[Q] Can't download from Market / play store - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK have rooted my phone and never had an issue. Now all of a sudden I find I can no longer download from the Market / Play store? This started last week when I downloaded the new skygo app - (Only to find it doesn't work on rooted phones)
If I use the play app - I can visit and search but when I click download and accept I just get a message "Error while downloading purchase".
If I sign into the market on my PC, my phone is showing, all previous apps are showing, I can go to the store and download - but nothing happens, the app never arrives.
Currently installed apps all update without any issues.
Running: Redemption1.0 -Alpha4.0

Already cleared app data.
Have updated the ROM to Alpha6.0 and still no dice.
Any other ideas?

Did you change your LCD Density (DPI) to a different value? The default is 240 and the Market does not always work if you change this. If this is your case then try this
clear the market data and cache
set the density back to 240 (i.e. edit system/build_prop to have ro.sf.lcd_density=240)
reboot
use the Market to update everything (hopefully it works)
set your density back to what you want
reboot

Did you use the BlackICE Icetool app to change densities? If not then you need to manually clear the Market data and reboot. Depending on your country you may need to use something like Market Enabler to pretend you are in the U.S.
Also, the newest versions of Play Store seem a bit better

Yea use Titanium back up and freeze the market updater app. After that reboot device and problem should be fixed! Good luck!

"Not Supported" message
I'm having an issue with the Market (Google Play): About 70% of the apps I look at in the Market tell me "Your device isn't compatible with this item".
At first I thought it was a botched ROM flash (tuesday -new beggining) so I did a full wipe & reloaded the same ROM; same issue (about 90% of apps gave that error).
I recently loaded Paradox II (the 3/05 release) and did a full wipe as directed (flashed the wipe util's that were posted). Before restoring any of my apps I checked the market for the paid ones I use that were installed while on the rooted factory ROM (like MyBackup Pro) and got the same message. Some of the apps that "weren't supported" when on the Tuesday ROM were all the sudden supported & downloadable.
I had all apps backed up with MyBackup Pro and installed just the apps (no settings) using the BusyBox option. Every app worked just fine & market links restored but when going to market to update one of the installed & working apps, it'd say not compatible.
Thinking this was a market issue, I uninstalled the updates, cleared data/cache, and installed various versions of Market (including the new one) that were talked about in other threads about Market errors... did not fix it.
When going to the Market on my computer and looking at apps that are installed or were installed pre-custom ROM, it has my SGH-T989 grayed out. I checked build.prop and couldn't see anything with the device identification that looked wrong.
This is preventing a lot of my installed apps to not be able to be updated... Any ideas as to what is causing this? Did I fubar something when doing the first custom ROM flash?
Here are some of the major apps that are saying they are incompatible:
Adobe Flash Player
Astrid Task
Documents to Go
Dolphin Browser HD
DropBox
MyBackupPro
SuperUser

Is there a list of these files anywhere that you know of? I ran in to an issue a while back on my G2x when doing something similar to this after a failed theme flash.
Under system/app I have marketupdater.apk but nothing else...
/data/app. Mine is called com.android.vending

Update on this issue...
I cleared the cache/data for Play Store, uninstalled updates, turned off data, cleared cache/data for Market, went through and deleted all Market related apps/folders:
data/data/com.android.vending (folder)
data/data/com.android.vending.updater (folder)
data/app/com.android.vending.apk
system/app/MarketUpdater.apk
system/app/vending.apk
- I reinstalled the last version of Market that was posted on goo then let it update to Play Store. This resulted in more apps being "compatible" but still had quite a few coming up as "incompatible" (that I had installed & knew worked on the GS2). After further research I found a scenario on another Samsung phone that the lowering the LCD Density caused this same issue. After setting it back to 240 & reinstalling the Market again, the issue was resolved...
I would love to lower the density again but don't want to mess up the Market. Does anyone know of a tweak that will allow this (I'm thinking a build.prop mod)?

Google Play issues with 241dpi

This is ridiculous. The Market used to work perfectly with 241 with a simple procedure. Now with the temp method, (reboot into 320, clear cache, diasble updater, reboot into 241 etc), it works for a while then apps starts showing as imcompatible.
With the modded vendor file for the latest Google Play, some apps I get a error msg saying "the item you were attempting to purchase could not be found."
Not sure what to do.

So it's ridiculous that the Play Store doesn't work properly with a hacked DPI setting? You think Google should provide testing and support for every single hack you want to apply to your advice? Get real.
I find the market to work fine with a DPI of 200, 220, 240, I have no issues with not being able to download apps. I use 240 as my default DPI.
Return to stock, reboot, clear market cache, open the market click accept then go back choose 240 DPI as stock, reboot, clear cache and open the market. It should work just fine.
What ROM are you using?

Or purchase LCD Density Modder Pro and this will solve your market problems with unsupported density's.
Google just began rolling out a new market update which lets you view reviews in categories. So this is prob your issue. Wait till you get the update then a new hack will start working again.

Aokp. Yes with 240 its alright. 241 gives the issue. But I use it since its fixes many things more than it ruins

Its funny because the last error msg I'm talking about has been reported at stock densities.

Google Play keeps FC'ing

Anyone have this happening on their glide?
I tried all of the following:
- clear data
- clear cache
- wipe cache on boot screen
- delete and reinstall the apk.
- 3G only instead of Wifi.
When I reset everything, all works fine until I try to update an app and that's when the FC's begin
The google play apk I have is v3.5.15
Is this what you guys have as well?
I'm seeing few other posts on other forums, but no solutions yet.

Try reselecting your Language in Settings > Language and Keyboard, after re-selecting, a media scan should occur, then try launching Market Play Store
no luck.
Damn that sucks bro. I had 3 updates and i updated with no problem. On both my KF and Evo 4G.

okay last one that i think worked on me before:
- turn off internet first, then uninstall updates on Play store
- reselect language again,
- turn data/wifi on back, wait for Market to update to Play store
I'm using Stock Rogers ROM but the phone is rooted.
I've had quite a few calls missed recently (doesn't even ring), so i think i think i think I'm gonna give it a factory reset.
maybe take a gander and some of the new custom roms out there now as well.
Wow that was painful...
Did a factory reset and GPlay still FC's
Did a full factory reset + Wipe USB and SDCard storage and GPlay still FC's (v3.5.15)
I now have found a tool that allows me to download APK's from Gplay web site and load them manually onto my phone, until Google can fix their latest version of Gplay which has affected others as well.

I flashed back to Rogers Stock a few days back to replicate your issue, but until now, my Play Store is still at v3.4.7 and no FCs. I am still investigating for I got this one before but solved it with just uninstalling updates and re-updating...

Cool how do you do this? I have a cousin of mine that has the HP touch pad with Cynagen Mod installed on it but when he goes to the store a lot of apps say not available for you're device. So then he asks me to get them and backup my app with Astro and then send him the apk. If he used the tool you use he would not need my help.

Google play store missing apps :(

Hello,
For the past few days some of the apps display a message "Your device is not compatible with this version of the app" or are plain simple missing from the store. Below is a list of such apps:
1. Bank of America - message displayed
2. Flipboard - message displayed
3. Trickster Mod (free version) - missing
Any inputs or ideas?

Yes.
Actually, I had changed it to 300. But then someone asked me the same question. So, reset it back to 320, rebooted the device and tried. Same results... .
EDIT: Checked a few more random apps in the store and facing the same issue:
4. Ninja fishing
5. Super SU
6. MD5 Checker
Not really sure but I would try to download an app that is compatible & try the one that aren't again. Maybe clearing cache & data on the Play Store would be worth a shot(?)
Could be many reasons, custom rom issue, region issue, dpi issues, build prop issue.
Clearing data seems to have done the trick. Thanks a bunch!

Play store and incompatible apps

Hi all
I'm currently running imilka's unofficial cm10, I'm loving so far.
Only issue I've identified, at some point something changes with the play store, I seem not to be able to install 80% of my apps.
As an example, I have Google+ installed but if I browse to the play store and select it, Google play says its incompatible with my device even though its already installed.
This is the case for about 80% of my currently installed apps.
I've tried to force close and clear cache for the play store app but when I restart it I still can't install apps.
Can anyone help ?

I've always had a density of 240
Not to worry, I factory whipped and reflashed, that fixed it

I've never had this problem until now, I think its an issue with the new JB gapps. Can't be sure though.
I have had this problem a couple of times with PA ROM (Utaka's build) and everytime i get the issue I have factory wiped and it fixes the issue. I now always fact reset so I can clearly identify if it is a bug in the ROM or not. Cheers
play store doesnt support much dpi, if u changed dpi, it affects, to resolve, download and flash the dpi modded play store
