Gsm nexus update to 4.0.4

Hi
I got my nexus a while ago, it had 4.0.1 and at 1st boot got 4.0.2.
It's been a while since 4.0.4 is out and i didn't recieved ota update...i don't want to root it.
Is there a way to force ota? Proxy connection pr something?
I am in romania orange network, and i traveled in spain vodafone network( still nothing )
Manual update need root...

been awnsered over and over.... and manual update does not need root.
unlock bootloader, flash official 4.0.4 factory images (the ones found here, apropriate for your device, if you're in europe you probably have maguro/yakju, which is gsm) through fastboot, relock bootloader, done.

I just recieved ota.
Why the f i got verizon version on my phone? I got IMM76K instead of IMM76I...i got a gsm nexus...

Why do you want to "force an OTA" anyway? Just install a custom ROM with 4.0.4, it's probably better than the OTA anyway. You won't damage anything by doing it and you can always go back to a locked bootloader without root.
edit Also, I'm pretty sure you can install stock images with the gnex toolkit available here in the forums. Use that instead of the OTA updates if you necessarily need a stock image.

Updates for people who aren't on Google builds i.e. anything other than yakju, are controlled by Samsung so it's up to them to release them as well as carriers. If you want the latest and greatest swap over to yakju and you'll be getting the latest releases first (and plus we have cookies ).

It all seems to me a waste of resources. Aren't all versions identical in terms of hardware?
When I bought the Galaxy Nexus I did it because I wanted an official stock experience, but you're now saying that my stock ROM isn't really stock? )

You didn't get the V version. That's still a gsm version sent out by Samsung for non yakju builds. Only yakju/takju got IMM76I. I'm thinking due to regionalization Samsung released the K version afterwards as they did some mods like languages.

Unfortunately this is exactly the case. It's still stock, it really depends on how you look at things. I know friends who couldn't care less about which version of Android their Nexus is running and they'll take what comes their way. Then you have people like me who like to experiment and flashing the newest and greatest things

The only thing I hate when I switch ROMs, is losing all my apps and settings. No matter what anyone says, backing them up doesn't always work 100%.

Couldn't agree with you more, that's why I don't bother putting anything on my phone that intends to stay. Or I'll just go back to stock like I am right now if I don't feel like chasing the flashing game. Personally, I don't have much data that I need to persist anyway, it's mainly contacts which is in Google contacts and the rest (apps) I can re-install from the Play Store.

Not sure what problems you guys are having, but I have never had any issues restoring my apps and data.
After flashing a new ROM:
1) I sign into my Google account, and it re-downloads all my apps, Wi-Fi settings, BT settings, email accounts and settings, etc.
2) I use Titanium Backup to restore settings for any of the apps that I want restored.
The only thing I don't restore is data for system apps (like the stock launcher). This you have to redo yourself (which is a little pain in the butt, but it only takes a few minutes). If you use a custom launcher, it's even easier, just restore the settings.

Well, first of all, not all the apps are automatically re-downloaded, depending on the ROM, and second, the launcher settings, the screen/sound/clock/alarms/etc.. (all the other system settings) are just as important.

Really? Strange. I have never had an issue with apps not being re-downloaded when I sign-in to the setup wizard on any stock ROM that I have used.

Yup, as I had mentioned, stock-only launcher needs to be set up. I would assume any alarms would as well only on the stock alarm clock, but I don't use it. Same goes for sound and sound profiles. I use Audio Manager from the market, so the settings are restored using that.
Not sure what settings there for the screen. I thought is was just one brightness control and that's it, no?

The 4.0.4 update for yakjuxw came out today/yesterday if you want to install that. See here.
If you want yakju or takju, look here. First post has instructions on setting up drivers for your PC, unlocking the bootloader, and flashing takju (or yakju) images. Second post has info on how to install the latest stock build (JRN84D).
I would recommend takju (or yakju) over staying on yakjuxw.

If I may add, I would recommend takju if in a g wallet supported country, yakju if anywhere else. I run yakju simply because I don't have any need for Wallet.

Hi, I just got my gsm galaxy nexus i9250 today with stock android 4.0.1. I heard that 4.0.4 will cause signal loss bug so I'm hoping that I can update to 4.0.2 OTA or 4.0.3 instead. So where do I download a stock 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 to flash it? There's only 4.0.4 factory image in the google developers site (xda don't allow me to post link because this is my first post).
Can someone help please? Sorry if this question have been asked before. Thank you.

you could do this. this stock 4.0.2 rooted that you flash via CWM. it was the quickest thing i could find for your request.

The problems with the network have been fixed in a small update (i think it was 500 kb or so) from google. You won't experience the issues we had 2 MONTHS AGO when you just flash version 4.0.4 with Build number IMM761. Android 4.0.4 is way better than 4.0.2...
How did you even get 4.0.1? my phone (european samsung version) came with 4.0.2 from the box back in march.

technically it is a custom rom, but all it is stock rooted with busybox.
as far as an official one. you could flash a say a yakjuux or another variant of yakju that would be official just updated by samsung instead of google.

I wouldn't do that! if I were you
to explain this I have to tell you this:
there are diffrent versions of the ROM available. When your phone comes from the US you have a big chance that you are running Yakuja (the official Google branded ROM). but when you live outside the USA or got your phone from a non-US batch you have diffrent "Samsung branded ROMS". there's not such a big difference other than samsung checks the update and leaves things out that should not be available in your country...
You might brick your phone really nasty when you go update it with the wrong "ROM brand". If you really insist on getting the latest update (4.0.4) and when it doesn't come to you in the normal OTA way. try this thread bellow:

In the process you will get the latest version of Android without the need for modified recoveries. This is "the legit Google way".

im sorry but no.
it doesnt matter what yakju version you go with. the GSM phone is the same across all versions, just a matter of where the software comes from.

Oh if the problem is gone then I would just update it to the latest 4.0.4 then I'm just worried because I read a lot of article saying that 4.0.4 causing signal loss when phone is in sleep mode. I got a used one (like new) from Amazon maybe thats why it's still 4.0.1

Nope, my European stock rom came without Google books (comes standard with android). and did not get full functionality on the NFC (since our public transportation cards can be hacked using NFC). There is a difference between brands.
above that, the method posted in the link is how it should be done. If you check the official Android documentation you'll see the same description (but with some expensiver words). It's a proven way that is and has been reliable and save for a long time. of course I know what CWM is and does. But these ways are just ok.
I don't think the OP needs Root on his phone when he doesn't even know how to update a phone.
And in the technique described on the xda page I revered to (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895) you can actually relock the OEM after the switch, which means you have a very high chance of keeping the factory warranty (they will only notice it when they dig in to the phone really really really deep, but even then you would be considered to be a "stock" user in most of the cases).
When you have CWM sitting in your phones memory they will notice that. If you had it in your phones memory they will notice to (since the phone keeps past-version records on a save place).

The seller that I bought from said he bought the phone from google play store, so it has to be yakju/takju right? which means i don't have to convert it?

Nope just update it.
if your updater doesn't work for some reason try this:
go to settings > hit apps > go to the tab "all" > open the settings for the app "google services framework" > hit "clear data" > hit "force stop" > go back to the main list in the settings app > hit "about phone" > check for updates (it should give you "last checked 1977 or so")
If you got this phone second hand and haven't factory resetted it yet. you should, the previous owner might have left traces from his usage or things that can compromise your privacy behind. this can be done from settings > storrage > factory reset
Good luck with android 4.0.4. You'll love it!

It's completely harmless! It will check the brand on the phone and provide you with details.

There is no 4.0.3 stock ROM. If you want 4.0.2, you can find it here:

No, that is not a stock ROM, and no it is NOT just a stock ROM that is rooted with busybox. It is a deodexed, zipaligned ROM, with a non-stock kernel.
If you use that, you will no longer be able to use OTA updates to update to a new version -- you will have to re-install a full ROM.
As for flashing a yakjuux build, why??? It makes no sense. Why would he flash a build which would get updates later than a yakju build?

Yeah, he mentioned he didn't want 4.0.4, so you should recommend yakju 4.0.2, not a non-yakju build, as a non-yakju build will screw him if he wants any updates beyond 4.0.4.

Still No Update for my Nexus (stucked to 4.02)

Hi,
I am a proudly possessor of a Galaxy nexus.. I have a stock ROM 4.02 and I haven't my update to 4.04 yet.
I tried to force the OTA update killing the process (Framework) but still nothing.
I not want to flash another ROM loosing my data.
Thank you all in advance.

You know there are apps out there to back up and restore all of your data. Also I know I saw the update for you to manually download it from Droid life. Just Google that and I think it told you on the sitehow to do it with out bring rooted and not losing your data.

Updates are rolled out in BATCHES. Not everyone receives the update AT THE SAME TIME.
A few thousand one week, a few thousand the next.
My friend is still on 4.0.2 and his is supposed to be updated FIRST.
Just wait.

Install "Android System Info" app from market and see in System > BuildInfoOS > Product, if your product is "yakju", then it's a matter of time till you receive OTA update notification. But if the product code is other than "yakju" (e.g yakjujp, yakjuxw, etc.), then you might need to wait longer to get OTA update.
Though you can always convert your product to "yakju" from any other build if you want. But keep in mind that this process will wipe your data. So make a backup before you dive into that.

upgrading from Yakju to Jelly bean... how?

hey all, I noticed that jelly bean is out, sort of.
i would like to put it on my nexus but am sofar unable to make sense of the development forums pertaining to this so hopefully someone here can help me understand this.

If you're running stock yakju you don't really need to switch to takju. Just install CWM (The Galaxy Nexus Toolkit is an awesome tool to help you do that) and flash this.

You can go from any rom (custom or stock) to jb as far as you have cwm and xxla2 radios..

got some troubleshooting to do... phone wont show up in fastboot... cant use the toolkit until i figure this out.
edit: reinstalled the naked universal driver... shows up in fastboot now.

Does this method wipe everything?

i think it worked, used option 6 for my build of android, then selectedthe option to install cwm touch, followed the instructions in section 3 on:

Hopefully this will fix the issue i was having with my nexus where the radio would lose all connection to the network... usually have to reboot the phone to get it to work again... a minor annoyance for an awesome phone. Atleast it doesn't take 3-5 min to boot up like my blackberry playbook tablet (that's not cool RIM, please fix)...

it didn't on my nexus... though i didn't use the 7th option which does steps 3-6 (unlock bootloader, root phone, flash recovery) which would wipe the phone.
I just hope i can still send messages on it, last time i flashed it i had to get telus to resend the info to the phone.

another question, I don't think I got the full JB os, as my phone is still using the xxla2 radio... if i wanted to go back to yakju for the full stock OTA update, supposedly coming next month sometime, and keep my warranty, I would just reflash everything back to yakju, including recovery (CWM - stock)?
I assume I would have to do this with the fastboot in the DOS window since I don't think that I can revert everything back to 4.0.4 with the toolkit.
also how do I tell if the phone is rooted? I don't think i did this but would like to know anyways.

Yes, for stock, use adb+fastboot and Nexus Factory Images for everything stock 100%. And to check for superuser, just download an app that requires it and see if you get a command prompt. But even easier than that, SuperUser or SuperSU should be in your app drawer if you have it installed, and also in your /system/app

I don't have those apps installed, guess I am not rooted. Good to know.
Also it should be noted that I no longer have any input lag using poweramp, with ICS 4.0.4 there was always a 1 second (seemed like it anyways) delay between the button press and the phone doing what I want. I hope this extends to using my bluetooth headset as well.

hmmm figured i would try downgrading to takju using the toolkit... it did everything which is nice however i noticed that it still uses the radio from yakju...
is there a way to check what it didn't add to the phone when it downgraded?
edit: I should add that it wiped my phone when I loaded takju...
looking forward to getting the official JB update next month...

I already had bootloader unlocked, so I just had to install CWM recovery and flash the jb-takju image mentioned earlier. Once the phone has rebooted the CWM was gone, so had to reflash that. Afterwards I downloaded the XLFF1 radios (you can search for radio-i9250-xxlf1.zip) and flashed them as well. Now my phone shows all the same versions as the takju phones passed out at Google I/O. All my settings, etc. were preserved.

i really would like to remain stock but get JB as well, what would I need besides that radio to make the takju image from the google site to be prompted to dl the OTA JB update if it is still available to download from google...?

The linked one produced the same build number (JRN84D) on my phone as the one on the phone that came from Google I/O, which is the same as the one in efrants' post.

good to know, i compared the url's for both links, the one in efrant's post is missing the ) at the end. I ended up wiping the cache's (except for the one that sounds like some guys name) and flashed the zip from it. working great so far.
at the moment I am reinstalling my apps, and i do not think that all of the apps that were in the google folder last time i reinstalled the os, are there. anyone know what the default apps that are supposed to come with the OS are in that folder? I can only remember Layer which I installed manually...

Sorry, I didn't have to reinstall anything, so the apps in my Google folder are the same as before the update. I do however have Currents in the main app drawer which I don't remember having before.

Not getting OTA 4.2.1 Update

I recently got my galaxy nexus and it came with 4.1.1 installed and when I go to check for updates it says that I'm running the latest version. Help? Is there any way to push the update? I don't want to flash a custom ROM yet.

Depends on you're carrier. Nothing you can really do. Could be next week, could be next year (Verizon). I know you don't want to root but by the time you're carrier pushes any form of 4.2 we will all be on whatever is next and new anyways.

It depends upon your carrier..Your carrier(Sprint,Verizon,Samsung) decides when to push the ota.For ex-Takju gets the latest update first and then to yakju..
To get 4.2.1(currently latest) you should unlock bootloader in order to flash custom roms and enjoy 4.2.1:good:

That's the thing I have the yakju and my brother has the takju, they are both factory unlocked and they are both not getting the update. I had another galaxy nexus about a month ago and it got the update immediately, someone let me know if you're not getting the update either.

clear the google services framework and then check for the update.

Thanks, I've already tried that but no luck. Any more tips like that? The only thing that I can think of is that Google took off there factory image for download...?

try what i said before, but on wifi. just to be sure... unless you were already on wifi.
the next thing you could do is just flash the factory images without flashing userdata.. that should work without any problems.

Still no luck, could it be that my CID is on fido even though it's a factory unlocked unit? Is there any way to remove or get around CID limitations.

be sure that your Nexus I9250 is not rooted and have stock recovery and the bootloader is locked (not necessary but in case...) in order to receive update. if so, go to app. clear data and force stop "google service framework" then go to setting---->about phone and click on update. repeat these steps many time until you receive the ota update

any way u can unlock bootlaoder and flash factory image of 4.2.1 yakju or takju link
