Working Market/Play Store at non-standard DPIs? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello-
Is there any real way to get the Play Store to show all apps while using a non-standard DPI (i.e. not 240 or 160)? I've researched this pretty extensively, and seen purported fixes, but none seem to work. Resetting the DPI and rebooting and clearing the app data every time I want to download an app or check for updates is driving me insane. And at 240 this screen is comically huge, and at 160 impossibly small (I can't even get the status bar to pull down).
Thanks for any input.

Take a look here, just a quick search. I never tried using these though.

Thanks, the solution you linked to seems to be working!
I searched quite a bit before posting this, and tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582998 and another one similar to it, but neither worked.

Glad it worked for you, also for the notifications pull down, I remember when I was on 160 dpi, I used adw and go launcher both of those launchers have swipe actions. So as long as you swipe down on the homescreen it will pull your notifications down for you.

For anyone else reading this, the aforementioned fix failed to work after a few days, however, going into Settings->Apps->Google Play Store and clearing the app's cache/data then rebooting seems to have fixed it again.
Apparently the fix is baked into the app, but with time it "learns" I have a different DPI and starts restricting things again, which is why you have to erase its data periodically.

Modded Vending (Play Store) & GoogleServicesFramework apk
Came across this topic and so thought I give you some heads up to how you can stay compatible with Play Store apps indefinitely from this LINK all thanks to [email protected]!...
The modded Play Store allows app compatibilty on density changed handsets ( using dpi's other than 160 & 240 dpi density ), although the one in post #3 here is the latest version modded while the one in the link I provided is 3.5.15, GoogleServicesFramework allows Play Store app to stay compatible forcing android not to revert back to standard dpi density the Play Store requires!...
I hope this helps with all you following this topic?!...
Okay 2 cents done

I haven't messed with anything other than 160 for this exact problem. I'm surprised there isn't any sort of spoof. Going lower is very tempting but I couldn't deal with it being broken I reboot for enough other reasons (despite it still being quick on aokp m5)

Often Android market compatibility issues arise from changes made to the LCD-density property in the build.prop file.
If you've got root access, you can google your device and 'build.prop' to find the standard. You can use ES File Explorer (or a range of others) to change the property. Then if you change it back, it should work again. That's if it's a market compatibility issue.
I've got an SGS2, and when I installed earlier ICS ROMs they also had problems with Words with Friends. It would install properly, but then freeze or crash...leading to the acore process ending.
If it's a custom ROM, try posting in the forum where you DL'ed it. Either the dev will already know about it, or he won't. In either case, he should be able to tell you if there's a fix, if there's a fix-work-in-progress, if it's a samsung problem, or if you're just SOL.
If it's a stock ICS from Sammy...well, you might just be out of luck.
Like the gentleman said above. It's probably due to changing your resolution. Fortunately, I had the same problem and did a lot of research and found a fix. There's 2 ways to fix it.
1. Set it back to the default resolution, then reboot and clear the market's memory.
2. Pay for LCD Density Modder Pro (3 bucks) on android market. It can fix it so the resolution doesn't screw up the market any more. This is the route I took and it worked great.

All LDMP does is have you download and install a modded market, right?
(Not knocking the app, just asking)
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
sideload the apk??
or another trick ive read recently is to use the browser and find the app on the web market, click install, select the browser on the pop-up, sign into your account, select browser again on pop-up, click the back button once and that time select market not browser....hope u can follow all that and that it works??

What DPI (LCD Density) are you using? If you changed it from the default of 240 that often causes problems with the Market. If you are not running at 240 then you should try this
clear the market data and cache
set the density back to 240 (i.e. edit system/build_prop to have ro.sf.lcd_density=240)
reboot
use the Market to update everything (hopefully it works)
set your density back to what you want
reboot
Another issue could be the country you live in. For example, Google prevents Taiwan users from accessing paid apps. You can solve this by using Market Enabler, but you still need to do be at 240 DPI.
Hey thanks for the reply!
I've looked at my DPI in my build prop, it's already at 240 so I haven't touched that
And I've used market unlocked set it to US,
Its crazy I did everything!!, I forgot to mention that I tried the above techniques already
sorry no avail there
Any other ideas?
It seems just impossible for me??
If you are trying to get an app that Google doesn't want you to have in your country then faking your country won't help if you have to log into your Google account to get it.
The only other thing i can think of is to use another store like SlideMe or AppBrain. I have to use SlideMe to get 4Ext for example.

Hey, I tried appbrain, it shows the app I'm after!!!
When I press install takes me to Google play, and I get incompatible error, and I cant install
Seems weird my tones fully rooted, s-off and all, and I can't mod this, there has got to be a way.
Thanks for your help!!

Yes, if a different market redirects you to Google then it won't help. Try SlideMe.org, it seems to be completely separate from Google, but I've only used it for 4Ext so far.
Hey thanks for ur reply, i downloaded the app i want useing chrome and APK Downloader
And guess what the so called "incompatible" app works!!, I just want the convenience of every app on Google play!
Thank you!

DPI Settings (w/ Play Store)

I guess I'm just having a misunderstanding and any help is greatly appreciated.
So the stock DPI setting is 240, I dropped mine down to 190 or so give or take, and obviously that causes certain apps to not even appear on the market. Been using other places just to get apk files so they obviously work fine. I was under the impression that just changing back to 240dpi along with clearing market cache and resetting phone would re-allow me to see certain apps that aren't showing. I must be doing it wrong because this definitely isn't working for me lol
I've seen on other phones Market compatibility fixes to trick the market into thinking we have the stock DPI set. Do we have anything for our E4GT's that will achieve this trick.
I thought I wouldn't have a problem with just going back on fourth but showing off the phone and having to spend 2 minutes to go back and change settings just to download an app is kind of a hassle
Thanks again!
Get LCD Density Modder Pro and use it to patch the Store.
I've gone through a bunch of densities to find what I like, eventually settled on 206 as our screen is 206ppi. Quite happy with it.
I had to clear paly store cache/data, google framework cache/data and reboot. Worked for me.

Try the third or fourth one.
Assuming you modified it via the build.prop, and the above fixes don't work for you, you'll need to restore the resolution back to what it was in the build.prop. Then clear the Google Play Store data and cache, and reboot. It will work for you after you start Google Play Store again.
That is one of the problems I faced on my G2, and I gave up using a different resolution for this very reason.

Can't access or download almost anything in the Play Store anymore. Help?

I'm running Jellybomb, didn't have the problem in the past: just started recently.
Almost everything I try to get says "Your device is not compatible with this version." Hell, I can't even get most apps to even show up on a search in the Play Store; I actually have to use a hyperlink to even get them to show up. (Doesn't matter, free or paid, Btw)
Anyone experienced this, or know a fix?

what DPI are you running at? i ran into a similar problem on one of the tablet note 2 roms, and the only way i found to fix it was to use Xposed and resize play store to 320 dpi and a lower res.
WI'll definitely give that a shot. (I honestly need to check the DPI...I'd bet it's not 240 or 320, and probably is the issue.)
Edit: Actually tried both; 240 fixed it to where I could at least search for everything, but still only install some; 320 fixed it completely.
Thanks again...
