In response to the numerous repeated questions, here is an attempt to consolidate all info. Please lemme know of errors and omissions. This has been brought to you by Search™, something that you should have been doing!
[FAQs]
1) Where to get the ROM from?
AOKP ROM:http://forum.aokp.co/page/releases
Unofficial CM9 ROM (courtesy Aerovan): http://goo.im/devs/aeroevan/cm9/
2) Where is the Gapps? Is the gapps same for all? Oh noes, no gapps!?
Yes gapps is same for all devices. It is at the bottom of the list of all devices. Usually gapps is the same flashable zip as it was for the last build. So, you should be okay to flash the old stuff.
3) How to flash the ROM?
Put the aokp_vivow-build-xx.zip (for aokp) or update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-vivow-UNOFFICIAL-2012-xx-xx-signed.zip (for CM9 via aerovan) and gapps zip in root of SD card.
Boot into Recovery by turning off phone, then holding Power+Vol down. Then choose recovery in Bootloader (wait for sometime while it scans for some zips like PG32IMG etc. and then choose recovery)
Nandroid (optional but recommended).
Wipe the big 3 (Data, cache and Dalvik).
Flash the ROM.
Flash the gapps.
Reboot.
4) Oh. M. G! Camera doesn't work!
Read THIS. >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24768608&postcount=774
5) Oh. M. G! MMS is not working!
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22279322&postcount=167
Or this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24948522&highlight=mms+verizon#post24948522

Or this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23451265&postcount=517
6) Oh. M. G! Bluetooth is NOT working!!
Well, many say it is working. But some say it is not working. Apparently it is fixed in the newer builds and I don't think there is a fix posted on the AOKP thread. Sorry, no donut for you!
7) Oh. M. G! Music player is missing! This is outrageous/a monstrosity!
Yes, you are absolutely right! There is no music player in AOKP. [is there one in CM9?]. Take your blankey, go to a corner and weep! Else, deal with it and download your favorite music player from Google Play. (I mostly delete the built in music player unless it is Google Play Music. So, it saves me time this way. I hope you feel that way too!)
8) Oh. M. G! My phone is possessed! All characters on the launcher are distorted!
Calm down, C bear! Just relaunch the launcher (aka force stop and restart OR if you launcher supports it (most 3rd party launchers do), restart launcher! )
9) Oh. M. G! My GPS is acting weird/is erratic/taking a long time to lock!
Try the fix over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447598 Tested to work on AOKP ICS by forum members. Probably works with CM9, if you have the same problem on CM9 as well.
10) Oh. M. G! While roaming, my 3G is SLOOO-..

[KERNELS]
1) Where can I haz more KERNALS/Aero's v9 Kernall/Tiamat's Kernalll!!!?
First of all, it is "kernel", not kernal! Secondly, google that, dawg... [Read: Use discretion and Google. I am not responsible for screw ups.]
Aero Kernel: http://goo.im/devs/aeroevan/kernel/vivow
Download the kernel (aeroevan_ICSv9-bfs.zip), obviously, and flash in recovery after an optional nandroid. Personally I like this kernel as it cures the buzzing sound I get when I make a call!
Tiamat's kernel: http://tiamat-dev.com/vivow/
I haven't used this kernel and I don't know if it is up to date. Btw, apparently Tiamat's kernel can underclock to 128 MHz
2) What to DO with this new Kernalz!?
!!!!!! CAUTION: UNDERVOLTING AND OVERCLOCKING MAY EFF UP YOUR PHONE !!!!!! Go to ROM Control>Performance. You can tweak the CPU governor and overclock. This is NOT an app, it is a setting. You can also install IncrediControl (link below) to undervolt!
Pro Tip: Learn how to set stuff and tweak stuff before you actually attempt it. Google it. NEVER set things to set at boot while testing. After sufficient testing, if things work fine, THEN make it set at boot.
3) Can you google Info for OCing for me?
Sigh! Okay...
>> Overclocking 101
>> Android CPU governors explained
>> Undervolting Explained
Caution: Use the above links as reference. They are not tailored for this particular device. Any specifics as to acceptable limits of overclocking/undervolting need not apply to the Dinc2. I am not responsible for screw ups, and neither are the OPs of those threads/wikis.
4) What app can I use to OC/undervolt?
You can use ROM controls to under/overclock. Most apps, however, fail to recognize our kernel's undervolting capabilities. Use an app tailor made for this device, aka IncrediControl (kudos to a fellow xda'er Chad0989, dunno if he uses the same alias here). This app can also OC. Use only one app/setting on your phone to OC/undervolt. DON'T set OC in both ROM controls and Incredicontrol. It is wasteful, potentially dangerous, but I don't know what will happen to the phone. :/

No problem guys! Obviously I can't sticky this thread myself and therefore must wait for a moderator to come in and do it... And I am sure it will happen, as colossus suggested this very thing a few days back in the AOKP thread...
Change of plan guys..
You have a new FSM hitting town so ask him/her when they get here about the sticky.
See you all around.

I thought it would be grate to have a spot, were we clould ask questions to Clark44 about his Rom FreeGS3 v0.0.7 7-27-12
I am a realy Big fan since version 7 the Installer shows so much spunk!!!
I realy think keeping everything for Clark44 in one spot will help him in further creation of his rom.
After spending time with this rom all i can think about is how do I donate to keep it going?
I can not wait for the themes to come out for this Rom.
***First question Clark. May I use Setcpu and Ram Manager with your Rom?

I'd say don't use CPU apps. He has some tweaks in there and never mentioned anything about outside apps.

goo rom manager question
I do not want to loose the abilty to save recoveries to my extSdCard. So I am afraid to switch from CWM version that i am using.
The question is, can we use the Goo Manager to download the zip then use the CWM to flash it ?
I am just not sure if it packed and repack the same way.
Youtube isn't working when I'm on the go, using my 3g. But it works fine when I connect to Wifi. Maybe I did something wrong or maybe it just my phone?
Clark44 never sleeps...he is a rom machine
I noticed on the messaging app that the vibration when silent option was absent with .7. I don't need my phone vibrating when I get texts with sound on so I was wondering if there was a way to get that back. Thanks.

No S-Voice options please
The installer is very cool. This is now my goto build for installing modems, I can install them at install then update PRL with one build.
I can't live with S-voice though, it just can't call the people I want and... don't get me started on it.
I hoped choosing not to install the removed Samsung apps would include S-voice but I still get it when I make a BT voice dial.
Is there any way to have the option to not have S-voice and use Google voice instead?
Thanks!
Thanks for posting this thread! I can't post in the dev forums yet (too new) so I had no way to get into the conversation.
I've got two questions.
1. Is anyone using JuiceDefender with this Rom? I'm used to it from my Samsung Galaxy Epic, but I wasn't sure if it's needed on this ROM. I like some of the features (Location aware Wifi, etc) but maybe not if it's sacrificing battery.
2. (For Clark) On version .8, is there any way to build in some of the color/theme options from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28676439 ? I'm not a big fan of green, so I would love to change the colors of the battery and the 15 toggles...
Thanks!

Well, I think it depends on how you use your phone. For me at least, JuiceDefender has helped out TREMENDOUSLY. I live in an area with bad reception and I'm constantly going in and out of roaming. Having all my data turned off while I'm not using the phone really helps boost my battery life (and not having to do so manually is worth the $5 in my opinion).
Without JD I'm at about 10-15% when I get home from work (10 hr work days). With JD I'm at about 30% when I get home.
I guess everyone's mileage may vary, but if you've already bought JD you might as well try and see if it helps your battery life.
side note: I also love the night tint in JD
I've actually got a couple of questions with this ROM.
First, though, I have to say this is a phenomenal ROM. I initially flashed it solely as a stop-gap while waiting for CM10 to come out for my Sprint GSIII, but it quickly has become my daily driver.
So with the installer on the 0.0.7 version, there are multiple radios. Is there any advantage in flashing one of those, or just leaving it be? Also I really like the CRT animations and beats audio, but it wasn't there in the 0.0.7 version, so I just went with 0.0.6. Is there a way to get it on the 0.0.7 version or have those features been disabled? I went off the video review on youtube, linked but for some reason, on my version, little to no features were on mine compared to the review video. Is there a way to enable them on the newest version? Thanks.
It got lost on the main thread, but awesome beats will be back in .8 (he forgot to put it in .7) and crt was broken by Samsung

Nice thread you guys have going on here
As for themeing. Let me explain how im going to have this system setup at latest by v0.0.9.
I've done some research and finally found an app that will do the following:
1. Notify when update is available
2. Allow user to download themes, bootanimations, apps, flashables, all within the app and all supplied by me.
3. Allow the user to read the changelog of upcoming buids on the go.
The link to this app is here
Now i already started migrating the boot animation option i already finished in Aroma installer into this app and that should be done very soon. Themers will also be able to send me whatever they make and i can make it an option in the app!
This will benefit us in the following:
1. Aroma installer stays and installs kernels, modems, and mods
2. ROM size doesn't go up to 2GB when i add in all the themes ect. (Size will always be around 860)
3. Users can change their theme and UI mods on the go without having to reinstall the ROM.
I'm trying to make customization available without having to reinstall the entire ROM. This will give us the best of both worlds.
I'm working on this as we speak so I might dissapear from XDA for a little bit while i stay on my train of thought But in spite of everything...this is going to get a whole lot better.

No on CRT, see back a page or two with a draft of the mods in next release.
The radio's are the different modems you can choose, there have been three releases (updates) and the original that came with the phone. That is what the radios are.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages in flashing a different modem to the phone? It seems to be a consensus that LF9 gives better signal, but I'm afraid for the drawbacks.
Downloading .8 now. Very excited.
Clark, I have a small request for .9.
Any chance you can add on my favorite bootanimation from my Samsung Epic days?
It's the third link found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033274
(I'm also a big fan of the blue shutdown animation, but that's not nearly as big of a priority.)
Thanks!

Potluck JB is a CM10 build for the T-Mobile and Telus variants of the Hercules. Finally - kernel independence is buttery smooth and rock solid.
ALL thanks go to the CM team, TeamChopsticks, theDerekJay, and everyone cooperatively involved in the open-source movement. Potluck is just a stock build of the CM10 repo at this point, with a few cherry picks and other things added to achieve a nearly complete Jellybean ROM for the Hercules, hence the name.
Standard warning and disclaimer:
I take no responsibility if you use this ROM. It is experimental and appears to be solid, but use it at your own risk. Also be aware that this is a little side project I got into while I had some time off, and while I like the idea of compiling my own ROMware, I may not always have time to stay on top of it and/or continue to work on it. This is something to hold you over if you are drooling for a Jellybean release at this point. I will do my best to address bugs that are reported, or at least look into them, but this ROM is supplied without support.

Thanks. Working just as advertised here. bdusmc, there's supposedly a new (old) camera app I think in that rookie thread that fixed the 'green screen'. I haven't tried it though.
Edit... here's the app. Looks like ICS camera. No green screen but still no camcorder. Still... good progress.

Hey, I was able to just install it like any other app - not sure if we are talking about the same app or not...
Also, you mentioned in the Rookie thread that there are only a couple of pic sizes in the stock app? I have 5 or 6 in mine, everything from VGA to 8MP... Can you double check yours?
Okay, to fix the UI Glitchy Animations, you need to change these files, in framework.jar, which you will have to baksmali, then re-smali. You can try with:
A) ICS Version' Certain Files.
B) From Another Phone With Exact CPU/GPU.
Files needed to be fixed:
smali\smali\android\os

SystemProperties
smali\smali\android\view

If you point out where the glitches are, I can fix the source images and recompile to save people the trouble of decompiling, recompiling, etc... there's a few things I want to add into the new build anyways, so let me know.
No the hardware is not properly set up in there. So the UI glitches the animations.

Oh, I see... I thought you were talking about stuff like this (the red jellybean/title) which I am having a hard time tracking down the source of... grrr. I'm starting to wonder if it is a generated vector graphic or something - has anyone got any clue of where this is so it can be fixed? I looked in the SystemUI images but still haven't found it.

Yeah, I just tried playing some YouTube and recorded videos and they don't perform very well... Probably a buffer issue methinks. Didn't see any greenscreen issues though on my end... strange. Rotation was good and didn't crash anything though, which is cool.
Yea....its weird....of will turn green with stripes....then if I touch the screen it will go away....then a second or two later it comes back

Congratulations on your own build. If you find any patches or whatever else that you think are significant, please forward them to me.

Any idea what issues Netflix is having? is it a video thing or a network/buffering thing?

When the camera crashes upon entering the app on EliteMod, nik3r's suggestion was to go into Manage App, click the camera app, force close if it's running, and then wipe data/cache and retry it. For me that worked under elitemod.
Far as the keyboard *shrug* you may be missing some keymap files if this was porting from a completely different device. ie: under /system/usr/keylayout should be some *.kl files with keymappings to the hardware keyboard, however I wouldn't the faintest on how to make it 'enabled' under the hood.
thanks on the keyboard, i copied the layouts, and will be testing soon. as for camera, the app ite=self doesn't crash, but the whole ROM hot reboots.. there is a major problem in the cam.
EDIT: i've replaced the Camera.apk and removed MiuiCamera.apk
let's see what happens

Yea was going to say, you may have to use a camera app that was designed to work with the Cyanogenmod kernel (or an offshoot of it for the Desire-Z), and not the one ported since that was specific to a different device.

well... it's actually ported from the DHD, so not much of a difference... but still: why is this happening?
EDIT: tested with the layouts, it didn't work, and the screen orientation was in portrait.
camera hot rebooted the phone too... PLEASE HELP!
https://github.com/alienmind-org/BlackICE why just not try to use sources? Better chance for fully working ROM, also probably you can ask developer if need any help.
I think the same, ICS on DZ is good, but not fast as Gingerbread. Sadly, tsubus haven't updated his ROM for long but CM nightlies are available.
unfortunately i can't build from source for 2 reasons:
1) my bandwidth can't handle that much downloads (maybe in the night... maybe)
2) i don't know how to build from source
so i should learn first, then check whether i can handle that much downloads, and maybe start building it.
EDIT: oh, and i don't have a linux/Mac OS environment. and a VM would be really hard since hardware vitualisation is off.

The keyboard issue can be fixed by following the method I've provided in my rom porting guide for orientation fix. Follow it.
thanks that was helpful, i didn't follow your guide because you didn't put CM7 in it. but thank for the keyboard fix.
the cam still isn't working though.

You may have read that thread, but you certainly didn't pay it any heed. As for trolling, well, I don't recall having replied to anything you've posted in months, though I could be wrong.
Ultimately I think that before you release something to the public you should have a good understanding of what you're releasing. Why not try some test builds locally and ask people for help in the many development help threads on xda or chatrooms on freenode first?

about the trolling, yes, you did reply to some posts before.
as for the test builds, i've been working on this for 2 weeks now, and just one user offered the help (and he was REALLY helpful). so i thought i should release it as a test build to possibly attract more people to help me.

Find any combination you like, scale and project apps, widgets and system components!
PER-APP-COLOR, Paranoidandroids newest invention. Define apps in your regular hybrid panel (same that allows you to scale apps individually and choose their interface). See your phone fade into the color definition of your current app, press home or go elsewhere and it fades back. Create as many combinations you like, you can even dabble with opacity. This feature is made possible by our hybrid engine, which is unique to this rom.
To be honest, this is not tablet mode at all, it has nothing to do with silly build.prop hacks. This is the first and only Android rom to feature true Hybrid mode. This rom lets you scale and project every app, every widget, even systemcomponents individually. Remember, android is modular, everything is an app: Lockscreen, navigationbar, dialogs, popups, keyboards, widgets, and your regular apps of course. Apps have the capability to switch into various designs or layouts according to the device they run on. This can result in a complete new experience as many apps will transform to the better.
Now for every element that you like chose a mode (PhoneUI, Phablet/Nexus-7UI, TabletUI) and/or a size. You are 100% independent of the system DPI which runs nicely in whatever value it has been assigned to. You do not need to boot your phone into a certain DPI. Neither will most of the changes you apply require a reboot. You will not suffer from the myriads of troubles which normally haunt you under build.prop tablet mode. Your market, phone, etc. will all work, apps won't shrink on you unless you shrink them yourself. This project will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the feel of your phone.

If you have an issue and you want to call our attention, here's what you do:
1. Try everything you can, find solutions for yourself. Wipe caches, revert all your settings you have made, go back to your stock Kernel, factory reset if you have to or reflash the rom. Assume that the issue is on your side and try your best to isolate it.
2. Search this thread and Cyanogenmods aswell (its our base) for possible reoccurences of your issue and hopefully solutions that may have come up.
3. If you think the issue is important enough that we should cease our work and look into it, post your issue, BUT ...
... stay friendly, do not demand anything, do not threaten
... explain your issue as precise as you can, name the exact apps and conditions that cause trouble, help us to replicate the issue right away. If we can't there's no way we can fix it and your post will simply clutter the thread
... collect evidence, keep in mind this is a developer thread so even if you are not one, do us the favor and research how to record logcat. logcat is the single most important help you can give us to resolve your issue.

If this is actually source compiled, that is the difference. The other one says so in the OP but further along he states it is a port and not compiled. As such, the threads are both in the wrong sections. This is original (you made it), his is not (he copied/pasted it).

Ahhh well fair enough then.
Also, Im going to include a link to my ATT thread that may answer any questions some of you may have.
The OP is properly Paranoid formatted. So I am behind this
If I may make a suggestion though? It was quite the scroll with those pictures. It would be nice if you would hide the some of them with the

For example,

The reason the thread is closed is not because the developer is angry at all or anything like that. He no longer has the time to support the ROMs at the moment, I was suspicious to to the ROM's disappearance but was alerted he posted the reason he closed development on his G+. This ROM was taken offline when the new one came up, that's all. Thanks OP.

was that the way my post looked like? i apologize. i am well aware of the reason why the developer closed his thread, however, that shouldn't stop the OP from posting without permission

Yeah out of respect, I agree. Though Mike and Annex in the past have not cared for others posting their work, maybe that's why the OP didn't ask, and out of high demand.
But hey, I wonder if Annex's KitKat theme will work on here..? It debuted on Illusions 4.3..

Wowowow i did ask, i contacted Ramsay and did not get a response and did not even know what happened until i check my google and facebook, however, and i will say i did NOT get explicit permission, Ramsey has NEVER cared and i do NOT expect him to get back to me any time soon because of whats going on. I am 99.99% sure he will not care that im, if anything, supporting his awesome rom.
PS- now i want to try that kit kat theme xD
They were just looking out for the dev is all. All too often people will post someone else's work without asking first, sometimes they give proper cred, sometimes they don't. But the decent thing regardless of your intentions is to ask first, which you said you did. And thank you for clarifying that btw.
Tbh, after reading the OP, I thought the exact same thing. Always do when it's not mentioned. You obviously appreciate the devs work on this Rom, and saranhai was simply looking out for them and their interests. I don't believe it was meant as accusatory at all.
Anyway, just thought I'd offer up a bit of explanation. Thanks for posting this, I know a lot of people are going to be very pleased to see it here!

Yea i get it i jut dont understand 2 things..
1. All his work EVERYTHING is up for download, so couldnt i just modify a few settings, add some wall papers, maybe some of your Modem tweaks as default and this would qualify at least as S3 Development.
2. So because the thanks was in regular text size and not colored that doesnt count as thanks !? The hassle i went through to put this togther and the 2-4 days waiting for a reply for Ramsay...(i put thanks to him and his team on the top and bottom of the post when i FIRST posted it... i even posted PICTURES OF THE GUYS AT THE BOTTOM).
Im stressed, Im active duty military and tried to something nice for these people on my time off. -.-"

By all means were just looking out for the devs and you, you violate any rules on XDA and you can get banned easily we wouldn't want that would we? I and I'm sure the rest of the d2tmoers here are glad someone had this ROM still and uploaded it for us. Thank you, I'm using it currently.
As the Kit Kat theme is concerned, its Friday and I have nothing else better to do I'll rip it from 4.3 and let everyone know.

Wow
Wow this ROM is amazing! I've tried cm10, liquidsmooth, and pacman countless times, but this rom is perfection. Thanks for the link, I wanted to try 4.3 illusion but it seems extremely buggy. I too have not found any bugs on this rom yet (finger crossed), not bad for a discontinued beta. I wish they would of continued working on 4.3

Trust me, your putting this up is very much appreciated! And don't let any of us add to your stress level, try to remember that in these posts, tone is near impossible to convey perfectly. If someone is going to verbally attack though, you'll know it. There are lots of times our posts are short and pointed, but it's simply because we already do a lot here and just want to make the point and move on. I promise you that nothing said here so far was meant personally or negatively at all. To me, xda can be a great place to escape real life for a while and still be constructive with your time. I hope this proves true for you as well!
As to your questions:
1. It's kind of hard to say tbh. Technically it's probably not considered development if you just make some minor changes/improvements, tweaks, and do a bit of theming to an existing, previously developed Rom. I think it would probably have to be determined by the amount of modification you do. Maybe someone else can chime in on this one, or you could always ask a mod what they think.
I've seen some releases in the development section that definitely would not meet the criteria, so once you implement some changes and make it yours, so to speak, I wouldn't see it as any kind of problem to move it there. Until then it will probably be viewed as more of a support thread though.
2. The part that was in question wasn't with how you thanked and gave credit to the dev. You did perfectly fine on that. The thing we didn't see addressed was whether or not you sought permission from them before posting. Knowing now that you did, it's not an issue at all. But there have been plenty of times where someone would post someone else's work, and give proper credit to the dev, but never asked if they were ok with them posting it. Even though their intentions in some instances were pure, it often would end up with the dev getting pissed and the thread being closed or removed.
Speaking for myself, whenever I see something familiar posted by someone other than the original developers, I automatically wonder if they got permission to do so. And if it's not stated, I or someone else will ask. It's not to be mean or to cause problems, but more to prevent them, and as stated, to look out for the devs interests. None of us wants to see them leave due to lack of respect or common courtesy.
Getting too long so I'll leave it at that! Thanks again!
This all being said, I've been working on speeding up and prolonging battery life. It's already smooth, so I'm just going to squeeze as much battery life out of it as possible. I will either release files you can push, or a .zip depending on everyone's preferences. That being said, battery life was nice, 4hrs, 30 minutes off my first charge cycle of on screen time. I'll upload the pic soon.
1. First line of work is the build.prop
2. Second line of work is within the init.d
3. Third line of work is going to be replacing the kernel with either KT747/Lean
4. Fourth line of work is going to be recommending/including a good inverted GAPPS package

That's pretty cool maybe some can do that but not all phones react the same way to overclocking and under volting.

Yes but several of us wanted it since the newer Android 4.3 version isn't as stable....yet.

Love this ROM! Haven't found one glitch yet and battery life is great! I'm keeping this as my new daily. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, a zip would be great. I have pretty decent battery life already, but any way to squeeze out more would be great. I also use the kt747 kernel, but when I attempted to use the TK mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207286 in conjunction with it, it completely messes up when I try to apply their build.prop mod.

Yeah, TKMod works great! We discovered a couple months ago with the latest release that their modified build.prop was not working for us for some reason. Go ahead and install TKMod but keep your current build.prop. And I use the sysctrl & modified Crossbreader too.
EDIT: from RErick in the above mentioned link-
"Uninstall the build.prop. its not that important. If it doesn't work it doesn't need to be there. Obviously we would Luke for everyone to have it, but its not our pride and joy. If the sysctrl and cross breeder works that's 95 percent of the good stuff"
Works for me!

Ohh okay nice, but can I ask how did you get init.d installed for the sysctrl mod? Should I use Uni-Init? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933849
