Emulator wish list - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Aside from modern consoles (ps2 onwards) what emulators would you love to see on the Xperia Play?
I'd love to see an N-Gage emulator (laugh away) as it had some decent games. I recall a WW2 strategy type game but can't remember what it was called, Tomb Raider and an Elder Scrolls game.
I'd love to see some PC conversions as well. There's a Metroid clone that looks like Canabalt called Minitroid that would be brilliant with the gamepad

I actually had the original N-Gage (still do actually) and a couple uears ago had the N-Gage 2.0 phone Nokia N-95 8gb. N-Gage 2.0 was terrible. Now the games I would love to see from the original N-Gage. Ashen, Elder Scrolls Travels: ShadowKey, Glimmerati, and my favorite - Requiem of Hell.

A Nintendo DS emulator would be awesome. Especially if you could play in landscape (with the gamepad) and see the DS's screens side by side

DS emulators for Android do exist, but last time I tried, they were too slow and had no sound, making them unplayable. I don't believe any updates have been made since.

Yeah I tried 2 of them but they were just to prove that it could be done. Unplayable

Quick games

Which games do you play (Xperia play optimized) when you just want a quick play around and not get into a game like backstab. I'm thinking of sonic to fill the gap but are there any alternatives?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
I usually fire up one of the OrangePixel platform games for a quick fix / Meganoid, Stardash or Jumpy
I never really liked those games tbh. Wasn't too fond of them and don't even like sonic that much really. Sonic 4 just looks good
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Fifa 12, mostly
I usually do Fifa 12 or asphault 6 for quick play. Just a quick match or single race and done.
With a little more time I am actually enjoying Anomaly Warzone more than I believe I should
PvZ was a great time killer as well.
I don't like fifa that much. Pes seems to have much sharper and better graphics but saying that I haven't played fifa in quite a while
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
I usually just go for a retro game emulated. My particular game of choice is Super Mario Bros. 3
For me its Fifa 12 or emulators.
DeadSpace
Asphalt 6
Modern Combat 3
ShadowGun
Or GigaWing on the Tiger Arcade
For a quick game? I wouldn't get into modern combat probably if I was short on time

I know that HTC has just became Playstation Certified but until then I'm thinking of trying out FPse on my HOX.
Has anyone here used FPse on their HOX?

I'm currently using it and can confirm that it does work well. But by no means is it perfect. Most games, when set up, will happly play at 60fps.
It does take a little time to get used to the settings and how each one effects different games (like having to set SPU Sync to play MGS) but its always being updated and improved and there is support on their forums.
PS I'm playing MGS, Gex, Spryo and Tomb Raider. All working well and scaling nicely to fit the screen, especially since the OpenGL plugin came about.

Are you playing with onscreen controls or using something like sixaxis so you can use a PS£ controller?
I'm interested in things like FF7 so I could use the onscreen controls for that no problem, tekken etc might need a controller.
I used to use the sixaxis app on my DHD which works flawlessly with FPSe, however I'm holding out for a none-root solution or s off for the time being. I also played FF7 and 9 and they play fantastically.

Would I have to be rooted to use Sixaxis? As I want to stacy stock for awhile with my HOX.
It does unfortunately, however ther are some alternatives. Check out www.phonejoy.us as an example or even http://www.droid-life.com/2012/06/0...uetooth-controller-for-android-tablets-at-e3/ that's upcoming
With tegra 3 usage on the rise I would expect to see more of these soon

does anyone have any recommend settings? I find that FF7 looks pretty pixelated and the sound is kind of choppy.
Just go to in game settings for tekken 3 and disable bgm in sound settings, use your inbuilt music player to add music game then plays 60 fps no lag on hox ;-b

I have the same problem with psx games
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The developer of Retroarch (SquarePusher) has said many times that if a game isn't working, then you should supply your own BIOS file in the ROM directory. The file in question is called 'SCHPH1001.bin'
You can find it with a bit of Googlin'
Pretty sure it has to either be all caps or all lower case. Try the other if it still doesn't work.

Either Retroarch doesn't like your N7 setup or the few games you are trying are one of the few games that don't work on Retroarch.

Put in the same folder as your PSX ROMs.
I have this same problem. Bios is on the same folder. Is there a specific file type needed for the rom? I notice I don't have a cue file. Is that the issue?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I got it to work finally, I extracted the .MDF from the zip file, and loaded it thru retro and it worked. The games kept downloading as .zips like other system Roms but I guess the psx emulator doesn't read zips according to the manual? Anyway, worked for me, not sure if that's whats supposed to be done.

[Q] [q] Best gameloft games now?

Here's the old threads, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1607643 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778316
What's the answer today? I heard they took Xperia Play controls OUT of Nova 3, is that true?
I'm looking at MC4 and Asphalt 7, I need a third game
ZombieWood is a good option. Others: Wild Blood, The dark knight and the best of all, Modern Combat 4.
Other new great game; but not made by Gameloft, is Bladeslinger.
I'm pleased to report that if asked nicely, Gameloft will provide a direct download of version 1.0.2 of NOVA 3.
I anticipate also getting MC4 for sure.
Got MC4 and Asphalt 7. Got to disable AdrenoBooster for Asphalt, still have some FCs. MC4 works great.

MW - Better graphics, most realistic, licensed cars, great carrer mode. Bad soundtrack
Asphalt 7 - The visual is not so realistic, gameplay like arcade. Great soundtrack. Multiplayer mode

I haven't played NFS:MW yet. Asphalt 7 looks bad in screenshots but actually looks and feels really good while playing. I would compare it to NFS:U on the PC, except instead of drifting mode it has a big powerslide feature they call drifting But it's actually really enjoyable. I didn't enjoy the analog control much, but using the gamepad on the Play is great. If I really want to play a simulation, I can play Gran Turismo 2!
I've only played a little MW4 and Nova 3 so far. I think Nova 3 is actually the better of the two games from a technical perspective. It feels much more responsive and the graphics come across better. It's also better from the perspective of playability on small screens. In MW4 you're expected to shoot stuff that's just a couple pixels across. It has autoaim, but it can be pretty hard to even see what you need to shoot on a 4" screen. But this is just a first reaction to the game engine, really, not the game overall.
I havent tried nova 3 yet. But i heard they removed xperia play controls. Is that true?
Sent from my r800x using xda developers app
Nova 3 1.0.2 available from gameloft
I don't even know if it's true, but if you see above in this thread, I emailed them and asked them for version 1.0.2 which I understood to have Xperia Play controls (from another forum thread, if I find it again I will link it) and they sent me a direct download link to the right version. I can confirm that version 1.0.2 works on my Xperia Play with full gamepad support including analog controls.
Im already have nova 3 1.0.2 version, but the touch analog got problem when on vehicles. Really annoying to control it but already finish the game.
