you cant root with unrevoked if you have 2.2.1, either revolutionary or alpharev to
s-off the hboot and then root it with superoneclick

Ok guys so.I'm trying to root my desire with .83 hboot using unrevoked because from what I read it works but it doesn't.
I get either " waiting for reboot " or "connect your phone..." am I right to assume I don't need a goldcard? My.networks orange uk
Is there any other method of.rooting .83? Except for unrevoked?

yeah, most guides state if you get stuck there to make sure the hboot/recovery drivers are installed.
Rooting my .83 was a breeze, i coulda done it on my head.
Do some reading on how to root an orange phone. HBoot 0.83 is easy as pie, Orange=PITA. At least that's what I have picked up from these forums, and as far as I know you need a goldcard.
Always make sure you read more than you need to before starting to change such an expensive piece of kit. Seems you missed some steps.
Well. I've made sure the drivers are installed. I even tried it with a Linux live cd.
My.question was is there any alternatives? All the tuts point to revoked.
No need to be a prick about it. All I asked was for help
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
unrevoked works best on a mac or linux machine, windows can have driver issues.
You have USB debugging turned on right? And drivers for HTC sync and for android devices you need to browse to when you connect it? Are you running as an admin?
Turns out I was wrong, people have rooted Orange handsets without a goldcard.
The reason your getting responses that sound like pricks is because all the info is there, people don't want to find it for you.
Second time I've posted this today (no I'm not advertising) search for Root My Droid they have a good step by step guide for rooting the Desire. Unrevoked definately works on Orange as I did it yesterday following the guide they have.
Make sure you have the options to install applications from unknown sources, debugging on and the default connection type as disk drive.
Thanks for the help. Ill try and give it another try. I've rooted 3 desires fine but this is my first .83. That's all. I did enough searches for .83 roots on google. Most of the other root methods were talking about .75 and .80.
Ill uninstall everything and try again with unrevoked.

I had hboot 0.83 and rooted it from my Ubuntu laptop with unrevoked without any problems. Easiest root I've ever done.
i dont have a hboot 83 but i did help a friend do his telus hb83
the guides i read up on stated getting sdk for the drivers and all sorts of other stuff
i didnt.
what i told my friend in short .missing from the guides.
install htc sync then remove the sync leave the drivers part.
download unrevoked and extract the refresh rar/zip.find and run the hboot html found inside and follow the instructions to install the hboot drivers.
Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to have another go at using Linux unrevoked since I think my windows 7 is probably playing up.
Again. Thanks for the help.

[Q] EVO root help, will pay money for the successful suggestion!

Just got my evo a few days ago. It seems to get it rooted is not so easy for me.
I upgrade from 3.26(hboot 0.93) to 3.29(hboot 0.97), and I tried something, like suggested by the page 38 of this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...highlight=root
no luck. the software stop at the screen " waiting for the device, plug phone in now and enable usb debugging mode, make sure htc sync is not installed "
Unlike other people easily get root from unrevoked, I am so puzzled... if anybody can give me a hand to root my evo... i will be very much appreciated. thanks!
I have charge only and debugging mode on my phone usb connection. Do i need to adb driver or some other drivers?
Here is basic info of my phone:
hardware version 0003
android version 2.2
baseband version 2.15.00.09.01
kernel version 2.6.32.15-ge2fb08e
build number 3.19.651.5 CL252548 release-keys
software number 3.29.651.5
pri version 1.77_003
PRL version 60671
Thanks, any word is appreciated!
do you have android sdk installed and if so does our evo show up if you look for adb devices in cmd?
Did you install the necessary hboot drivers from unrevoked's website?

Make sure u have ADB set-up on ur computer.
If not go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
(it says dat u need a rooted G1, dont worry about dat. this works for every windows computer out there. u just need a rooted phone to just confirm it works and blahblahblah)
once u do that, make sure u have ur Hboot drivers updated on ur comp, if not go here.
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
once u do that, rooting ur phone.
this is the only method out of all the others that ive seen, that WILL work for any Evo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
just read over everything, double check and make sure ur stuff is installed right and you'll be on ur way..
remember, DONT USE UNREVOKED! its been out-of-date and will f**k up ur 4G for good.

Not true...if you have the old unrevoked that was up briefly then taken down then yes that can mess up your 4g this was because there was a part in the unrevoked that did not pay attention to the RSA Keys specific to your EVO 4g.
If you use the current unrevoked3 and have hboot .97 or below you can use the one click method unroot method and retain all 4g funcitionality. I did it with my EVO two weeks ago worked flawlesly and I tested my 4g after with no issue running checks via adb shell and normal testing.
hboot= .97 or below you can use unrevoked3 one click unroot.
I HIGHLY recommend this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448

yes download the drivers from the unrevoked site and install to your computer. I think having the android sdk is good but not necessary if you download the drivers from unrevoked. I had to do it three times before it unrooted my evo using unrevoked. I unrooted another evo the first try. It will work if you have hboot .97 i speak from experience from 2 weeks ago.

Latest unrevoked and white evo

Myself and my wife both had black evos from launch day. I recently got the nexus 4g and she came back to the evo after trying the arrive. But this time she got a white evo with 3.70.651.1 with either hboot 2.02 or 2.10 I can't remember. But I could have sworn latest unrevoked worked with this. But at the end it says root failed is your firmware to new? what am I doing wrong now that I wasn't before? I know my replacement evo had 3.70.651.1 and hboot 2.02 and it rooted...
Any help would be great thanks guys
Go into the bootloader, select clear storage [factory reset]. Boot into the phone, enable usb debugging, make sure htc was installed at one point, removed when using unrevoked, install the hboot drivers, then run unrevoked.
I've done all that. If im not mistaking once you install hboot drivers once which I did in past then it should still work on any evo I root. USB debugging is on, it just says firmware to new root failed at the end. Is hboot 2.10 rootable with unrevoked?

She is going to have to get an older PC36IMG and let it downgrade in hboot. I have one that works but I am not on my computer that has it right now. I know there is a website you can find them one (the name slips my mind but I think it is like shipped roms or something?) Just get one of the older versions, update, and see if unrevoked works. (Just don't let the phone update before you run unrevoked.)

Just rooted two Evo's in the past week with no problems and they had all the updated firmware and software. Make sure you are using the latest Unrevoked software and try it on a Mac or Win7 machine. I get less errors on either one of them. Win7 make sure you load the drivers like previously mentioned

Reinstall the hboot drivers and make sure htc sync is uninstalled as it will interfere with adb commands. 2.10 is rootable, all evos at this time are rootable.
also dont forget apps like wheres my droid, lookout, antivirus mess with root process, also your computers antivirus will need to be turned off, because the root exploit is recognized as virus.
when you run the unrevoked file if on pc right click and run as administrator

[Q] USB brick - Pulling my hair out - Please help!

Hi all
For the last few weeks I have been trying to fix my HTC Desire back to some sort of working state. After awhile, I managed to get back to stock (from CM7), but soon realised I had the USB brick and SD Card issue. For info I used the stock HTC 2.3 Gingerbread RUU and used Alpharev PB99IMG_downgrade.zip for HBOOT (I was using Alpharev S-OFF with CM7).
So, I followed this guide, http://android.modaco.com/topic/309939-usb-brickrickrolledb0rked-fixed/ and managed to mount the SD Card. However, I could not get the update.zip file to apply because I was no longer rooted.
So I followed the guide linked in the USB brick article, http://android.modaco.com/topic/307...ide-now-with-hboot-080-and-os-to-121-support/ and soon realised that I did not have the HBOOT version required. Either 0.75 and below, or, 0.80 and below. I have 1.02.0001.
Not a problem, I thought. I will follow this guide to downgrade, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256 as it specifically says that "...the downgrade does not depend on any version of HBOOT" which is what I need. However, first step is to get a working Goldcard. This is where I start to get into trouble and I'm already losing track of what I'm doing, but I soldier on...
How do I create a Goldcard? I followed this guide, http://android.modaco.com/topic/305672-creating-a-goldcard/ and got stuck at running the ADB command as because my USB is broken, Windows 7 (x64) refuses to see the Phone. Luckily, my father has the same phone, so I put my SD Card into his Desire and managed to create a Goldcard (he is running CM7 on his Desire too).
So Goldcard in hand, I go back to the downgrade guide and then spot my next issue. I can't get Windows to see the phone to use ADB commands and I also can't get Windows to see the phone when it is booted up (the charge light won't even come on now), meaning I can't run the downloaded application.
Not to be outdone I went back to the Rooting Guide and tried both of the downloads with the "step1-windows.bat" command just in case they did work, but both give an error, which on searching, is to do with the HBOOT version being incompatible.
I tried putting on the PB99IMG_downgrade.zip file from Alpharev again, then re-running the HTC 2.3 Gingerbread stock RRU and taking the ROM.zip folder and re-loading it on to the phone, but it hasn't changed the HBOOT version. So my cry for help is.... how can I downgrade HBOOT without using ADB commands or having to have Windows detect my phone? I'm basically stuck with Fastboot and my SD Card.
Even though my phone looks stock, I can't call people as it disconnects straight away, the USB is broken and the battery drains stupidly quickly.
Thanks for any help!
now this IS a sticky situation.. well done on what you've done so far by the way.
On my guide there's a section on how to temproot and flash recovery without USB connection, then flash a recovery that restores usb functionality, but it's only been tested on 2.2 and S-OFF... could be worth a try though

Hi bortak,
Thanks for the reply. It is a bit of a strange situation I agree. I've been putting off signing up and posting for help as I feel quite dumb for breaking my own phone, but I have to admit defeat on this one.

you could call HTC and ask if they'd fix it for you, and say that this happened after you did the update.

I´ll have a try
just fixed my desire 1 hour ago and it works.
look at this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1296916
What I did:
I was able to connect my pc and phone through wi-fi and adb worked (adb connect phones-IP-address ) and then pushed, chmod'd 755 and executed zergrush. Gained root via cmd with adb shell in windows and after that I just pushed flash_image and mtd0.img to phone and ran it like you supposed to in the guides (chmod 755 and execute). Rebooted and voila! USB connection is working and now my phone signal isn't dropping anymore - phone fixed!
I fixed my unrootet Phone (official GB 2.3.3, HBoot 1.02, S-ON, USB Brick)!!!!
I wifi connected with adb and got temp root with zergRush!
Then from cmd in adb shell I flashed the misc with mtd0.img!
Rebooting and everything was fine ))
Many thanks to all of you!!!

[Q] A little help with Altel Desire

Hi everyone, I need a little help here, I tried searching and couldn't find anything. So here I go.
My friend has a Desire from Altel which is at 2.1-update1, and band 2.05.10.08.11
I am trying to gather information so I can root it for him. Like previously stated it is a Altel CDMA model stuck on 2.1 and I can't get the unrevolked to see the phone. what is the method to rooting this phone? Could someone point me in the right direction? Do I have to update it with the CDMA RUU version 2.36.605.1 from Verison?
Thanks for the help
Are you sure you have the correct USB drivers installed? If you dont have the usb drivers installed (or the wrong one), unrevoked wont be able to see your Desire. I thought Unrevoked needed custom usb drivers by unrevoked themself.
