[Q] How to bypass the need of having a security when accessing a secured WiFi network - HTC One X

Hey guys,
I have a simple question, which I hope, has a simple, but atleast an positive answer.
When I try to connect my HTC One X with the school Wifi network, it says 'You need to have a pincode, password or path-unlock security, otherwise you cannot access the network' (when you open the phone)
So the question: Anyway of bypassing it? I only want to move the ring to unlock the phone, instead of ALSO having a pincode, password or path-unlock.

Are you sure this isn't something to do with the Wireless encryption rather than security for unlocking your phone?

Pretty sure it has something to do with the network itself, but hope someone can tell me how to bypass it

If I understand you correctly, you are wanting to hack a WEP code? I would respectfully suggest that particular area of the forum is devoted to the HTC One X whereas your query would be better directed to a website that deals with security issues.

I think the OP doesn't want to hack.
@ OP: Ever tried opening up the browser, type in an address and then the security screen of the network appears so you can log in and probably even safe your credentials?
Elsewise I don't know either, sorry.

The problem is that the the OS requires a pin code to be set up in order to store the WifFi credentials.
So if you want to log onto the network you must set up a pin. I have this problem at Uni.
No solution yet.

On Android 2.3.x (in CM7 at least) there was the option to turn off this requirement. Annoying that it's been removed in ICS!

Hi,
I also face this issue when connecting to my office WIFI hotspot. But, after you have set the pin and then set the password to connect to your WIFI. You can disable the PIN lock in Security setting right away. It's just one-time setting.

Yeah. I removed the pin and stuff and now it still reconnects..
The only problem: I can browse the web, but cannot send mails. It keeps saying 'mail not sent'.
Any ideas?

It's more than likely to do with the exchange setup, I know at our offices we have the option to enforce encryption and various different things from the server before allowing people to connect. As to why it's showing when you try to connect to the wifi network, I've no idea. It must be trying to access the domain.

It has not been removed in ICS - this appears to be an HTC implementation.
I connect to the company 802.1x EAP network using PEAP and on my Galaxy Nexus there is no requirement to set a password/pattern, etc to store said 'credentials'. Only now that I'm trying this with my One X do I see this pop-up.
Yes, VPN credentials always required a password/pattern in ICS, but this ain't no VPN.

[Q] 802.1x and credential storage

hello all, im having this strange behaviour on my htc desire
i connect to my corporate wifi which is 802.1x auth
previously i was on android 2.2 and all worked smooth it automatically connect to the network everytime it was in range (it saved correctly 802.1x user/pass + credential storage in a way i didnt need to readd)
now that i switched to android 2.3.3 im still able to connect, but it is not an automatical thing, i need to reenter my credential storage password every time im in range otherwise im not able to connect; this could be ok if it would happen once a day, but since where i work there are lot of hotspot, sometimes i go out and enter buildings, i need to insert my "credential storage" password a lot of times;
it looks like a known problem, but ssems none had a way to fix it... any advice?
thank you

I have exactly the same problem - did you ever find a fix ?
A phone that needs a user-entered-password everytime it wants to use a WiFi connection is beyond useless
Sorry to post on an old thread, but I am having this exact issue since upgrading to 2.3. Was this ever sorted out?

Nope
I see a lot of threads complaining about this issue, but no solutions.
Is there any way to have the requirement for this password bypassed after a reboot?
Is there any setting, hack or app that will enter it for you automatically?
Failing that, is there any way to stop the phone continuously trying and failing to connect when the password hasn't been entered?
If I go into work having rebooted the previous evening, and forget to put this password in, then I sometimes pull my phone out of my pocket after an hour and find my battery down to 50% due to the constant connection attempts!
I've just disabled the WiFi on mine, and I use the mobile network instead.
As you've found out, if you don't do this then you'll find your battery life vanishes very quickly !
The WiFi is basically useless for 802.1x on the Desire.
backup credetial with titanium backup.... and clean data, after restore...

[Q] VPN on Galaxy Nexus

Is there anyway to setup a PPTP VPN connection on ICS without being forced to use a lock screen with PIN/password/pattern? VPN works but I don't want to lock my screen with a PIN.
This was possible on 2.x so why did they change it? Tried using a 3rd party solution like 1VPN but it doesn't even connect to my VPN..
I hate to bump this thread but I really need to know if there is a workaround for this. VPN is the only way I am able to access the Onlive servers to play.
Yea, I just came across this "feature." There has to be a way to disable it. I wish people would stop insisting on handling my security for me. I'm a big boy, I can do it myself.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
What's wrong with using a pattern? Its just as quick and easy as the drag to unlock.
Still haven't found a workaround.. a pattern is not as annoying as a password but it removes the quick access to the camera from the lockscreen doesn't allow you to use face unlock.
I've managed to muck around with the Settings.apk, and I've gotten it to allow me to configure and connect to my VPN without having to set a pin code on the lockscreen. However, it doesn't SAVE the VPN entry. Once you back out of Settings, the entry is lost and will have to be re-added again.
While I'm no stranger to line-based coding, I have to say I'm rather new to Android and I'm learning as I go. Lots of trial and error.
Hey, it's progress.
For those wanting to muck around themselves, I'm tinkering inside the VpnSettings.smali file -- specifically in the onResume method. That's where the check is to see if the Credential Storage is unlocked/locked/uninitialized. I can circumvent that check -- but I think the issue is that it's not ACTUALLY unlocked hence why the settings aren't saved.
Any progress since your last post? I got the same annoying issur.
I am also looking for this annoying "feature" to be overcome.
Just wanted to reply so you know others are also wanting credentials to be stored without losing the ease of access from the lockscreen.

+1. Wtf is the point of quick camera access if you're forced to lose it?

I'm also interested in removing this annoying "feature"!
I can't wait for the day this problem will be fixed! Annoying as hell!

[Q] VPN Setup on ICS

When you try to setup VPN on the phone ICS enforces a pin screen lock policy. Why the hell do I need to use a numberic pin if I want to use VPN, and to make matters worse there is no timeout on the lock so as soon as your screen goes off you'll have to enter the pin again. WTF, is there a way to bypass this?

I found the same for SSTP/IPsec/PPTP
If you can use OpenVPN, you can get around it, since it's 3rd party and not integrated into that stupid forced lock. I'd imagine someone must have fixed this in a custom rom? but don't know of any personally.
I've noticed that if you set up facial recognition unlock before attempting the VPN settings, that will work out fine. You can't add it after the fact though.
Personally, I just use a simple pattern. It's not terribly secure, but is just as quick to unlock as slide-to-unlock would be.
We attempted to find an answer earlier, but it died off.

How to avoid using screen security (pattern) and still have VPN connections?

I have this issue (I guess I'm really lazy but bear with me) that I don't really need an screen security measures like patterns, password, pin etc. but I do need to have some VPN connections stored on my phone and it's really annoying that Android obliges us to have an screen security to be able to store VPN credentials.
So my question would be, Is there any way to bend Android to our will here?

I've done it before, I cannot seem to remember how though. Something about setting a pin, copying a file with adb, guessing wrong password and using email option, then pushing a file with adb.
Cannot find the article tho, but this should work.....

Connect button grayed out when entering password for Wifi

Hey, I'm unable to connect to "eduroam" (my school Wifi) because the "connect button" appears to be grey when my username and password is written. I googled the web and found out that having a password of less than 8 numbers or letters may cause this problem. But this is not the case. I have Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC ONE M7, and both of them have no issues of such matter. BTW, I do use Wifi at home with no problem on my Nexus 5X. Any suggestions? M7 runs Android 5, while S5 runs Android 6. Nexus 5x is updated to Android 7 (bought it yesterday).
capitalization matters. If all characters are lowercase it will not accept it. check that you are not using a theme also. And if you have any apps that draw on screen (like messenger) close them temporarily.
My password includes capitalized letters, lowecase letters, numbers and is longer than 8 spaces. I'm not sure if I understand the "theme" thing. I use stock Android wallpaper and theme. I will check the last thing but I don't think it's the case since I tried restarting the device and entering password right after without any luck. Anyway, thank you for your time. Btw if I change "PEAP" option to "password" (if I do remember right) then the connect button becomes clickable. But I havn't tried it since it should work with "PEAP". Or so the school guide for Android smartphones tells that and HTC ONE M7 + Galaxy S5 works with "PEAP".
I had the same problem. Try changing the Phase 2 authentication to MSCHAPV2 and the CA certificate to "do not validate" At least those are the settings that worked with my network.
But then the connection will not be private? or it says so if I do choose your suggested settings. It's really strange that I can't use the settings recommended by the school and that works on other versions of Android.
Edit: It works if I choose "do not validate" option. But are there any downsides choosing this particular "do not validate" option?

Thank you very much! It worked for me
i need to revive this. had the same issue. changing to "do not validate" got it to work. didn't need to change phase 2 authentication though.
so 2 questions:
what does this phase 2 authentication?
and what does it mean that my connection isnt private then?
thanks!

You should not change to "do not validate". You have to download the correct certificate (e.g. from the webpage of university ) and install and it on your phone. Pay attention that you install it for wlan and not for VPN. When you now connect to eduroam, you can select the installed certificate. Hope this helps
The official solution is a bit clumsy, but better from a security point of view. Download the configuration app called "eduroam CAT" from Google Play. Then go to cat.eduroam.org to download the right profile, open it with the app, and tada! (And then uninstall the app which is no longer needed.)
