Hey guys just picked up this desktop dock for the galaxy nexus with hdmi out (sold in the states as the Galaxy Nexus™ i515 Multimedia Dock) from the guys at mobileciti for $55 from the store and also available from expansys for $48, also not to be confused with the nexus multimedia dock with the pogo pins
First thoughts on the dock is its nice sturdy weight and construction once you place your phone in the dock coupled with the full rubber base, its firmly safe and you can rest assured it wont tip over or slide around on your desk.
Whilst it is a firm fit it is not difficult to remove and place the phone, something to note there is a gap between the dock and back cover when the phone is docked whether its there for a reason or not im not too sure. (ok so after playing with the dock in the past few hours ive come to the conclusion that the 1 - 2mm gap is for the loudspeaker aswel there is a square indent at the bottom of the dock where the loud speaker is situated on the nexus)
It features the usual micro usb port for power at the back (note: the micro usb port is for power only, you wont be able to use it to sync with your computer, although on some sites it advertises as charge and sync reviews on expansys confirm it only charges. no sync!)
On the side sports a hdmi connection, for anyone who has used a mhl cable this dock works differently to how the mhl and nexus operates, with the mhl cable any activity on the phone was displayed on the connected tv, with the hdmi dock it is only for playing videos and streaming eg youtube when your phone isnt playing any videos a android wallpaper is displayed on the connected tv whilst you still have full function of your phone it wont be displayed on the tv
my only gripe so far is the lack of a 3.5mm jack and the 3.5 on the phone is obviously not accessible when docked, making it absolutely impossible to get audio out, as appose to the gs2 dock that comes with a 3.5mm and also having the phones 3.5 jack still accessible whilst docked
The video playback is great there is no lag and transition is smooth
Side by side with the gs2 samsung dock they make a great addition to any desk

I think it is pretty stupid that you cant sync up with your computer with the micro usb port.
Good review though!
Didn't see it mentioned but does it have a 3.5mm headphone jack on the other side? Doesn't seem like it does, which would be unfortunate.
Thanks for the review!
I know you mentioned it's for video, just wasn't clear if that was the only option.. are you saying it's not possible to display phone activity to your tv with this dock?

I'm also wondering if it has the 3.5mm jack. The Amazon page says it does, but I want to verify.

I still wondering what the point of those 3 gold pins are if Samsung isn't really using them, but I guess you can't get HDMI out of them, only through MicroUSB. Still I wish there were more accessories that used those 3 gold contacts.

I'm wondering if there's a difference between the dock the OP reviewed (I believe it's GSM?) and the dock for the LTE/Verizon model. Samsung's site also specifies that the portrait dock for Verizon does have an audio out port but some youtube videos of dock for the GSM Nexus show no audio out.
Anyways, I ordered one from Amazon (I have the LTE/Verizon Nexus) and should be expecting it by next Wednesday.

I have a quick question...I have this dock and plugged it in to my TV to watch something on netflix. When the video came up though it was turned sideways as if I was looking at the phone portrait but screen was in landscape. It wasn't watchable. Do basically I have an expensive charging dock right now. Anybody else have this and/or know a fix?

im really not sure how that happened the dock usually does a pretty decent job at displaying portrait to landscape on the tv
does it happen with youtube and videos or just netflix?

Hardware vs Software decodification
Hi everybody,
I bought an original Samsung HDMI dock aprox. one month ago and it mirrored everything from my Galaxy Nexus, using 4.0.2, but when I recently updated it to Android 4.0.04 the HDMI just output video, like youtube, but main important issue, it doesn't output all videos.
When using MX Reproductor it doesn’t output any videos to my TV trough the HDMI cable, but if i change to VPlayer I can watch the video on my TV but only if I choose Hardware de-codification, becouse if I switch to Software de-codification I again can't watch the video on my TV.
Is there are anyone how can give a clue here?
Regards, Roberto

Found this after Samsung couldn't answer a simple question about the correct pin-out of the 3.5mm plug.
http://pinoutsguide.com/CellularPhones-P-W/samsung_galaxy_vidout_pinout.shtml
I also found these and ordered.
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/STELLAR-LABS-24-9767-/24-9767
It should work for the Captivate without having to switch the connectors since the pin out should be the same..I'll have them next week..

Nice. For $0.21 plus shipping, if you don't mind changing the Red for the Yellow, get this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003V8UB4I (see my customer-supplied photo)

Thanks..but I really do mind. One of the reasons I went looking is to find a decent cable set with the correct pin out being used so that I didn't have to swap one of the audio connectors with the video to get the video to play properly. I have/had already read where folks were doing what you do suggest with i-pod cables and camcorder cables, and many of those same folks having artifacts induced and showing up on the bigger screen.FWIW...I was also hoping to get this information from Samsung..but they didn't have it to give me when I called this morning..in the Galaxy section..or their electronics section.I put the link to the pin out there for those wanting the correct wiring sequence.

The artifacting comes out because the pixels rendered for smaller screens (i.e. on our Captivates) are unnoticeable until they're enlarged on bigger screens. I guess some people are so used to watching HD signals on their HDTV sets and when they see something non-HD, it's not good enough.
As for our Captivates, on my setup, it's fine. I don't have any signal loss just because I'm using a camcorder cable. It's not HD by any means. It's, what, 480i at best? As for the wiring, it is wired correctly. The plugs are just mislabeled (for use with our Captivates) LOL
I love this feature on our Caps. I see that the HTC Incredible had just come out with their USB to TV cable version which I'm sure is more expensive than this $0.21 cable!

My understanding of it is as to how it is encoded.I understood it to be 720x480p so..in essence wouldn't that make it HD..

There you go. The iPod folks, not having HD on their phones (I think), see the artifacting because the videos they watch are probably not HD quality.
BTW, 720x480p is not HD. HD starts out at 720 (on the horizontal aspect). That is, 1280x720.

Thanks..either way..with the quality of Blue Rays and DVD's videos I have trans coded and have on my phone I don't want any artificially induced artifacts showing up when I push it to a larger display.A better cable with better connectors will help..What I am watching isn't some crappy you tube downloads..or poor quality sdtv broadcast..Also I'll be using this cable to connect up to my Integra 9.8 for home viewing..so I'll be able to utilize a fine HT system for it every now and then too..
Mac
there are artifacts because the cable can only handle about 320x480 (less than dvd but better than vhs) do to the encoding. its an analouge signal with color and brightness handled at different frequency ranges. pushing more resolution through the encoding blurs the image.
there are additional artifacts because video cables for what ever reason (im not an engineer but i have few ideas) are a very specific impedance 75ohms or something, google it!. and using an audio cable with near zero impedance in its place causes artifacts! i can tell you this from experiance. it will cause artifacts even if the signal is at the correct resolution.
it is rumored that the micro usb to hdmi works on the epic but does not yet work on the captivate. i dont know if it ever will but we can all hope!
dnla is cool for movies at home but doesnt work for travel unless you bring a second dlna device. dlna also doesnt work for gaming, a bluetooth remote and hdmi cable is a killer combo for travel but as of now it doesn't work as far as i know.
Well..the video didn't work properly. All I got through it was torn badly. Audio worked good though. Called them this morning and got a refund..shipping included.
You know..we have their top of the line multimedia phone..and AT&T can't supply you with the correct cables to do the job..Kind of frustrating to say the least.

Yeah, it's too bad they don't have all of the accessories. But I can only guess it's probably because there's less than 1% of the Cap users that will be doing A/V output on their phones. With a number that low, they don't want to waste valuable storage space or inventory control whatever. (Just guessing)
Get the $0.21 cable and just plug the red in the yellow jack, and the yellow plug in the red jack. White goes with white.

Yeah they need all that space for the iphone accessories that apple makes them carry.
Though with the coach ending and apple considering a cdma version and stocking ipads in verizon stores the iphone accessories don't completely obtain my local store any more, now they are pushing thee windows phones, att must have something against google. They seem to support yahoo. Maybe why t-mobile gets all the google experience phones.

I bought the cables from a post earlier in this thread. The ones for $.21 from amazon, and no matter which way i put them all i get is a gray scrambled screen. I can see bits of my phones screen on the tv but barely recognizable.
Hey mac, those regular super cheap ipod video out cables are correct. The pinout is just a little mixed up but like everyone else has said you just need to swap the colors out. The phone can push out 480x320 at best through those cables. You are pushing a video signal through a composite video connection. Composite video will never be able to carry a high definition signal. And yeah you'll see artifacts. You're stretching a 480x320 resolution to your high definition TV's resolution maybe 1920x1080 if you have a 1080p TV and on top of that you're carrying the video through an analog connection. No matter how high quality the cable is you cannot carry a good enough video signal for a clean picture.

That's strange. Try another TV. Or, make sure the cable (both from the phone and to the TV) are plugged in tight. If you have a skin or a case protector on your phone, it might be preventing plug from going in all the way so maybe there is a leak from the audio to the video. Mine works fine as you can see.

I have not received mine yet. I am going to make one of them work in my car. I like the idea of sliding it into a cradel instead of having to hook power and the 3.5mm audio out to my car. Seems like the best option currently. Not sure what the three contacts on the side do. Do they would do audio and power?

Na the 3 prong on the side is just for power but it does relieve a lot of wear and tear on your usb slot. I saw the modded one of the original tmobile one and it looks pretty good.

Sure would be nice if someone made a car dock that used the side pins for charging.
Carrrrrnut. Thats the same one I bought. It works great for audio streaming.
I've never used a dock that was SO FREAKING HARD to get the phone in. I've gotten used to it, but it's virtually impossible to put the phone in without the power button getting pressed and bringing up the power options menu. It's kind of annoying. It's also kind of a pain to get out of the dock. Since you can't grab the sides you sort of have to squeeze the top edge of the phone to pull it out. Sometimes I'm afraid I'm going to damage the screen. I think the dock played a part in breaking my power button, even though I know it's an issue with these phones in general. It's just a really poorly designed dock. I don't know what they were thinking. Nevertheless, I have two of them and mounted one in the car to charge, use Navigation, and bluetooth audio. Wish there were some more choices though...

Correct. It is a real POS, and I don't recommend that anyone use it. I jacked up my first phone pretty badly, using this dock. It killed my power button after a month of docking, and the added pressure to the seams caused dust particles to pour into the top left-hand corner of the LCD layer.
Absolutely miserable piece of hardware. Shame on T-Mo for the design. What's the point of creating a phone with docking pins, and never using them? It's the whole reason I kept this phone over the Nexus S. I still can't believe no solutions have come along.
The lady the store literally told me they were pointless.

They do/did!
http://www.skinandcase.com/products/T%2dMobile-My-Touch-4G-Docking-Station.html
On the T-Mo forums some have purchased this before it was withdrawn from the market and apparently it had quality control problems, some didn't work, some worked perfectly and some worked only after disassembly and re-soldering.
Too bad, it's the perfect dock with a perfect price. Who knows if it'll ever be available again.... <sigh>
I wish I'd bought one, soldering a wire that came off in shipping wouldn't be a problem but I didn't and now they're gone. Oh, well......
I wanted to share my results of trying the Samsung Infuse Car Dock with my Galaxy 2 Epic Touch. It is an Epic success

I have included a video because there was a number of people that were concerned about the stability, holding power, and the ease of docking and undocking on a dock that was not designed for our phone. As you can see, the phone goes in and out of the dock with ease one handed. It also sits in the dock well tight enough to support the weight of the attached Mac Mini. The package includes the dock, it’s stand as well as an adhesive plate for mounting on the dash if desired. Although the dock does allow you to plug a power supply directly to the dock, the power supply is not included, which is pretty much the norm. The dock also has an audio output port, however when I tested this the audio is not rerouted to this port and comes from the speaker of the phone. The workaround for this is to plug the audio in to the headphone jack of the phone itself, which this dock does accommodate for. Last of all, as you can see from the pictures, the dock does have the proper cut outs for the speaker and camera on the back, so in theory you can always video your driving habits
Members on this Forum are reporting that they are picking up this dock from their Local AT&T stores for about $18. I purchased mine from Amazon HERE for over $30 and am very happy I did (though I wish I had found the $18 deal first).
Pros:
Easy to use
Does not require attaching power to the phone like a universal dock would
Hold the phone very well with little vibration
Cons:
Audio out from the dock does not seem to work with the Epic Touch --> UPDATE: As pointed out in the reply below, the audio out on the back of the dock works just fine if you adjust the settings.
Thanks for the review and pics!
BTW, the current price at AT&T online is $17.99 +tax, free 2 day shipping.
Link:
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...ails/?LOSGId=accessoryBucket&q_sku=sku5190308
The best price for the epic touch specific mount (from a reputable source) is still $39.99. Good amount of savings in this deal.
Audio out works you have to go into dock settings from the main settings menu and check audio mode.
Wanted to add more pros;
Bluetooth routes to headset instead of speakers if a call comes in
Media volume stays at last set instead if lowering once plugged in
Screen stays on instead of timing out.
Thanks for the review and video!
Order mine from att
Thanks walord!

Well crap nobrakes, that was my only Con Guess I could complain that it is not FREE
Thanks for that. Very nice. Using the dock with a profile manager it is so simple to have the phone charge, port audio, turn up brightness to 100%, turn up media, turn on blue tooth, turn off WiFi, turn on screen tap audio, turn on GPS, and auto launch Slacker all just from docking the phone.
I ordered a 2nd one and an going to try to mount it on my Motocycle.

Profile Settings <-- Works great. Will enable/disable auto rotate if that is what you are looking for.
BTW, I set it so my phone also now auto connects to my Nissan's Built in Bluetooth Hands Free system. And as was pointed out, when using the dock, you do not have to unplug the AUX cable when a call comes in for them to hear you.

Just went to the AT&T store to pick up an Infuse car dock... rang up as $17.50. The sales guy tried to sell me the desktop dock as well. I asked how much it was, so he scanned it and it rang up for $0.01. There's a bundled discount when you buy both together. So I paid $17.51 total for the car dock and desktop dock.
thanks for the tip OP, car dock works great! Desktop dock is a little snug, but it fits.

Wow, thanks for that info! I bought the car dock yesterday, but will go back and see if they will retro the combo.
Picked up the car dock a few days ago after reading this thread. Great quality and design. Love it. Not perfect, but I've gotten worse for 2x the money.
Question: are your phones running HOT while plugged in? Unplugged temp on my phone runs about 80°F. Plugged in runs maybe 85°. Even if in a garage (not in the sun), this dock is getting my phone up to about 115°, I've seen 120+ in the sun. I think the issue is that it's reading the dock not as a simple charger plugin, but as a media addon (sorry - I have no idea what to call it. I hope that makes sense) and is maybe constantly running background processes, even when just used as a charger. (I'm not running ANY apps - no nav, no audio - it's simply plugged in, same as if I just ran a charger from the lighter). (Stock, non-rooted phone)
Just curious if anyone noticed this, or thinks they have an explanation. I'm just concerned about operating temps for when I DO run Nav and it's 110° out. (SoCal)
(All that said... off to ATT to see if I can add on that desk dock for $.01 without too much arguing and hassle.)
I've only used my Infuse car dock once since I got it, and noticed that my E4GT was very hot when I removed it. I used it for Google Navigation and the ambient temperature was only in the 60s F. I only drove about 30 minutes, and I suspect that another 30 minutes would have caused it to seriously overheat.
I had the same problem with the Evo in the official HTC car dock. It would get so hot that the charge light started flashing and it stopped charging. I blamed that on the 100+ degree Texas summer days, but now I wonder if there is a correlation. The E4GT didn't get that hot, but it felt like it was close.
Hey guys, has someone a fitting dock for the Captivate Glide?
AFAIK there is no official one, but maybe the dock of another, more famous, Samsung phone does fit the Glide also.
Greetings Alex22
Unfortunately, I think we are in lack of luck with the µUSB port on the top. This would constrain to put the phone horizontally on a dock with the docking on one edge.
This must explain the lack of docking station on eBay unlike the batteries' charging stations.
One alternative may be to reproduce this SGS mod : http://www.qianqin.de/2011/09/18/samsung-galaxy-s-wireless-inductive-charging-mod
But I don't know if it is possible with our Captivate Glide.
Here is 1 from Philips http://www.techradar.com/reviews/au...-systems/philips-fidelio-as851-1042940/review unfortunately our phone would be connected upside down. I wonder if there is an app that lets it work upside down?

Back when I used CM for the HTC Dream, I always had the option to enable the screen to rotate 360°.
So I guess it's a ROM thing, but definitely makeable.
But anyways, that's a pretty hefty docking station, and with nearly 200 pounds it's nowhere near my budget.
Lets just hope there'll be more Android Dockingstations to come.
@EMegamanu: Thanks for the link, pretty interesting that you can mod a phone like that. But I'm too afraid and too inexperienced with solderings to mod my phone like that

This looks cool the Dock Boss allows you to plug your android phone into any Ipod dock:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-20110799-251/dockboss-plug-android-phones-into-iphone-docks/
OK I doubt it allows you to control the Next track and play/pause but it should charge and route the Music to the device. It plugs to your phones audio connector and the Micro USB to charge.
Here is another dock that looks interesting uses a cable to plug to an android phone so it does not matter where the connectors are located. It also has a nice little Remote:

I like the docking station from thinkgeek. The Price is okay, the design as well, the only thing that I would nitpick about is that you can't just put the phone into the dock, but have to connect both headphone and charging cable to hte phone.
Otherwise than that it's worth the weight for me.
You know, it's a shame that our phones seem to have a cult following almost. Many people don't seem to know about it either. Samsung did great, especially since keyboard phones are going the way of the dodo, and I use a keyboard for gaming and texting anyway.
My only complaint is that there's no hardware camera button, but that's not a deal breaker in the least.
Really missing my Milestone dock.....its the only downside to this phone I can find.
I hate fishing for charging leads

The keyboard and the availability on my carrier made the decision for me. I do a lot of emailing from my phone, and the keyboard is just faster and more precise than even Swype style input options for me.
I did at first miss the hardware camera button from my old WinMo LG eXpo, it was very nifty, but it's not even an issue for me anymore. Is that a common thing among Android phones?
the galaxy s vibrant comes with a charging dock that uses the same corner usb connection. Unsure on the thickness of the phone in comparison to the vibrant though.

Well, I bought one to try out. Wasn't much, only $10 from eBay with the packaging or $13 new. Oh, I'm using a stock AT&T Captivate Glide on the latest update.
Physically, it's fine. Smaller than it looks, actually, covering about 9/10 of the length & 4/5 of the height. The depth is a bit more fudged, covering only the lower half of the slider, leaving the screen half hanging. The main issue is that although the plug is 95% on target, the 5% means you'd have to add a spacer to raise the rest of the phone up a bit. But it definitely attaches without trouble. Nice & compact.
EDIT: Driver: the charging works, though considering it didn't a few hours ago, I'm not sure what changed. Ah, the connector is a tad longer than what fits, so perhaps one must jiggle the phone a bit to get it to work? Though I tried that earlier, too....
Software/driver side is a flop. The Samsung Desk Home application from the marketplace (the generic one) doesn't work. So yeah, no automatic launching or sound out of the dock's line out. It's odd, since the settings has a dock setting in the settings, so something should work. I just wasn't able to find out what. I suppose the dock might have an identifier & the phone isn't coded in?

which docking station did you get? that is 1 thing I don't understand with samsung, why do they make the micro usb connector on the top of the phone? It should be on the bottom, this would be simpler for docking stations to connect and less cumbersome having a wire to conect all the way to the top of the phone.

My mistake, I forgot it's difficult to locate. Here's the Galaxy S used version <ebay.com/itm/OEM-Samsung-Galaxy-S-i9000-Multimedia-Dock-Home-Charger-/150629639833> & new version <ebay.com/itm/N-OEM-Samsung-Galaxy-S-4G-Multimedia-Dock-Home-Charger-/160616869990>. If you go through the store, there's the Vibrant & Galaxy S versions, but I'm not sure there are any differences.
Being a horizontal dock, your issue is not applicable, though it's certainly understandable.
Oh right, the clock application already has a dock function, but it doesn't activate upon docking & I couldn't get it to reroute the audio. It does prevent the screen from turning off, so I guess it's not too bad.
Hi would this work with the glue as a basic dock? not sure if the plug is in the right place for this mobile,
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Gal...UTF8&colid=2AOM2U1G0O9ZJ&coliid=I9O547D7LLW3P
if not aren't there any Samsung accessories that can be adapted for a dock to charge or hdmi out here's wishing lol.
Atb
That is the amazon location of the dock I reviewed. Everything I've mentioned should apply.
I guess glue would work? As long as it's completely dry, naturally. I used three thin nails in three rows, taped down. Not the prettiest, but at least it matches the blue led.

Hi Thanks for that, where's the link to your review and why were the nails used just to stop it dropping forward of the front of the dock, were there any other mods needed to make it work.
Thanks
Paul
The review is spread over two posts, two & four posts above my prior post with pictures.
I used nails as a spacer as the micro-USB port is a tad bit high. Everything else worked well, though the phone electrical connection to the dock may be finicky at times.
I currently use an ihome desk lamp. The glide sits rather well in the ipod dock, but I have to supply my own power. I was eyeing this the other day too http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ec56/
found it! SGH-i927 HTPC solution
here's what i think we've all been looking for:
this should be all you need to use your Captivate Glide as HTPC (or just use the dock on your night-table/desk, whatever)
iBolt™ MHL Streamer Dock - Black
http://www.fommy.com/view-full-page.php?divid=Samsung&model=Samsung+Captivate+Glide+SGH-I927&cat=Cradles&skuno=94753
the only actual dock i've found that's listed as compatible with i927, and it comes with cables! i am SO getting that one of these days...
(actually, the compatibility list is quite large, i'm guessing just about any device with MHL will work with this dock)
i happened to find this site about an hour into googling for a glide dock... they have the widest range of sgh-i927 stuff i've found:
http://www.fommy.com/samsung-captivate-glide-sgh-i927.htm
and that's the only place i've found that sells the iBolt dock...
couple that dock with a Bluetooth kbd/mouse combo; something like this:
CE Compass Bluetooth HID Wireless Keyboard Mouse
*edit*
THIS little thing is AWESOME:
http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/wireless-touch-keyboard-k400
I picked one up on sale at Office Depot. Works GREAT and even has a home button.
After using this on windows pc's, android tablets and android phone (USB OTG), I HIGHLY reccommend it to anyone looking for a keyboard with integrated touchpad.
two finger scrolling in windows and android works great.
in case you don't have an hdmi monitor, just an HD hdmi to dvi adapter for ~$5
(if you have to go DVI, chances are you'll need an audio cable to connect to your audio device. for example, my tv is older and doesnt do audio over DVI, but the DVI input has RCA audio inputs right beside it; so i would use a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
Or you may want to run from phone headphone jack to audio line in on your home theatre audio receiver.
Chances are if you need seperate audio cable, either 3.5mm to RCA or 3.5mm double-ended cable would be what you need.)
so that's about $100 to use your phone as a desktop computer or HTPC as well.
I can't wait to try this on my 60" DLP tv....
I bought the n8010 yesterday as my current android tablet is starting to feel sloow, a ViewSonic 9.7" single core that's about 2 years old.

The Note 10.1 does have HDMI-out (but the cable is still like $40 even from china)
I do agree on this point, I want a Smart Dock for my Note 10.1
There are quire a few nice keyboard-cases, especially if you dont mind wireless (if someone would make a dock connector that pointed to the side instead of down we'd really be in business...)

Sadly the HDMI comes and goes, there seems to be a wave of tablets and phones that have a dedicated port, then a wave that dont and we're currently int he "dont" wave...
That was something I did love about the TF101 - the keyboard dock with USB, SD, Battery, AND charger... I havn't seen another tablet (baring super-high-end "convertables" running x86 or x64 chips) that has a keyboard dock like that...
Also just to point out, afaik, you *can* get a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 keyboard and use it with the note. Dont know if you've looked at those but I'm told the docking connector pinout is the same for both tablets so their accessories are interchangeable.

Well....... it does work, I just tried it. You have to find something that is in stock. The HDMI adapter is out of stock and it does not show the discount for things back ordered.
One other thing the item has to be under $50.00 bucks and the code is case sensitive so copy and past the code.

I've heard random reports of occasional stuttering on 1080p content with Wireless streaming, how's it working? (Trying to figure out the best way to get media from my server to my TV - Allshare, Android-system-on-a-stick (running Plex client) or STB like Roku)
Yeah, the whole lack of HDMI out is a bummer, but quickly forgotten when you can use a media dock for the original tab 7 w/o the guide.
They run about 8 Bucks on ebay .
That and Bluetooth peripherals= business, in.

You won't be able to, unfortunately. The way the video works on our tablets (and many other Android devices) is there's a "Video" output, and an "Overlay" output for secondary video (like Closed Captions, some subtitles and things like buttons and menus), and the "Overlay" output is just as it says, overlaid onto the main Video output before being displayed by the LCD panel. Unfortunately, the video the AllShare Cast (and IIRC, the HDMI output) is only the main "Video" output. That's probably done for DRM purposes, as if you could read the main Video output, it might be theoretically possible to copy movies (it'd be a slow, and dumb-fsck way to do it, but so is Hollywood's paranoia).

I have the tab media dock mentioned here and the allshare cast dongle that I use on my note. When I connet to comcast xfinity player the wireless dongle displays movies as normal but when I connect to the wired media dock I get this message "Please disconnect the secondary output before playing video". This must be a block from a paid service account as video files played from my tablets sdcard play normally when using both dongle and dock.
Just thought you would want to know before purchasing one.
Does any one know if this condition is the same for other online video broadcast sevices like Hulu and Netflix?
Thanks.
(Xfinity player is my cable tv providers app that lets you view there on demand movie and TV content on your android devices when conneted via WiFi)
.
I have not tested streaming a movie but all my movie rips some which are at 1080 look great but using dice player seem to make the difference and if anyone knows how to get cc working please let me know..i try using bs player in software mode and i can see the close caption but the video quality suffer and there is a lag..but to be honest i am very happy with samsung wifi hub ..its really cool to be able to watch without a hdmi cable..and i use amazon prime and amazon has a great customer return policy..i freakin luv amazon prime..

I actually want to say it's an artifact from an older time, much like how sound used to be encoded into the edges of movie film...
The difference is "Hard Subs" vs "Soft subs" hard subs are encoded directly into the video - same as if you had taken a pen and written it on every frame of a movie. Soft subs are software controlled and in many instances will not play through a combination of video format, player, hardware, etc (trust me this is the bane of my media experiance because I love to watch Anime with Japanese audio and english subtitles) the only way to be 100% sure is to set up the hard-subs (which will have to be processed on a PC - I think you can do it using Handbreak, but I'm not sure)

I use this dock with my Netflix, Hulu, and VUDU account with no issue. Haven't tried with Crackle yet, but I suspect it'll be fine.
Don't use that service too often anyway.
I suspect if you're using something involving Comcast, you're gonna run into walls like that.

Maybe its my TV.........
I will have to try a free subscription to Hulu or Netflix to see if I still get the message.
.
What I'd like is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sharon-Aluminium-Integrated-Bluetooth-COMPATIBLE/dp/B007XTJUKC/ref=pd_cp_computers_0
with built in USB and HDMI - which would turn my Tab Note in to a proper little laptop
If only.
Unfortunately our proprietary connection allows one or the other at any given time. So if you want HDMI to pass through, forget about USB interface & vice versa.Super bummer, but such is Samsung gnote 10.1.
I know the note 2 has that ability with it's dock, which blows my mind. I mean, why offer it to the note 2 and not the full size 10.1 tablet. Madness.
