Hi
Is it possible to replace Play's camera module for a NEO's 8Mp one or from another xperia 2011 phone, like Ray or Arc?
I've seen some disassembly videos and the connector seems to be the same in all of them.
Regards
I don't know but I'd imagine that it would require kernel modifications and would be an overly complex solution...
depend on rom..

Well i know if we have a Neo V and get the 8mp camera module of Neo and flash the Neo camera files we get a full Neo.
Since the conectors are the same the module should work i think and with that the camera files should work on Play.

What do you mean?
Nothing?
I'm sure megapixel is hardware related. I doubt flashing a different camera would work
Kinda like asking "If I flash my NES could I make it into an Xbox360?"

I think he's talking about swapping out the physical module
that's why I said and ezadsyafiq99 said that it would certainly require software modifications (somehow I can't think of a wording that comes off less angry sounding; I'm just trying to explain

Well, like University answered, i was talking about switching the hardware camnera module from another phone (Neo,Arc) since in the Neo V you can use the 8mp module of Neo.

Well i will assume that isn´t just switch the module, also some libs and etc.., but i would like to know is if any one knows if there is a module that is plug and play (aside from the software mod).
If you switch the camera of the play for the neo, doesn't that mean you'll need to.switch the camera.apk because the one the play has the mp option up to 5mp

Well, if a camera module of Neo is hardware compatible, i will assume that i will need to change the camera.apk and libs and some more software related.
Hmm I was wondering something similar: my xperia s camera module is broken (only think broken after a 4 story fall!) and I can only find 8mp Neo modules online.
Do you think I can just swap it with my current module (as they are basically the same) or would it require APK fiddling?

I´m not 100% shure, in the Neo V it´s just switch the camera module with the Neo and flash the Neo firmware and all set, so i´ll assume that in Xperia 2011 range i could try to add a 8mp to the Play, my friend has a Neo V and he will make the upgrade to the 8mp, and i will try the 5mp of his Neo V on Play, if it works, so should the 8mp too.
In Xperia S it´s a new line up, but the software seems the same, if the conecctors are the same and since your warranty is gone, you could give it a go.
But still, i would search for the original since it´s 12mp, going to 8mp it´s a long downgrade.
Well, i already checked a camera module from Arc and Neo, none fits the Play, only hope is the Ray or Mini could fit.

The ICS camera app requires frameworks that are in ICS. So you likely won't get it on Gingerbread.
Now if all you want is to map the shoulder triggers to do camera functions, that is certainly possible. It requires reboots when you want to go between game and camera modes though, from when I last heard.

There is a free app on the market that does exactly that.Just search Camera Mod for Xperia Play.

I am currently on ics rom now.. I downloaded some app from market to change the function.. But super user keeps on popping up
So I flashed CM10 so I could have the latest Android release. I like the new features and I love the camera controls. The HDR feature though is weak, pretty much unusable unless you have a tripod. The stock TW camera was nearly perfect when I did HDR. Ive tried other HDR apps in the Play Store and none of them are any good.
Does Samsung have something special in its camera app? Better algorithms that nobody else has figure out yet for HDR? I know this is probably not possible, but could the TW camera be used in CM10?
Agreed and no, and Samsung camera has all the code it needs to function, CM/aosp and other roms alike use what they can and crack their own hacks to make things function. If they had the proprietary drivers and coding and such their camera would be superb. No go on the TouchJizz camera on CM though, I wish it was possible to have Touchwiz camera and AOSP gallery but they just had to tie them into one app lol.

It's a setting you can use to take pictures. Like low light, burst mode, etc.

Search for app 'Hdr Camera' in play store.
Works better than stock CM HDR - takes photos *much* faster, combines them more accurate.

Tried that app, found it slow compared to Samsungs camera.
I've noticed that the camera quality of the Ion has a LOT of noise - it's nowhere near as good as my 8MP LG G2X.
Can anyone please point me towards a fix for all the noise in this camera?
Thanks!
there is no noise fix for these old xperia cameras, the xperia NXT cameras are failours of cameras and i have never seen any such fix
i do recommend using some camera mods as some do lower the amount of noise

Google camera doesn't work on the xperia m. Unless you disable the Google framework services ,which is not recommended

Those apps can't change the camera quality... But if any Dev can make all Samsung cam flash and add some extra tweaking, then camera quality may become good
Hello,
I have a arc s (lt18i) currently running ICS 4.0 (ultimate HD). I am considering switching to a 4.1+ but I have questions about what I am going to lose.
I read some disadvantages of 4.1+ roms, and I want to have precisions/informations about that :
HDMI is not possible with these ROMs. What is the exact cause of that ?
HD video recording (720p) seems not to be possible. Is that true ? it would be a great incovenience for me
Does the overall camera quality is the same as with ICS roms ?
thanks on advance for your answers.

another thing you'll miss is sony dialer app ,, and ICS sony camera is better than cm camera but on the other hand cm10 based roms are way faster and lighter and smoother than ics as for multitasking and games << if you were going to upgrade to 4.1 I suggest that u try super jelly bean rom
Thanks for your answer i was actually looking at SJB. How is exactly better the sony camera compared to the CM one.

Some games like NFS MW works smooth while little games like Candy Crush just lags a lot & crashes..
Agreed with both @Attitude.SSJ and @xkifah.
On JB, had been using SJB8 and Slimbean511 for quite a while, I'm afraid the sony camera (ICS) would be very much better.
I think SJB is stable and Slimbean is beautiful.
Try using the LuPuS(FULL) kernel for taking better foto / video.

most cm roms won't let u record 720p and for normal photos I don't know but photos taken with Sony camera just feels better than those taken with Google camera but there's a plenty of alternative camera apps on the market and some of them have really nice features in the end i guess that the goods surpass the bads so why don't u try it yourself as it wont do u any bad and see the difference yourself
4.1 most cm roms fastest than others but my think gaming better than others, for usual use its bad to using bro

To be specific, switching to 4.2 and above means losing radio, in 4.1 radio is working
