I was trying out various headphones and headsets to see if there was any major differences and noticed this rather strange thing. I used the youtube video:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?gl=HK&hl=en&client=mv-google&v=4bJ0dvAl98k
And I noticed that using the headphones that come with the HTC One X, the left and right audio channels do not work properly. The right channel seems to be quiet. I also tried it with an old pair of blackberry headphones.
However, when I use the headset from the premium box set (Dr dre solo), the left and right audio work properly.
Any ideas why this is the case?
Have you put the 3,5mm jack in firmly into the headphone port ?
That's the only thing i can come with that is causing your issues ? (because that triggers the same effect of non proper audio channels)
Yep. I checked with a few headphones actually... I'm guessing there is some actual difference between the headphones and headsets.. Pretty sure if some people try it the same thing will happen..
Mystery solved
This should happen to lots of people, not just me.
Been documented in other places such as this: http://code.google.com/p/cmtouchpad/issues/detail?id=132
Basically the youtube app introduces new compression etc and stuffs sounds. Playing the same youtube file via Chrome etc works FINE.

i downloaded mangler from the market and joined my friends ventrilo server which is pretty cool.
one thing thats annoying me to hell is the sound quality. im using the klipsch s2m with mic and they said i sound like the mcd's person and kept on saying "would you like fries with that?" lol
i tried with the headsets mic first, then the phones mic and then other sets but they all sound the same. also did with wifi and 3g no difference.
any idea why its like that? is it the codec thats really crappy on the phone or the mangler app? i logged on vent through pc and phone and listened to it. it sounds just as bad if not worse than the recorded video
I don't think any of us have tested it with a wired mic/headset. We're not really that far in yet. However, have you tried with and without "force 8khz" option?
yep. tried both. tried every option available
And I assume it works fine without the headset. If so, you'll just have to wait until we get around to testing with the wired mic.
And just FYI, BlueTooth is impossible because it's not supported in Android (via the public API)
sorry for late reply. its still the same without the headset tho. with inline mic and with phones mic i still sound the same. i tried another vent app called ventriloid and i do sound a little bit better but the robotic sound is still there.
could it be the codecs?
im trying to figure out also if there is a fix for the recording audio as well.. like an external mic but everything i have found said that it doesnt work
Could it be some setting on your vent server? Or maybe you have a bad/high-latent 3G connection?
I've used the built-in mic a lot with Mangler, and the audio is just fine (even tested this myself by logging into Vent on my PC at the same time).
I'm going to go out on a limb, and guess that it's the codec or your connection. The app might be auto-compressing your audio because it thinks you have low upstream bandwidth.
Also, are you by chance using a Froyo ROM? The AAC+ decoder is crap in it, so it's not a stretch to imagine that the encoder is also crap, and since AAC+ is such an efficient codec by bandwidth, it's easy to see why it would be chosen...
When I connect to media audio via bluetooth in my car, I can only get audio out of the left side speakers. This is repeatable on different apps that play music. When I play a radio station in my car I get sound out of both sides.
What can I check to help diagnose this problem and hopefully fix it?
Thanks.
Does anybody else have this problem?
Does your car audio system support A2DP stereo Bluetooth profile ? Probably it does, otherwise I don’t think you can stream audio with just the Hands-free (HFP) profile (which is a low quality link meant only for calls). Mine works fine in stereo with my car’s audio system. Try deleting all the BT settings from your car and initialize everything from the beginning.
Iam verry sure that your audio car not support A2DP because in my car i can use for stereo...try to see the specification for your car audio bluetooth..
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
It works fine when I use my Galaxy Nexus. This makes me believe it supports A2DP. This problem is unique to the One X for me. Did I get a bad phone?
Also, when I crank the balance over to the side that doesn't work I can hear it a little bit, but it's crackly and distorted.
EDIT: Problem solved. Re-seated the wiring in the sound system and everything is fine now.
I'm using an Oppo HA-2 USB DAC with my WWE HTC One M8 and am experiencing the odd popping \ clicking noise in the audio, even when using proper USB audio apps such as Universal Audio Player Pro or Onkyo HF player. If I use "regular" players such as Gone Mad Music or PowerAmp then the issue is more pronounced.
My wife's 1st gen Moto G does not have the issue and I can use any player app and I get perfectly clear audio, so it's something to do with my M8.
I've reverted to a completely stock 4.16.401.10 firmware\rom\kernel and the issue still exists. I've tried different kernels, roms, overclocking, forcing the display to stay on, all to no avail.
I've tried a variety of source media (FLAC\MP3\AAC\OGG) which are clean (as tested on either my PC or the wifes MotoG)
The USB cable, headphones and the HA-2 itself are ruled out as they all work perfectly with every other device I can throw at them.
I've spoken to Oppo (the audio company, not the phone company) and they reckon it's an issue with Lollipops memory management, but I'm not convinced.
The audio from the headphone jack is pop\click free but the HA-2 sounds so much nicer it'd be a shame not to use it.
Has anyone else come across similar issues with the M8, or even better, come up with a solution?
No, but since I lollipopped my M8 the audio on Bluetooth stutters and clicks how you've described
Has anyone noticed something similar with their LG G4?
When playing music, or podcasts, using different apps (eg CloudPlayer, GMusic, Pocketcasts) via bluetooth in our newest car (Honda Civic '14) I get a noticeable scratchy electric noise now and again - sounds a bit like an old jack cable that needs some cleaning.
Weirdly though, when I use the G4 in our other car (another Civic but this time a '10) which I don't have bluetooth set up for - but rather use the headphone jack and AUX on the car. This also has some weird noise issues on the left channel too. Not like the sound on the other car - but this is amore obvious distortion/static/crap. It's not a continual noise like an out of tune TV (like you'd get in the old days), but it's a frequent intermittent noise.
Do you think this is due to the G4 - or what?
It seems weird to me that in the two cars there are similar audio issues, via different input sources.
Coincidence?
I haven't tested either car with other devices yet - but before I do, I just wondered if someone on here had experienced similar.

Had the issue on g3 my fix was when i use music i had to turn off all other sounds even screen toich sounds
"i had to turn off all other sounds even screen toich sounds "
I don't understand. I don't have any other audio on as far as I know when the bluetooth is on.
Are you saying that the phone needs to be set to silent, in order for bluetooth streamed audio not to be affected?
The thing I find weird is that it's only the left channel which has issues - right channel seems perfect.
And this is both for when using bluetooth, or minijack cable.
Why should only one channel be affected?
I've got same issue with sound via bt in my car with a parrot receiver. Scratches for a few secs after connection, then it stops. But continuous scratchy sound when using gmaps or waze
Hello. I change phones alot and have noticed that some phones(all android) have better bluetooth playback than others.
I had a oneplus 7 pro before this phone and the bluetooth quality to my truck was great and had no issues but with this phone the highs sounds scratchy or like if the speaker is bad. But if i connect it with a wire connection it sounds great. Everything with the 2 phones is the same. On both i was using the galaxy watch and pretty much the same apps. On a previous phone the note 8 i had the same issue but it was a different car. Seems like its the way samsung handles bluetooth.
Has anyone had this issue? If so was there a fix?
Thanks

What do you mean?
The only two things I think about is the codec used that may be different across devices, and the Bluetooth settings that sync the phones volume with the headset (the differences are noticeable).
Since no DAC is used in Bluetooth, I don't think it can comes from them, for a same headset.
On Samsung phones you should run the adapt sound process. Try this.
I tried with the sync volume off too and no improvement.
I looked for the adapt sound and my phone doesn't have that setting. Or is it something different?
It's in Sounds and Vibration 》 Advanced Sound settings 》Sound Quality and effects 》 Adapt sound
You have to do this in a quiet place and ensure to answer honestly. If you can't hear the beeping press no.
After doing this the sound quality is night and day difference.
Ok found it. Ill play with it a bit. Thanks
I've had issues sometimes with audio being piped through the "Calls" Bluetooth channel versus the "Audio" channel so worth checking as the quality is obviously night and day.
I also like enabling Dolby Atmos on my Note 10+ for music so worth playing with too. Additionally, I recently found Samsung's Sound Assistant app which let's you customize a bunch of sound settings so worth checking out as well:

Is there an easy way to tell if the audio is going through the call channel?

Easiest is probably just uncheck calls in your phones BT settings for your truck (and make sure audio is enabled). If the sound is still not great then this isn't the issue.
Sorry to respond to an old thread, but I was wondering if any of this fixed the OP's problem. I followed all the recommendations here and on other threads but have not been able to solve my recent Bluetooth audio problem. The sound has been terrible lately.
Same issue here on my s10+. When playing any audio in my car via BT i hear the distortion/hissing noise especially when the song has a higher treble frequency.
I have just about tried all fixes i could find on Google, and no luck.
When connecting to my ear buds (Jabra Elite 65t) it disappears and checked in developer mode that it supports to AAC for BT Codecs.
But when connecting to the car it reverts to SBC.
The issue clearly lies on Samsungs side, as my brother has a Huawei p30 Pro, also has bluetooth 5 and plays amazingly well in all aspects (Bass-Mids-Treble).
I know I'm posting this almost a year later, but i am desperately looking for a fix.
SN. I have recently updated my phone to Android 10, despite all the complaints to Samsung from many users... Sadly this issue has not being fixed on my side.
From what i see online, people have given up on Samsung and opted for Rooting their Samsungs and installing Viper4Andriod.
Has any one done this and can confirm that it fixed the issue?
