how do you thank someone - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can you thank someone, everyone speaks of thanks button but I cant find it, is it because I have under 10 posts?

I guess I have 3 more posts to go to figure out if this is the answer to my question

http://www.hallmark.com/online/ideas/thank-you-and-appreciation/

I wanted to put this in the thread it applies to, but I can't post there because I'm a noobie . This seems a good place to put it - partly because I can't see a Thankyou button either - Tweet it, Face it or Report it, yes; Thank it , no.
Anyhow this is ref: "[GUIDE] Downgrade G2 (2.3.X) & DZ (2.3.X) & mT4g (2.3.4) & DHD w/ S-ON to Stock Froyo" in the G2 and Desire Z Android Development forum. If a mod wants to move it there that would be nice - thankyou.
I just want to say THANKYOU to Setherio and strawmetal for their guides and download links.
For some time I've been investigating moving my DZ from HTC Gingerbread to Cyanogen, but from what I could see getting round S-ON was going to be a nightmare, if even possible. The information around is confusing to put it mildly.
This thread gave me hope and these guides actually made it simple ... well maybe not that easy, but following them went pretty much without a hitch.
I just had two notable hiccups: At first adb couldn't find the files, but that was sorted by a cd to the platform-tools folder and run it from there (yes, I did change the environment Path as instructed - perhaps I needed a reboot too). The other hitch was just me mistyping a path for one command .
After dropping off the end of these guides I even got CM7 loaded using the Cyanogen wiki instructions, but it all went a bit pear-shaped then as it got stuck in a boot loop. A bit of googling found a solution - seems some other peoples' guides aren't as good as this xda one and didn't mention certain clearings of caches that were needed. But it's all up and running now.
So once again a huge THANKYOU to Setherio and strawmetal - I literally couldn't/wouldn't have done it without you.

Same here, and I can´t find nothing, nowere!!!
It would be easy for us, noobs, if we can find about in some place. Like the post who explains this new funcion, could have "but only if... you could use this".
I use some good advices here and i don´t really need to post dumb stuff just to say thank you!

Yeah the mods have gone a bit crazy in preventing noobs from participating in the dev section... just leads to way more pming and spamming in all the other sections. As you might be able to tell this is my second account after my first one got deleted cause I didn't post anything in like 6 months... lol

Nooo! I'm a noob!
Hi, that's my first post. :silly:
I came here trying to find a way to thank a dev that made my phone even more impressive. (tytung)
But as the rom is in the "Devs only area" (min 10 posts) I could not thank him.
I wish it were different. I agree with the limitation of noobs not being able to post, but I just wanted to thank.

This was an effort to combat spam, and it's had a huge impact! You'll be upgraded to a full account after a certain number of posts (5 - 8 depending on the feature)--it happens automatically. Sorry for the inconvenience

It may take time after reaching the 5-8 post limit for it to allow you access, this is because the process runs in the background.
And when you have enough posts, you can edit your Signature in the UserCP (on the left hand side called "Edit Signature").
Or just click here : Edit Signature

People / Bots were Posting generic messages, like "Thanks this is great" or in some cases, actual responses based on words in a thread. The post it's self was not spam (although pretty pointless), but the users signature would contain 3-4 links to an online company of varying levels of trustworthiness.
We used to find one or two of these bad boys a day. Because they didn't create new threads, nor did they make it obvious to the casual observer, they were getting away with it.
I have not seen one of the so called "signature spammers" since the rules were put in place.
Dave
I had the same question...this is an excellent way to manage spam users. Good job, looking forward to delving more into this forum and getting a signature!
I was a bit upset at not being able to have a signature. Thanks Daveshaw for explaining. Its indeed a great way to stop spammers.

But you could post it in General, and then help a few people out while you were there, in Q&A, if your device has one. Don't bother with useless posts, they will be deleted and you'll never get to 10.

Well, you might be right but its not that easy. You know I have experience in those stuff in the development forum, but I have no way to make posts there.
I dont wanna be a sort of spammer by posting stupid stuff to get all the 10 posts.
But this 10 post rule leaves no other way to accomplish...
To find a topic that I can make a useful post takes a lot of time.
If you can't spend the time to make ten legitimate posts before posting in the dev fora, then you don't deserve to post there. This is a developer forum, not a support website.

Oh really? I was a clueless noob total non-developer when I came here and I had no trouble at all helping people who needed links or a little guidance where to find the information they need. XDA works because people help those who help themselves. Do not post useless posts, they will be removed and you'll never get to 10.

Thank you!
Would you mind making it also sticky in the dev sub-forum? As most of the links point to dev-resources and since many questions arise concerning these topics it might help people to get started.
Looks great! Nice to have all the information gathered in one place.. will be helpful when I finally dive into the world of rooting/flashing after my exams

did you change the file name of the backup?????????????????????????????????????????????????
If your using rom manager try reflashing the recovery.
browse the SD card using your computer... find the backup file that you are trying to restore... rename it to something simple without any "-" and especially no slashes "\" or "/" ... reboot back into recovery.... no restore the newly renamed backup
oh ya and post in the right section... don't use exclamation points.... and of course my favorite: I could have answered or ignored... but i will post just to tell you you are a nugtard

I was panicky, drove into oncoming traffic and almost killed 30 people because I wasn't thinking straight and able to get my **** back proper.
We go through this everytime. Posted to wrong section, broke rules and didn't read. Stickies are there for a reason. It gets old, people don't care and post anyway.
I mod alerted the post before I posted to help avoid flame wars thinking a mod would come along and move it quick, and yet here it still sits. So apparently no one else cares that Q&A gets posted here.
So, instead of fighting the problem, it's easier anymore to just 'lulz' around in these threads and wait for the next one to be posted to repeat the process.
Then you might ask "why not just help?". For one, it just encourages more of this crap. Next, I read the OP. Any help given would be a shot in the dark and not worth the time or effort. Others have 'suggested' things but without more information from the OP, who seems to have vanished, we can't help anymore than playing 20 questions.

How do I give thanks for a post?

Hello, all.
First of all, let me say that I did not make the decision to create a thread lightly. I have been a member of this forum for over a year, and this is my first post. I have looked everywhere, but cannot find this simple answer.
How do I thank a member for his/her excellent work? Specifically, I have been trying to thank twa_priv for his excellent Kindle Fire JB build, which I have been using fr the last week or so. I cannot find a thank button. I do not have permission to post in the thread; (which I do not have any intention of doing, anyway, unless I have a specific question or error to report) but, does that mean I do not have permission to thank? Do I need to spam away 9 more posts to have the right to thank someone? I read that there should be a picture of a flower (or, at least, there would be on Tapatalk, which I am not using), but don't see anything of the sort using Chrome on Ubuntu.
Thank you in advance.

That's exactly the information I was looking for. The link was helpful, too. You may have noticed that I gave a disclaimer to my post. I have been using this forum for thirteen months without ever having posted anything. I felt like a total jerk for even having had to create a thread for something so trivial. I usually search and easily find the answer to any question, but was not finding anything about this. I am certainly trying not to be obnoxious to anyone. Thanks again!

Trying to be a good new user I searched for how to give thanks and found this thread instead of spaming other threads with "Thanks for posting" Appreciate the clarification on why I couldn't see the thanks button.
Thank YOU!
I actually joined this site just to thank someone who posted an updated app, but wasn't sure how until I saw this.
Feels like a lot of hoops, but hopefully it's worth it.
It's at the bottom-left of the post . I don't have it at first but after my first post , *poof* it's there and available XD
Thanks for the thread as I also want to be able to give people their just due.
Just in addition:
On Tapatalk and XDA app, just long-press the post you want to thank for, then scroll a little bit to the right in the appearing actions menu and select "Thanks" (may be in your system's language).
Enable thanks button by having a post
This is my obligatory first post to enable the thanks button. Figured this was the best thread to do it.

I know exactly what you mean by lazy persons, there are just too many people who does not search or try to do something about their issues with their device themselves and just wants to be spoonfeed by others.

I agree, if you're so easily offended by people who aren't even aggressive but just a but dull, you shouldn't make a public release. All others have to deal with this as well, deleting a thread just because somebody posted something that might be considered a "negative comment" because he made a mistake is ridiculous. That doesn't reflect on the dev but that person alone, most people reading here are intelligent enough to recognize that.
Also, if people are making the same mistakes over and over, your documentation is probably lacking, and documentation is part of any release. And if people are supposed to test a release, they need to know how to use it. Plus it would be wiser to listen and consider the possibility that there's an actual bug instead of always saying "nah, you did something wrong".
Sorry to say that because I really appreciate his work and porting the Privacy Guard was a great unique feature, but at times munjeni was just rude for no reason. And this final move is an insult against everybody.

I know that but @KennyG123 told me that I need to contact moderators for thread close! I will contact administrator and ask him about my rights for my own threads since if these thing which @KennyG123 told me is true than I can not see reason why "we" r.c. or r.d. have these option available under thread menu, thats realy funny if we have no right for closing own treads or asking moderators for own thread deletion. Sorry, I didn't see the report for this one. And I apologize but RDs can close their own threads for any reason, RCs cannot. I apologize that the green of your username resulted in me only showing you the RC rules. Again apologies for not seeing that this morning.
