what does 'properly unlocked' mean ?
I say you might have unlocked the bootloader, bit the phone still has SIM lock.

hmm, so you saying if i go back to the shop and get them to unlock properly, it might let me use the o2 sim???
is there anything i can do....having only a modest knowledge of these issues?
and in reply to properly...sorry i wasnt specific - i meant that when you put an o2 sim in and turn it on...it doesnt ask for a pin or code to unlock the phone??
Well did you buy it in a O2 shop? If yes, then there appears to be a problem with you handset. If you DIDN'T buy it in a O2 shop(which means any other,T-Mobile,3,etc.) Then you're out of luck because it it probably SIM locked to that carrier.
You should bring back the handset back to the shop and ask them to remove the SIM lock.
ok, so here we go...
Went to the shop and they say the phone is unlocked. When i put an o2 sim card in, it does not require a pin when the phone switches on.
It works with tmobile sim, orange, virgin just not o2....
so it is unlocked just wont take o2.....
any ideas why?
its originally a tmobile wildfire - spoken to tmobile and they say they have completly unlocked.....

do you have any other o2 sim to test it ?
you should also go and change your sim, might be rly the SIM problem ...here changing sim costs 10 bucks, i hope its free in your case.
im afraid im a step ahead - all o2 sims dont work - i had a brand new 3g sim sent out by o2 and have tried a pay as you go sim on o2 - still wont work with any o2 sim....
any ideas?

a ok, i didnt read that one... lets try to keep this on one thread. why dont you try flashing stock rom again... i mean its worth a shot... i guess you dont use any custom roms atm ? or even try flashin any custom rom, just to try it ... if it doesn't work then, well, we will see it's a very strange problem.
did you try connecting with 2g, and not 3g...
or maybe changing setting in *#*#3646#*#* then phone information, then set preffered network type... and try changing those also ... First try this, and if it doesnt help then try what i wrote above.
ok,well - had a read of your suggestion and only a slight problem with it...i am a real beginner when it comes to this so apologies but rom flash???
Also looked at the *#*# suggestion...unsure how to do that - did try typing that into the keypad on the phone part but it didn't do anything..
apologies im not up to speed..any way to simplify for me?
oh, and also someone has suggested going into the bootloader so i took out the sim and battery, put it all back in and held down volume and power. at the bootloader menu, i selected simlock. when i pressed it the following was displayed..
fat 32 init ok
open mccmnc file fail
open cid file fail
process done, reboot?
does this help explain anything??

i guess you didnt unlock via xtc clip... you should write the code that i told u on dialer pad, it should immediately open a meny, i will make photos when i come home as a more detailed guide k ?
ok, just to save you some time if you dont need to spend it - the phone was unlocked at a local shop - no idea how they did it - although im guessing badly...
i typed that code in - when i enter the final * the code just disappears and it does nothing. I did enter the code without the last * and it said mmi running but then said incorrect mmi...

thanks - tried that and got into the phone menu. The current preferred choice is WCDMA - there are other options but nothing to suggest that an o2 sim should be blocked....

ok so i been browsing the net for sim unlock tutorials and so on.. and these tut's show me that when a sim card is inserted the phone asks for a Sim network unlock code? the thing is i dont get that option.. my phone boots fine i can download browuse go on facebook flash my rom(which i already did)
but everytime i call out that lady speaks!
i have a SE xperia arc LT15I can anyone help me please?
You posted a link to the unlocking process of the bootloader which has nothing to do with a simlock...as i had some problems with a simlock message appering after installing FreeXperia on mit Xperia Pro i searched the Forums this is something lowlevel and you can't do anything about it aside from get an unlock code when you really have simlock...but since you can actually make a phone call and get a message from your provider i think you should contact them
Bootloader unlocking and SIM unlocking are two separate things.
If you phone was SIM/network unlocked, it is ONCE and PERMANENT. It will not relock.
Contact your carrier.
ok im not going to start other thread now im getting this error
"Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"
i tried other sim cards too. but i read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252019 at post #2
2. Write a Working TA backup from another phone (same model)
3. Restore Security Units.
Thats all, now your phone should boot well but is 90% possible that you dont get Signal so for fix that we need to unlocking.
If this last thing is needed you can refer to this thread:

but the link he posted says "Invalid thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator" this is what happened my sony arc was bricked then i unbricked it then started to see the "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network" error thanks.
here is also a screenshot of my service info..

Hi all
I recently came to the end of my contract, and decided that I was quite happy with my Desire HD, I would switch to PAYG
So I got a code from Orange to unlock the handset.
I put my new SIM in, and it came up with "SIM Network Unlock PIN" and a text input box, plus buttons for Unlock and Dismiss.
I enter my unlock code, and it says "Network unlock successful"
As I understand it, at this point it should reboot and reflash the radio. It does not do this, it simply goes to the home screen and I have no reception. It is just as if I have clicked Dismiss.
Please can someone advise how I can get this to work?
I'm running IceColdSandwich.
Thanks.
Did you put the sim cover back on? Its needed for the antenna

Yes, I did. As I said, it hasn't even done the bit where it reboots to flash the radio.
What if you reboot manually? You could always head back to the carrier and let them know the code didn't work.
You could also achieve soff,in doing so also sum unlocks

If I reboot manually it just boots as normal and shows the "SIM Network Unlock PIN" screen again.
I think the problem is the handset rather than the code, as when I enter the code it does say that it has been accepted - it just then doesn't reboot.
Thanks, I'll try the SOFF method.
I can't get ADB to connect from my work PC, so I'll try this when I get home later.
Thanks.
First post, need some helpful advice
I have a HTC One V on Virgin UK networkwhich I need to unlock. I purchased an unlock code online as after researching, came to the conclusion it (as of yet) cannot be done for free.
Anyways, I inserted the new sim card and turned on the phone but I dont get any pop up message asking me to enter the code. All guides I've read say that this should automatically pop up. I done a hard reset but that didn't help. The SIM is definately detected as I can look at the details in settings menu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are you on a custom rom? I think you have to be on stock to sim unlock a phone with a unlock code.

Not using a custom rom, phone is just out of the box
If I boot the phone without sim and then insert the new sim I get the following message;
"Unable to detect your SIM card. Please make sure that your SIM card is properly inserted and restart your phone."
After reading about it,
Does the phone accept your non-Virgin SIM? Do you get network access?
Not every phone is carrier locked.
You may also want to try disabling the HTC Fast Boot option. It does make start up, slower but it forces the it to actually shut everything down. It should be: Settings -> Power -> Fast Boot
Option A) Shut the phone down, after disabling 'Fast Boot', make sure the non-Virgin SIM is inserted, turn the phone on.
Option B) Hard Reset/Factory Recovery with the other carriers SIM inserted.
Hello XDA community,
I have Verizon's LG-VS870 4G LTE smartphone [http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-VS870-lucid2]. Now I'm in Canada and would like to use this phone instead of buying a new one, therefore I was told to unlock it. Apparently it's legal to unlock your phone now: http://lifehacker.com/you-can-now-legally-unlock-your-cellphone-heres-what-i-1614787933
So I searched online for how to unlock my LG phone. Found many results that tell me the first half of the steps. Found a couple of threads here too about it, but no concrete solution. Some people said this phone isn't going to work on GSM after you unlock it, but I found this patch thread here that says otherwise: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394689
I have the original Verizon SIM card with me too.
Won't ya kindly help a bloke out and tell him how to get the unlock code for his LG-VS870?
So, I tried to root it and was successful with Framaroot. Then Installed Clockwork. Then attempted to install the above mentioned patch using Clockworks recovery mode, but it didn't appear to fix the GSM lock. Whenever I insert my SIM card I get an icon that looks like a SIM card with a question mark inside a red circle at the top right. And when I try to dial a number, any number, I get some chineese lady saying something.
Any idea what does that mean?
I just unbricked/unrooted my phone back to 711A firmware and 4.1.2 Android as it was all the way from the beginning.
Here's the vocaroo recording of the chinese lady(WARNING! TURN DOWN YOUR VOLUME FIRST!): vocaroo.com/i/s0C5ObqOLK6Y
