CM9 On Screen Nav Buttons *updated for alpha5-1* - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Updated for CM9 Alpha 5-pre1
flashable zip this time
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8566596/CM9-PreAlpha5-NavBar.zip *note for alpha5-pre1 only*
[notes for simple disable]
Edit a quick way to disable this mod without reflashing rom is to edit your build prop
Add this line to your /system/build.prop: qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 and reboot
I use Rom Toolbox for this, make the changes, save and reboot. Rom Toolbox will save your original build.prop as build.prop.bak and you can restore it to turn it back on.

What can we use because I really need this... Can you gave me a file to enable it and disable it?
Thanks

That should actually work but it's from alpha 3 build and I have not had the time to do it again on alpha 4.

extract the zip get framework-res.apk
push to phone

adb remount
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework
adb reboot to restart phone *note my phone jumped to bootanimation screen right after framework-res.apk is pushed, didn't go past it, but adb reboot or pretty sure hard reboot gets you back in*
Other ways to install this is to replace this file into the rom zip and reflash or I'm sure you can edit gapps.zip to flash this also.
I had done this on my current framework-res.apk and it worked fine, then I redid it again from framework-res.apk from cm9 alpha 4 which I pulled from the zip. I have not tested but it should work.
As always make a backup first.

hey man where can I get the nightlies for CM9? havent been able to locate them anywhere?! even tried the IRC with no luck

This worked beautifully, thanks again

I pulled it out from the mtz file. Just rename mtz to zip and you should be able to extract the icons.

What changes to the framework-res.apk to enable this mod. Seems like it would be easier to just make a flashable zip that changes the necessary files and allows it to be compatible with all future builds.

Decompile framework-res/ res/values/bools.xml
config_showNavigationBar = true
And you can change the dimensions if you like in values/dimesions.xml. You may need to change the images if you make it to small.

I just prefer pushing the files but I made an update.zip for now. No way to make it work on all future builds due to framework changes in CM9.

If you make it too small you have to update the images in systemUI also I believe, I seen most do either 37 or 34

[MetaMorph] Gingerbread for CM 6+

I "ported" (very little work by me) Krispy's Metamorph for the GSM Hero to the G1, so that we may have a Gingerbread looking theme. I also included the animations and color folder from gingerbread which he didn't have included. The pictures are from Krispy's page, as they are essentially the same theme.

This changes the fonts, animations, and framework images to gingerbread style.
Use metamorph to flash this, and then use CyanogenMod settings -> User Interface to change the Clock, Date, and Notifications ticker to white.
Update 1.1: Added Krispy's changes.
v1.1 now has both animation- and theme-packages in seperate metamorph directories. That way you can choose whether you want those animations or not ... or just the animations Also it has cleaned up contactframes (aka they be gone now) as well as cleaned up waiting spinners (no more jagged edges there).

Update 1.2: Added Browser and Dialer images, and a few animation .xmls that were missing (none that will likely see)
Update 1.3: Added dark menus (when menu button is pressed)

What animations would these be, IE the orange light border when you hit the start/end of a menu etc.
Would this work on the Hero also, i thinking kind of yes :S

i'm not necessarily sure exactly which they would be. I used to have animations off, and it's been awhile since i've seen the old ones.
But for sure, the animations of when you unlock the screen and when a menu pops up are different.
Also when a menu pops up (flys up in a semi circle from the bottom right corner), the background fades out over a few seconds, that may or may not have been there before because I was never looking for it, but I think that's new too.
To answer your other question, this probably will work on the hero also, and probably any mdpi device that is running Froyo, but i'm not going to make any promises due to me not having a Hero!
As with Krispys Metamorph, installs the fonts but not the framework-res
tried it 3 times now, its strange some people can get it to work some cant :S

Interesting.. Metamorph needs 1 Root, 2 Busybox, 3 adequate space on /system, 4 proper naming. might be something else you need, but check all those. Try using Titanium Backup to re-install busybox
Also try applying the framework-res individually instead of Apply All, if you haven't do that already

I just compiled this and didn't have time to check it on my phone. So who ever wants to be brave can test it out first. It wont bootloop your phone or anything, but still.
Anyways make sure you make a backup before doing this. I didn't make a flashable zip for this so just do this using root explorer:
1. Go to /system/apps
2. Copy Systemui.apk and paste it on your sd card as systemui.apk.backup
3. Put the new systemui.apk on your sd card.
4. Copy the new systemui.apk to /system/apps
5. Press okay to overwrite the old one
6. reboot phone
Also make sure you mount r/w using root explorer before you paste or it won't allow you to.
Probably worth mentioning this is for deodexed ROMs only.
idk about that. Works fine for my phone and its odexed.
but this is for stock roms, as mine is stock. idk about custom roms.
Really? I'm new to things, so I'm genuinely curious, how were you able to make the change? I thought if you're odexed you have to deodex > decompile > make changes > recompile > odex in order to mod stuff.
If you're only changing xmls are you able to skip steps? You still have to decompile and recompile to regenerate resources.arsc, right?
Sorry, just learning where I can.

yea I wasn't sure about it either, but I just went and grabbed systemui from my phone, decompiled it, edited status_bar.xml, added images to hdpi folder, and recompiled it. Then used root explorer to replace the original systemui.
And ya you have to delete the original resources.arsc when recompiling. I'm learning as well and was asked to share this so I did. I'm not 100% sure if it will work for others but technically it should if it worked for me.
That's great to know. I've been deodexing and odexing every time I changed something. Now I only have to do it when actual code changes are involved. You just cut my work in half lol.
yea i think you only need to deodex when you modify the actual jar files.
I tried this mod but after adb push it my status bar was gone swipe down and nothing, tried root explorer and the same thing, I had to push back the original one.
I'm using this by the way, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282415
By the way I just read this:
I just compiled this and didn't have time to check it on my phone. So who ever wants to be brave can test it out first. It wont bootloop your phone or anything, but still. at 9:42 PM
Then in an other post few minutes later:

I uploaded my file now. The one that I have tested and works. The one I use. Meaning it will have the arch linux logo in the left hand corner.
If anyone that wants to change the logo to something else, follow the tutorial link in the original post. all you will have to do is decompile it and replace the logo with something else in hdpi folder and then recompile.
and yes that is my screen atm.
Still not working.

for those thatt are running the lockscreen/taskbar/overscroll mod...will flashing this taskbar break everything else? Id love to have this instead of the taskbar included in that mod, but with all of the other tweaks.
What is the process to just add this to a theme? I dont want my status bar to change from the theme I am using. I just want the clock in the middle. Anyone wanna let me know what the process is to do this by myself rather than using OPs SystemUI file.
Im running starburst rom v1.5
will all the status bar mods be lost if push this system ui? My noob thoughts are yes but not sure.
thanks in advance

[MOD] [4.1.2] Segmented Circle Battery Mod. 1% Increments. Based on 4.1.2 Stock

This is a Circle Battery Mod with 1% increments and a working battery charging animation. It has the segmented circle (as opposed to the solid, unbroken circle). It is based on the de-odexed stock 4.1.2
~~!! NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 4.2 !!~~
NOTES:
- De-odexed only (Though I've heard it works to over-write your SystemUI even if you are odexed, as always, perform changes at your own risk. Backup recommended.)
- Tested with the Factory/Stock De-odexed ROM by teshxx (found here)
- For STOCK based ROMs only. WILL NOT work with CM or other modified ROMs.
- Use on other ROMs at your own risk
- Mine is for the GSM model. If you would like one for the CDMA/LTE model, please go here. This one was for the Verizon model, and would not work on mine, but inspired me to make one for the GSM.
The attached zip should be flashable in CWM or TWRP, but I cannot guarantee anything. As always make a backup first.
EDIT: I've re-created and re-uploaded the .zip, and had a user report that the flash worked. Flash away!
If the flash STILL fails, please unzip it, and pull the .apk out and manually copy it into /system/app and reboot. Changing the permissions on it after copying would probably be recommended (should be rw-r-r).

Unfortunately I'm not quite that skilled, and am not sure where to pull that from. I'm quite new to modding and this was my first ever mod that actually worked.
But just to be clear, you are referring to the rotation lock like on the Nexus 7's notification bar right?
I flashed this twice and it didn't change anything. Do I have to enable it or something?

Shouldn't have to. It should overwrite your existing SystemUI and take effect immediately after flashing. If it's not flashing properly, try pulling the apk out of the .zip file and replacing your SystemUI manually (using something like Root Explorer or any other app that lets you see the root files of your device).

Hmm, OK. I'll give it a shot. The battery stuff is contained in the SystemUI.apk, but the rotation toggle is part of the framework. I'll see what I can do, but no guarantees.
EDIT: I've tried, but it's a little bit beyond my current knowledge. Modifying the SystemUI was child's play in comparison to trying to work with stuff in the framework. It may be a simple tweak once you get there, but getting there for me is the difficult bit. I can't seem to get the .jar extracted properly to find the .smali file required as detailed in the thread you linked. My apologies, I don't think I'll be able to get that one for you.
thanks. I didn't try to flash it over CWM, but copied SystemUI.apk to system/app. It works well.
Hi, I took the risk and pushed the SystemUI.apk to system/app on my stock OTA 4.1.2 and it worked! Stock ROMs that came directly from Google are odexed by default right? It seems to work fine here without problems.
Thanks for the share.. works great.

Interesting. Keeping the odex when it's unneeded shouldn't be a problem (I don't think so anyway), but I believe the problem comes in if you delete it when you do need it. So you should be OK.

I couldn't find any other that worked for the GSM that was based in 4.1.2. All of the ones that I found were either based in 4.1.1 or were for Verizon. So for me, yes it is indeed the first one that worked. And I learned something new in the process of making it work. Thank you, have a nice day!

I could build a ZipThemer for you, so that it will be compatible with any jb rom if you like.
EDIT: scratch that. Just tried & ended up with no battery. Lol. But being as stubborn as I am, I will try again.

[mod] Get rid of qslides in notification

Hi, this is a fairly advanced topic, I'm not providing a nice little cwm file for you to "apply" or "revert" so you gotta know what you're doing. Namely, you'll need to know how to type some commands via adb and be rooted.
I'm providing two CWM files that you can flash over odexed or deodexed LG Optimus G Pro ROMs. Simply put these in your sdcard, use the 2nd init recovery to reboot into recovery, then apply and reboot.
Props to mateo1111 and lv4n35. I used their contribution for "pointers"
Enjoy your reclaimed notification slide down real estate.
worked great, thanks!
i think i already asked but could you look into removing the at&t text from the statusbar? also making all the text color holo blue? i believe all of this is in the systemUI.
Worked on mine as well. Thanks for putting this together!

once and if we get the bootloader unlocked, then it would make sense to provide cwm files that you can apply and revert easily. if someone packages this file in a cwm file in the meantime that you can flash via 2nd init, then I'll post it in the OP.
Edit: found the time to push two cwm files in the OP

I pushed the modified .apk to /system/app using Root Browser. So far so good and QSlides are history. I renamed LGSystemUI.apk to LGSystemUI.bak, pasted in the modified version, set the permissions to RWRR and rebooted.

Correct. You have to be rooted and be using a root-level file explorer. (I like Root Browser Lite by JRummy Apps)
EDIT: This is what the permissions page should look like.

The demand for this mod is more than I initially anticipated. You guys made me feel bad :silly: so I'm providing two little nice CWM flashable files in the OP. This should now work on odexed or deodexed ROMs. Guys with international PRO variants, you can try these files too. Worse case is that you'll have to flash back to stock using LGFlashTools given that we have no recovery to fix stuff from a soft brick yet.

Thanks so much for all of your hard work! I figured pushing via file explorer was easier than ADB push (especially for people like me with little command line experience) so I decided to make myself a guinea pig and test that method.

It works in most cases but sometimes when the status bar UI restarts before you reboot, it might cause some corruption in the dalvik-cache and give you all kind of weird sh*t when you reboot. That's why I like to either do things in recovery, clean dalvik and reboot, or "stop" the OS, do my stuff in adb, and reboot. In any case, I just tested the cwm "hide" file in the OP and it works indeed It should be be pretty easy to flash this mod now.

Thanks. I created a flashable zip a while back with the folder directory.
The file will flash without any errors but when I boot the phone nothing would be changed.
Do I need to make a zip with the systemui.apk and not the file directory to change the folder inside the systemui?
I'm running a touchwiz based rom.
