Search button, cm7 nightly acting up - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed yesterday from the home screen i press the search soft button it opened up Pof app. Today in the Facebook app i press the search soft button and it opens up the messenging app. Any ideas? Thinking about flashing a cm7 stable and see if that fixes it unless someone has a better idea...

Have you let someone use your phone recently? Check under "Settings/CM Settings/Input" to see if the options for search button are selected to launch custom apps. That's about the only thing I can think of causing this behavior. Otherwise, you may want to reflash the rom.

I will fix the permissions even though i don't really know what that means except keep it from force closing

I'm not sure if a script would produce that side effect, especially if nobody in that script thread posted about the issue before you. What script(s) are you using?

My physical keyboard

So im sure its posted somewhere on the forms in the cyanogenmod 7 , when I press certain keys on my slide out keypad it takes me elsewhere examples b will pull up my browser,e does my email set up, and s takes me to my SMS lists probably goin to go back to 2.2. If I can't figure it out, at one point it was okay yesterday then it came back so im thinking its a background program and when I reboot it starts up

This has been covered extensively, it's the Quick Launch function. If you don't use it, go into Settings/Applications/Quick Launch and turn off all the key mappings there.

try a diff. ROM and if the same problem occurs ur hardware is messed up and needs replacing.

Holding search button causes FC

Every time I hold the search button, it causes a force close. I suspect this is because I restored vlingo with TB upon setting up the phone (I didn't realize vlingo came on the phone). However, uninstalling vlingo has no effect. Also, I checked Vlingo, Voice Search, Voice command, etc., and I don't see any of them mapped to the search button (I can't click clear defaults on any of them). Is there a way to tell what is mapped to the search button, and change it?
Thanks
Might have something to do with the lockscreen/AIO mod that's been included with recent roms. Mine does the same thing, it's just buggy.

Good thought. I did run the AIO mod. I am running the stock kernel currently, but it's rooted.

Are you on Starburst rom? If so you need to go into lockscreen settings and map an application to the long hold search. This should eliminate the FC.

I'm on the stock rom, but your suggestion worked! I didn't realize that's where the mapping was. Thank you so much!

No worries, glad it worked.

I have the same problem. Also looking for help.
I found out what was causing it at least for me. I use screen filter to dim my screen since it will turn of the lights on home, menu, back, and search. When screen filter is enabled it messes i cant tap install. When i disable screen filter i can then tap install. Do u use screen filter too?

Yeah I use it too. Let me try and see if that's the fix.
Edit: it worked. Thanks for this.

Close apps

Does anyone know how to close apps when you hold the middle button down without swiping them all? Task managers don't work. Please see my photo

If you are on stock rom, i'm afraid there is no easy solutions ... i didn't find any myself
On custom rom, some give access to a button to close every running app, CM10 for example, on top right of the screen
