Hi Guys
Just thought id post this for reference as the information i was given on the htcdev site is different to what they informed me directly.
"Thank you for your reply.
I do apologise Gavin, but installing any other ROM on your phone apart from the Vodafone custom ROM will void your HTC manufacturers warranty, regardless of if it is a HTC standard ROM or not. This means that if you ran into any issues and sent the phone off for repairs to us, this repair would be chargeable. In my experience, this type of repair usually cost almost the equivalent of buying a new phone as the motherboard may need to be replaced. I do apologise for the inconvenience this may be causing you.
To let me know I have successfully answered your query, please follow the link below to close your enquiry, you will have the opportunity to leave feedback about your experience contacting me today."
I have queried this as the above suggested to me that my warranty would be completely voided by installing HTC own ROM.
Pretty much what you should expect, hence why if you have a branded handset you need to keep hold of the branded RUU
It'd be like sending a Mac back to apple with Windows on it and not OS X - they'd laugh at you and send it back unrepaired

Hi Mate
I understand what your saying running windows on an apple but this is htc own firmware the firmware the device was originially shipped from there company with. Vodafone changed their firmware im just trying to put it back to standard stock. So i dont really understand why running their own firmware would cause this type of issue.

The stock HTC firmware probably won't cause any issues, but this just gives them a reason not to honour your warranty, something they're always looking for ways to get out of doing...
You are mistaken. the phone would have left the factory with the vodafone ROM already on it. at no point would it have had the htc stock ROM on it.
Your device is a vodafone one X, and as such, it is only officially supported and supplied with Vodafone's software on it. once you remove that, you have modified it and therefore have no warranty.
That's simply how it is. And why you always have to keep hold of the branded RUU as EddyOS already said.
And yeah, it'll run fine with no issues on the stock rom.
so the best thing is when unlocking it then and rooting is to make a backup of the current rom and then once that is all backed up flash as much as our hearts desire?
and then if any issues just revert back to the backup and then just send it back to the manufacturer for repairs?
Iff u use htc dev for ublock ther goin to be funny regardless due to the amount of handsets going back this will be even more so

Yes, but even better is to run the RUU for your phone (1.26.771.2) to get it back to 100% stock before sending it back
REal question is, where is such a ROM?

best thing is to wait bit longer me thinks. surely they will be the revolutionary exploit S-OFF and then things will be more easier..we can only hope..going through htc-dev site for me put me off right away. i understand a company needs to cover their backs but still the whole process to revert back to factory state for our handsets seems to much..
and yes this is coming from an old s2 user...hehe life was so easier back on the sammy front
Absoultely - I'll be waiting for that personally (well, so long as it doesn't take too long)

I can't see why it should take more than a couple of weeks; Vodafone should really have a dedicated team for this kind of thing and to be honest I'm not entirely what they actually change that takes time.
So....
If you unlocked via HTC-Dev's website, backed up your current ROM with internal key codes of your manufacturer's custom ROM builds, replaced the ROM with ARHD or another ROM.....
Then you found a problem with your phone because of a manufacturer defect (Proven on newspapers and the media in Hong Kong) such as the camera messing up with barcode lines, stutter lags throughout the UI without touching the screen, yellow spots on the display and also when pressing down on the left part of the display, the screen goes blurry and tint yellow.
So you flash back to your stock recovery backup you did at the first place, and...
You're saying that they would still fix this IF it has the original custom ROM from your carrier that came with your phone when you first opened it?

If you use the HTCDEV unlocker you agree to terms and conditions. The crux of what you're agreeing to says that if something you do to the phone causes it harm HTC's not responsible. They will repair issues unrelated to any s/w modifications (EG: display goes bad, broken USB, etc.)
Was the e-mail from Vodafone or HTC? If Vodafone is the primary for repairs they may have different terms. If they refused a repair you should be able to send it to HTC (assuming you didn't cause the fault). I'd take what's said in official HTC T&C over a contact center drone's e-mail as to what actually applies. If what was said to you in the e-mail was true XDA would light up like a Christmas tree from outraged users. I personally haven't seen any posts of HTC being particularly aggressive denying repairs on flashed phones.
I bought mine on T-Mobile from BuyMobilePhones.
After 5 days I rang them to cancel the T-Mobile contract, I had no signal at work.
I didn't send the handset, but got them to sign me up to an O2 deal.
They just sent me out a new O2 sim.
How do I know what RUU firmware I need to save as a backup?

If you don't get the T-Mobile splash screen when you turn on the handset, chances are they sent you the sim free version.
Did you get the OTA 1.28 update? T-Mobile UK hasn't pushed that out yet.

Buymobilephones.net send out unlocked, sim free handsets. You are fine.
Hi, I realise it was unbranded and unlocked and I have a CID of HTC_001.
Would this file be the one to return it to 'as shipped' if I had to send it back after

Their answer:

I am sorry to hear that you have a problem at this time with your FOTA 1.28 on your phone. You indicated that you rooted your phone on the Dev site. We don't support this because this doesn't fall under the warranty of your phone. You will be charged for any future repairs. You use the bootloader at your own risk. Hello,
I bought a new fantastic TouchPro2 Orange-branded.
I would like to install the lastest official no-brand ITALIAN ROM WM6.1 from the HTC website.
But I cannot download it because my serial number is associated to the Orange phones.
Can you help me to find this ROM or give me a valid serial number (so that I can use it again as soon as HTC will release the official WM6.5 ROM)?
Thank you in advance to all.
P.S. If someone is interested to my unlocked Orange-branded ROM 1.19.61.3 (51489) WWE no problem for me to share it !

Sorry for ignorance: if is the official HTC Rom, why do I need to installa HARD SPL?
your phone is set to only allow Orange ROMs - I think it's the CID
if you install HardSpl it allows you to flash ROMs not intended for your device and they also don't need to be signed
if you SIM-unlock your device using this forum you'll have the option to change the CID of your device - this will allow you to use any signed ROM even without HardSpl
but as I'm new to all this please wait till someone more experienced verifies this post
I think the previous Orange ROM was better than the official HTC ROM, anyway it was in english so this one is OK for me.
I'm looking forward to the official release of the WM6.5 HTC ROM !

unbranding HTC fuze and load new SA rom
I have a HTC Fuze At&T phone which I sim unlocked to use on Vodacom/MTN network. The phone software is really crappy and I was hoping that I can get a rom update on this site so that I can flash the SA version and hopefully get the GPS and browser to function.
I successfully did that for my Experia but cant find simular info for the HTC fuze or Touch pro as it is called in SA.
Any help will be great.

You should be able to flash back to your stock ROM. Is your phone an unlocked version from HTC or is it a branded version from a carrier? Also if you have hardspl your phone then you can flash any ROM you want..
what phone version do you have? On your phone, what kind of rom is it? Stock rom or cooked rom?

I don't know how to check my phone version. The ROM I got on now you mean? I'm pretty sure it was a cooked ROM. I got it from that page which shows countries and WM 6.5 versions. I can't find it anymore though. But I just chose the closest one from there.
Dont worry just flash the rom you like to try!

@ the above: Not true, CDMA TP2's are WORLDWIDE which means they have a SIM-slot aswell.
To the OP: If you want to know what kind of device you have, it's pretty simple. Do you put a sim-card in your cellphone? If yes, which operator/carrier? Where are you located?

Yes its GSM (which is the only service provided in saudi arabia and most middle eastern countries)
And yes you can flash to any rom if your device is HardSPL, just make sure its a GSM rom and not a CDMA one.
If you say you got the rom from the page with countries and 6.5 versions, those are official rom releases ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Rhodium/Shipped_Roms ) not cooked roms.

YES! That's the link! go ahead and download the official HTC rom for your device and flash it.
As for restoring the original SPL head over to the hardSPL thread and the steps to restore are at the end of the second post.

It's about choice...
Why you need flashing? if you Desire daily usage for Phone, SMS, Chat and Check Email and little bit Browse the net.. I think wait until official release for Desire much better than Rooted/Flashing your phone
Thanks for the reply.
I'd prefer not to flash or root it if I can help it.
The question really is will a UK O2 Desire automatically upgrade to 2.2 if used in New Zealand, with Vodafone ?
Thanks
Probably not. My understanding is that receiving updates is dependent on your current version. I'm on Meteor in Ireland, for example, but I won't receive any specific Meteor updates, because I have the generic HTC firmware.
So if you're on a kiwi network, with the O2 software, you'll get neither the HTC update nor any update your new network rolls out.
So either debrand now and get the HTC update whenever it's released, or wait until it comes out and flash the 2.2 rom directly.
One other thing you could do is take it to Vodafone in New Zealand and ask them to flash their own software on it. Since you're a new customer, they'll most likely oblige.
But that's if they even stock the Desire, btw. If they don't you'll have to do it yourself.
One thing to keep in mind re:carrier specific firmwares is that it may take an awfully long time for upgrades to trickle down. You could be looking at an additional month or more between HTC releasing it and your carrier releasing it.
And even when they do, they might disable certain features (wi-fi tethering, for example, isn't too popular with mobile operators)
Thanks
that is what I'd thought..
I suppose the only other thing would be if O2 released it for download, then I could manually install it !!
Are there still issues with wifi and the generic rom ?
Yeah, that's another way. Bookmark this link:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
The only issues were with people who people who debranded their phone and flashed to the generic rom. But for anybody else, there's no issues whatsoever.
Thanks
If I change the ROM is there any risk ? I'm not bothered about root, but would like to have the option of 2.2 when I'm not in the UK.
can you point me to a firmware flashing guide ?
Thanks again.
Well this is the latest (generic) rom update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684259
Very easy to install. Just download the .exe to your PC, and open it while your phone is plugged in. The installer will walk you through.
I don't know if it's that simple for branded phones though. You might have to debrand first... I honestly couldn't say. You might ask in that thread and list your FW number. Maybe somebody else will know.
You're sure it's a branded phone, yes? There's no .405 in the version number?
My firmware is : 1.20.207.3 CL171460 release-keys
I'll ask in the other forum.
Thanks

It's probably not a big deal but I think there is a reason why they put those codes in there. Maybe there are small hardware differences between different SI numbers, I don't know. Maybe that's what's causing those weird bugs on JB for people who updated using flashtool? I remember hearing back when I had the Ray that this was the case, but maybe I heard wrong.
Anyway, the main reason why I wanted to be able to do this was because I'm considering selling the phone, and wanted to know how to return it to it's original stock firmware version.

The Japanese version known as Sony Ericson Xperia NX (which dont have NFC function) and the LT26i we are using

I used the flashtool as well as the official JB hasn't released here yet, apparently for Sony Italy doesn't exist, and if it does, it comes after freaking third world countries.
Anyway, what's the point of the SI number then, if all the XS phones are identical?

(Well, some says Hong Kong (where I'm from) is supposed to be one of the slowest, but seems not really true in major update.)
I think different SI number of a rom indicate which input languages it provide in the Xperia keyboard is the main thing.
For example, they dont think u need to type Chinese in Italy, so u may not find the Chinese keyboard in your rom.
And i just flash a .211 recently, which i dont know where region it is for. This rom is lack of the Chinese keyboard. I could only flash it myself with recovery.
Maybe not just language thing all the time, some more stock settings that may suit you a bit more.
BTW, not all XS are identical. When it just release in 2012, Xperia S is known to have the yellow screen problem. (When the device overheat, the screen will show yellow patches in some part. This is a minor hardware failure) But sony offer free repair for those devices then, which replace it with a better screen. We can assume that all repaired XS and newer XS are identical now.
Hi guys, soon I'm going to buy a branded Moto G5, it's a deal.
How do I remove that mobile provider brand? (Tim Italy)
Thanks in advance
I have this same phone (XT1675, Tim). Right now I am using it with Tre in Italy.
What do you mean by remove the brand? There is a TIM based boot animation, and one or two apps that can be disabled. There is very little bloatware, and the phone runs very well and gets great battery with stock, and Oreo should be coming soon.
Se vuoi, mandami un messaggio privato in italiano.
I have the same phone, in italy; and i want to unbrand it...i've tried to unlock the bootloader but the motorola's site said me that i'll lost my warranty, but in the FAQ of this site i found this:
Does rooting/unlocking your phone invalidate its warranty? (In EU)
In short: No. Just the fact that you modified or changed the software of your device, is not a sufficient reason to void your statutory warranty. As long as you have bought the device as a consumer in the European Union.
Can i flash a custom rom and be safe? the phone has one day...
What is your goal? What do you need to do? I am not sure about the warranty in the EU. Certainly you can use a custom rom. The Lineage 14.1 unofficial is very good and stable. But the stock ROM is very good, lightweight and fast.

i want to remove the brand, the tim's app and i want better control of my phone (and also have some fun). I want a fast and light device and long battery life! No games, no incredible feauters, just whatsapp and fast browsing! I only don't want to lost my warranty

Okay, but I think that unlocking the bootloader will probably void the warranty, and you need to unlock the bootloader to install a custom ROM. For the TIM app, you can disable it: Settings-->Apps-->TIM --- disable. (Impostazioni-->Applicazioni--> disattiva.) The custom rom below is very good. But you do have to use the Motorola website to unlock the bootloader. But LineageOS might only get a little better battery life than the stock rom. The phone has good battery life for the price. I used a custom rom for months but went back to stock. If you do decide to unlock the bootloader, I recommend this ROM for now:

thank you very much for you answers!!
I just can't understand why they write things like that in the FAQ section of moto G5.. May i write to somebody of the Xda-Moderator who wrote that? I think that i'm going to maintain the original rom, i'm poor and i don't want to loose the warranty!

Figurati! You're welcome. As for the FAQ, it is different to root and to unlock the bootloader. It could be that EU law does not cover unlocking, but only rooting. But on this phone one requires the other. You can try to disable other apps you don't use,and be sure to turn off Bluetooth if you aren't using it.

The answer to this question is simple - it depends on your countries laws
The manufacturer will always claim that if you unlock the bootloader it will void the warranty but this isn't always true
UK law states that if your phone becomes faulty & your modifications are totally unrelated than the warranty is valid
E.g if you unlock & root your phone and the touchscreen stops working because of a faulty component your warranty is valid
However if you flash something or do something you can only do with an unlocked bootloader/root and it breaks the phone then it's your own fault
Either way the manufacturer will always try and claim your warranty is void either way unless you quote the law from your country however in the UK your contract is with the retailer you brought the product from and so it's their responsibility to sort it out if the product is faulty
Flashing custom roms is safe - the worst thing that can happen is your phone doesn't boot in which case either you need to flash it correctly as you did it wrong, flash a different rom, restore your twrp backup or flash a stock rom firmware via fastboot

I wrote things for which I had quite good information about :
you may take the time to read the Free Software Foundation Europe speech about this [here]
Or, if you prefer to read the official EU Directive ("Directive 1999/44/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 May 1999 on certain aspects of the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees ")
Of course, as it is a Directive and not a Regulation, I needs to be transposed under your local Country law. Nevertheless, you should be protected as long as you bought you device from an European seller.
Last, but not least you are -and will always be-, the only responsible to what you do to your own device.
