What emulators are you using? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The first emulators I've tried were of the "oid" variety. Work fine, except the game boy advance needs work. They were free, so I'm not complaining. I also like fpse for PlayStation, although without touchpad support, it is a little lacking. I think I might start trying the psxperia method later on.
For neogeo, I was trying neodroid out, but it is a little too choppy for my tastes, and a little finicky too. Then I tried the neo.emu emulator. And boy, am I impressed with it! It was based on the same source as neodroid, but the scaling and framerate are superb in comparison. It was a bit of a pain to get it set up as you have to have perfect parent copies of all roms (bios included), and I didn't have that at first. But the developers website had the information I needed to get started, and it is some nearly perfect emulation.
I haven't tried emulating cps2 yet, but I'd like to start. I heard the developer of neodroid has created cpsemu, and that might do the trick, but after comparing his neogeo emulator to the neo.emu one I dunno if I can be satisfied if it is a similar experience for his cps2 jaunt. I heard a website gave cps2hd a good review but haven't heard from any users on here.
What are you guys using, have you tried them all? What do you think is the best? I think I might go try out the .emu guys other emulaters, and if they are in par with his neogeo one, I'll bug him to develop one for cps2. Then dream about Saturn and dreamcast/naomi.

I'm currently using both Gameboid and N64oid. Touchpads work!

They work in ICS. Dilemina may be using Gingerbread still, as would be quite normal given that ICS is a beta for us.

That I am. Probably won't be updating to ICS until it's an official build.

[Q] Has Anyone Tried FPse Yet?

Has anyone tried the new PS1 emu yet? The word generally is that it is miles ahead of psx4droid, however i dont have a G2/desire z yet. Im looking at getting this phone as my next purchase.
Yes, ofcourse. It is way much better than psx4droid! There is a thread on xda discussing FPse!
trust me its a hell lot better than psx, fpse is so much cooler and it runs a lot smoother than psx

The word would be correct. Just don't confuse savestates with loadstates. That made me lose about 4 hours of FFVII when I was drunk. Its badass though. I went online and found a FFVII savegame and put it on my SD, fpse read it just fine and I was back in business.

Was using it back in my WinMo days, now I'm using it on the DZ and I love it, the hardware keyboard makes all the difference.
Runs nice and smooth (I play without sound, though, personal preference).
FPSE is ok. a lot of the games that work on psx4droid, dont on FPSE, which can get quite annoying.
But the frame rate and the over all smoothness is better on FPSE.
AND if you get sixaxis pair tool from the market, you can play the games with a ps3 controller (FPSE)! The controller doesnt work however on psx4droid.
(Just a little input)

[Q] Has anybody compared Cps2, Neogeo, and other arcade Emus?

I was wondering if anybody has compared the competing arcade emulators that are available for the Xperia Play.
I mainly want to know what you prefer and why, so that I can make an informed decision when I pick one (or some) out.
For NeoGeo I prefer Neo.Emu over Neodroid, as the speed and intuitiveness are quite good and it controls very well for me too. Although it doesn't run any roms maid post 2000, which is too bad as I'd like to try out some of those later titles on this hardware. To be fair though I have not used Neodroid extensively as I kinda fell in love with Neo.Emu.
For cps2 I have tried CPS2HD, after fiddling with it got a few roms to work and the controls kinda work on the Play, but there are hiccups sometimes. It looks nice, but sometimes runs too fast. I have only tried a few roms though. I have heard that Cpsemu is an alternative but haven't tried it yet, and maybe some of those mame emulators too, but there are quite a few of them, plus I never really used mame proper on the PC, anyways I would really like to know what your thoughts are on the subject.
Any emulator wizards out there that can review and compare some of these emulators for a guy like me?
If so thanks for your time, I sure will appreciate it.

For me it is and has always been Tiger MAME. It runs neogeo, cps1,cps2, and more. With local netplay. Plays awesome on our phone. Nice and fast.

Cool. I have heard of it but have not tried it. Are you using the current version? I see that there are free versions and pay versions of tigermame on some stores. The google play store is very limited in my country, so some apps like this are difficult to get a hold of.
And sometimes can end up buying an obsolete or fake version from these shady Chinese marketplaces.
Which mame Rom sets is it optimised for? V145?
Sent from my PLAYSTATION PHONE using tapatalk
The free lets you save bit not load that save. I paid the $5 from within the app to unlock it. Totally worth it. Plus it gives you net-play. My friend and I play the Dungeon & Dragons tower of doom all the time on team mode.
Also this tiger mame is not on the android market. And I have tried all types of make sets and it takes them all, at least for me.

[Q] What emulators do you use for Snes, Nes, Sega etc personally?

Sigh.. ever since yongzh got pulled off the market. More people release theirs. Now I know .emu series was good. However seems more and more are coming up. So really what emulators are you all using? Personally I have not seen a need to replace any of yongzh's work. Then the latest one that works better then fpse, is the epsxe now for playstation.
So anyone here tried multiple ones? Which ones should we stay with? Kinda sucks paying 4$ per emulator and you dont even know how it compares to what was already out there for us.
So do you feel yongzh still has the ideal emulators or do you think anyone replaced him yet. Thanks. =)
I've used yongzh em's since they came out. The only 64 em I use is mupens64plus. They run great on my play. I haven't had the time to compare other ems because im testing aokp atm.
Sent from my R800x using xda app-developers app
Cept I am reading that on ICS, seems Yongzh lags now? So confusing lately.. stupid google.. remove one dev but let all the others stay.
I use Mupen64plus for N64 and Gameboid for the GBA
When i'll upgrade to ICS i will use N64oid cause of the Touchpad Support

N64oid work well on ICS?
I don't have a Play yet. (Planning on getting one for emulators) but I have been using the emulators by Robert Broglia on my Nexus 7 and Evo Lte. They aren't free (maybe he has free versions but I'm not sure)but work really well. I liked that he had iControlpad support built in so i no longer needed to use a second app with my icontrolpad and it appears he has Xperia Play support as well. The GBA bios is also built into the GBA emulator which isn't a huge deal but a nice little bonus.
I also have a full set of the oid emulators and a full set of yongzh tiger emulators if I need them as well. I prefer the emulators that Robert Broglia puts out due to them being actively supported.
SNES
NEO.emu
MD.emu
NES.emu

What's Your Favorite Game Emulator Variation?

Hi there, for a while now I thought the 'oid' series had the best emulators, like N64oid, GBCoid, Genesoid, etc...
I guess I thought they were the best because they were the first I've come across. But after recently browsing the market I've discovered that their are other variations of these already existing emulators, maupen64 & NES.EMU being 2 examples. Through little research I found that the 'oid' series usually have the best game compatibility, but yet while comparing them to similar apps in the store I discovered other emulators include interesting features such as new play, multi touch, and minor things of that nature...Especially PS1 emulators, there's like 3 of them! FPSE, EPSXE, I think PSX4DROID is still around? IDK.
My question (s) to you all is what game emulator do you like the best, and why.
Like maybe list the pros & cons and give your final decision on which you like the best?

hello,
i have been using xperia play for over an year now....i have tried almost all emulator related stuff that is available on market....i used psxperia(and fpse for some games). epsxe: well good graphics OpenGL support but too laggy on GB....psx4droid : too laggy and unplayble, So fpse is best as its new version supports touchpad on GB so u dont really need Psxperia conversion...and if u have ICS and overclocking enabled...it is best option for me..... and for nitendo 64......i have tried mupen64, n64droid and emu.n64....mupen64 supports touchpad that is good for some games but the performance is far behind n64oid....emu.n64 is average, a little lag but less supportability .....So if u have n64oid and you are using ICS 4.0.4 stock by markphyton with custom kernal .....it supports touch pad and is fastest available on market yet........so n64oid is best choice with ICS -nothing better......and talking about other emulators....u can use any since they work almost same ....no big issue!
thankyou and sorry for my bad english
Thanks for the input.
I'm on GB so I guess I'll stick with N64OID & FPSE. I am a little disappointed that N64oid does not support touch pads tho...

For GBA emulation, I was using Gameboid and it was fine, but now I tried MyBoy and I prefer it because it doesn't need a bios file and you can disable linear filtering (so the image is pixelated instead of blurry, which I like better)

Any news on the Yabause Sega Saturn emulator being ported by the Mupen64 guy?
My XPlay broke in March and its taken me until today to get a new one so Im pretty far behind on whats been happening

Zelda: The Windwaker, Dolphin (Gamecube and Wii) emulator for the Oneplus 5

Hello all,
Have been trying to get this emulator working for some time now with limited to half decent success through the likes of overclocking and reduced thermal throttling, but the experience has never been what I would call satisfactory, which is horrible because the emulator works on the shield and PC...
That being said enter the Oneplus 5
Installed the emulator from here https://dolphin-emu.org/download/?ref=btn (development versions)
Already have the game so i'm legally entitled to the ROM *NOTE* Please do not ask me to list locations where you can obtain the ROM, you should own the original before obtaining a copy
Changed the settings within the emulator and fired up the Windwaker, waited until a part of the game where it would normally lag or at the very least drop some frames and ........... perfection I've been able to play the game up until Dragon Roost Island without a single drop in performance, the HTC failed on the second island (Can't remember it's name but it's in the video) The onplus 5 has some serious power over other devices and this is testament to exactly that, a few more iterations from Qualcomm and i'm confident we'd have the grunt to be able to power some serious PC games, hell that old question of "Can it run Crysis" may be being asked soon Good times.
Anyway.
Below are instructions on how to play this game on your phone, I'm personally using a Moga controller as the experience is just waay better with a pad.
##########################################################################################################################
The Emulator
Download the Emulator from here https://dolphin-emu.org/download/?ref=btn (development versions)
Obtain the ROM (Again I can't provide this)
Copy the ROM in Zip format to your SD card
Fire up the Emulator and then compare your settings to the ones found in the video
Moga
If you are going to use a Moga controller you will need to set this up so it is using HID Bluetooth, for this you would choose B not A
Open Bluetooth and add the controller that is found, should be called Moga Pro if you have a pro, or the other names respectively if you have other variants
*NOTE* the original moga pocket does not seem to want to work on the Oneplus 5, this worked on my HTC 10 but actually kills BT on the oneplus? Weird
Next download the Moga Universal Driver app which can be found from here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.obsidianx.android.mogaime
*NOTE* for some reason i couldn't find it on my play store so use the above link? Again, weird!
Click Manage controllers and you should see your previously added controller, click this and then enable the driver
Click Enable Driver
Click Current mode and select Gamepad, no virtual keyboard
You should now be able to control the cursor on screen
Lastly
For in game settings, please refer to the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhgNxuu_YlM&t=8s
Apologies in advance, the HTC RE i used for the video does not focus well on screens? (what do you want for £40 ) and my mogas right stick is a bit icky so it doesn't always input up and down, using the Windwaker will be horrible for me i can tell
Anyway, enjoy and feel free to ask questions should you get stuck and I'll help out where I can.
I'm getting my op5 before the month ends and I'm eager to try this out.

Yea I've tried quite a few, even metal gear works well from the psp, a solid 20fps which is basically the same as the psp was. Not many other games which will stress it as much as that does.

PS2 isnt' quite there mate, it's laggy and thats down to the architecture of the PS2 and emulating it is a massive ballache, similarly the PS3 even on a monster PC has a hard time being emulated.
It'll be done over time with optimizations but i fear that our trusty Oneplus devices may never have that ability.
But to be fair, the fact that it can run the windwaker is testament to how rapid this device actually is, PSP too, not as well optimized but it's running perfectly well.

Technically this is still warez. Nintendo explicitly states on their website the falsehood of owning a physical game entitles you to have a rom. They said this is still illegal to own a rom and use it im an emulator.
Dont mean to ruin a good time on here but you can get in trouble. Heres a link since i know it will be asked for https://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp

I haven't stated where to get ROMs from, plus you could dump the ROM yourself, I'm pretty certain you are legally entitled to a copy of a game you already own, I'm also certain you can download a ROM for evaluation purposes, 24 hours is the allowed time.
Obviously people don't listen to this but I have read this many times over the last decade, so unless something has changed I will always stick to what I've learned.
Not completely sure Nintendo can ask that of people? But again not sure.
PS: also as you already own the game there is no harm in obtaining a copy, they have already been paid and you the user haven't gained anything more than what you initially paid for, there is an argument for this so I'd say it's an on the fence rule.
Either way, this thread is a how to and not a break the law thread, I don't supply the locations of ROMs and I don't make anyone download anything illegal, this is simply information.
