[Q] Can I get an 'alarm' sound to calendar reminders? - HTC One X

Hi. I am pretty new to Android, and I wonder if it is possible to get an 'alarm sound' when getting reminders in the calendar?
I can choose between different sounds in the calendar reminder settings, but they all seem to be very short and unnoticable sounds. And I would like my reminders to sound more like an alarm (with a sound that continues, at least for some time), to make sure I notice that entry in my calendar.
Is that possible, and if so, could you please tell me how to do that? Thanks!

Your not wrong i just noticed it only gives the standard options it doesnt allow you to select a ringtone from the memory card for these type of alerts. I used rings extended on my old htc desire ill download and let you know how i get on with it.

It's like the old android days, you have to put the sound you want on your memory partition in the folder Media/audio/notifications and it will appear in the list

Okay, Thanks.

New Text alerts not good enough

Hi
I have had my unit for a week now and although I have to do a soft reset about twic a day as it gets slow or locked up, I do love it.
One thing I do have to change though, is the fact that the notification sounds are limited and for me not good enough to "Alert" me.
They seem to be more like gentle nudges rather than a "YOU HAVE A MESSAGE,,DAMN YOU".
Ive missed messages and only seen later on the envelope icon.
Is there a way to change this?
Maybe new tones?
or maybe continuous bleeps telling you something has happend and not just I little light you will not see when in your pocket.
Thanks
TK
May have answered my own question.

Will give it a try.
Hi TK London
Check out www.pocketmax.net for the alarmToday and PhoneAlarm applications. They will give you highly customizable AUDIBLE and REPEATING alerts for all phone and PDA functions.
The built in repeating aler functions in the PPCPE are not very reliable, but these fime apps fix the problem, plus give you some very useful profile set ups, which alloe you quickly switch between different alert profiles (slient, loud, what you need at home, at the office etc) without having to go in and modify all the settings each time
Hope this helps
Regards
Chris
yeah how do you get it so it the message tone bleeps every so often ???

After trying to do this, I messed up my phone. It no longer alerts me when I recieve text messages. Also, it won't let me go into my Sound settings from the Setting option.
Someone please help! What is the default value to those two parameters? Thank you in advance!
can anyone please help!?
You guys must be kidding me! All this other tech. support and no one can take not even ONE minute to look in their reg. and get me the default value's for the above fields. Come on guys! It'll take not even 1 minute to do so! Please help out.
Can't Access Sounds Settings
Even after a hard reset on my Dash I can't access my sounds settings. I can access all other settings except this. I am pretty stumped. I think I am going to try the htc rom unless someone else has an idea. This has me concerned though as the hard reset should have fixed it. It also pretty much locks up the phone when I do it. I can answer calls and such, but I can't open any programs.
Whelp, I tried the update and still no dice. Phone has been great until now. This actually really pisses me off. I can't deal with not being able to change sounds.
Finally figured it out! It was trying to read the memory card which had a movie on it and use the movie as a ringtone option. I still don't know how to turn that off, but at least I know how to be able to change sounds when I need to.
Thanks !!!!!
... for this tip. I already hard-resetted my device twice. I don't know why this happens, but now I know what to do.

No sound for Reminders (T-Mobile WM6)
Hi,
I just installed the new WM6 ROM on my Dash, and the Reminders will no longer play a sound, only vibrate. From Settings->Sounds, changing the sound for reminders does not play it like it does for other settings (Ring tone, New e-mail, etc.). The Menu->Play option from the screen will not play the sound if Reminders is selected.
Anyone else running the new ROM having the same issue?
I am -- thought it was because I was trying to use my own sounds, WMA files that worked fine on WM5. After reading your post, tried changing the reminder sound to anything built into ROM, and found it to be as you described... Hmmm... Maybe it's 'final release candidate' ROM?

Me too!
Ack, I thought this happened because I had been tweaking the registry since I upgraded. If my memory serves me correctly, the alarms worked just after I upgraded, but then they stopped working after I did registry tweaks for several different things. I'll have to go back and remove the changes one by one to see which one did the dirty deed.
Here are the changes that I remember making:
Disable the slider sounds: /HKCU/ControlPanel/JogBar/Settings/EnablePlaySound
Used SetJogBar to re-enable the Joggr functionality
Made the change to enable Voice Command over my BT headseat:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\BTA GExtModule
I probably did some others, but am not remembering them right now.
B0gey & Chaz: did you make registry changes before you noticed the reminder function stopped working?
C.
I did, but couldn't tell you if it worked before I made these changes, as I hadn't tried changing sounds yet.
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 40
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MAPI] (this doesn't work in WM6)
--"AttachPath"="\\Storage Card\\Inbox\\Attachments"
--"PropertyPath"="\\Storage Card\\Inbox"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings
--UseJointStereo set to 0
The only one that seemed to be sound related was the bluetooth change, so I put it back to 1 to rule it out as being related, no change.
I'd be more inclined to think a registry entry to have an effect on all sounds, not just the reminder one?
I haven't touched the registry (or modified any sound settings) at all. I noticed it this morning when a reminder was set to go off and instead of hearing the sound I expected it vibrated.
******* Fix Is Here *******
I spent about 2 minutes in the Registry and found the offending registry value...
Go into the following Key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Reminder\
and set the 'InitVol' value from 0 to 2
You will have reminders again, without reboot
I sure hope they aren't launching with this firmware
Thanks... worked, but '2' is a different volume than the rest of the stuff in my Default Profile, looks like you can go up as high as 5? I did, seems to match. Odd there isn't a way to control the Reminder volume level without going into the registry. The Profile volume settings had no effect on it.

Yes, it looks very much like a bug. The profile volume settings should change that, but apparently don't in this version.
mine work fine. I just checked my reg setting and it wasn't 0, it was 3.
I changed a couple settings in my Normal profile and that's it - all from the menu.

Vibrate during appointments

Dear All,
I found that the above option is not working anymore for the last couple of days.
Not sure if it is because of one of the following cabs that I installed.
1. Spike's Mic Neo Task bar
2. [email protected] color tf3d
Any ideas what would be the cause. Help is greatly appreciated
Yogam
I don't see how my theme would interfere with that. The CAB package only replaces several manila files and png files. No registry changes.
Have you checked your Sounds and Notifications settings?

Sorry mate, no offense, I am not at all saying that yours did it. I just mentioned that these are the things that I installed off late.
Yes I did check on it and the setting is 'Set to vibrate during appointments' which is not working. Any help?
By the way, I am not a techie guy hence seeking some help here
No offense taken. Just trying to help. As you can probably guess, I have both of those items you mentioned installed on my device. And I've just did a test.
I've set the Sound Profile to Automatic. Then I've created a new appointment so that it would occur right at this very moment I'm testing. As expected, my device switched to Vibrate mode as indicated on my taskbar. I made a call from my home phone to my TP2. As expected, the ringtone did not play while the device vibrated.
So, if you have your Sound Profile set correctly and you indeed had an active appointment, your device should be switched to vibrate mode automatically. If not, I have no more ideas for you mate, but it's definitely not my theme or Spike's taskbar.

Thank you.
But I also later realized that I changed my ring type to 'Vibrate & Ring' and as a test I changed it back to 'Ring' and guess it seems to work ok. So may be that it was the reason.
Thanks for your inputs.
If you have touchflo disabled. Where do you set this option to vibrate when you have an appointment setup ?

Hi Yogam
On investigation, I *think* the Automatic Profile might fail if there's no reminder set for the appointment. Does that help?
Also noticed that all-day appointments cause problems: when I add an all-day appointment for tomorrow, the Automatic Profile switches to vibrate straightaway. Don't know whether it'd switch tomorrow if I set an all-day for the day after, though.
Incidentally, the Automatic Profile seems not to switch for "Free" appointments.
So see, too, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525533 where agentdr8 recommends ageye's G-Profile. I've not tried it but it looks good
Hmm... I've had a quick look and from the forums G-Profile seems to suffer from problems inherent in WinMo such as problems with all-day appointments and Wi-fi in standby
(http://forum.ageye.de/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=735&p=3274&hilit=all+day+appointment#p3274)
So I think my solution at the mo is to stick with WinMo's Automatic Profile functionality remembering:
1) set a reminder for an appointment during which I want a little vibration (sorry)
2) mark all-day appointments as Free, unless I want a little vibration...often (sorry)

LG G4 H815 Marshmallow and Business Calendar 2

Hi All,
This is kind of a "What has happened since upgrade" question. Got my Marshmallow upgrade a week ago but other than that everything worked as it should. I got fed up with the battery drain so decided to do a factory reset. All went well but I have a lingering issue with Business Calender 2 and "Do Not Disturb" I was wondering if anyone uses this app and could test something for me or comment.
I use Do Not Disturb from 10:30pm to 7am and I have all calls allowed through but no notifications I have no apps ticked as a priority so that to me means any calls I get, all notifications register but do not give any sound.
Business Calender 2 however manages to get round this somehow and no matter how I set it up other than totally silent BC2 notifcations are still audible while the system is on DND. I want to know if its normal or something I have done so am asking if anyone else can check in any way or has had experience.
All other apps, Chrome, whatsapp, text, FB etc show in the status bar but do not sound.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
As an update, I removed BC2 and even with the inbuilt calender app it does the same thing. I looked at an old G3 I had running 5.1 and that has a tick box to allow calender notifications which I didnt have ticked so I think maybe that when I upgraded the G4 from 5.1 to 6 that setting stayed somehow and then when I factory reset it was gone.
I will also note here that I have searched everywhere and it appears that native Android 6.0 has toggles for calender and events to let through on priority screen which they were on 5.1 but they are nowhere to be seen in my priority screen on my G4.. Very frustrating, where have they gone?
It is annoying though as no notifications to me should include the calender.
Oh well..
Guys,
Can I just ask someone here with a non rooted LG G4 running Marshmallow to put their phone into "Do Not Disturb" and then set a calender appointment while its in that state and let me know whether the notifcation is audible or if the "Do Not Disturb" suppresses it. That way I will know one way or the other as a rebuild to find out is a little excessive and I dont know anyone else with a G4.
Appreciated.

I confirm that the calendar reminder notification ignores the "Do not disturb" status and is audible. Strange indeed..

How to set message alert sound to user mp3 file

Hi - I've got an inexpensive Android One phone in which I can easily set the message alert sound to one of my mp3 sound files. I would like to do the same thing to my much more expensive Pixel 3a XL, and I cannot figure out how to do this. The Pixel 3a XL has many already installed notification sounds, but nowhere can I find where I can set my own alert sound. Surely this phone can do what my inexpensive Android One can. Can someone please help.
Thanks in advance.
Go into the app and open it's options, notifications, sounds. In the resulting menu select my sounds and your local notification tones will be there. You need to of course have the notification sound on the phone and you must grant the app permission to access storage so that it can use it.
Could Still Use Some Help
Hi krabman
First of all, thank you for trying to help me with my problem concerning assigning a custom music file to my message notification. It is appreciated.
However, either I am missing something (quite possible) or we have different OS software. When I open the messaging app, go to settings, notifications and sounds, I am faced with six different menu selections, each containing about a dozen different notification sounds. These menus are labeled: My Sounds, Pixel Sounds, Classical harmonies, Minimal Melodies, Reality Bytes and Retro Riffs.
But nowhere can I find any place in which I can assign my own music file. So if you (or anyone else) has any ideas, I would appreciate them. I know that this is not really a big deal, but for some reason it is to me and will affect whether I buy one another one of these phones. Thanks Again.

My Sounds will display files in a few different folders, like Notifications and Ringtones, you should place your sounds there. If you want something from somewhere else, try using an alternative file manager like Solid Explorer and it will be an option when you try select a sound... It will allow to see files in most of the phone, like Downloads and Music.
Create a folder called 'audio' in the root of your SD card (internal only in the case of this phone)
Within that folder create three subfolders: ringtones, notifications, alarms
Place your files in the appropriate folders, and they should show up. Notification sounds will show under "My Sounds" in this case.
My media should find any media that isn't behind a .nomedia flag. However the fellow above is correct in that it is much easier to back up and restore if you use the ringtones, notifications, and alarms folders which are already on the root of your drive to store your tones.
You do not have a different OS or software, make sure you have the media downloaded, store it as described, select it as described, make sure your specific app has storage permissions, and it will work. Not might, will.
Edit, if you're trying to use a full song as a ringtone those may be getting filtered out depending on your settings, cant help you with fixing that; not because I don't know how but because it's incredibly irritating when people somehow think that everyone wants to listen to their entire 3 minute ringtone because they're so awesome.
Finally; Success!
I put the mp3 file I wanted to be used for messaging notification into the internal memory\notifications folder and it then appeared in the messaging\setting\notifications\My Sounds listings. I then enabled the radio button and pressed (the incredibly small) Save button. I thought that I was home free, but when tested it still used the default messaging notification sound. I then went to the OS\Settings\Sounds\Notifications\Advanced and saw that despite having changed the messaging sound from the app, it still listed the default one. Once I changed it there, Bingo! It works. So what I’ve learn:
1) That custom sounds on a Pixel are chosen from the My Sounds menu.
2) The in order to get your sound there it must be in the proper folder, such as internal memory\notifications or internal memory\ringtones.
3) That simply setting this custom sound on the actual application may not be enough, that it also may need to be set at the OS level.
I am a long time Windows phone user (and sad this is coming to an end) so this is my first Android phone. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped me fix this problem. I could not have done it without your help.
Thanks again.

BTW, if you install Solid Explorer, or any other app that can register as a file selection app (most file managers can) you can select it as an option to pick the tone, then browse to any file on the phone and it will apply and work (just tested it with a random MP3 in a random folder with the .nomedia tag). So the limitation here is the built in Sounds picker app.
