Problem with rooting after new mainboard! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried Revolutionary but it does not work! After everything is ready and I'll go into recovery so it will just upload a picture on a phone with an exclamation point on!
But it says Revolutionary at the top of hboot.
Tried Unevoked.
Almost succeeded now Root with Unevoked but got this error message:
E: Can not find MISC:
E: Can not find mount CACHE: recovery / command
E: Can not find MISC:
E: Can not find mount CACHE: recovery / log
E: Can not find MISC:
+ The Revolutionary stands when I go into recovery!
how do I get rid of the Revolutionary, feels like a virus right now
Need help!

Hold vol down and press power. Does the screen say Revolutionary S-off? If so Revolutionary has updated your bootloader. This is good you don't want to get rid of this. It will give you many more options than S-on & doesn't effect the day to day use of the phone. It's the next level beyond root access.
Do you now have a recovery?
If you are s-off but with no recovery you can download 4ext recovery updater from google play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ext.recovery.control&hl=en and this will install a very good recovery for you.

Revolutionary doesn't root your phone it gives you S-off, which is a good thing so you want to keep it. Worthwhile you posting bootloader details to check, as odd custom recovery wasn't installed unless you said no to installing this. If Revolutionary was successful, as has been said install 4Ext recovery then, download either the Su zip package linked to on the Revolutionary documentation page, copy to sd card and flash from recovery or download custom Rom, copy to sd card and flash from recovery. Either should give you root access.

[Q] Cant partition my sd card to via RomManager.

Hi,
I'm trying to partition my SD card (8G class 10) using the RomManager without any success.
After I chose all the parameter for the partition, the phone reboots and I receive a black screen with a droid and an orange exclamation mark.
The phone will stay like that (I left it for the whole night) unless I'll enter the recovery screen by pressing PWR+VOL UP.
If I do that I get the following error messages:
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.07
finding update package
Opening update package
E: failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (invalid argument)
E: signature verification failed
instalation aborted.
I'll get the same errors if I'll enter the recovery from using the RomManager option.
If I'll enter the recovery via HBOOT these errors are gone.
My HTC desire is rooted, S-ON
Hboot 0.93.0001
Android 2.2.
Besides that I don’t have any other problems and the phone is working fine (or so I think )
Thanks in advance

ROM Manager is not an ideal solution to partition your card. I've found that the easiest solution is to use a dedicated partition manager like Gparted or use the partition manager of a Ubuntu LiveCD. If you have a spare blank cd, create a bootable cd with gparted, and use it to partition. Anyway, ROMmanager has a lot of limitations with partitioning, it's not at all flexible with sizes.
Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.
One more noob's question.
After creating the partition (btw any recommends regarding optimal partition sizes ( is there anything else I should do to activate the a2sd+ option or it will be done automatically ?
Anything around or above 512 Mb should be fine. Dont go above 1.5Gb though. A2sd+ is automatic
You have to turn signature verification off in recovery. Boot in to recovery, then select "install zip form SD" there is the option to toggle signature verification, do that and reboot. Now you can use rom manager.
If you feel that you are not sure about using Gparted and stuff, continue with Rom Manager. In the Rom Manager menu, click flash ClockworkMod recovery and then select the options to partition your SD Card
Thanks,
I used Gparted and it worked like a charm

Good to know..
Gparted and its sibling in Ubuntu are really great if you want to play with your partitions, like resizing them.

unrevoked 3.22 misc error

Hi,
I have followed all the steps that were provided on multiple forums and websites. But it seems that everything I try results in the following message.
Internal Error: couldn't find misc
I have even used unrevoked 3.2.
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2
My phone is currently locked to O2 not sure if this makes a difference but I received the phone a month ago.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?
Thanks
having same issue here, searched the web for hours and just keep hitting dead ends, doesn't seem to be much on this error
have you tried the older version 3.14?
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.14/reflash_package.exe
this has worked for me previously
i think your misc partition is screwed... flash this (see attachement)... rename it to update.zip
and if that doesnt work search the web for PB99IMG.zip, and if you find it you will find instructions for it too
how is he supposed to flash it if he does not have a custom recovery

Believe that requires a downgrade to 2.1, which I really can't be bothered with

I believe using magic would allow this to happen
not at all, i've rooted a 2.2 Froyo with unrevoked, 3.14
I've had this exact error happening over and over on my EVO 4G FroYo
Hi
Di you find a solution ??
Does the solution of PhysX work ?
thanks

I have just done S-OFF on my phone now everything is great. I used the alpharev.iso.
1. All I did enable the USB Debugging and default connect was set to charge only.
2. Burn a CD from the aplharev.iso image.
3. Boot off the CD and CAREFULLY follow the instructions.
Now my phone is fully rooted.
Version unRevoked 3.14 (as downloaded from the link in this thread) worked fine for me. I used the latest 2.5.1.8 ClockworkMOD.
All worked ok - in fact, without issue.
Just a small follow-up from me. Still not bothered to try anything much, not all that fussed about root.
Unrevoked 3.31 does actually gain temp root for me now, it just fails to unlock the NAND for some reason. Stupid thing

I still had the misc errors and didn't realise, but I have upgraded to clockworkmod 2.5.1.8 and now all REALLY OK.

Very noobie sorry.

Ok, I have rooted my HTC Desire useing revoked3 and am now trying to install bravo Desire 2.3.4 DjRoobs hiapk v3.6 signed.zip but it keeps saying "assert failed: write_raw_image ("/tmp/boot.img".
Installation aborted.
Please can someone tell me in Laymans terms where I am going wrong.
Please can anyone help, I have looked everywhere for how to do this and everyone just uses abreviations that I don't understand. I just wanted to get more space on my phone but am now a little fed up with all this.
Most people are still in work so have some patience

Re-download the rom and try to flash again.
No didn't work, will I have to install radio with this and if so which would be best?
What's your bootloader version?
Bootloader 0.93
Pluswhen I go into clockwork recovery it says
E:Can't find MISC:
E:can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC:
What have I done wrong? I followed all insructions.
Also when I try to install ROMS off of SD it gets half way then aborts.
Please help.
If you have PVT-4, use amon-ra recovery instead of clockwork.
To check, while the phone is off, press volume down and power on. Look at top left if it is pvt-4.
in unrevoked, choose recovery image amon-ra. you can download amon-ra image from this forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839621
Yes, that seems like you have to use AmonRA or CWM 2.5.1.8 (or newer 3.x.x.x) to make it work.
also dont forget basic things
1)partition sd card into fat32 and ext3 or ext4
2)view the requirements of the rom(MOST IMPORTANT)
some roms require custom hboot

Require is imho too much. Sounds for me like as if you cannot install this rom, when you do not have the custom hboot. But usually it's just recommended to install a custom hboot.

[Q] (Q) Issues with flashing etc on Desire

Well, I have rooted my phone with unrevoked it installed the recovery mod 2.5.0.7 and I'm a bout to flash my phone. Thing is though I've been here for a while.
The story goes like this.. Relatively chronological..
I download HBOOT drivers install them on my Windows 7 64bit. I then download and run unrEVOked3, hook up my phone and choose charge only. unrevoked3 does it's thing and everything seems fine. I partition the SDcard with 6,5gb fat32 and 1gb ext4. Then i go into recovery i then go to wipe data/factory reset and chose it. Then i cant find dalvik data at first but i later find it, so i wipe that. Then I chose to install zip from sdcard which earlier moved. The InsertCoin A2SD+ 1.0.9 mod.
It starts up finds the file and starts flashing or so it seems.
It stops, and I cant remember the error message. So, I go searching cant really find anything except the fact that I should have wiped cache partitions also.. So I go back do a full wipe again and run it.
Then I get this error message: ( i tried again with a Cyanogen mod, and i got assert_failed write_raw_image...)
- assert failed: Package_extract_file("boot.img","/tmp/boot.img")
E: Error in /sdcard/InsertCoin_GB_Sense2.1_A2SD+_1.0.9.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted..
I then find the baadnwz irc and ask for help there.. repartition my sdcard with gparted, and run through it all again...
Same error..
I then notice that CWMR is saying:
E: Cant fint MISC:
E: Cant mount Cache:recovery/command
E:Cant find misc:
E:Cant mount cache:recovery/log
E: cant fin misc:
I ask if this is normal, NO, is the clear answer i get.. so i test different things, new repartition correct sized and everything..
Still same..
Then I go and download the Froyo RUU and install it reset everything (of course i forgot to sync my contacts..) and i do everything from the top root, cwrm and try flashing but the same errors are still there..
So i then create this thread hoping that this error already isnt here after search.. And hoping someone can help me..?
I'm running the HTC Desire on HBOOT 0.93.0001, radio 5.11.05.27.
Worst thing is no matter how many times i wiped the different things no changes were made on the phone, when i rebooted i still got up my original bckgrnd image and everything...
So, what is going on?
It might be worth watching a few vids and reading a few guides. Here's a start http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084. Also, don't worry. I messed up too when I first started to root and flash.
I can't remember what the status 7 error is and how to fix it. Think it's just to re-download the rom and try again.
If you have PVT4 device, you need to use AmonRA recovery.
I guess you're S-ON? If S-OFF try recovery from my sig.
Ironically I have used the tutorial in the development forum.. Used all the videos i could find, except s-off cause i was told i didnt have to do that when i was just flashing a new ROM..
How do i know if i have a pvt4 device?
edit: i found out.. im a pvt4 device..
Then root again, download recovery from my sig unpack .img and choose "custom recovery" in unrevoked and select it.
You can also use AmonRA recovery.
Or if you don't want to root again, S-OFF and flash new recovery in fastboot.
I don't really understand why they made CWM default recovery in unrevoked, people have so many issues with it. :-(

This error is currently stopping me from doing anything to my phone. I can't boot any roms or restore any previous backups.
I have been following this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275632 the advanced boot problems section and cannot solve any of the errors,
So far I have this displayed.

Try to use a different recovery. I remember not being able to do my initial backup using CWM after rooting with unrevoked on a PVT4 version of Desire. I replaced it with AmonRA long ago and was able to nandbackup.
Right now I use the one on my sig. The best recovery I've used.
reply
I looked at how to install Amon Ra recovery but will be unable to do it because I cannot "Enable USB debugging on the android device in settings" because I cant even boot my phone.
Then you have to do it via adb/fastboot check bortaks guide (on my sig and read flashing custom recovery) or search for android flasher and use it to flash a new recovery. keep your device s-off as it will be handy
If you're S-OFF do a full wipe (including recovery), then flash recovery and try to flash a ROM.
If you're not S-OFF, boot into fastboot mode (hold back & power) and either find the correct RUU for your network provider, or stick a goldcard up in your Desire and use the WWE RUU.
If you're too lazy to do either of those, you can risk the 2.3 RUU. The risk is if that goes bad, you have nothing to fall back on. If the 2.2 goes bad, you have others to fall back on, and the 2.3 one..
oh and stankyou, thanks for linking my guide on your sig ... though somebody needs to have it, I'll be outta here soon
