Alright, so I have a motorola Triumph (already rooted, but that shouldn't count because Triumphs come prerooted) and I was looking to swap my service over to my epic 4g.
OK, so I know how to do that, easy enough. But clearly I'm stupid in some other aspects, because I go to root my Epic 4g to CM9 with the mms fix, and this comes up! And it won't let me do anything, it won't even show up in drivers! If someone could help me or at least guide me in the right direction, that'd be great, thanks in advance.
Oh, also I uploaded a pic of it, if it makes a difference.

You soft bricked it. You need to odin back to stock to fix this. Now either i can do this remotely for you shouldnt take to long and reroot you or you can wait and ill get you the stuff needed.
Or you can follow this youtube video i will post in a second here.

I gotta say, getting to the FC09 file was a pain in the ass, but I got to it anyway, gonna try it out right now. Thanks again!
Update: Urgh, my triumph cable won't let my Epic connect to Odin, I'm going to have to get another charging cable and try again.
This is what I use for data transfers and ODIN usage. The best I've found yet and crazy cheap for the quality.

i vouch for those cables. i only use mono price. gold tipped, ferrite core, heavy gauge, good shielding, inline fuse. everything you can ask for in a usb cable.
Hey thanks guys, honestly i was kind of clueless as to where I should look. Will be ordering tonight. Then I'll tell you how goes...

Sorry for the rant, but i was hoping this thing could be used on my desk to charge the Xoom and able to plug it into my USB port.
now I have to find a way to send files to it without removing it. BT does not work well and is kinda slow. Perhaps a wifi way, but still.. another little thing missed. I think I am going to stop buying moto accessories. the case that I got for it is such a pain.
/end rant
I'm also still waiting for the perfect accessories, i.e. a dock that has a port replicator on the back and a case with a built-in bluetooth keyboard.
As for the transfer I usually use Dropbox for smaller files. But not for movies for example.
I use SwiFTP, but still dumb that I have to go that route.. and its still not fast like it could be.
just dumb.. i mean, its a passthu.. i think i might get crazy and mod it.. but im not sure if it will work
i use the cifs kernel module with cifsmanager to mount my pc on my xoom to read/write files using windows sharing
works quite well, the speed is just as good as using usb
No needto apologize for the rant!

not really.. more then a few megs is just a PITA!
I just installed an FTP client and can do it over wifi, no cloud stuff.
still would rather jsut have a USB plug.. what gets me is that it plugs into the USB port, just no output!
Hey, guys. I am pretty much feeling like this is a broken USB port, but here is a quick run down.
Flashed up to an EG22 based ROM a while ago, and flashed the modem via odin. This was a WHILE ago. And have flashed a few roms since then.
Soooo, here is my dilemma: Somewhere along the lines, I have lost any kind of data connectivity. Charging works fine, and I have tried this on a few other cables (stock, and a Western Digital external hard drive cable, and one 24 dollar cable from radio shack - i was desperate).
So, I am figuring that this is a bad USB port. Stupid. In order to do an insurance claim and get a new phone (thinking about going to a Nexus S 4G, since it is this phone's "equivalent"... I think) I have to have this thing back on an EC05 modem, or else I bite the cost of the phone.
any ideas, guys? I did QBKing77's full reset trick, still on EG22. That was my last effort after flashing a bunch of different ROMs.
Thanks again!
Sprint won't care if your rooted. I bet they wouldn't even check it in the first place. Take it in. But first, get something really small (q-tip) and put some alcohol (isopropyl) and clean out the port with the phone turned off. This is a galaxy s problem, happens
There is currently no way to change your modem from anything other than EB13 without Odin or Heimdall. Sorry. Just bring it in.

I had the sameeee exact problem and did everything I could but my phones usb port was just broken lol
This is what I did
there is a rom that will make ur phone look like stock ec05
Its over here in the development section look for something like "stock ec05 refs rom" or something like that
But the thing iss that I was stuck on eh17 no eg22
But that rom worked for me
I'm not sure if it'll work on eg22 but hopefully it will just download it on ur phone and flash it and just give it back it'll look completely stock

I'm having almost the same issue here, as my phone can charge through the USB, but it won't detect it as mass storage mode (debug mode run well, though..)
I can run usb tethering too, but only the mass storage mode doesn't work..
I have try using another cable, going to other ROM, but still no effect, and now I'm using a card reader to read my SD card, which is quite lame.. -_-
Ok, so like...two days ago, I followed qbkings video on how to root & clockworkmod an epic with EI22, well it worked. I got recovery working A ok and played around with some roms and stuff. They all worked for the most part, but after rebooting my phone, the SAMSUNG loading screen wouldnt fade away, realizing it had been soft bricked. I tried recoveries but they didnt work. tried tutorial after tutorial after tutoria, but no luck. When trying the Odin unroot method It'd always be stuck on like a factory. file, and keep getting the phone - ! - computer error afterwards. Ive tried looking around the forums and such, but no go. I really need help with this.
You didn't look to hard. There have been 5 threads like this in the last 2 weeks. Go to the stickies, top of development and follow post 1 of How to restore a semi-bricked Epic.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Uh yeah, that was one of the first posts I tried. Never worked for me. Followed exactly step by step and repeated the process five times, but ive been constantly getting stuck on factoryfs.rfs
oh ****, now it wont even turn on. tried charger usb, nothing! no indicator or anything. damn. am I screwed?
I think you were better off leaving your phone alone. If following instructions is difficult, than that should have been your first clue. Id post a link to help you, but you have already read and tried it, and even that didn't work........time for you to buy an iphone I guess.
Sent from cyandroid
Try pulling the battery and sd card, let sit for an hour with usb unplugged, then connect to usb cable with odin running and try to boot into download mode.
If it goes, pop the battery in and load up ei22 or another odinable tar along with the recovery in qbkings videos. Make sure only reboot is checked in odin.
If not, go back and try every step in the sticky. I doubt that you have a problem that has not been experienced already.

So you tried buying and using a better cable? And tried with both the battery and sd card out using only the computer as a power source like the thread in Development said to do?

Sometimes the truth hurts.
I tend to agree with that sentiment, nothing against you OP, but there are some that gravitate to technology and feel at home, and then there are some that gravitate and lack the necessary skills for something like this.
This is a very straight-forward task, especially with all of qbking's hard work in making those very easy to follow videos, and other's time typing out tutorials, so I really fail to see how most have so much trouble making it work. Maybe they belong in the latter analysis.

Yup, Ive tried different cables, ports, no battery, battery but got nothing. I thoroughly read through the entire post and tried what was suggested and got nothing. Phone wont turn on or do anything. I'm thinking that i'm screwed. I have been thinking about getting a replacement epic for a while, cause some time ago I actually accidentally dropped it from my desk and this happened to it http://imgur.com/ZBlNn still worked fine, so I didn't really bother thinking about replacing it, but now I'm guessing that I have to. If I do end up requesting for a replacement, any tips/fore warnings about what I should say when I talk to the guys over at sprint before i end up mumbling like an idiot.

With the soft brick you might have been able to save it. It happened to my brothers phone and what I did to fix it was wipe everything, factory reset
Then flash stock rom. Wipe everything again
Then flash stock kernel
Wipe everything again
Then it was perfect.
If you had already been flashing roms.and such then your problem wasn't following directions.
You just might have flashed a rom without a supported kernal. Causing bootloop
As far as where you are now.. maybe tell then you dropped it and it never turned back on?
I don't think they can ever find out you rooted it if it never turns on again lol

Don't use the broken screen as the reason or they will charge you around $100. Just try and make sure you get across the point that its the faulty phone (even if it isn't) and make sure you have an accurate believable story on how it got bricked. If you mention anything about messing with root or anything similar they won't replace it.
True. But on another note you can't say much. Only other thing I can think of is saying maybe you tried updating the device and it died

For like the past day or two my phone has been running extremely hot and the battery isnt charging like it normally does. Now it charges extremely slowly, if at all sometimes, and no the contacts are not dirty. I Tried charging it using USB and also wall outlet, ive tried changing the wall "brick" used to plug in my usb cord to higher and lower amperage and voltage but same problem. Now back to the heat problem, Ive tried switching up ROMs, kernels, ROM/kernel combinations just in case it was a kernel and/or ROM problem and same thing. Both problems happen with my 3800mAh extended battery and stock battery. Please if anyone knows anything about this or has any help its well appreciated.

Weird, dude. Well you close to being able to safely assume its not a software issue. But before ruling that out completely I would Odin back to stock; it really does make a difference. Also, can you tell me where the phone is getting the hottest at? Is it just the battery or is it somewhere else?

They may not care, but I personally would try to get back to stock not to chance it.
Also, I most definitely recommend fastboot over Odin. The only time I would use Odin, is if my USB port died and I wanted to get back to stock.

I have an issue with my T999 and that is, I cannot connect via USB (charging or otherwise). I talked with T-Mobile and they're sending me a replacement phone and I have to send my current phone back to them. This is great, but what my concern is, the ODIN counter is at 8, but it is currently not rooted and no custom ROM. I read that if there is any number on the counter, it will void warranty, in which case, I will have to pay for the replacement. I read that I can reset the counter while rooted, but I cannot even connect my device to the computer to do so. I am only asking, because I have searched and could find no information to help me out. I feel that I am just screwed unless someone knows how I can root, reset and flash without USB connectivity.
Thank you.
Do you have CWM or TWRP recovery? If so, it's quite easy. If not, then I'm not sure of any way to do so.
Have you tried other cables or on a different computer?

This is true. If I find something, will surely post in here. Also, would like an opinion. My phone is going back due to a hardware malfunction, not software. Is it a possibility that the counter won't even be an issue?

If they check it, it will be an issue. This is why so many have major problems with this practice. Rooting the phone, or flashing a rom has nothing to do with a faulty usb port, speaker wiring, loose button, etc. But they can and have refused warranty claims for this before.
Like I said though, I have seen plenty of people claim they got theirs replaced and the counter was tripped. So apparently they never checked it. But on the other side, there have also been people who verified that their claim was denied due to the counter.
If you have insurance though, such as Asurion through Tmobile, this doesnt matter at all. You can flash it, drop it, kick it, drown it. light it, and then throw it across the room, and they will still replace it, minus deductible of course.
I have seen where a few people have replaced the usb port on their phone though. The part is probably pretty cheap, and if its an easy replacement, you may want to consider it.

OK. I get that. I went to a T-Mobile store yesterday with my issue and was told that, if there was an issue with the warranty, I would have to pay $110 (I currently do pay for insurance/protection plan through T-Mobile). The man who looked at the phone said that it looked as though it was just damaged by a faulty Micro-USB plugin, and said that in his opinion, there should not be any issues as far as the warranty goes. That is why I was wondering about the counter and if that would impact it. But the insurance I have is through T-Mobile, and on that note, I should not stress too much about it? I receive the replacement phone as early as tomorrow, in which time, I will send the old one back, where they will inspect the damages and come to their conclusion on whether or not I will have to pay, or if everything is covered. I have found a couple of wireless ADB connections for the phone, but it has been so long since I have rooted the phone that way, that I am just going to take my chances and hope all goes well with the exchange process. Thanks for everything!
Please let us know the final outcome.
If you filed through T-Mobile it's going to be warranty. If you went through Asurion it's insurance. Insurance has a $150 deductible, so either way it sounds like you're better off using warranty.
