[Q] Anyone else having poor Wireless signal - HTC One X

Just wondering if anyone else has really crap WiFi signal strength on the One X
Im litteraly about 7 feet away from the wireless access point and have 2 bars, about 15 feet have nothing. Its extremly annoying, my sensation has full bars all around the house.
Cheers

Yes. My wireless connection is VERY bad.
I have a laptop & android tablet via wireless with an excellent connection.
When I realised the HTC one X connection was either so bad or couldn't connect I recharged my HTC Desire HD and put next to my one X to compare.
Guess what?
The desire HD had a fast and solid wireless connection - the one X was unusable!
Something is not right here......
Any ideas?
Is this a systematic inherent fault with these models?
If it is-it's gonna get binned and my Desire HD will be used again...

I have the complete opposite, my Desire HD was pretty poor signal but the One X is excellent for me

You on wireless N? I am getting full signal on my technicolor router on wifi N. My One X has full signal. You rebooted your router just as a test and try connect again?

Was on N yeah, had same problem on different wireless networks, I have a new replaced phone now with no problem with the WiFi, but I'm still on 1.26 on this replacement

its going to be the 1.28 update, I have been playing with the versions and testing several wifi routers.
On 1.26 my 2.4Ghz N router and 5Ghz N router are both seen at the far corner of the house with full signal strength and good throughput.
On 1.28 at the far corner I cant even see the 5Ghz one, and the 2.4Ghz one has low signal and keeps dropping out.
Sat 2 meters from the routers, again 1.26 gets full signal on both and speed is great (especially on the 5Ghz one).
However on 1.28 I can see both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz one however both have weak signal and keeps dropping out.
Something in 1.28 is broken badly with wifi.

Hellow,
Have yo tried the new update? I wonder if that really helps with the wifi issues

I'm about 15 feet from my router too, with line of sight, but I have full strength.
I did notice the other day, I had no signal in my yard (60 feet and a couple walls), and thought that was pretty poor... Not so worried now, lol.

Try going into settings wifi then find the three dot menu on top right press that then choose advanced there's an option to improve wifi performance

Guys, currently testing a 1.29 base ROM, and all my WiFi issues have stopped. Much better and more steady reception.

I also updated to 1.29, but WiFi signal is still very bad. I'm on ARHD 5.1.0 now.
My WiFi signal was originally very good, but since a few days/weeks I got bad signal strength...

I reported the issue @ HTC again since the phone is getting pretty worthless without a normal working WiFi. Maybe smart that all complaining people @ XDA also report it @ HTC to the will start to work on a solution.

I got radio 1.1204.104.14 and build number 1.29.401.7 right now.
Yesterday I even went back to stock (+ stock recovery) and applied official 1.28 and afterwards 1.29 OTA 'to be sure' the radio/HBoot got correctly updated, but it didn't fix the WiFi problem. (I know radio is also being updated by just flashing a ROM, but I just wanted to check)
It's very annoying that my phone loses its WiFi signal every time because the signal is too bad. Really hope it's just a software problem and HTC can fix it.

have you tried making sure your router wifi channel width is set to 20mhz?
People with it set to 40 have had issues.

It is set to 20MHz and Wireless mode is set to mixed 802.11g and 802.11n.
I already tried switching channel from 1-13, but it didn't help much.
I see more and more people complaining about bad WiFi reception after the update.

I am on 3rd floor with full WiFi bars using Asus black diamond on floor 1.

You not believe, but at Russian forum I've saw similar problem with wifi. Man who has it going in service center and there he get answer, that problem is in rooting, and It's all ok with signal.
Ps: service man not wish to hear anything else. They also tell that is not warranty thing, because phone is rooted...
PPS: also he check his phone at many wifi spots, same for all of it. so we think thats problem not in wifi settings on spot. may be hardware issue?

Poor Wifi - 1.29.401.11

Since receiving the 1.29 builds (.11 this morning) I've noticed the One X's wifi performance to be seriously sub-par. My home Wifi AP (a Cisco WAP4410N) is in the next room to me and yet the Wifi indicator on the One X status bar shows only the dot (no bars) and Wifi Analyzer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en) shows a signal strength of about -90 dBm (very close to disconnecting). My Galaxy Nexus by comparison (placed beside the One X) shows between -50 dBm and -60 dBm... (my iPhone 4 never drops below two bars and seems to hold a strong signal wherever I go in the house).
Is this similar to others experience? Something's seriously at fault here, it's so bad I'm thinking of switching back to the Galaxy Nexus...
(Sorry for the poor quality of the photos below, taken quickly).

Same here - got 129.401.11 this morning and wifi indicator now seems 2 bars less than before the update. In fact wifi has now totally dropped off despite my netbook having 4 bars in the same place.
Is it possible to rollback out of this update as I was having no issues before the update?
I've had a hox from 3 since day one. The original 3 software had this bug, the updated 3 software had this bug and now I'm on the latest Arhd 6.0 wifi is slightly improved but still much worse than my wife's gnex my pc and our laptop.
Really hope HTC can fix this with software and soon

Hi - does settings-privacy-"backup my settings" and "automatic restore" keep all my settings, including the general phone settings and app settings?
I've never done a factory reset on a HTC and don't want to root so Titanium backup isn't an option. Thanks.
I've had the same issue with mine since day 1 with no real improvement through ROM upgrades. I tried the same test with my Asus Transformer side by side with the One X and from about 5 meters from the router but still in direct view of it I got -50dbm on the TF and -90dbm on the HOX
I also get times when the the radio won't reconnect after losing signal requiring the Aircraft mode switch to reset the radio.
All very sub standard and now really wish I'd got an unbranded phone so I could get latest OTA's

Yes, tried that numerous times. Most of the times it was on Best Wifi, but didn't help.
Yes, I had best wi-fi on before and still have it enabled but it still seems to be a fair bit worse after this s/w upgrade.
I have the same problem last week after my 1.29 update, what i did was to switched my wifi router off and after a few seconds switched it on again, after i did that, i got a full bar again, hope this help.
The problem I'm seeing is that the wifi seems really erratic - it can show full bars or no bars with the phone in the same place and Wifi-Analyzer shows the signal to be weaker than I'd expect and compared to other devices in the same location.

I'm doubtful. It seems it's hardware related.
Try squeezing the back top left of the phone and watch the wifi improve before your eyes.
A loose connection seems the most likely fault. It's send back time I'm afraid

Same here. Signal strength improves dramatically when gentle pressure is applied on the top left then drops away completely when released before returning to a weak signal state. Not something that a software update will resolve. Disappointed to have to return this otherwise flawless phone.

Horrendous WiFi signal strength

Even since JB, my WiFi signal is terrible. In my bedroom, my laptop gets 4 bars, my nexus gets 1. 10 feet from the router I get 3 bars. Is there s fix for this? I've searched and I can't find one.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I too get crappy wifi reception but I can't totally blame Jellybean for it. When I got my Gnex JB just came out so i did not have a lot of time to do a before and after comparison.
I just put a second router in my livingroom to help and sitting less than 10 feet I only get 3 bars on the phone. I hope we are not the only ones with this problem.
Even my GNEX has a bad reception ... I have the impression that it was better with ICS. But I would never go back. I subscribe maybe jumping out of a solution ...
I got the same problem with my GNex. No way to solve it and just let it to be what it is.
Which ROM's are you on? I'm using CM10 and have no problems with Wi-Fi signal in my apartment. Are you using 2.5 GHz or 5 GHz?
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
I am using Maddoggin's Jelly Bean Rom which was built from stock and not CM10, some people are saying that the kernel is responsible for the wifi and that the radios only handle the cellular and LTE signals hmmmm. His ROM is using the stock kernel so I may try flashing a different one to see if this helps or try different ROM altogether.
Sometimes when the phone is on the table in sleep mode, if I turn it on it will have like three or maybe four bars of wifi for a second then it drops down to two or one. Holding the phone in landscape seems to help with reception too. Maybe this is due to placement of the wifi antenna?
I have two Netgear routers in my house and I belive they are 2.4 Ghz, I have them on different channels so the signals do not overlap.
There maybe an off chance that the phone could be defective but before I head over to the Sprint store I need to do a little more investigating.

[Q] Poor wireless connection

I just got a new One X (well it was a used one ) but I have one big problem - wireless is not really working... It connects but the signal strength is not very great (sometimes only the "Bottom" of the signal bar is white and the bars are all greyed out). Sometimes even on full signal I have a speed from 250 kb/s and pages are not loading. But 1 minute later I have a speed of 11 MB/s (wich is the fastest speed I can get here)... Its very frustrating while watching youtube videos or using WhatsApp...
Is there a RADIO Upgrade for One X? Or should I sent it to costumer Support? Or is there anything I can do?
I am using the ViperX ROM and have a SpeedPort W701V Router from T-Mobile (Germany)
Thanks
Robin
Well there can be 3 options
1: you can try different settings/channels on the router
2: you are on the 3.18 base of the viper x .... the base has WiFi issues with alot of people. No real solution for that atm (HTC fault)
3: you have a faulty WiFi module, early builds of the HTC one X can experience it. Its hardware related
tried different router already - didnt help. Also tried other ROM - didnt help either...
Well, hardware fault I think.. :/ what can I do? self repair? (without soildering I hope )
I dont repair phones so thats out of my league
In case of option 3, take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538

Very poor WiFi signal

Something happened to my mobile phone. WiFi works pretty weird, I have a router with stronger antenna in my home, every single device works great with it (Pentagram Cerberus), gets stable connection even 20 meters away from it. My HTC worked OK (however the signal was very poor too) till now. At the moment it can't even find any WiFi networks while it should at least 2 (mine and neighbour's). It finds my rounter only sometimes (not everytime), when the phone is 10 cm away from the antenna at max (!!!).
What is the cause?

It could be deterioration over time. The desire is a pretty old phone, and its wifi antenna isn't as good as new.

do you inspect what are you saying?
1) router settings has been changed, like N standard, HTC Sense sometimes do not like it
2) update RADIO/clean the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277365
3) the antenna is broken
I had the same problem. My wifi antenna wore off, and I couldn't find any WI-FI further than 1m. After I replaced it, everything was fine.

Hey, thanks for your post.
1. It's all the time set to 802.11b+g in my router, it worked quite fine before but the signal was poor too (not as poor as it is now).
2. I've got the newest radio version, about the cleaning, will do in a day or two, thanks!
3. Is the antenna removable so I could buy a new one somewhere? How does it look like?

1. with b+g my Desire is not connecting, try Mixed mode or G mode with Channel 20Mhz.
2. then check what happens when you connect to Free wi-fi or friend router.
3. i don't think that antenna is wrong, but http://www.formymobile.co.uk/desiredisassembly.php#.UmYabBCDpD8 (4 step probably may be antenna)
I managed to semi-fix my issue, the pins were unable to connect with WiFi antenna. There's also another side of this - MW5 seems to have the crappiest WiFi signal ever, tried other ROMs and the signal is much better on them, however I like MW5 much. I guess this caused by MW5's kernel - 2.6.35.14-cox-oxy - could you propose me any good replacement for it? I guess thalamus ones will do the trick but can't find them anywhere (official site does not work for me).

[Q] Weak Wi-Fi

So I just got my Nexus 7 fhd couple days ago. I've noticed that it has very weak wifi reception. When I in the same room as router I have full signal, behind one door half signal, and behind a second 0 signal, on my laptop and iphone i get about 70% signal behind a 2nd door (it's probably only 15 feet away from the router). I'm running on Wireless N 300mbit 5GHz if it matters. I read similar thread for old N7 but didn't find any solution, wonder if anyone else have the same problem? Android 4.4.2. Thank you
Is there interference with other routers on the same channel?
Also noticed a teensy bit weaker wifi reception compared to 2012 nexus 7.

It's not a little bit, i'm 10 feet away from a router and have only half bars while all my other devices show full signal
Also i tried different ROMs
I have the opposite experience in that I get better reception with my N7 than any of my other devices. When I have had issues with Wi-Fi reception with other devices in the past, the only thing I found that would fix it was to reboot and reset the router. And oddly enough, once or twice the only thing that worked was to change the password. Hope you find a solution because this thing rips when you have a good signal.
