There is NO reason to use ROM Manager, use recovery.

Yh i always do but was just asking coz alot of devs put it in with thier roms. Thanks
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium

using recovery is way better, it's easy to mess your phone with rom manager when you dont know how to use it

Cool. Personaly i like 4EXT Recovery and you can partition your sdcard with it to, you can get it in market or google 4EXT for thier own page. Some devs recommend that you use a recovery that is best with thier roms. So please read before flashing a rom and read other forums about it for more info. And you get into recovery by powering off your phone then you hold the volume down button + power button. Dont forget research n read

Im no expert but it didn't remove my recovery
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
No, it doesn't remove your recovery.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
I didn't lose my recovery when s-offing but also heared that it could happen. Although I believe that since 1.8 AlphaRev installed a new version of CWM any way.
But if you can't get the sdk to work I would think twice about S-offing.

No no no that's temp recovery, scratch is telling you to update your phones recovery. The recovery you go to when holding power and volume down.
regards,slymobi
Rom manager only gives you a temporary recovery, your main recovery will probably be an older version with the offmode charging bug.

Download this and move it to the root of your SD card (not in any folders) then power off, press volume down and power button to enter hboot and wait for it to load, press up to flash the recovery image then reboot, either delete the zip after or rename it to something else otherwise everytime you enter hboot it'll try to flash it.

Thank you sir for the above instructions.. I will try it later after i get off from work or latest tomorrow. Have a nice day..

You don't flash it in recovery, just make sure its called PC49IMG.zip and reboot into hboot.

Assuming ur s-off then download the rom u want, make sure u have the correct hboot for it and sdcard is partitioned to suit the rom then boot into recovery do a full wipe then install zip from sdcard. I had to do it this way many times coz my laptop only connects to my phone when it can be bothered lol

Is it there? Lol u tell me. U can partition ur sdcard with 4ext recovery (if ur s-off) or use gparted. Most roms will require u to have exr3/4 partition bout 1-1.5gb.

[Q] Installing ROMs on DZ

Ok, so as you may have guessed I'm quite new to the forum.
I just have a question about the mimicry 1.3.1 ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
When I select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" in ROM manager it asks me to confirm my device, and shows up with one option: HTC G2
Is it safe to install it even if I'm using a Desire Z?
My phone is rooted.
Thanks in advance!

Well not exactly, the 3G radio band differs between the two devices, so if you're on T-Mobile, then a Desire-Z won't give you 3G speeds. (but both can have a Desire-Z hboot if you need the room for HTC Sense, but either is fine for mimicry).
and another vote for 4EXT Recovery here as well.
Ditto on 4ext; you can pick up the installer/updater at 4ext.net or purchase the pro version in the market to get added features and support the dev.

nandroid backup first...
go here, pick a few, try them out. make sure you read the op and have correct hboot / sd-ext partition if required.
ask yourself what YOU want out of your rom, not what others tell you works for them...
