Guys. I'm experiencing a BIG problem. Whenever I try to start the camera, the phone hangs, only the onscreen buttons glow when clicked and then I receive an error saying 'Camera has stopped responding' and another one showing 'Talk has stopped responding'. I am totally screwed because I'm here in India, I bought the phone from Germany, and Samsung doesn't give global warranty. I AM DOOMED! What do I do?!
Clear everything and reinstall.

I agree, do a factory reset.
I guess it would be worth your while to try a third party camera app and see if that works before going through the hassle of a complete wipe.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
yea reset it or install a different rom and see.
Definitely sounds like a software problem most likely a kernel issue. Download and flash a different combo.

Flashing stock fixed it ^-^! Thanks guys!

Has anybody else had an issue with the camera view having multi colored lines and the it freezes. Sometimes if I do it fast enough I can take the picture and it looks great. I am all stock btw and it has been doing this straight out of the box.

Clear data on camera app and let me know if it continues
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
yeah, it still continues after i clear data. tried a factory reset and it still continues. just rooted and im gonna install another rom to see it my factory camera app was somehow corrupted. i dont think its a hardware issue, but i guess we will find out.
Edit: Still does it. If i force stop the camera app after it freezes and try to reopen it, it will just pop up with the camera symbol then instantly close.

Try a different camera app perhaps?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
Sounds like a software issue i would root and try a different camera app like knipp suggested you could also try adb pushing a new camera app if you dont want to root but keep a backup of your original if you go that route. Or try one from the market im not positive but I think they may rely on the stock app
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
If it's still doing it with another ROM it's a hardware issue and you need to return while under warrentee still.
The ones from the market dont work, i do think that they rely on the stock camera. besides the ones from the market, i dont know what to try.
Edit: I did try 2 different roms, one with stock kernel and one with custom kernel and it still does it. Guess im gonna have to unroot and bring it back to Verizon. Would they give me a new one right there or do you think i would have to wait for them to mail me another one, i bought it brand new and have only had it since friday. Been doing this right out of the box.
They will most likely mail you a new one with a box to mail the Old one back in

I am very pleased with my local Verizon store today. I went in and told them the problem and without any hassle they opened up their cabinet and handed me a brand new box. Camera works great on this one and I am a happy camper.
Edit: they also gave me a $50 mail in rebate on top of the discounts that I already got online.

you probably just disabled the app. go into app manager and it should be in there.

So I enabled the camera again. Thank you. But it still force closes. When i open it, it just shows a black screen and after a moment it force closes. Did I burn the sensor somehow?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
also, I cannot launch the camera from any app like eBay and etc....and even the flashlight widget doesn't work and force closes
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
go back into that app manager and clear the data for the camera app. then try the camera again the normal way (i dunno about ebay apps, ect).
I cleared data. Stopped the app. I did all that but didn't fix the problem. I pulled the battery out and let the phone sit for a few and then turned it on and it worked. Very weird. I wanna try to replicate the problem but I'm scared on a 750 dollar phone with no insurance. It was when I was using paper camera and taking a few pictures that this happened...

don't panic. worst case scenario you can just flash the original image that google provides or any custom roms. you can find plenty of information in the dev section

I have same problem with paper camera. When Im close it app crash and camera stop working...
This problem just occured to me, But I was NOT using Paper Camera.
Camera *AND* GTalk both force close on launch.
I was running CM9 with Franco kernel, latest Gapps. it just occurred randomly on a reboot, no flashes or anything in-between...
anyone else have issues with this?
I'm having issues too. If I turn my phone off while in the camera app, and then turn my phone back on, it gives the error that my camera cannot be found. Only way I know how to fix it is to reboot my phone. I'm running stock 4.0.2, rooted.

My GN every time I boot says, Android is Upgrading, start applications, what do this means???
Im still on 4.0.1 ics..
Any advice please

This is normal. Your phone is not updating its building app cache or something.
Search is your friend.
Question is though... Why is it always rebuilding?
Is it still completely stock from Day 1 of purchase?
Have you rooted it? If so, what method?
Have you installed any apps?
Have you tried doing a factory reset? (Ensure you back up your data)
The phone is purelly stock
I havent done nothing except using it and installing apps...the regular as an every day phone...i got since sunday
Should I factory reset?
Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
And what do that means?
Does your GN does the same thing?
Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If a factory reset will I lose my photos and the musics and apk's i have on Download folder?
Any way to back up that?
Thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
mine does it to. its normal
I can tell you its not normal for it to happen on every single boot! It's probably an app that is causing issues with the os. Try and remember what you recently installed and uninstall a couple apps to try and narrow it down. This happened to me when I installed Wallet.
mine has done it since i powered it on out of the box the very 1st time. so i'd say its normal
I wonder why its doing it then? If on my device it only does it when system files are being played with but on others on every boot?
Happens for me too, only noticed it since upgrading to 4.01 (stock)
Hey guys. I'm new to the Galaxy Nexus forum and I need help. My phone has been turning its screen back on after I lock it. Most people say its a hardware issue but I just got this phone and its brand new. Is it a software issue?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
You bet it can. Try factory resetting your phone. I do assume you're still running stock everything.
If you are and that fails, a hardware issue could be due to a sticky or faulty power button.
I'm running stock 4.2.2 and there's barely anything on it right now. I'm the second owner of this phone but the original owner never used it so I don't know what else is wrong with it.

usually caused by an application (generally by a live wallpaper). boot into safe mode and see if it persists.

So my camera seems to have stopped working properly. I don't believe it's a software issue. What happens is I fire up the camera and the screen will either remain black (while still being able to navigate camera options) or the camera will pop up and then the viewfinder will stop after a few seconds.
At first I figured it was software so I cleared the cams cache and data. No luck. Then I decided to flash a different ROM. I tried CM, and Dans GPE rom and no luck. Anyone got any ideas?
You could try replacing the back facing camera.
I did this on my last s4. (Ordered an oem part off a different s4).
It didn't fix my problem, however. At the time people were telling me it was a software problem.
In my case flashing some of the cyanogen nightlies when they were having some trouble with the company that makes the focal camera.
Long story short.
I called T-Mobile. They sent me another s4.

There are camera options in the play store that can verify if it's hardware or software.

In play store search "google camera ",try installing and run. If it functions profit, if not then it most likely is hardware related.
