Hello, I have been able to change on every other ROM i have used, but unable to here. Tried pushing using adb, tried using root explorer, and as of just now, I have reloaded the rom with the new bootanimation in it. Sad to say, I looked at the one that was preloaded in the rom, and that isnt even the bootanimation that shows. Ughhh, just getting frustrated, hope someone else knows. And yes, I even tried renaming it sanim.zip.

Boot animations are handled differently on ICS. Instead of bootanimation.zip it uses another format (I tried to look it up but I'm currently running AOKP which uses another format). I myself haven't seen any way to change it yet.
Sorry!

Yeah, I figured that much out. I was hoping I was wrong in my searches, but handled by a .qmg file. I just don't know how to edit to point in the right direction or even know how to read one yet. I was hoping someone out there could point me in the right direction. I have found a forum which explains how it is handled, just doesnt tell me how to read/edit the file. Still searching......

Okay, so an update is required here. Aftery research, all things point to samsung changing to bootani.qmg during froyo rollout. I can find several other threads with .qmg files in them for boot, but nothing with custom boots due to the .qmg software being too mich $$$$. Will keep this ipdated as much as I can. Seems that there is a hex editor that can read them??? But I am at work, so cant try until tonight.
EDIT: This software appears to be unobtainable. You can look at the .qmg file via hex editor, but after reading all day long, these types of files are a waste of time to try and change, and have been a dead topic here on xda for quite some time. It boils down to the kernel whether it will support a different boot animation or not. So.... Now you know how much a dev has to work in order to make us all happy, because believe me, kernels are not easy, nor creating a custom rom in order to match and flow smoothly with it.
MOD: Close this thread if deemed necessary, was just hoping for a good answer, finally found it myself...

I seem to either be one of the very few that wants the NASCAR app on my phone or just not be able to find out how to get it.
I recently got SyndicateROM Frozen working on my phone and the only stock app that I would like back is the NASCAR one. I've tried downloading the .apk file and installing it but I keep getting an error saying NASCAR is only available for Sprint and Nextel users. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
if you want that app try looking into one of the stock roms zip files and pulling that app out of it and placing it onto the sdcard on your phone and then install using my file or astro
Exactly just search for the apk and install it with astro or root explorer. A good.place to look is in a stock rom file under system/app

Hmm... I did something simular to that last night and got it installed, but it is still telling me that it is only for Sprint or Nextel users and won't let me run it on the rooted phone.
Had similar issue on moment
A lot of the custom roms change the carrier name to the name of there rom instead of sprint. So the program thinks you are on another carrier other then sprint, in order to fix that you need to change the carrier name back to sprint. I think it was in the frameworkres file if i can remember correctly.

That coule be a good possibility as well. I guess I would have to do a trial and error with that seeing as I cannot post anything in the op for the rom yet.
Though there isn't that many files in the in the frameworks folder but none of them named Syndicate or somehting simular to know what to change.

Hmm after going into the res folder I do not see anything named values and then strings.xml. Also would the name of strings.xml need to be changed or is there something inside of it that would need changed. Then a complete reflash I'm assuming.
Thank you.

You have to decompile the framework to get that folder. Just follow my guide on changing the sprint branding I posted some tome ago

I'm probably doing it wrong or something but I get that file open but do not see a folder names values. I see one name res but not a values inside of that folder. I found that post you were talking about and there was a guy on there that you said was needing to do the same thing I'm wanting to do but he also didn't reply with a follow up on it which didn't help. I've got all this flashing and stuff figured out for the most part but all this in depth stuff with the files I'm pretty dumb with.

Anyone get it working yet on the EVO?
I tried flashing that Zip and no luck. Used Root explorer to copy the files to the correct locations instead but it still does not show up in my list of Live Wallpapers. Do any of the libraries need to be modified or something?
Well if anyone who knows anything about developing could take a look at it, I'd be very appreciative
I'm interested in this also. I like me some live wallpapers

Pretty sure those are just image files, so you don't flash that zip. Simply open it up and copy the backgrounds you want onto your phone.
I haven't looked into them yet, I've been mobile for a while. I'll try tomorrow tho. Thank you indi.

The streak.zip.
Let me know if anyone has gotten this working Thanks!
I honestly thought that I would find an answer for this but apparently I truly am "special" or weird in this one. I am brand new to the world of rooting and roms and currently have the latest version of Cleangb running on my epic. Fantastic rom and a giant thanks to any and all involved. One thing that has always driven me crazy about the epic is whenever you lose your signal or regain your signal there is an audible sound. I am sure getting rid of it is as easy as just deleting the audio file for it but I have done some searching through the root directory and cannot find the audio file for it. Does anyone know the location of this file? Also is it safe to delete or does one need to replace it with a blank audio file?

/system/media/audio/ui the file should be in here. i am on cm9 so i cant tell you the exact name of file. i dont like sounds other than ringtone, notification and alarm so i delete the entire ui folder and all unused ringtones etc.

I took a look at the CleanGB zip and searched the ui folder and found no sounds there...And an extensive Google search netted the same results. Seems the question has been asked a bunch of times across multiple forums and devices, but no has responded with a clear answer. Maybe one of our devs out here can find the solution. Although I am really starting to think it is possibly built into the ROM framework, instead of just a notification sound...
It has been attempted by our best devs. It is cooked into the TW ROM to where it has never been found.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I will try just moving the entire ui folder out and see if that does anything and report back. If that doesn't work then yeah hopefully one of the devs can clarify if it is built into the rom. Thanks for the posts everyone.
And then throw on an AOSP ROM like CM7 and problem solved.

I would like to try CM7 at some point but I am a little apprehensive about it at the moment. What led me to root and put a new rom on was how disgusted I was with the constant freezing of stock. CleanGB appeared to look the most stable of any out there. Since I use easytether a lot I liked that the mobile hotspot was also unlocked. Correct me if I am wrong but CM7 does have some tethering issues does it not? It just seemed like there were a few more issues associated with it than CleanGB at this point. I am open to convincing though!

Somehow I missed your reply. That clear it up quite a bit though. My only question though is CleanGB is based of of GB and not TW so does that mean he just cooked it into the GB rom as well?

CleanGB is based off TW stock. It's not AOSP Gingerbread, it just has the TW apps removed.

OK so I have been trying to DL and set up custom lock screens, but for some odd reason I am having a brain fart and can't get them working. I have tried Zipthemer and also CWR and neither seems to work on my GS3. I am also trying to find some cool themes and get them working, but always get errors.
The errors for the lock screens through Zipthemer says "can't find the control file".
Through CWR it just doesn't work.
With the themes they just say that they are missing assets. Mainly for the screen resolution. Apparently I'm great with CPUs, but I feel like a COMPLETE NOOB when it comes to android molding.
PLEASE HELP the noob!!!!!

First thing you need to answer is if you are rooted or not..... if not I am not sure you can apply themes. If you are rooted, then you should state which rom you are using. I am going to take a wild guess and say you are on stock rom not rooted.... Not sure what CWR is, but if the app says requires root then it won't work on a non rooted phone.... Since you are new to the scene, rooting your phone will void the warrenty incase you are thinking of going that route.....
Some launchers can be themed but you need to say which one you are using also.....
Yes I am rooted. I'm using CM 10.1.0 RC2 on an AT&t GS3. And sorry CWR was suppose to be Clockworkmod recovery. CWM.

I was wondering if there are some flashable fonts for this phone. I have some that I used on my old Evo 3D. Could they be used or do they need to be set up especially for this device?
Download the font(s) you want, push them to /system/fonts, rename them using the names of the built-in fonts you want to replace, and reboot.

Thats what I thought, I used it, renamed the file and copied and replaced the file in "Fonts" and it seemed to work. So I went to Rom Tool box to install it, rebooted and Nadda. Do I need to be on a custom Rom? I am Rooted and Unlocked on ZVB.
Ok, I got it finally. On the stock ZVB Rom under Display/Fonts, there are only certain ones available to use even though there are a lot more in the Fonts folder under System. So, I had to pick the ones in that list to replace. A small catch is that if there is a name of a font there, such as "HYCoffee" in the Fonts folder there are as follows: HYCoffee_Bold.ttf and HYCoffee_Regular.ttf. You have to replace both if you want it to look right. Just so happens I picked Black Chancery folder and it had bold and regular in it so I replaced the other ones accordingly. As I was instructed to do earlier in this thread I just renamed mine to the ones I wanted to write over, copy and paste, then went to the Display settings and picked HYCoffee and Whalla!! Looks Reeeaaal Gooood Too
THANKS FOR EVERYONES INPUT!
I haven't used a stock-based ROM in ages, so there are a few minor differences (I don't have a Display > Fonts for instance), but I'm glad you got it figured out!

I usually prefer custom Roms but other than Lifeless, they all seem a little under developed yet. When more of the bugs get ironed out I'll install one. I had a couple already with this new ZVB and I just wasn't happy. Today I downloaded a WiFi Hotspot App but I couldn't get it to work so I'm going to try and figure that out today. If I was on a ZVB custom Rom I wouldn't be having any connectivity problems I don't think but I''m going to try and work with this stock one for a while.

Again, it's been a while, but if I recall correctly there was only 1 tethering app that I could ever get to work right on stock. I think it was just called "Wifi Tether" (had a yellow icon), and only an older version seemed to work properly. Look around in the Lifeless thread, I know it was posted in there somewhere, along with how to adjust the settings to get it working.

Yeah, I finally found it after searching all day and downloading countless wifi apps. Its WiFi Tether by TrevE Mod. You have to use his settings though. Thanks for your input. :good:
If you're rooted, you can just use Font Installer app. I have been using it for years. Its free and works well with all ROMs and devices - at least in my experience. I add it to all my ROM builds and it hasn't caused an issue yet. It comes with a decent selection of installed fonts to choose from, and you can also download fonts to your device and access the font file through the app. It will show you what they look like and install them. But, be forewarned, some fonts don't play nice and will cause a bootloop. In my experience, the really fancy and 'thicker' looking fonts usually bork due to size issues.
