interesting. Lets see what happens.
[email protected]
Don't think so...Its most likely to be Exonys based sgs2 which has ICS for quite some time...
Our's is qualcomm snapdragon based...the only variants of which is our hecules and att skyrocket..
just flash any ics custom rom for galaxy s2
the engadget article its linked from specifically says global version of the phone, so we are out of luck. that said, the latest ics leak works great.
There already is leaked version out and rotation is fixed. At this point the only things which would add anything new are if skyrocket or t989 kernel ICS kernel source is released or the official t989 is out which would have wifi calling.

Thank you! This is what people need to realize. Official ICS for our phone won't bring anything new except wifi calling. The ICS roms we have now are pretty great and Samsung themselves will have to release the kernel sources so we can get things like BLN support. We don't really need to wait on T-Mobile...
Echo
The other problem seems to be in-call echo. Looks like alot of people flash an ics rom then go back to their old one. This is the reason I haven't taken the plunge. This thing is alot trickier than my HD2 was I'll stick w/ Beastmod 5 for now.
Your gonna like the ota for the t989. It will have hardware specific programming and result in ultimate ics results.

hardware specific programming? The Hercules is almost identical to skyrocket, besides screen rotation and lack of late, both possess same gpu and are snapdragon s3.
As for official ics, as others have said, u will gain nothing. Only real improvements no require ics source code, for either device.

I live in Singapore and got the Captivate Glide with me. I am looking for a super fast, super stable, least bug free ROM. I need tethering to work, keyboard backlight would be nice and the camera to be stellar.
I need your advice. Should I be going for:
I927UCLG9 - "Official" Leak - 4.0.4 ICS
Cyanogenmod 9.1
or anything else?
dude the cyanogenmod 9.1 is for the captivate not the captivate glide.
there is no official support for CM on the glide,
i know that dman working on an "unofficial" CM9/10 port.

If you want a bootloop or hard brick, go for the latter
There's a keyboard light fix in these forums. NardROM has it implemented. Tethering app in NardROM. Camera apps available from Market. Camera ICS is nice.

Yes, much more research, reading, and understanding is necessary here. Don't flash anything unless you completely understand what you are doing.
Anyone hear anything lately on the official update? Last I checked the i9100 was to receive it but nothing about the other GSII variants was mentioned. Dying for a stable JB rom WITH driver optimization. If any of you have used a Galaxy Nexus with JB you already know about Project Butter and all its 60fps glory. I for one cannot wait!

I'm pretty certain that the herc doesn't have any kernels that work with the latest nightlies yet, besides the bundled ones. As far as the skyrocket side goes I think the instigatorX kernel is the one i've heard alot about, however that one hasn't been updated since 8/23 which would in my opinion cause it to be way out of key with the latest CM10 nightlies considering all the changes that are put into the build on a daily basis.. Best thing to do is to keep an eye out for a new one to be released..

Mikeyman, he is part of team chopstix, CM maintainer of the T989 has highly adviced not to use any custom kernels. The kernel is highly bundled with the ROM. A custom kernel will only cause problems.

Telus just updated their jellybean update schedule for the T989D aka the S2X/Hercules but surprise, surprise its been pushed back to April. "Testing pending" for what? Sign me up Telus and I will gladly leak the build to xda dev's! So who will get their first in a race to the bottom? Telus or T-mobile?

looking forward to get this JB release. I have T989D with Rogers, but I always have problem with CM10/10.1 Nighties build, I can not call in/out after use the Fongo app (free VOIP soft phone). Until a few days ago, I switched to this

Currently my carrier is Rogers, but I got my T989D from Telus last year, that's why I want this Telus JB release.
From what I gather Rogers' S2 LTE is equivalent to the AT&T Skyrocket. Their ROMs can be readily ported (not that I know how, but...) to T-Mobile T989, but with some issues, such as call echoing.

Man am I glad I started flashing ROMs. I was actually going to just wait for the official JB release when they claimed it would be here by late February/early March. Now I'm running ptmr3's Jedi CM build 3 with no issues. I don't think I'd even bother with the official update if it was released tomorrow. It would be a downgrade, lol.

You definitely right, however it will come handy to iron out some of the issues (call echo, etc) when it finally drops followed by the release of the sources.

Exactly, but if your running a cm10 aosp rom or 10.1 aosp you can enable noise suppression under call settings followed by a reboot and it will eliminate call echo. The sources of telco jb roms are most important as they will contribute to better performance in dev roms when the devs pick them apart for things like improved wifi and bluetooth, stable(r) kernels, network tweaks, better radios, etc.

If they "didn't work" the devs would take them down or not put them up in the first place. Are there some bugs here and there? Yes. Read the threads for those.

Of course. I was just wondering if there were any kernel limitations or major bugs that were not ROM specific, or just in CM10.2.

I'm curious how it is that we have to many custom 4.2.2 rom for the Hercules, yet the graphics driver is not supported?? Did Cyanogen and other rom developers somehow find a way to port the old Qualcomm drivers to other versions of android? Or are we just using the previous 4.1.2 drivers somehow. Either way the statement that the update is somehow incompatible with our device is purely garbage. Truth be told, it is simply a way to sell more devices, at least it is for those who are not willing to flash custom ROMs. For the rest of us there is 4.3 on a device that began as a gingerbread device, which is awesome. Now bring on the KitKat, because I'm sure our device can rock some 4.4 just as well.

Not a dev so these questions are over my head, but I am curious about the answers as well. And if they Key lime pie (kitkat) rumors are true about it being less spec hungry then it might just be the best running version of Android to grace our phones.
