Hi Guys,
Im sure this answer is deep within a thread but ive searched around with no consistant answers. I've tried to apply themes from the nexus forums for AOKP and usually end up with force closes or no theme applied..and in general just a mess. Is there a trick to porting these themes over? I'm willing to put the work in and share if there is, but would appreciate some insight or shared experiences.

I've been looking at a few ROMs but I'm not sure which I like most, so i thought i needed to learn to make one....any help would be great....I want to have the new gingerbread 2.3 in it as well.
slellll checck?
is that better
It is probably a bigger undertaking than you are imagining.
To address your 2.3 req, the only thing you are going to be able to use is the aosp code, and not a sense based rom.
To address the getting started question, i would begin by search in the q&a as multiple people have asked this question so you will find some links to get you started here and in q&a. good luck and have fun!
Stickies provide a lot of info and help me out. As far as ROMs, I would just head to the Dev section and start looking around, trying things out to see what you like. For 2.3, I recommend CM7, it's not totally stable yet for everyone, but has been for me. I'm on nightly 6 and it works fine for me.

So No Help At All? D: That Sucks I Guess Devs Are Busy Making Roms For The Evo
Not every word needs to be capitalized, and paragraphs would be nice so that your message is legible.
I would suggest PMing a developer, one that comes to mind is LeoIsRight. If I remember correctly, he worked on a Sensation and EVO Shift port to EVO. I'm sure that there are other devs as well who will be able to help too if you PM them and ask for help, most of them are nice guys
I'm wondering if anyone has written, or is willing to write a guide on how to theme/mod ICS. I'd like to start being able to customize the look and feel of roms, including icons/softkeys/battery etc...but am not too sure where to start.
There are posts about this in the themes/app & general forums. Search for softkeys and you'll find

Hi!
Just started looking for a custom kernel for my HOX and noticed that it is quite difficult to chose what kernel to use because there functions are not explained very clear. Also I started search on Google on how well the kernels work compared to each other, but i did not find anything.
So my request is that somebody who is good on this, explain what is the different kernels specialty and what you should chose and why!
I think more people than me could really have help of this!
Hope somebody whats to help!
Sorry I don't have an answer but this should really be in the Q&A forum or the general forum.
I have a question about thems. I am not a developer. I don't know anything about themes, I do understand that it does take time and hard work to do. So my question is....Why doesn't anyone theme anymore? I have a Captivate I897, every one used to theme on almost every rom. I have a SGS3 very little to no themes. I see so far the same is true for Nexus 7(2013). Is it that it is to much work or the developers just don't want to do it. I do like themes that are build into a rom. I not only pick a rom to flash but what it does and does not have but also on how it looks.
i am kind of a themer and it is not hard you just need to be good with photoshop and plugins but it takes a hell lot of time people are getting lazy and about S3 yeah just 1 theme for the whole 4.2.2 sad to see as for the new nexus well its a new device give it some time and themeing section will become decent but built into Rom idk about that developers are not themers they can't have all that time on themeing as they need to work on the dev part of the Rom more
