Suppose this belongs here rather then anywhere else, its a question after all and I'm not releasing any thing so its not really relevant for dev section. I have decompiled systemui.apk and I'm looking to change the nav bar height. What XML and line am I looking for? Im looking at...
res\layout\navigation_bar.xml
and possibly ...
'android:layout_height="40.0dip"
But not sure on the exact lines, possibly all of them?
Any clues would be much appreciated. First time dabbling in editing files, so all help welcome before its FUBAR
TIA

I could be wrong on this but I think it's not just the nav bar height that would need changing. If you change the nav bar at all the os window would then be of a different size so this resolution would need to be changed as well.
Perhaps look at what was done in the mod for removing the nav bar completely see if you get any clues.

Its Because of AOKP that I want to do this! I've been spoilt! I would like the option to change the Nav bar height on ROMs that don't have the option. In this case, Gummy 1.0 so it looks like DIY is the best way

I'd really love a transparent status bar and navigation bar. It looks like this has been done here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1388554&page=12
Unfortunately this does not work on 4.03 and in addition there are differences between LTE and CDMA so the mod would need to be LTE specific in my case.
Does anybody know of such a mod that exists? I've searched high and low. Thanks!

Thanks for the statement, now you mind sharing the info....gotta screen shot, where's the mod? I assume you're running the GSM version?
me wantz this too.... !!!!
Works for me on 4.0.3 - you need to put in some work yourself if you dont want the percentage battery, tho. ROM needs to be deodexed afaik.
Frysee, Is that a flashable CWM file? and does it work with LTE/Toro Nexus? Thanks in advance... Realy looking forward for this mod.
Will this work on revolution HD 4.0.2? Also can toy flash it through cmw?
Would love to know if this works on the CDMA nexus as well, specifically running Axiom 2.4, with battery percentage and search button in nav bar enabled
Is there something with only the clear Navigation bar? I dont want to mod the status bar
does this work on gummy rom?

I'm on milestone 2 and it has softkey mod also. Idle on rootzwiki did for me. He is awesome. He has others posted too with softkey mods built in you should go look. He may be able to custom make one for you like he did me. Here's a pic.

softkey mod is easy as long as you have the PNGs.
hmmm. maybe the notification bar and navigation bars are also just a couple of PNGs?
can anyone point me in the right direction? I think I can do this myself if I know which files to replace

Idle has then built into one mod. So get the transparency plus choice of different softkeys. You can ask him how he did it.

I tried to do the mod with apk multitool and decompiling the systemui.apk myself last night but I kept losing the nav bar and not bar, then I tried to do Idle's mod and I still kept losing them despite it being built for AOKP m2, so if you figure out if its just a png replacement let us know!
I been at this all night; couldnt get it going at all...just kept losing everything. And here I thought I just didnt know what i was doing. Let me know if anyone figures it out.
Thanks
i know theres a great thread for softkey mods and an awesome wallpaper thread, but is there a thread thats dedicated to status bar icon images that can be flashed via metamorph?
not yet, no

i like the stock icons designs. i could just go for color options that custom roms already have
This is what I been thinking of when I saw the nexus color dash soft keys. Not sure If some one could do something like this

Edit #1 : ok, i think i figured it out...hopefully...here it goes
Edit #2 : no good. does anyone have a metamorph file for just the status bar icons
Edit #3 : giving another go. forgot to name the icons to the proper name :-X
the wifi icons are a bit on the large side... and i dont have every image in there so i certain times it looks funny cause another icon kicks in. anyone know of any more complete sets?

Is this possible?
A few roms gives you the ability to change the color but is there a way to make the background completely transparent? Would look pretty dope.
Sent from the future.
Would be good but a problem may be, that if there is a button on the bottom of a certian page, lets say eg. the next page button. The nav buttons would overlap
And you wouldnt be able to press it. Thats my theory anyway, but what do i know lol

The nav bar background would still be there just invisible to the eye.
See-through, not completely gone. At least how I had it figured out in my head lol.

Then i dont see why it cant be done thinking about it, aokp has a transparent status bar mod i think, so nav bar should be possible.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I don't THINK it's possible without a lot of clever scripting. From what I can tell, the status bar/nav bar UI "displaces" the drawable screen area. So if the nav bar are present, it nothing is drawn behind them. If they're not present, stuff is drawn, where they go, but uh... they aren't present.
So it might be doable with some trickery, but as far as I know nobody's done it yet.
It's possible and been done many times. There's a thread about it in the themes section.

I just stumbled across this thread. The issue is that its not just simple status bar transparency. That's easy, and it's already in the settings menu in ROM Control for AOKP. With MIUI though, you can have the status bar as totally transparent when viewing the launcher/desktop, but it's not transparent, or it's semi-transparent when you are viewing apps like the browser or when viewing the lock screen. So the question is, how could one implement different status bar settings for different views as it is implemented in MIUI?

I was really just trying to find a way to implement a clear status bar on the desk top/launcher on GB aosp roms (specifically, on decks reloaded.) I wasn't so concerned with the status bar in apps, browser, etc. I've tried uot kitchen which was mentioned above, but wasnt successful. as to why it wouldn't work, I don't know.

as i said in the pm's i really think its the way the statusbar is incorporated in the rom, best bet would to be ask in the rom thread that way a developer could give the right answer instead of me guessing at it.... lol im guessing the thread you found didnt work either?

Yes there is. Google search pvyparts battery bar. He wrote an app that does this. Only downside is that u have to edit ur systemui to get it to work. Since every rom is different its hard to make it flash able due to didferent systemui.apks. this is the battery bar mod I added to my cm9 rom.

we are actually talking about the statusbar and making it transparent. in reloaded there is an app for the battery bar and is simple to adjust. but in the rom it has a ICS-like statusbar (all black with the ics-blue signal bars and battery icon and what not). What atljatl is wanting is the entire statusbar to be transparent. Like in the miui and some sense roms that have had the flashable zips to make transparent statusbar.
Gotcha. That is a simple mod in the systemui.apk. just changed either the icon or xml backgroubd to transparent. Again I'm mobile so can't do it fir u right now but will when I get home if ud like

Yup...As much as I'd like to use CM 10.1 I won't just because that option isn't there.
I mean isn't anyone bothered by how big and a space waster the default navbar size is (goes foe stock, ofc) ?

Could be... And didn't think of that!
I set it to 30 of the value offered (dpi?), or PA's tablet mode in 192 dpi which is of course too small. But I really can't accept the wasted room in my case, but good point you are making.
You can simply hide the whole bar using a one line build.prop edit, and use LMT (similar as The Pie) to emulate the hidden buttons (and much more). I did.
See?
