Hi, for the past few weeks my phone has constantly died at 18%.
I've tried resetting battery stats in recovery, I've done this when the battery is empty and when at full charge.
I've changed ROMs, a couple of times recently, always doing a factory reset, wiping everything available in recovery. No change.
Is there a trick to correcting this or could it be a fault with the battery itself?
Cheers.
Try this calibration instead : http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=723

There are a lot of calibration methods, but in the end, if none works, you should probably have to buy another battery. It happened to me, died at 60% or so. Well, with so much flashing and flashing it isn't a surprise, is it..
I think this is one of the cheapest offers. handtec.co.uk/product.php/2763/htc-desire-official-battery--ba-s410-

This method actually works, I had to use the detour but I got it done eventually!
Came from Runnymede 6.1.1 ROM and the battery calibrator wouldn't take the first 6 times.. It would just tell me that my battery age was 100% eventhough I found that quite hard to believe, since my Desire is already 18 months old..
For that reason I flashed Cyanogenmod and did the battery calibration on that rom and it worked! After that I just flashed runnymede back with droidzones kernel22 and now my phone shuts down at 0%-1% instead of 15-16 like it was before!
Definately advice you to try out this method!
Thanks to theGanymedes and others for sure
Is the desire not supposed to shutdown at 15% anyway as a form of protection? All these calibrations do is change the numbers.

Quote from what RootSu told me when i asked this question on here before.
"It's because Li-on batteries break if they get down to 0%. HTC set their phones up to shut down between 10-15%. All phones with li-on do this.
However most phones show that 10-15% as 0% but HTC tend not to.
There is an app called nexus one battery calibrator, which if you have the correct kernel, will change that 10-15% to show as 0%. Obviously, as it effectively turns 75% into 100%, it appears to drain faster. It's not
I don't know if your kernel supports this. The general tab in the app won't have any numbers if the kernel does not.
There are some complex settings needed in the app and a specific process to follow if you wanted to do this though"

I know this kinda cliche. But please help me out.
I got a second (third or fourth maybe more) hand Vogue. The previous owner said that the battery should last about 3 days. But I've been recharging it 3 times a day (for a 24hours standby).
Please note: My backlight is on level 1 (the darkest) most of the times. No Bluetooth or GPS at all. Only light phonecalls and sms.
I've done all the tweaking and stuffs. Activesync only when connected to PC. Battery settings to save. I got a new battery. Nothing work. It barely last for 12hours (with the new battery). On a power off (not stand by)... it goes down 30% over a night. I don't know what's draining my battery.
I'm suspicious that the OS is not original from the sprint. I don't know is it cooked or not. But it still WinMo 6.1.
Please help me... Let me know if u need infos.
This is what it says on my Booting Screen:

Do you know what programs you are running?
If you are talking about the task manager, it's empty.
However, I did try to hard reset it and I have this theme (thundering sound on boot, wallpaper of lightning strike tree) and a few programs (TCPMP, Total Commander) still in my HTC. I have no idea if there are more differences. Oh, I didn't have the HTC Cube. Have the FTouch Flo but not the Cube. I did install it later on.
Please help me. I have no idea whats draining the battery... I'll appreciate whatever help I can get.
If you're suspicious that your ROM isn't authentic from Sprint, and your battery is draining quickly, I'd say it's time to ditch that ROM as it's suspect.
(As per the norm, back up your data first.)
You can download the latest ROM for your device from HTC's site. Hit them up, grab the latest ROM, and flash your phone. Once finished, let it set up / customize, and let it charge fully. Also, make sure you connect to the internet and browse for a bit using Sprint's ROM, to set up the Carrier's Data Provisioning. Also, test out some GPS functionality.
This is the bone-stock Sprint ROM, so if you want to test battery life, this is the place to do so.
If this resolves things, I would highly recommend visiting NFSFAN's 6.1/6.5 thread, and downloading (as of right now) 6.5 v7. It's easily one of the best ROMs available for any phone, period.
It seem that I have been evading the inevitable...
Thanks for the tips. I'll need to find a way to flash it safely as possible.
Thanks a lot
anyone kind enough to direct me to the latest ROM on HTC site? They keep directing me to the South East Asia site... and the don't release Vogue there. Or is it possible to throw away the the custom ROM without reinstalling the whole thing?
This is what it says on my Booting Screen:
M 03
B 01
P DCAAXOM-4350H
R. 3.42.30
D 3.09
you can get the original Sprint update here http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=76&act=sd&cat=all

regardless of where you live I would suggest flashing a stock ROM first just to make sure its at a step one state, stable and normal before flashing a custom ROM
But ... if your thinking of flashing to NFSFANs ROM - go HERE and read up on the FAQ for it as well as a "how to" as to flashing a custom ROM

Thanks for all the advice. I flashed my phone with NFSFan and let it stand idle for about 6 hours (no tweaking yet) and the battery still goes down about 50%. Thats the same as it was... Well I'm trying the tweaking anyway. Is it defective?

it's prolly just time for a new battery.
one other thought, if you open the batter cover,
on the battery it should say a number and then "mAh"
For example I have 700mAh
which is like the smallest battery, and you're suppose to get like a 900mAh from the factory, but I got ripped off from the phone store.
But basically the higher the mAh the bigger and longer the batter will last.
The battery says 1100mAh the same one with the original. It lasted longer than the one I got before. But isn't it suppose to last about 3 days? Dang! I'm afarid to use anything because of the battery. I'll try to exchange my latest battery with the new one and hope for a longer life.
Btw, done more tweaking and still the same.

On average, I get about 17 hours (mostly in "standby") from the 1100mah battery. Lately, the battery has been going dead sooner...
I purchased a 2400mah battery and back cover for about $15US a while back. I went back to the factory battery for a while, but kept the larger battery in my backpack. After not using it for a couple of months I pulled it out last night (when the 1100 battery was about to die) and it still had a full charge! Going to use it again for a while...
US$15 for a 2400mAh battery with a back door? can u direct me to the website?

One more thing,
How do you recharge your phone?
Many people, NFSFAN himself included have noted that charging through USB from your computer takes longer, but holds the charge quite longer as well.
Give that a shot if you've been doing the wall charge thing.

It's only for the TouchPro.
i installed nue2chem's dynamic clock and sett everything a bit lower to the lowest. Didn't do anything noticeable on the battery though... installed the power driver for titan/vogue but don't know what it's doing exactly.
However, I charged the battery with usb last night (on a power off state) and ask my huband to pull it off when it's done. He said that he pulled it off around 2am. And I turned it on around 7.30am and found that the battery is 96%. What a revelation! Usually it will take around 30-40% even at power off.
I hope it can do better at standby mode
well ive been flashing my desire for so long, never had any problems not even with the ics roms...but lately its been rebooting ever so often. ive tried changing the roms, even stable GB ones, kernels, switching between batteries ( i have two), the phone sometimes just shuts down even with 34 percent battery......
what should i do ? If I should run an RUU then which is the correct one ? service centre is not an option. i S offed with alpharev long back. Is it a hardware fault ?
i just dont want to give up on my desire not yet.....
thanks

During time all batteries lose their capacity but usually kernel of rom can't track it. First you can try with battery calibration (wiping of battery stats from recovery), but I don't think that it will give you much.
I recommend you to try flashing some kernel with full battery calibration that is suitqble for used batteries, foe example some Droidzone or Alex kernel.

Yes, its PVT1. My phone reboots even when its idle.
My Desire has been very patient with me and I did feel the phone overheating many times after certain flashes on certain roms.
i just wanted to know what I could do to make the situation tolerable.
I guess what most smart people do at times like these they RUU and sell off their device at the earliest signs.

Even when the phone is idle periodic google background wireless sync keeps happening. That could cause overheating problem I think.
Hi,
I have been having a problem of battery.
1. Battery dies from being 100% overnight.
2. Phone randomly shuts itself having more than 40% battery but shows 0 battery when it restarts.
3. Phone restarts quite frequently when taking a picture. (once a week)
Please let me know what should I do to solve the problem. Thanks in advance.

I've got the same drain problem as your number 1, but not the other 2 issues. The funny thing is it only started a week or so ago, before that it was fine. I've been running the Viper rom, and Faux kernel without a hitch for over a month up until now.
I used to get a day out of the battery, and 2.5-3 hour screen on which was fine IMO, but not anymore.
I'm wondering if a recent app update has caused the issue, just speculating though, also it seems to be that the drain is happening when I'm not using the phone, when I do use the handset for whatever it uses the battery as normal.
Not trying to hijack your thread, just thought I'd give my two pennies worth as I'm having a similar problem.

You seem to have a lot of applications running and something is keeping your phone awake. Any awake time when the screen isn't on also is an application using your phone.
Go to the play store and check the permissions of your downloaded apps, any app that has the permission to keep your device awake is a candidate for your problem. Uninstall them all and your problem should be gone, re-install one by one and see when it returns.
Regards
Phil

Also, don't stick them altogether into one pic, the board shrinks it massively. Just upload them individually

Looks like it's the radio causing the majority of your drain. How is the signal in your location? I see you've switched from EDGE to 3G during the screenshots... if the 3G signal isn't great then it will cause battery drain searching. It might be worth forcing your phone to either 2G or 3G only and seeing what happens.

Actually I just switched to 3g in the last couple of days. I only had 2G previously and the problem still occurred. Its funny that it happens only at night.
I think its the time for a fresh start. Format your phone and start all over.
So, how much will it takes you? Less than 3 hours? I'd say go for it.
At lest it would give you less headache and hopefully more battery.
Good Luck

Hi Guys,
I have spent days researching this, and have read dozens of forum posts, but nothing has worked. Here's the problem- I bought a used GNEX off of Craigslist. The phone looks great and seems to work well. But, it won't show a charge beyond about 70%.
I thought the battery might be the issue, so i bought an a new OEM extended battery, but the new battery didn't make any difference. It still won't show a charge above 70% no matter how long I leave it on the charger (with the phone turned on or off). I have done probably 20 discharge/recharge cycles, but nothing changes.
Next, I bought an external charger. When I fully charge the battery in the external charger and pop it in the phone, it still shows around 70%. So, it is definitely an issue with the phone (not the batteries).
I've also tried four different ROMs, as well as all the black-magic "battery calibration" tricks found in the forums, but nothing helps.
I am totally stumped! Is there anyway I can fix this?
Thanks!
Slim

try an app named "BatteryCalibration" by marosige. When opened it shows the in circuit battery voltage. 3600-3700mV is to be expected from a well charged and in good shape battery. We seam to be having the same issues with mine having progressed to showing 0%. I have a recent thread here as well. I have read that the recovery battery stat wipe is just for the application level, but I think there must be a file or setting somewhere that maps mV to %'s and that this is what needs wiped/reset.
Anyone overhere still having issues?
I updated my thread on a similar if not the same problem, and am looking for some volunteers to help gather a little data. I would like for one or more persons to install SL4A and python, run a script and report findings. If you are willing please post a reply in my thread.

Hi
'Noob' here, be gentle, please.
My original Desire is 2.5 years old. So is the battery that started playing up.
It didn't last long and the phone kept suddenly switching off at about 50%. I guess it's a pretty common problem: Htc Desire Shuts down at 40-50% battery
So, I've bought a new one, "aoonen".
The new problem is that it stacks at 15% when charging.
The LED light turns green and it shows in the Status: Battery status - Full, Battery level - 15%.
Sometimes after plugging out an back in it starts charging and shows 16-17% for some time, but soon it stops and shows 15% again.
If the phone is switched off, the LED turns to amber and remains amber, but the battery seems not to be charging as the phone remains cool and it's the same 15% when switched back on in few hours.
It's original HTC charger and cable, but I did try other cables and PC USB ports to no avail.
Factory reset did not help.
Neither did booting to recovery with wiping all caches and battery statistics.
If I replace the new battery with the old one it shows 100%.
Android 2.3.7 installed by my son (I am no expert in this) in Nov 2012.
Kernel 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-g2a32ab1 [email protected] #31. I still have cm-7.2.0.1-bravo.zip on the SD card and used it for the recovery.
If it's of any importance, before buying the new battery I tried using some apps (uninstalled now) that didn't help: Battery Calibration and Easy Battery Calibration.
I like my Desire, I fits all my needs and I am very reluctant to replace it.
Will be grateful for any ideas and advices.
you deserve credit for researching your problem thoroughly .

It was mentioned somewhere as a good brand. And what's the point in faking/counterfeiting some unreputable brand? This was exactly my thought that a 'genuine' battery is far more likely to be fake.

no, i've never replaced my original battery after nearly 3 years now probably should, so can't give any recommendations as to where to buy one.
it's a minefield, but be thankful that it's relatively easy to buy a replacement, unlike some new high end phones.
calibration should only be done with proper apps, this is the only one i know of that works, you have to find and follow the instructions carefully, though i've never done it myself. my battery still dies anywhere in between 15% and to 6%, which i can live with and just gotten used to. however if yours is dying at 40-50% it's likely that it's aged beyond its working life.
cwm is short for clockworkmod, he is suggesting you wipe battery stats there, but this myth has been debunked for a while that it does not calibrate the battery in any way.

Some user says there: "You must read the tutorial on XDA if you want this to work. Follow it step by step."
Anybody knows where it is at XDA?

Real calibration is done by:
- wait until the battery is completely empty and the phone shuts down
- insert a charger immediately but leave the phone OFF
- wait until the phone is fully charged
This worked perfectly for me!
