hello,
I wanted to buy the archos g9 80 16gb but there are same bad reviews on youtube pointing out that the screen has a blur in the upper left corner when you press it.
So should I buy it or do you have any alternatives for € 200 - 300 ?
anyone?
Has anyone the archos 80 g9 ?
Are you happy with it?
What are the down sides?

Yea , any one ? I Second that question.
Well, my 80 G9 250gb arrived today. I didn't know the thing only had 512mb of RAM, that sucks, my Acer A100 has 1gb. As far as the screen blur, I haven't noticed it because the 2 bright green stuck pixels draw my eyes inexorably to them, especially the one in the middle of the black toolbar on the bottom. Sending it back to NewEgg, hope to get one that works. The only other LCD device I have ever had with a stuck pixel was a Droid X I returned 2 days after I got it. Otherwise, I like it, but I do kinda fear trying to run ICS and widgets on that paltry amount of RAM.
I've had my archos 80 G9 Turbo 16GB for about 2 months. overall I'm happy with it.
Cons:
I have had the screen issue. I had archos RMA it twice for that, and the latest one still has it. (my suggestion would be get one that doesn't have it too bad, or go for the 250 GB) In general I don't notice it except for when I'm changing how I'm holding the tablet, which at that point in time it doesn't matter.
The 512 Meg ram kinda sucks. It drags down the multitasking ability of it a little. (although I haven't had any problems running widgets) You mostly need to keep an eye out for apps that like to run in the background for no reason like all of the games by Glu.
Freezes/Random Reboots, I have had it freeze and randomly reboot quite often. usually about once a day.
Volume button placement is odd. I often accidentally change the volume when I'm holding it landscape.
You'll notice the game market is slightly limited for it because of the OMAP processor. Most games cater to Tegra. however since I've had it I've noticed it's gotten better.
Camera feels like it's on an odd spot. kinda hard to hold without covering it. (Thank god for the kickstand)
Pros:
When it's working it does everything you need, and does it quite well.
The screen is quite bright. I usually leave it at the lowest light level and don't have any issues.
8 inch is a wonderful size. I feel like 10 inch is too big and clunky, and 7 inch feels too small.
Kick stand is handy.
Speaker is quite loud. I often listen to podcasts while doing other things and have no problem hearing them.
i have had my 80g9 turbo for a month today and can say it is a good tablet.
as sed above it does have the screen issue but i 2 only notice it when changing position.
ive never had it freeze on me but the browser does occasionally close itself if i multitask too much.
Ditto with what everybody else said, but I would like to add a few pro/con's.
Pro:
I've got to repeat how great the 8" size is. It's perfect. If the frame was a little better...
I really like having the 2 USB ports. Both act as OTG (hosts). The front needs a $5 adapter, but works well. My only complaint is that the back one may require a dongle because of low clearance.
It also supports the wiimote program for games. My HTC Flyer (soon to be seen on e-bay) & Galaxy S do not.
The Archos remote program (for media) is limited, but really nice if you have an android phone.
Video decoding is better than Tegra 2. It actually played a BluRay rip (poorly).
Cons:
It seems like the USB device detection is intermittent. Sometime it will detect devices (including my external HDD), sometimes it requires multiple connections.
Viewing angles are not great.
Mine was bad out of the (open) box. Had to RMA it. Hoping the new one is better.
Usages Notes:
The main use I found for the back USB is to power some laptop USB powered speakers I picked up. In combination with the remote program, it makes a nice little portable sound system. The other "killer" app is Mame4Droid with a wiimote. I'm hoping ShadowGun will run on it.

Well Shadow gun works , try with the Tegra version and Chainfire 3D .
Mine has also the screen shadow problem when i press it . I have the 8 G9 250 GB version . My main concern is the poor battery life in comparison to an .. Ipad which my wife has always on , the screen its not that bad for the price .
The space for media is guite enormous but the 1.5 gb of internal memory for apps seems to fill quite fast with Tegra games , but its enough for most users i guess.
Super good for media playing , Hdmi out , full usb X 2 , connection to not only wii controller but also ... Usb Xbox 360 controller , Usb pc controller , mouse , keyboard , usb sticks , usb network to cable converter ,usb fan , usb light , usb hub , the list goes on and on ..
Lastly the 8' is quite perfect dimensions and i hope the Ics 4 solves at least the battery problem . Until then i ll wait
I agree with most pros & cons above although I have yet to take full advantage of everything
I have a 80G9 16GB turbo with OMAP4460, 1.5GHz, 512MB RAM (*was not advertised to be in that configuration) only had this for about 2 weeks, also have 80G9 8Gb classic with 4420
-no screen issue
-almost no flash issues
-good live streaming
-good Netflix
-most of the time very fast
-overall size & screen aspect ratio is also perfect for me (little smaller frame/border would be better) I have spent time on a 7 and 10 inch tablet
-loving Perfect Keyboard and getting used to benefits of Opera Browser, using Avast Mobile Security
-because of size, typing with split keyboard in landscape with thumbs is better than any other experience (full size, or laptop included)
would I buy one? No, I bought two (family member has the classic)
----------------------------
-charging time, procedure & dedicated usb cable/ charger are questionable
-freezes or reboots once in a while for no known reason or when I rush to go back or forward
-sometimes issues with keystroke delay & cursor placement
-battery life is ok, but would want more if remote productivity was a priority
-build quality is acceptable for price but inset screen creates a ledge for dust, some of the edges around perimeter could be smoother

By "back USB" do you mean the "3G stick" socket? I tried plugging a few USB devices into it, but nothing registered, and Archos' literature does not claim it should (just "USB slave: Mobile Transfer Protocol (MTP)" from the website tech specs?).
Would be nice to use that full-size connetor, altho my BT keyboard paired up fairly easily, and works nicely.

I use mine as a host all the time. I literally leave my 64GB USB drive plugged in all the time. I have a case on my G9 101, so the 3G port is covered and I don't have to worry about losing the USB drive anywhere. I have a bunch of movies and television shows on the USB drive that I watch. The only time it ever comes out of the tablet is when I need to put other media on it.

Say what? I simply cannot parse "clock menu popular" - typos? missing words? There is a Settings menu item for the 3G stick, but nothing I did on that seemed to matter, although I did not try too much, or with many devices.
Thanks anyway, but with that issue, only 512MB RAM (Staples online ad Sunday stating 1GB got my hopes up that this was an upgraded model, but they have since corrected it), and not getting the MTP app to work on my main Linux PC, I gave up on it, and took it back for a refund tonight. Besides, it was just a bit too big to handle/carry easily like my Dell Streak 5 and defunct Archos 5. And I guess I am stuck on pre-Honeycomb versions of Android - that HC GUI is just too weird...
On the plus side, that bright, clear, just-big-enough 8-inch 1024x768 4:3 screen sure is nice for viewing web pages and epub magazines like Linux Journal.
YMMV,

Does anyone know of a foldable/rollable USB keyboard (presumably silicone) that would have USB 2.0 and work with Hash's 3.0 kernel/OTG?
I like this for the price, but am a noob

If that works I want one. I can't type on the kindle touch screen for anything.

Roll-up keyboard working fine here through powered USB hub. Just as accurate as can be expected with these crappy things, but it works like it should.
Edit: Thanks for mentioning this otherwise I would've completely forgotten I had one. Awesome.
Edit: To further clarify, if it matters my USB hub is a multi-TT hub, which was difficult to find since most manufacturers don't even advertise the feature. I needed one for MIDI latency reasons. If I remember correctly it has something to do with 2.0 devices on the hub receiving sufficient power and not getting dropped to 1.1?

I'm gonna go ahead and say yes, simply because it's a full-size keyboard. It does take more effort than a standard keyboard to register presses being as flimsy as it is, but when my PC was still up and running I started to get used to it being my only full keyboard (I'm typing this from my laptop) and I got pretty quick with it. Trouble here is, aftering getting my Fire I'm pretty damn fast on an Android keyboard so my judgment is possibly skewed. I say go for it. It's really the only portable option aside from those little Bluetooth keyboards, if anyone even has those working yet. I also got my powered USB hub to register my flash drive so that's promising.
How exactly does a usb keyboard work with the KF?
Powered USB hub, all the way.

I couldn't get enough power straight through my adapter or cable, so I used a powered USB hub. I rebooted the Fire, then the thing just worked. I'm really excited. I just hope the port provides enough power on its own for one of those tiny Bluetooth dongles. If not, I'm fairly certain there was a discussion thread here about trying to ramp up the voltages so hopefully they'll figure that out and integrate it into future releases. I really would like to be completely untethered.
I got a wireless foldable silicone keyboard which is water resistant. It comes in 5 colors. Black (which you posted), white, blue, green and pink.
You can get one at Silicone Keyboards

I agree. This 30 pin connector, proprietary charging, no HDMI, coupled with no JB 4.2 so no miracast, this is one disconnected, connected, wired and shackled but supposedly mobile device.
I've only had it for three weeks and I miss a more connected, but liberated device.
It's frustrating cause this could be soooooo good.

my playbook, and my note 2 use 2 amp chargers. I just lucked or on the 30 pin connector because I had a mini usb to 30 pin connector for my tab 2 7.0, and an extra cable.
The tf300 was a dream to type on with the dock, but honestly, my note 10.1 kicks the crap out of it. The oem cover works great, with the exception of a lot of e's that come out 3.

I had no idea that this was happening.
It would be awesome if Samsung could come up with a transformer-esque type of keyboard/cover, or even a touch-cover like the Surface.
It makes the idea of a "Note netbook/laptop" a good one, but with two separated accessories i.e. stand + bluetooth keyboard, that idea is gone.
Shame :/
The tablet must be a tablet, not a computer if you want a computer buy it separately. A tablet is made for commands through touchscreen, if you want to have a tablet with dock keyboard buy a tablet-pc ( i own one..)

Eh? I can find the Samsung connector (which is actually a standard called "PDMI") just about anywhere (at least in the States), I've got more charger options now than i had with my Moto Xoom, especially if you buy one of these. HDMI and AllShare Cast work on my device, too.
I've used 4.2 and we're not really missing much useful save the multi-user feature.
I have 4 BT Keyboards, including one with a built-in stick mouse and a cover that folks to make a stand; the combo (which is light enough I carry it around in a case with my Note) gives me everything I could get with the KB dock except maybe charging and it's apparently more portable as well.

This. I've been able to travel with only my tablet (on certain business trips even) and have most of what i'd needed to do be accessible that way.
I went to verizon yesterday & saw a Samsung branded Keyboard dock for the Tab10.1. I tried it with the display model Tab 2 10.1 & it fit. I thought that the Tab 210.1 & the Note 10.1 were the same size. I was gutted to find it was not. It works if you pull out the plastic guide/holder, but then it is kind of flimsy in there. Bummer.
Wasnt there a rumor somewhere that one of Samsungs next tablets was going to be transformer-esque? I could have sworn I read something a few months ago about it.

Well, with the GNote 10.1 LTE coming to VZ soon, I'd expect they'd be getting accessories there, too (and likely to be hugely overpriced), so I'd come back again a little while after the GNote's available in VZ stores.

That sounds sort of narrow-minded in my opinion. Why can't a tablet be both or why can't a computer be a tablet? For an artist like me, I would love the opportunity if tablets got powerful enough to rival their notebook counterparts and offered a desktop view as well as for easy access with a keyboard and trackpad.
With the move of ultrabooks , especially the Surface Pro, converging into tablet territory with full features, one must consider that to be a blessing than a curse. Think about it in this way: Would you carry a radio, cd player , portable DVD player with TV, game system and an ereader just to be able to use them, or would you opt for the simpler solution of an all in one deal? That is the number one reason why the iPod took off: portability. Not only can you get a radio, but a music player and now video, games and reading.
It gets roughly cumbersome to carry every single CD, DVD ,game cart/disc in addition to the hardware , let alone the books for brief reading in commutes in comparison to an all out deal.
For the average consumer and artist, such things are so hard to get that it is pushed towards the rich ,but now similar tech now exists that has the potential to allow for maximal power and capability and the ability to change form factors on the fly. Why should people have to be inconvenienced to buying several different products that can be brought under one device when it can be deducted into one singular product that is amazing and does it all , broadly speaking?
If we went by this flawed logic an mp3 player must play music only, but no radio , thus how would iPods and whatnot be popular if they didn't serve multiple functions simply?

Thanks.....I think. Glad to hear about the PDMI. Just have to figure out how to use it.
What I was trying too say is everything is an add on so my kit ends up being as bulky as my ultrabook and far more prone to losing some piece that makes the whole thing work. my last tablet logged about 100k+/- frequent flyer miles. Using one power brick with one power end, one multi headed usb, one multi headed hdmi, one universal battery charger brick fit neatly in an airplane amenity bag, and served two cameras, one phone and a tablet. Needed no OTG cable to get the CF card reader seen by the tablet. Because I have a GNex, I already have a data/sync switch on my usb cable.
The cameras are the hardest and heaviest to carry.
So far, I've had to add another amenity kit to add the adapters for the Note. And I still don't have a way of using it to run a projector or tv. My phone ends up doing that.

Hi,
so soon my nexus will be here and after over 6 years with iPhone I'm moving to try android.
one think i always loved about my iphone is the docking station, makes life better and easier.
now with the iphone its very easy to find docking station that fit 100% right, and then i dont have to worry about damage to the charging port, the phone is held up very tight and i never had any problem.
on the android camp its harder to find phone specific accessories so heres what i manage to find:
im looking for a cheap solution but can pay a little more if its really worth it
cheap:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-D...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item2ecab22c6d
expensive:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-M...Phone_PDA_Cables_Adapters&hash=item43c158ab0c
the expensive one at least comes with a cable, and heres a video i found that shows that this product might be a better choice:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTyGmNTh6iA
i just dont want the device to wobble freely hanging only by the usb connector.
i also hear that micro usb is much weaker then apple connectors so im a bit worried.
any1 have any experince with such products? what do u think? am i risking damage to my usb port? thanks.

IMHO ... yes, you are risking damaging the port. I personally wouldn't even consider using one as I've gone through a bunch of phones that the Micro-USB eventually stopped working properly. The Nexus one was notorious for that problem as have been quite a few other devices. Micro-USB just doesn't hold up over time.
Now, back to your problem. One thing the Nexus 5 has over the iPhone is Qi Wireless charging. So, might I suggest stop thinking in terms of how you would plugin in your iPhone to charge it, and to sync it with iTunes. All of this can be done using apps that sync wirelessly (iSyncr etc) and a good Qi charger.
Here's a good starting point for a "dock" like standing position while your N5 charges:
http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-DT910-Wireless-Charging-Stand/dp/B00A3NCC8M
It's important for you to note the orientation of the Micro USB port on the phone. On nexus devices reversed compared to the samsung phones those docks are for. I own the dock on the first link. It will not work with the Nexus.
You need one that's pin-side facing you. Unless you want the phone facing away from you
It's an annoying aspect of the Micro USB standard -- when it comes to direction, there is no standard.
DIY: Not ideal because it doesn't LOOK great but does WORK great. I bought the dock from that first link for my S3 and because of its 'universal'ness it was extremely wobbly, putting much undue strain on the port. I stuck a couple wads of Sugru down on the dock and behind the connector (where the phones back would rest) and stuck my phone in. When it dried after 30 minutes I had a perfect custom fit. Looked like **** though. Function over form in this case.

this...
but this is also a relatively new thing as the Nexus 4 was the "standard" way that everyone is used to (small side up where the Nexus 5 flipped it to small side down)
For charging, I would recomend the Google's wireless charger: https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_Wireless_Charger?id=nexus_wireless_charger. As for syncing, what kind of things are you going to sync from your computer to your phone? On the android side the majority of things can/are synced over wifi or cloud services.

Thanks for all the answers...
I didn't think about orientation lol, i forgot about this issue.. so docking stations seems meh ATM
about wireless chargers... quite expensive IMO and i always fear that since the phone is not being held tightly it might fall and break.
i put my phone on a nightstand near my bed so accidents in the dark could happen, and i also like it when the phone is standing so i can see the screen without picking it up.
so that limits the range of wireless chargers i can use.
syncing is not a problem btw.
good thing i asked here.. i almost bought one of those. i guess ill try to find wireless one that suites me.
thanks again!

Google is your friend as usual, Kidigi are about to launch a Nexus 5 specific dock which is more substantial than the one you were looking at.
The upcoming Tab S3 is the first tablet that I've seen that seems like it would be a good replacement / upgrade for the Note 10.1 2014.
Here are some PROs and CONs as I see it:
PRO:
- battery life
- processor
- "HDR"
- USB-C
- Fingerprint Sensor
- Low weight
- look / feel
- magnetic keyboard option
- 4096 levels pressure sensitivity
- larger rubberized s-pen
CON:
- portrait button orientation
- price
- pen does not fit inside tablet
- pen doesn't have eraser (not important for most, but leaves me using old pens that don't take advantage of the heightened pressure sensitivity)
- Big one: early reviews suggest s-pen input lag
The main con for me is really that custom ROMs have made my Note snappy enough that I don't feel like I really need to upgrade (aside from my aging battery life). With 7.1.1 ROMS (currently on LiquidDeath, but Lineage is great, too) I finally don't get s-pen lag when drawing or writing and would be frustrated to have to deal with that again.
I don't think I can justify the expense right now, but if I had the cash this would seem like a solid choice. Opinions?
I agree with everything you've listed.
I was a bit worried about losing screen size so I calculated some stuff.
Note: 8.6 x 5.4in - 46.44 sq in
Tab: 7.8 x 5.8in - 45.24 sq in
The tab loses a bit of length but gains it back in width. Not going to be as big for widescreen movies and such but hopefully not too bad.
I'm also not a fan of the reduced PPI but I'm going to Best Buy sometime to compare.
The pen not fitting inside is a big issue since it's easy for me to lose them (and the replacement is $60). I would probably put something on its belt clip to keep it attached to me.
However, the pen's gained size may feel nicer in the hand and make it more difficult to lose.
We'll get ROMs eventually. Except if the bootloader is tied down like on the S7 (is it?)
IMO it has 3 big cons not listed here.
Aspect ratio. It's bad for for android. Most iOS apps are optimized for 4:3, so it's a good fit for iPad. Most android apps actually look bad on 4:3 (used Mi tab, apps didn't look good). 4:3 is bad for media consumption. Websites are optimized for widescreen.
Lack of MHL is a big con for me too. I frequently use my tablet as my portable computer (booting linux) or portable media center. I don't find wireless a good alternative (things like chromecast), too much input lag and requires live Internet connection most of the times.
The smaller battery. Sure Note 10.1 has a more power hungry screen and SoC but the difference in battery capacity is so great that with a power efficient rom you always get better autonomy with Note 10.1

Does it not support DisplayPort over USB-C? If not, on Reddit there is a guy with a solution that works for the pixel, which also doesn't support DP over USB-C and that may work. Can't post the link since I'm still new but you can google "google pixel is wired output possible" to find the post.
Went to Best Buy recently and tried it. Couldn't do much since it was locked in demo mode (so I couldn't see how badly apps handle the 4:3 screen) but it seemed like a nice device.
Have you guys seen the Chromebook Plus/Pro? It's a Samsung Chromebook with an Spen, Android app support, and it folds into a tablet. It supports DP over USB-C. Downside is no button on pen. Might be a better fit if you are using the tablet as a portable computer and it will run Linux even better than the tab.

I think only S8 supports video output over usb C at this point. Display output over usb 3 (as per the reddit page) is buggy at best. Tried it to one of my laptops, it's good for quick work, I wouldn't trust it for real work.
Chrome book plus is better for work. But an ultrabook is even better.
It's very bad as a tablet though. I've found out that the further away we are from 500 grams / 1 lbr mark the less people use the said device as a tablet. There is a reason , most books do not weigh more than 1lbr for easier reading. A tablet plays a similar role, the heavier it is the more unusable. Note 10.1 2014 is on the heavy side (would prefer if it had 100 less grams) but still very usable. 1KG tablet/laptops are not though. You may make the occasional tablet use, but no way you get it in the couch for media viewing or reading, or on a trip as a handheld, pretty much why the 2in1 idea never flew (people find that they don't use them as tablets so prefer to go the ultrabook route all the way).
