I upgraded to 2.2 OTA yesterday. Everything has worked great except that out of all issues, the notification sound for my text message became a very low key pop sound. I attempted to change it various times and tried resetting my phone a couple of times to see if that changed anything and nothing.
The funny part is I can still change the sound notifications for my twitter, so it is specifically the text messaging that is causing a problem. I have never rooted and didn't flash that early froyo, just the legit one yesterday.
Can anyone help me?
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Have you tried a reboot?

By rebooting you mean turning off and turning on? If yes I have many times and tried taking out the battery too.

Im rooted using fresh right now it is built on the latest OTA and I'm trying to replicate your problem. What happens when you attempt to change the sound also where are you changing the sound at in messaging settings or the default in sounds?

When I go to settings/sound/notification sound I click any of the sounds and click ok. (As I highlight any of them it plays the preview sound).
Then I exit and have multiple people text me and it plays a little tiny sounding popping sound instead of whatever sound I picked.
Now I am on launcher pro and attempted changing on regular sense and nothing happened. I'm also using chompsms. (maybe uninstall chompsms?)
I don't know what to do . I turned off the phone several times and also took out the battery. Twitter notifications work fine, so its directly related to texting
go into your messages home screen press menu, press settings, scroll to received messages heading, make sure play notification sound is checked and than select a notification sound from the next option below and select ok

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG THANK YOU !!!!!!!! You have no idea how frustrated I was with this !
I really appreciate it man.
Just posting this to see if anyone else has experienced the same problem (and hopefully was able to fix it).
I flashed BeastMOD II v4.0 last night (which I LOOVE because of the speed, smoothness, overall feel etc.) BUT, BLN will ONLY work with e-mails and not text messages. I've tried all kinds of different display and notification settings but for the life of me cannot get it to work with texts.
I even restored my phone to the rom I had prior (Juggs v3.7, which BLN worked perfectly for), then re-flashed BeastMOD whilst whiping everything twice just to be sure. Still the same exact result.
If anyone has ever experienced this before and knows why or how to fix it please post!
Thanks
EDIT: Tried flashing Bullet v2.9b and got the exact same results, so I'm thinking it might be an issue with the ROM.
I have used BLN on synergy for cm7 and stock, and with bullet. It works for everything but tstkmg for me but I use chompsms and it have its own screen wake quick reply option that I use.

At least i'm not the only one lol. I actually restored an older backup (Juggs v 3.69) and got everything working perfectly...reflashed BeastMOD and same thing, works for emails only. Sucks.
But overall, this ROM so outperformes all others I'm actually willing to go without the BLN working correctly....but am seriously WAITING FORTHE FIX ;-)

I third your results. BLN had issues for me too with Beastmod. Plus I had Gmail push issues which were later answered after going back to Juggernaut 3.7 which is flawless, but a bit laggy at times for me. It could be just suffering the usual symptoms of any Operating System we have all seen with Windows OS variants on PC's....just getting a bit slower and flakey with time. NOT here to bash any ROM. Overall, it's been the most stable of all ROMs I have used as well as the most satisfying from the get go with installing.
Bln has to do with the kernel not the Rom and most kernels have posted that it doesn't work with stock sms I've been using go sms pro with jugs 3.7 along with bullet 2.9 and haven't had any issues also remember that on most apps you have to activate Bln in settings
Edit: Remember you also have to have Bln control installed from the market

Hm that was the interesting thing - I knew it was kernel related. However people in the thread said that BLN use to work for them on a different rom.. I will try gosms when I get home, but BLN did use to work for me before.
I'll post this here just incase any of you miss the post:

Tried it, still failed.
I'm telling you, I have gotten BLN to work flawlessly with several other ROM's/Kernels, but NOTHING, no Kernel or settings will allow BLN to work correctly with text messages with this ROM. There's something in the coding that's preventing it.
I noticed that no matter what my settings are, whenever I receive a text message (if notifications are set to allow screen on) the screen always turns on for exactly 6 seconds, then turns off and nothing else happens no matter what the settings are. So something in the ROM is dictating the screen on time for SMS, and is overriding anything what ANY Kernel says, and is probably also overriding something that needs to be changed for BLN to work correctly.
And if I install a 3rd party SMS app that prevents the screen from turning on (or change the settings with the stock SMS app), the screen will stay off when I receive a SMS message, and the back light buttons will never turn on, so that's even worse lol.
Just my guess.
I'm still using beast mod 3.6, but it works very well with 3rd party apps such as go sms. It activates the capacitive buttons on all texts. It also will allow popup and screen on from the settings, i just don't like this as it can hurt my battery life with the screen on. I'd rather it just give me a notification tone and light up the capacitive buttons.

Yeah, I'm sure it works on BeastMOD v3.6 (just like how it works on all other ROMs and Kernels that supposedly support BLN), but the fact that it doesn't on v4.0 sucks. It's definitely a ROM issue. I just hope the developer addresses it with the next release since I really like the speed and feel of the ROM overall.

Yup, when I turn the stock one off the screen never lights when I receive a text. Then if I install a 3rd party app the screen may or may not turn on (whatever setting I choose) but BLN will never work regardless of what setting I choose.
There's something in the ROM that's f'ing with BLN with my phone. I wish I knew what it was. All other ROM's/Kernels are fine, just this one has issues.
this may be a long shot, but did u disable the setting to force all notifications through the 3rd party SMS app?? try go SMS again, but go into settings-recieve settings- make sure "disable other message notification" is unchecked.

Weird, I haven't tried Go SMS because I like the stock messaging app. Exactly what I did (Following the person's post) was:
1. Go into stock messaging app settings -> Uncheck notifications.
2. Download SMS Popup from the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=net.everythingandroid.smspopup&hl=en
3. In SMS Popup Settings -> Enable SMS Popup.
In their Additional settings: Turned quick reply off.
In their Notification settings: Check Enable Notifications, and Check blink LED.
4. Went into BLN Control and made sure BLN was enabled.
Voila it worked for me. Hope it helps. I understand your fustration .

We were talking about BeastMod which uses Synergy Kernel as stock. Correct me if I'm wrong but Bullet Kernel HAS Bln support while Synergy does NOT, hence the reason we were stating it's a ROM issue. I installed bullet kernel on Beastmod. Bln did not function. I have the market app Pro version of BLN. Yes, it works with Juggernaut. And yes, I also ONLY use GoSms Pro. So, it is a ROM issue I believe wrt Bln not working. But the Beastmod Co-OP told me on their thread they only recommend using Synergy with Beastmod and not Bullet. So this issue is moot I would assume.
EDIT: I have not specifically tried those extra settings mentioned. So I will have to try a fresh install with those specific settings mentioned. But are you guys that state Beastmod 4.0 works with Bln and Go SMS Pro...using Bullet kernel instead of Synergy? At least I hope that's the case.
Edit: MY BAD>>>>>>>>Synergy does have BLN support. I will go sit in my corner so please don't holler back I can't read Back to reinstalling BeastMod 4 and using settings with GoSMS and turning off stated settings etc in stock message app.

I think the whole issue with bln is that both the stock messaging app, and gosms stock settings both force sms notifications to go through those programs. bln has to be able to read the notifications. enable other programs to have access to the notifications, and you'll be good.

Getting that annoying silent notification bug? Restart your phone everyday... it won't stop it but it will decrease the number of dropped notifications. Don't believe me... well try it yourself. Text yourself from someone else's phone when you are getting the silent notification bug. Then restart you phone and see if it fixes the bug. It works for me. Tell me if if works for you. If it works for everyone, I may write a script to restart the appropriate services after use which may fix the problem all together.
Well that is all for today. I hope this helps.

I thought the notification bug was based off of hitting home or back after a phone call before the phone app quits itself, and not a random occurrence?

Although there is a relationship between the dialer and notifications stopping it does also occur randomly.
Notification Bug
The notification bug in my experience is triggered by hitting the back button before a call has fully ended, silencing an incoming call, silencing any notification, or exiting the SMS messenger by using the taskmon.
Restarting the phone is one way of fixing the problem. There are a group of services that you can restart, but it is easier to restart the phone. I am working on a script to restart the services after use, but I am running into another bug. When I have the script running the notifications enter an infinite. The only way I have been able to stop it is to remove the battery and uninstall. I am still working on it, but obviously not ready for prime-time.
Unfortunately, samsung may have beat me to the punch. I have a source that tells me that FD10 no longer has the bug. Hopefully it will leak... I mean be released officially soon.
Notification Bug
Recently my wife's E4GT has been getting the notification bug... it even goes one step further and affects the alarm clock. Her phone is stock el29, never been rooted. Weird.
I just do the following. Make a phone call, hang up RIGHT AWAY (1 second after calling), wait for the screen to go away (the screen that says "message" and "call" at the bottom). Once that screen goes away, the notification bug is gone and you can press whetever keys you like.

Is your wife using a task killer?
Hello all, I recently purchased this phone for T-Mobile USA. Pretty happy so far but one item is extremely irritating.
When texting (via stock messaging or hello sms) or writing an email via the Gmail app, any word that is underlined as a spelling mistake results in a pop up box for correction, when I select the correct word it will crash the app and show the message "Unfortunately, ____ has stopped." And it will close the app and not even save it as a draft. Lost some emails and many text messages to this. Simple example, "You're stupdi..." Stupdi will be underlined in red, as I select the word the popup dialog box gives suggestions, when I select stupid it will crash the app. I'm not referring to the hovering words but the actual pop-up dialog box.
Is this a known bug? Any suggestions on how to fix it?
I've never seen this on the z1c before, however I experienced something similar on an older htc phone. A factory reset got rid of the issue for me.

Have factory reset the phone 3 times and cleared the cache each time before and after. Can still reproduce the problem without fail. Annoying as hell.
Not sure what to do.

Yep I have exactly the same problem...
+1 as well. VERY VERY VERY annoying.
Yes, I suffer this as well. Anyone made a bug report with Sony referencing to this thread?
Nope...I wouldn't know where to start but I'll happily back you up!!
For that matter, does anyone else have problems with the proximity detection playing up when you are on a call so that sometimes you press buttons with your face? Or do I just have a really fat face?

Glad I'm not the only one. Drove me crazy/
Temporarily solved the spelling issue by just turning it off and installing Swiftkey. Eh..guess I should be thankful for 3rd party apps.
Also realized the native text messaging app doesn't do group messaging. Sigh.
Nah, you don't have a fat face - I have the exact same issue also. Have to press the Home key to exit the dialer during calls or it keeps registering key presses. Doesn't matter if I smash the phone into ear/cheek.
Also random, when trying to us the camera, it will start but not show anything.
Some stupid bugs..hopefully in the new fix.
What ROM are you guyed using having this problem? As it's now occurring on a 4.4.3 kit kat PAC rom.

Having same problem in AOSB 1.3.3/KitKat 4.4.2 and AOSB 1.3.2/KitKat 4.4.2
Does not occur on Cyanogen 11-20140218-Nightly-mb886.
and there is a particular peculiarity to this (other than the absolute frustration of loosing a well composed email). As as I was about to post in the AOSB thread:
FCs in any app where word replace is used - but does not occur on the the first word that awaits correction.
For instance in new Gmail message type
mappp
mappp
Tap the first word, select from a list of possible corrections (map) and the word is properly replaced then, on the second instance, whether or you corrected the first one of left it alone, when you select from the list of available corrections (map) the app crashes. The same pattern is in evidence when the words the same (as shown here) or different.
100% recreate-able

At first I thought I was the only one suffering from this annoyance, but then I saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgvTFu6UKJI
See, the problem is that whenever I send or receive a message, this icon pops up. At first I thought I was delusional, but then it repeatedly became clear that this was truly a bug. I managed to get a screenshot of it (which was really difficult considering that it only pops up for about half a second). I want to know if I anyone else has had this issue, and whether or not someone found a workaround from it popping up. Anyone at all?

This bothered me as well, but I have since gotten rid of it. Granted that you're rooted, you can download an Xposed module called NotifyClean. It listens for "notifications" in the status bar, and you have the option to disable them. Download/install/activate the module, turn on the listening feature, and send a message. When you go back into NotifyClean, you'll see "Data Usage". Select that, then select "Data usage is running". It should highlight the selection in red, and ultimately get rid of the little annoying icon that shows up for a split second.
It seems that I'm not the only one having an issue. Well hopefully there's a better work around for this because I don't plan rooting my phone for a long time! Flashing roms and tweaks could be addicting haha! Hopefully someone finds a better fix to hide this annoying notification!

Unfortunately, I can't think of anything to help with your issue that doesn't involve root. If you know what is causing the notification then you may be able to go into settings>apps>all and disable the offender?

I managed to get a screenshot, and I checked what app was causing it but it was a system app called "Data Usage". Anyone know how to turn off data usage notifications? Turning off data usage alert doesn't help
This is normal behavior. While it shouldn't be popping up, its normal as in that it is what is done when a SMS/MMS is sent while on WiFi.
You can locate the app through Application Manager and tap it to Disable Notifications. This doesnt require root or anything.
Taking shots in the dark here, but there is a data usage section under wireless & networks in settings. In that menu there is a toggle for 'alert me about data usage'. You can then drag a slider up and down to set the cap for when your phone warns you about data usage. Maybe yours is dragged to the very bottom so it alerts you about any data usage?
Unlikely because it would show up during everything, but worth asking. Maybe just disabling the notification toggle would work. Also, does your carrier ship with specific software to monitor data usage? If so then check all of those apps settings to see if anything has any effect.
It doesn't matter whether or not the wifi is on, it still annoyingly pops up. I meant that you really can't disable notifications as it is a system app

I've tried that too! It still pops up, and it annoys me. Thanks for the effort though!
No, I don't think so. My S3 never did this. My phone is unlocked from HK

Probably Carrier IQ for some reason tracking your location. My LG G2 does the same thing.

I read its some type of traffic usage. Someone here posted a picture of it here. Also I have an option on the ROM I'm running to hide that notification. O don't think its carrier IQ but then again.
