Back to stock - HTC One X

Hey guys,
I'm currently running ADHD 1.2.3 on my hox. I was silly enough to not make a nandroid backup and so I wanted to find out how to get back to stock so I can receive the ota update. I have a rough idea after searching but really don't fancy bricking my phone. The process using a ruu is a little confusing.

Relock bootloader
Install stock recovery
Download RUU matching your device CID and open the exe.

Another possibility is to install Cid Getter via the App store.

Warranty?
How about the warranty? Is HTC gonna be able to find out that you unlocked it and then relocked it again?

Why don't you just flash ARHD 3.1.0 which already has the latest 1.28 OTA update?

A lot of people think that you will lose your warranty unlocking the bootloader. This is not true.
If you brick your device as a result of flashing roms etc... then HTC will tell you to jog on. If your phone develops a hardware fault or anything else then they will honor the warranty.

I just had this conversation with them today that states otherwise:
Please wait while we find an agent to assist you...
You have been connected to Luke.
Ricardo Amaral: Hi Luke
Ricardo Amaral: Are you there?
Luke: Hi Ricardo, thank you for contacting HTC Support, I am looking in to your query now.
Luke: Sorry my PC did not notify me
Ricardo Amaral: No problem.
Luke: What questions do you have regarding HTC Dev?
Ricardo Amaral: I'm aware that unlocking the bootloader through htcdev.com voids the warranty, correct?
Luke: that is correct
Ricardo Amaral: Does it completely void the warranty or just partial? I mean, if I have some kind of hardware problem, like many that have been plaguing the One X, unfortunately, is the warranty sill void in such situations?
Ricardo Amaral: *still
Luke: The whole warranty will be void. All repairs are chargeable
Ricardo Amaral: Hum... Someone contacted HTC with this same inquiry and they told him otherwise. That's why I wanted to double-check.
Luke: I did double check then with my supervisor
Luke: I am 100% sure it will void all your warranty
Ricardo Amaral: Ok, glad I could clarify that.
Ricardo Amaral: About unlocking the bootloader through htcdev.com, is the process reversible or not at all?
Luke: It is not reversible, once you have unlocked the phone it will remain that way
Ricardo Amaral: About S-OFF, I assume it also voids the warranty?
Luke: Yes this will still void the warranty
Ricardo Amaral: I think that's it for now.
Ricardo Amaral: Thank you for your time

[Official Unlocking Bootloader] HBOOT HTC Desire

HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC Desire:
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9920000_Bravo_Froyo_hboot_1.03.0003_R.exe
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9940000_BravoC_S-RUU_Alltel_UTSI_001-27_hboot_1.09.exe
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9940000_BravoC_S-RUU_UTSI_028-47_hboot_1.09.exe
After this you must reboot in FastBoot Mode and type in Command Prompt: fastboot oem get_identifier_tokenSubmit
Then submit the token in order to receive your unlock code binary file...
When copying the token, start with this line:
<<<< Identifier Token Start >>>>
And end with this line:
<<<<< Identifier Token End >>>>>
The difference with the official way is that you only unlock the bootloader. You don't get S-OFF so you can't make changes 'on the fly' with Android running, you'd need to do changes with the phone in HBOOT/fastboot mode.
Hi,
thanks man. I'll have a good play with this later today.

If you are using AlphaRev's HBOOT, you should flash downgrade hboot first to be able to flash any other hboot...
I tried this last night but when I tried to flash the unlock binary file it just sat there then came up failed.

the official way of unlocking bootloader. a bit more restrictive than true s-off (cant flash radio)
theres a thread with a little discussion about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431726
FYI.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662710
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

it's what I was thinking, what's the point of unlocking it with this.. and if you do that I bet you won't be able to flash an alpharev hboot since you can't roll back hboot version, and running revolutionary won't work since it's different hboot version.
That's my hypothesis on this anyway.
Yup. Correct. Unless you flash a hexedited version of this hboot, which has the version downgraded. Any guineapigs? It's useless, unless you plan to retain HTC's stock recovery to flash custom roms. Which again is useless..

Including me.. There's no way to be completely sure that the hexedited portion is the correct bit which decides the version. I flashed a hexedited hboot onto my device, and it did downgrade the version number displayed on the hboot screen, but that does not mean the version lock happens there.
But for fun, you can change the bit that says Alpharev/Revolutionary to whatever you like.

No Need To Downgrade 2.13.401.2 anymore, HTCDEV released latest version

Good news for you guys having updated latest FOTA and lost unlocked bootloader. If downgrading did not work out for you, visit htcdev.com.
They released an official RUU for the latest firmware to be unlocked.
Also do wish me luck, bc latest FOTA bricked my device. Maybe I can revive it this way.
But nevertheless, no need to downgrade anymore.
To upgrade to 2.13.401.3 do i have to go back to stock recovery or does it work with cwm or goldcard ?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App
I'm sorry, this has nothing to do with upgrading to 2.13.401.3.
This is just for telling people already having 2.13.401.3, that they now can unlock the bootloader with a HTCDEV RUU
Yes i know it, but i downloaded the ruu update.exe because i don't received the fota and i read somewhere on xda that we have to go back to stock recovery for update.
yes, that's right. but this is the wrong place for your question.
Sorry i just realise it now, i forgot you update via fota
yap..I just opened a website htcdev, there is no more 2.13.401.2

read title from theq86 this is news about official RUU for the latest firmware to be unlocked, so theres no need to downgrade if you want to unlock bl (if you're on 2.13.401.3)
In addition: there is only hboot file in the RUU-update That means that our phones will be always unlockable after flashing every next ROM update from HTC. No more outdated RADIO.

Huh, that's funny. If you listen to some people around here, HTC is a giant corporate gorilla that doesn't care about its peon customers or listen to them at all. They were never going to unlock the Wildfire S bootloader in the first place, and then after they did, they killed us with an RUU that relocks it just to torment us, and they were never going to solve that problem for us either.
Thanks HTC for listening to your customers... AGAIN!

but.. the bootloader status still *RELOCKED* not *LOCKED*
i'm afraid if the service center think this is void the warranty
When you unlocked your bootloader you waived your warranty rights and sent HTC your phone's identifier token. Even if you could re-lock your bootloader, they still have record that you unlocked it. I know that's not what you want to hear but I'm afraid that is the reality of your situation.
If the phone has an obvious physical problem, maybe they'll honor the warranty.
Question: your phone is a One X. How come you are posting on the One V forum?

Just because you applied for the token doesnt mean u used it.
If somehow "locked" can be reestablished and not "relocked" then HTC could not prove that the bootloader was unlocked at all. thus not voiding any warranty.
Also there is alot of buzz on the forums atm with regard to the legality of HTCs stance once unlocking the bootloader.
Here in the UK and Europe, HTC should honour the Warranty for hardware unless they can definitely prove that modifying the software caused the issues reported at the time of repair. IF they cant then EU consumer law says that they should honour the repair.
The best thing to do is send it to htc and if the try and worm their way out of a free repair ask for proof that you caused the issue. If they cannot prove it which i doubt they can then you should push for a repair and not take no for an answer. If they continue to say no, escalate it further and if u are within the EU threaten leagal action in line with EU consumer law, HTC will be fully aware of there true obligation to its consumers but it wont stop them trying to pull a fast one.

They got the IMEI but they cannot really say if you used it.
Besides I live in europe, so if hardware faiure which is not casued by the software the warranty is yours. BUT they won't update the software for you (for free of course)
My neigbour had a defected and relocked one (TFT panel defect) and they changed it (but asked that was it unlocked via HTCDev)
Also that RELOCK cannot be set to LOCKED unfortunatly... At least for now...

Do global HTC One X's come with S-OFF?

I have owned an HTC Incredible and an HTC Rezound in the past, and I'm fairly certain they came with S-ON. (I have also owned about every Samsung phone in existence, its just my HTC expertise is limited).
Well, I didn't want the AT&T version of the HTC because I really like the Tegra3. So I got a Global Unlocked HTC One X. Great phone...but when I went to do the whole unlocking & rooting business I found this:

Yes you could've pushed it via an ZIP file using HBOOT so you've let HTC know for no reason

Thanks for reading and sorry for my bad english.

That's really weird and interesting.....would talk to people at s-off thread as they know a lot
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Okay but I'm in S-ON...
And Do SuperCID may void the warranty ?
Did your phone come with that CID or did you somehow get it after the flashing ?
Why not overwrite supercid by trying
Code:
fastboot oem writecid HTC_001
Note: this cid is from my unbranded device, You probably want to get a cid that better matches your region. But I dont think HTC is gonna care what your cid is as long as your bootloader says relocked, your warranty is gone anyways.

Not sure. S-off devices have super cid and they came like that.

I'll try after work with HTC_203 (FRA CID)
Thanks.
Anyway, if it's fail I'm still in warranty so I'm fine.
Thanks all.

Were you able to change the CID back to the stock CID using this method?
Thanks,
funk
I believe the devs looking for s-off are looking for a phone which has supercid but is s-on, why don't you report your phone in that thread maybe one of the devs is willing to trade phones with you?
Having Super CID will not void your warranty and has absolutely nothing to do with the HTC Dev unlock method. If you're sending it in to have it fixed and expect to get the same unit back I would definitely NOT try writing a new CID over it. Apparently you just got one of the rare Super CID units that get shipped out here and there. It's a good thing not a bad thing.

+1 Willieumm! Sometimes we get lucky and score big!
My HOX is a very rare HOX ?
I haven't try to overwrite for now because I've have still my one x. I'm waiting for the first of July.
And if I send it to HTC do I have always the "rare s-on with supercid" ?
