Multitasking - HTC One X

I have noticed sometimes that when I use the multitasking button and switch tasks, the apps seem to restart. I am not sure this is normal. Can anyone help with this or is it just me?

Same here. I suspect that is how android works.

I have had other Android phones and I am sure thats not how it works. I could be wrong though, I went to Windows Phone for 6 months or so and forgot how Android works. Just getting re-acquainted.

Maybe you check this out.

Thanks for the answer but it made no difference
I wonder if it is something to do with either the number of background activities or the time they are in the background as sometimes muti tasking works as I would expect and sometimes apps get reloaded. Odd.

I'm pretty sure that this is how Android has been since the Gingerbread update.

Amaaazing screen off app!!!

This free app lets you turn the screen off by waving at the proximity sensor near your earpiece! No Widgets to press! Just the swipe of your hand!

A lil thanks if you like it will be appreciated ;D
The idea is nice but beeing left handed it triggers accidentally too much for me. Works pretty sweet though. Wish the prox sensor was on the right
Be cautious... Just tried playing with this on CM7 #B30, and almost couldn't get it off my phone. Also, didn't appear to work properly (I'm guessing its a Gingerbread issue). Not sure if these results are typical, but I had to reboot 3 times, uninstall through both the market, and app manager, and without being able to do nandroid yet, I was a little nervous.
Idea sounds great though. It'd be a fun trick to show friends, that's why I gave it a shot.
I am LOVING this!

You don't follow directions. And it worked fine on my gingerbread build. To delete it fully, you first need to to in to settings, locations&security, then select device admin. Untidiness the checkmark, and select deactivate. Then delete.
Personally this was a bit too sensitive for me, but very cool concept.

You're right, I didn't follow those directions because I never saw them. Regardless, it still didn't work for me, and I wanted to let others know of a possible implication. I even mentioned that I was unsure if the result would be typical.

Pretty cool but sometimes I use my left hand and lock it by mistake. And it doesn't disable when I'm in landscape mode for some reason. I had the check box for that feature checked. Is it supposed to be unchecked?

Are you noticing lag after 4.0.2 update?

I'm not talking major lag, just a tiny bit when browsing the apps deck or widgets.
Yes, especially when scrolling through the Widget screens. Also had 2 Launcher force closes since flashing 4.0.2 Yesterday. Hope 4.0.3 will take care of that..
Yeah I noticed that as well... it's very slight, but it was noticeable for me right away.
Did you guys have yakju from the start? or switched over from another build?
I immediately noticed it with the keyboard. Slightly annoying .
Same here. GO Launcher is really bad. Stock is a bit "sticky" too.

Switched to the latest version of the 4.0.1 stock build, and things are back to normal again. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't in my head lol
I think I'm gonna wait it out with this image till google releases 4.0.3. Because they obviously broke something in 4.0.2 :S
the only lag Ive really experienced is with google voice commands. After hitting thehome screen button you have to wait a second before hitting the microphone- if you hit it right away nothing happens. Maybe a little lag with the keyboard in the firt 30-45 seconds the phones on but thats it for me. Now signal thats another issue and that ones annoying.

It has to do with the CPU governors, not everyone seems to be experiencing the lag issue which is weird. Got 15min left on mikes 2.1.1 will see if his release runs better, if not restoring to 4.0.1 until 4.0.3
Just rooted mine and my speed issues seem to be gone on 4.0.2. No idea as to why that is.
I too noticed this on the homescreen, browsing apps/widgets, web browsing... I use a live wallpaper and when I scroll to the left or right the live wallpaper stutters and just pressing the home button repeatedly while on home screen... the live wallpaper stutters...
like someone else said... I think it's something to do with the adjustments they made to the CPU governor
Just upgraded to it 10 minutes ago

'Loading' screen for 3-5 seconds? - SOLVED!

Hi, there.
I'm on Vodafone in the UK and my new One X displays the message 'Loading' with the moving circle underneath every time I return to the homescreen or come out of a programme (for between 3 and 5 seconds.) I've only had the phone for a day and have arranged to have a replacement delivered on Monday, but I wondered whether anyone else has noticed this? It's obviously a dealbreaker but I can't see any other threads, so am I right to assume I just got a dodgy phone?
(I also have a yellow spot on the bottom left of the screen, so I'm not sorry to be getting a replacement.)
Thanks in advance!
The loading screen happens to almost all the OneX out there but if your planning to unlock bootloader then you can use SuperCharger script or one of the custom ROM which already has it. Otherwise you have to live with it.

Gosh, really? I mean this is just infuriating - every time I exit something, there is a reeeeally long pause before I can do anything else. Does that happen to all the phones? Every review I've read talks about how fast this phone is and I would have thought a three or four second hiatus before a new task can be started would have been mentioned somewhere within the torrent of praise I've read for the One X.
I've just come from a BlackBerry Bold which was much quicker and the iPhone doesn't pause like this - if the new phone has it, I'm going to have to rethink.
Is this something others are also experiencing?

It's been a common problem with Android that's why we have SuperCharger script. You'll be suprised how of them are using that script.

Doesnt that disable multi tasking?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I believe so. A quote from Android Developers website.
Immediately destroy activities
Tells the system to destroy an activity as soon as it is stopped (as if Android had to reclaim memory). This is very useful for testing the onSaveInstanceState(Bundle) / onCreate(android.os.Bundle) code path, which would otherwise be difficult to force. Choosing this option will probably reveal a number of problems in your application due to not saving state. For more information about saving an activity's state, see the Activities document.

app problem
For me the activity that restored normal time (instant) when going to the home screen was deleting apps I had installed today. I uninstalled Adidas MI coach app and boom, the loading circle wasn't there any more.

Probably, if you were to check it. The OP has indicated that he got around the problem by unchecking it. In which case there is no effect on multi-tasking. I don't think that is the default setting anyway's, so somehow the setting must have got set on the OP's phone.
Also not sure why it is being said that this loading time is common. It isn't! I have never seen it on my H1X and this would have raised a big concern over usability of the phone....

Testing help required!

Hey folks, I've had a report from the Play Store that my app is crashing on Glides, but I can't get a log from the users. If any of you would be so good to test out the function and see if you have issues, and then grab me a log of the crash, I would be really grateful.. Will increase your thanks meter of course.
My app thread is here and the latest release is in post #3
When the app opens there is the option at the top to go to Android TTS settings. Apparently, clicking on this causes a crash.
Thanks in advance

Thank you If root is detected, su access is requested for advanced functions. Full busybox commands by voice are in the making!
I downloaded the one from the appstore and that one is working well as well. Got it to learn my name and tell me the time and toggle WIFI on and off. Working fine so far. Yes it does ask for SU. No crashes so far. Is the beta any different?
No problems here. Runs smoothly and recognizes commands.
Running stock rooted.
Tested it on a used Glide I just bought and haven't had time to root yet. Running stock 2.3.5 that was factory reset a couple of days ago. No problems accessing any menu or sub-menu item. Guess I just haven't had time to put enough crap on it to make it unstable.

Thanks guys, it's appreciated - strange that the crash can't be replicated - there must be some other issues on the devices that are having problems.
The beta release is still a while away and will contain many more advanced features for full device control by voice. It's strange bug reports like this that slow me down! At least I can move on from this one now.

Ok I just tested my theory. With Pico TTS uninstalled it tries to open settings, which freezes and FCs, and it dumps you right back in your app. Your app does not crash. Honestly if this is the bug, I'd say it's user error and not your fault.

Motorola touchless control APK

Here's a link to check it out. Not sure if it works. If anybody wants to test out the APK, please report back with your results.
Thanks but the app is only installable on the ULTRA, MAXX, Mini, and Moto X.
it installs without problems, but doesn't appear in appdrawer, and playstore says it's incompatible with the One
I have installed the .apk, but can't start it, as it isn't present as an actual app. I think, we also need the settings app directly from the Moto X/Droid Series, in order to be able to set up the actual touchless cotrols app.
Application installed just fine on my Telus Galaxy S3 with CM10.2. Added the activities shortcut through Nova Launcher. Tried to launch each activity but it just crashed.
Rebooted and continuous errors.
There's something unique in Motorola's framework similar to TouchWiz/Sense etc. I know this is the HTC One forums, but I felt like trying it out

Touchless controls is going to require a Motorola Phone. It requires a specific low-core processor that allows the phone to be constantly listening, if we kept the mic in our phones on 24/7 without Motorola's specific hardware, our battery would die in 1 hour.

I was at work and couldn't download it and play with it. I have since tried it (it failed for me too), and have done some more digging. Apparently, the Moto X has a core in it's processor made to do just this. We do not have that core. Looks like this is a lost cause...
Stop saying core! It's a DSP, noting 'core' about that. .
But yes, this is useless without that chip. There is a app on play store that does the same thing and you can even set the wake phrase ('Jarvis!'). Haven't tried it so I cannot comment on battery, but I'm sure it uses quite a bit.
