[Q] Scratched One X - HTC One X

Hi,
After using the one x for a while, and seeing a few scratch test on this device i would have thought it would be able to take a bit of scratches as sometimes i put my keys in the same pocket as my phone.
After a while there was a scratch
Anyway i can get rid of it? Its actually hard to notice when the screen is turned on but.

a mobile screen surviving in the pocket with something as rough as keys is an urban legend
always protect your expensive device...

If it is the one I'm thinking of that was hardly a proper test. The attempts to scratch were nothing like what the screen would receive in a pocket pressed up against some keys

I agree, lots of dropping and light tapping. But at no time did she hold a key firmly and drag it over the screen - for a very good reason!
Rob

LOL at anyone who puts their keys in the same pocket as their phone, no matter how indestructible the phone claims to be.
I mean...really?

Mine is scracthed on the screen and I don't understand why. I'm always very, very careful.
It fell off my hands before I noticed the scratch, but it's almost impossible that it was due to the fall.

I wish people would stop doing those ridiculous screen test videos tbh. They are never a true representation of actual life.
A better test would be to put a bunch of keys on the screen then drop a paperback book on them, see how that fares.

Google Magic LCD something, then there are home recipies you can follow that have been proven to work.
Cheers

As soon as I unboxed mine, applying the screen protector was the first thing I did.
No way would I put it in my pocket with keys!

So lesson learned for me too. I was also victim of theory that the screens are almost indestructible but today i was closely looking in the reflection of my screen and scratches there are! They are very small and visible only when i looking very closely but it kinda bugging me inside. I will look on some of the screen protections before my OneX screen receive some more.

Corning themselves stated that the Nexus doesnt use gorilla glass but that doesnt mean they havent used some other type thats just as strong and durable. The guy did mention in his twitter that he managed to scratch it with a google mug a bit later so I dont know how he managed to do that maybe he threw the mug at the phone coz it wouldnt go get him another coffee haha.
Im not even sure if that type of key test would scratch normal glass if it was only done for a few seconds. I guess I could take my keys to a piece of glass on the shed and see what happens lol.

Just an ordinary key (especially a well used one) are quite round and soft in the edges so no, it should be hard to scratch regular glass even, an unpainted ceramic coffey mug bottom on the other hand is allmost like a fine sandpaper so it would cause more scratching

ye, dragging a coffee mug across the screen would be a much better test, I've often thought the same about the use of keys in scratch test videos.
Keys is a good test imo, what else is a common contact to the phone? throw it in your pocket, what is usualy in there? i know i keep mine in my rear pocket all by itself, but still keys could become a common contct with a phone. When I empty my pockets I tend to stack them all in a pile, wallet usually end up ontop of the phone, but occasionaly I realize my phone on my desk with keys on top. Yes,I can see people setting their coffee on top of their phone like a coaster, caeless, but i'm sure it happens when you are busy at work.

I don't really think anyone would really ever put a mug on their phone in day to day use, but there are plenty of things worse than keys that your phone can get in contact with that would be more abrasive than a key, the mug example would be a good method to test the screens resilience to such things.

I personally don'g use mugs but I am frequently foudn with both the phone and soda bottle, etc in the same hand
well mine scratched whilst i was cleaning the screen with a microfibre cloth well pi""ed of. Should have waited for screen protector(s) :/
from what i find these days most phones can handle "physical abuse" just fine.... it's just when it comes to fluids, beware
I carried my nexus s around without any protection for 9 months and it still looks mint. I expect the same from this phone.

Don't!
I like you thought the same after having the SGS and mine already has 2 scratches.
Rub a few grains of sand or salt on any display and report back.
I actually drove by the Corning main campus last weekend in New York. I was close to stopping by and questioning why they wouldn't make every effort possible to get their product into the Nexus.
Of course I realized they wouldn't answer my questions or be helpful...but still.
I'm not worried, anyway. I'm sure whatever manufacturer Samsung got for this phone did a fine job.
BULL****! My screen is scratched after 3 days of using it in the house and I have OCD with my phone! the worst thing i did was put it in my pocket and take it out.
I have had a galaxy S2 for over 6 month and not had a scratch :/ this one is quite deep

To screen protect or not screen protect...

To all my fellow HTC One X owners - are you using protection? LOL
I'm simply asking because I was wondering if anyone is going commando with the phone, and whether the screen has shown any scratches as a result? I know the phone is supposed to be sporting the all-powerful Gorilla Glass 2, but I don't trust it yet and so have put a screen protector on the front. This dulls the lustre of the screen a bit, so I am thinking of removing it.
How about yourselves? What has been your own personal choice?
you never know.
I got mine protected.
i saw a post about someone having scratches already. Then I viewed the crazy video of the gorilla glass2 scratch test performed by one *FINE* lady here in xda.
I decided to protect it then. the screen protector doesn't protect the whole screen though.
Edit: have to rephrase she's here now.

Heres the crazy lady - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590172
I used to have a screen protector on my sg2, then took it off after a year and it looked like a brand new phone, felt like i was missing out on the beautiful screen. I was going to get one for the one x, but I have extra insurance included in my phone contract against any kind of damage, accidental etc.. and it seems like it'll be hard to completely cover the glass, especially on the sides as I've seen on the forums that some people have had issues getting it to stay stuck.
I treat most things like they are a new born child when I first get them, then after a while, you get comfortable. I don't want to have this sexy looking phone and cover it with screen protectors and back covers - even if it did cost a lot of money.
one crazy lady here!
nah i'm not going to bother with a screen protector after my test i think....only thing i'm really concerned about is that camera lense. Would like to know what it's made of and how i can protect it (without sticking gel cases on the back etc)
It's funny that on these scratch tests the device never has any issues.
But reading on the forum some people do have scratches etc. just because they have keys and phone in same pocket... Makes you wonder, what kinda test did the scratchtester do with there HaitchTC One eX (Hahaha you crazy british people).

My right pocket on any kind of clothing is my dedicated phone pocket. I put nothing in there with it aside from my smooth leather wallet. If you put keys in there and other sharp stuff, then it's your own fault in my opinion! You don't throw your house keys at your television or computer do you? So why throw them on your pride and joy mobile phone! hehee

I'm not balming you. But same **** happend to me with HD2, DHD, SGS2.
Gorilla Glass my ass...
After owning the phone for like 6 months, check the screen again, can garantee you, you will find some small sand scratches.
You'll probably end up with scratches due to sand particles that somehow end up in your pockets. Basically metal won't scratch the glass, but sand will. I won't bother with a screen protector, but I do expect to see at least a couple of microscratches at some point in the near future.
To be honest the first one is the only one that hurts. After that it's bearable.

I dunno - technology these days. Screens can stand up to an assault from nail scissors. What's it going to be for Gorilla Glass 3? Attacks from ninjas armed with samurai swords?
I did
I got the original HTC screen films from an O2 shop yesterday. Went on easily and did not degrade the image quality or the touch sensitivity.

I have the HTC branded screen protector on my Desire. It's been on since the day I got the phone around 18mths ago along with a case-mate Tough. The protector still looks like new, with one small scratch on it.
Having said that, I'm still on the fence about the One X screen. I'll probably go for another case-mate Tough as it has been worth the money on the Desire for the protection.

I didn't like the official screen protectors, stuck onto the piece of card with some adhesive, by the time i had pulled them off (as carefully as possible) it left a dint in my screen protectors, both ended up with a horrible air bubble where the adhesive had warped the film.
I might just get a nice case and stick with it.
I'm just waiting to see whether i'm keeping it or selling it, i've been appalled by the battery life so far, but the screen seems to be the culprit, at minimum brightness, the screen eats 1% of the battery for ever 5-10 minutes it is on, hopeless when you're playing games, anyone know any solution to this apart from never playing games on the phone?
Wat screen protectors do you guys use?
I have the official HTC ones on mine. but they dont wrap around the edges. Which causes it to sort of "meh". The problem is that the edges of (my) official screen protector dont connect with the screen.
So I am wondering if there are any other brands that do not have this problem and I can order on ebay/amazon or some other website (I live in belgium )

Easy way to fix screen scratches?

I am not talking about deep scratches. I had a scratch on my screen, even that I am extremely careful with my phone, I never place it with keys or any other objects. Still I got a long scratch on the screen which I can't see except in a certain angle with sunlight. I can't see it at night even when all the lights of the room are on. The scratch isn't deep and it's very tiny as hair, I can't even feel it while rubbing my fingers over it. I was wondering is there an easy way to fix this tiny scratch, a way which doesn't involve sanding or anything dangerous which may make my screen only worst if not done perfectly?
I have the exact same scratch. Because of it, could not return my phone.
It's wired though. I am extremely careful with my phone.
I would really appreciate it if people would share with us their experience in fixing screen scratches.
Sometimes if its very very light, then a screen protector may hide it, probably could try something similar to a Zagg one rather than a stiff plastic type.
But I still know it's there. You know whar I mean, when you love your phone you don't want to hide scratches but you want to fix them.
Will polishing the screen work?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Why don't you try Displex scratch remover? But be careful not to rub it too hard.. What it does is that it levels the surface by grinding the surrounding surface area and filling the scratches. The more you do, you will end up removing the Oleophobic coating! So you will have to do it with less pressure till the scratch disappears.. Once done, make sure that you put a screen protector..
Those hair line like scratches are unavoidable. I can very well understand what you are talking about. I had the same experience with the iPhone 4S and the HTC Sensation. Those scratches are not visible in sun light but under specific yellow lights.. You can't feel them or do they affect the clarity.. But it bother's us Thats when I learnt to put a screen protector the moment I buy a new phone
THIS is what Im talking about!
I used a CD restoring kit before. Not sure how well that would work on Gorilla Glass thought.
Does anyone see black boxes on the screen in light when the screen is turned off. I see lots of black boxes together all over the screen?

it's disturbing the amount of people with scratches and broken screens. i dropped a phone with gorilla glass 1 a few times with no bad results and watched videos of keys trying to scratch it that couldn't. something isn't right here.

HTC One x screen shattered

Hi Guys,
First post post and its a sad one.
Word of warning to some of you guys with the one x.
I had some major screen issues when i first got my device (preordered) and i spoke to htc about the issues i was having flickering, green lines, touch issues and all the heat that the phone was generating.
I was in the cinema the other night and was texting during the copious and irrelevant adverts that accompany any film and i turned to speak to my friend and when i pressed the unlock button i discovered my screen had shattered.
I dont know wether this was a one off manufacturing error or wether it was related to the issues i was having before but a word of warning as i dont want it happening to someone else as it has taken me a while to get a new phone issued. Mine will be going to HTC for investigation no doubt. Thankfully my retailer was reasonable in the end, and when they found out i had already reported a screen fault to HTC the imediately offered a swap out.
Its not a shatter from any particular point, it just seemed to shatter from the middle out.
Before anyone comments saying you must have pressed too hard, i use my fingers for pointing and touching and dont yell "by the power of greyskull" before using my phone.
So if you are still having banding, or non responsive screen issues of anykind be careful. I hope this is a one off, but if it hapens to someone else at least you know your not the only one.
Pressure from the pocket maybe. Ive worked in the mobile industry for 8 years and have never known a screen to pop so to speak. Very strange. Could be an assembly issue with the glass slightly over sized but would still need a knock to set it off.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
maybe he dropped it and wants to believe he didn't
another cracked screen
My screen cracked when I performed a rather bad magic trick by putting my phone in my front pocket and when I took it out the screen was cracked. To say I was disappointed would be a bit of a understatement.
On contacting HTC they now say that as I unlocked the boot loader not only do I have to pay for a new screen ( I would argue any phone that cant be put in a pocket of your trousers with out cracking is not fit for purpose ) but worse as I had unlocked the bootloader that I would have to pay for a new mother board as well.
I would understand having to pay for a new screen but having to pay for a new motherboard and screen does not sit well with me. If they had said that I would have pay for the screen and done nothing else on the phone and that I would have had no warranty I would have been ok with that
mox: thankyou for implying im deluded, i will take your kind words onboard
I didnt actually put my phone back in my pocket, i have never dropped it and had a full case on it from the word go. I cant see how or why this would happen and would hope its a one off an the build quality seems good and after the updates the phone works really well.
Im hoping this was a one in a million situation that wont occur for anyone else, but i thought just in case, HTC couldnt deny it had happened before.

I've tried doing the same when im flying to people who never listen when the pilot tells you to refrain from using electronic devices, I just can't get it through customs!
It's much more likely that you applied too much pressure on the screen by accidentally pressing it against the arm rest or something else nearby while you were distracted.
Ockham's razor, the glass isn't under any load stress so it's impossible for it to suddenly fracture. And if it did, you would have heard a loud cracking noise. Pressure must have been applied. Either that or you dropped it and now you're trolling. Sorry, but I really find it difficult to believe in spontaneous shattering of a phone's screen...

Gorilla Glass looking good, hahahaha
If it took a lot of pressure to shatter a demo glass of Gorilla Glass on a board, then either you put way too much pressure, or way too much heat damaged the glass causing it to shatter.

I'm sure there's a lot of people who won't believe this story. They key, however, to communicating online is this. Apply these simple rules before you post and you'll be doing very well.
1) does what I'm about to say need to be said (does it benefit anyone)?
2) does it need to be said right now?
3) does is need to be said by me?
If the answer to any of these is "no" then probably best not to say it at all.
If someone says something you don't believe to be true but it is not hurting anyone I would generally suggest letting it go. just my twopen'th.

If you meant you scratched your screen without knowing for a fact you placed a screen protector on it yourself AFTER taking off the "I'm the ONE you've been waiting for" sticker, then no, you don't have a screen protector.
Easiest way to check is to get a piece of tape, tape it on the screen and peel.

Do you have very small mini hairs on the screen?

I have 3 very very thin ones on the flexible screen that can only be seen in the backlight, do you have any? Do you see it as a problem?
I have many of them. I have used my fold very carefully, but they keep cumming. I think there will be many more, but i dont care. I dont see them when the screen is on.

Ah, gotcha. Then I have a million of those on my screen from who knows where. At least they don't show up when the screen is on.
I did not notice this until recently on my Fold. Now it seems like I find a new scratch every other day. I just ordered a screen protector for the inside screen. It was recommended in this forum and people have used it without issue. We'll see how it goes, but I don't want it to get scratches all over:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/283631210480
I have had my fold exactly one month and the main screen is absolutely pristine, not a mark on it. I Keep the device in the official leather case around the house/ workplace and in a pouch as well when it is in my pocket to keep out any dust or lint.
i think OP needs to specify certain things. we need more context.
are you using a case? or protective sleeve?
are your pockets dirty?
if you don't have a proper protective case, maybe some dust/lint from your pockets migrated into the middle crack while folded, and you then went to use the screen without noticing.
maybe you had left your nails long one day, and happened to get into it in a game or something. gaming tends to make you press harder than you should.
i somehow highly doubt they magically appear from "regular" use.
I don't have any on my screen, you possible got those whilst cleaning the screen with an old cloth.
I'll be surprised if you get hairline scratches by regular use.
