Unlock then sideload apps? (is this the right process) - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

Tmobile - HTC Radar (updated to latest version
So in order to side-load apps, I must unlock my phone, as in, be able to use an ATT sim card in it. So since Chevron is now down, do I just buy any unlock code from 3rd party/ebay and it'll work.
(Is there a way to hack it for free so I can save a few bucks
Then once it's unlocked, use a xap deploy-er to get whatever apps I want on there?

You've got your terms mixed up (and you're posting in the wrong sub-forum...)
You need a Developer Unlock and/or and Interop Unlock in order to sideload XAP files. This is what Chevron sold to users.
The people on eBay are selling Carrier Unlocks. This will let you use any SIM card with the phone, but WILL NOT allow you to sideload XAP files.

if i use unlock tools should i re-unlock the network?

hello guyz i have HD7 from o2 and i unlock the network and it works fine
i want to ask if i use one of those unlock tools like "ChevronWP7" or anyOne else
or if i change the rom
should i re-unlock the network one more time? or it dont need?
The two types of 'unlock' are mutually exclusive. A sim-unlock or network unlock that you have performed for your phone simply allows you to use other carriers' sim cards in your phone. ChevronWP7 unlock allows you to sideload XAP files into your phone, just like how an officially registered developer can do with his or her phone when developing their own applications.
So do not worry, ChevronWP7 unlock or similar (although I cannot speak on the oither 'similar' solutions that may come out in the near future) will not relock your sim or network unlocked phone.

how to register an unlocked windows phone (HTC HD7) for development

Hi,
Apparently the windows phone developer program is not available in my region. Is it possible to register an unlocked windows phone device without paying the developer fees for the marketplace. Just want to experiment on some homebrew apps?
Also is there a way to unlock the phone not using Chevron tool. Because the tool is made obsolete by the Nodo patch.
Thanks
No, unfortunately not.
The only way to unlock the device other than officially is to use the Chevron tool.
MS did say they were looking at alternatives for homebrew development and hopefully that will come soon.
I feel that if they can't offer marketplace registration for people in other countries they should at least allow them to be able to dev unlock their phones so that they can still work on apps for the phone. Then, when the marketplace opens for those regions there will be a whole lot of apps ready for release.
Thanks... is it possible to debug the applications when running on the device or does the Chevron tool make it possible only to sideload apps.
You can use your chevron-unlocked phone for debugging apps and games, yes.

If I get the Xperia Play Sim Unlocked...

If I get the Xperia Play sim unlocked, Can I then unlock the bootloader?
if you unlock your bootloader via jinx or alejandrissimo it will unlock your sim at the same time... i used alejandrissimo, very professional and was unlocked in minutes but it is the paid way.
unlocking your sim will not change anything at all to do with your bootloader im afraid, if your sim locked the paid way is the only way - $24 well worth it!!
Looks like thats the way im going to have to go. On the plus side, I get paid tuesday. =)
But yeah, I was just wondering cause I know people were like you cant unlock the bootloader if its a sim locked phone and all this other stuff and I was thinking, What if I called up ATT and got them to unlock the IMEI?
But if that wont change anything, I guess the paid method is how im going to have to go about doing this.
Thanks
If you get it sim unlocked your bootloader will then be allowed to be unlocked.

I believe the bootloader is specific Per-Device.
You can check if you can in your settings, excuse my newbieness,
Settings > Root Status (or something to this effect)
If your bootloader can be unlocked it'll be listed there.
I dont think the status of your SIM (locked or unlocked) affects the bootloader.

Well... Then I guess Im just gonna call up ATT and get the unlock code. Unlock the phone's sim lock and see if I can, Worse comes to worse, I cant. I still have the paid method available and I havent paid any money what so ever.

Ive looked there and it doesnt show. Which is what brought my hopes down in the first place but everywhere I looked... it said I cant because the device is simlocked. Which is why i wanna know if getting the sim lock removed would then allow me to access and unlock the Bootloader via FastBoot.
I have never owned a phone that has stopped me from rooting and installing custom roms to it. This is kinda a dissapointment but on the plus side, its a good phone.
Hard to get an unlock code from AT&T Or so I heard, but if you do, if you can tell me what you said, that'd be great.
If you do get an unlock code from them, Cant hurt to try to unlock the bootloader after that.

Im a "Valued" member of ATT. Had them for years. So, They dont question me. As long as youve had the phone on your account for 90 days, they dont bother you if you ask for a unlock code.
I will most likely do this tomorrow and will post the outcome. because like I said, if it just takes unlocking the sim card from ATT to be able to unlock the bootloader... id rather do that.
Im not against paying 24$ to have it done.. but why not try what I can for free first?
Hi everyone, I'm completely new to smartphones, just bought an Xperia Play 800i. I have been keenly reading the forums, going through everything I need to know.
My android version is 2.3.4 and build number is 4.0.2.A.0.42. Phone is network locked.
If you don't mind letting me know, the best way to start is by unlocking the SIM right? Then unlock the bootloader, then custom kernel and flashing?
Your advise would be appreciated.
AFAIK regular SIM unlocking doesn't let you unlock your bootloader.
I've read of people who pay a little or get sim unlock from other methods which isn't enough for the bootloader.
It's just that Alejandrissimo's method unlocks both sim & allows for bootloader (it's a 2 for 1 method).
Hope it helps, and if AT&T gives you a free sim unlock code then give it a shot, but it's said it doesn't work that way.
I'm trying Alejandrissimo's method and I'm lost. Have PM'd him and waiting for his reply. I am not on the AT&T network.

Thought that was only T-Mobile. Sadly I dont even have an account with them, Just bought the phone from ebay. So im probably gonna have to spend more to get the thing sim-unlocked.
Oh, look what I found on AT&T's website.
Requirements for monthly wireless plans:
Your wireless service has been active for 90 days or longer
Your account is current and in good standing
Your phone is not sold exclusively by AT&T
Your phone's unlock code is available from the manufacturer
Your phone does not have a long-term exclusive service agreement, or the contract time period has expired

I'm stuck at the USB over Network stage, keeps saying server unreachable when I select MY PC. What am I doing wrong? So frustrated!
You can get your Xperia unlocked in less than 10 minutes by Alejandrissimo. When he SIM unlocks your Xperia he will also automatically unlock bootloader.
You can visit his website here.

I visited his website, downloaded the zip file, and then I'm stuck not knowing what to do next.
So, you are saying I have to wait for him to respond to my request? So, I guess the USB over Network program will be used by him, to remote unlock my Xperia? I'm cool with that because I want to pay for the service.

New to WP7, Unlock question

Ok so I just recently switched to WP7 from android. I followed the steps and made my phone developer unlocked but that doesnt seem to be what is called unlocked for wp7. What is needed to get a "fully" unlocked phone with root? Ive seen something called interop unlock? Thanks for the help.

It's not yet possible on the 900. People are working on it.
So ive read. My question is more general, not just for the lumia 900. What are the differences between the unlocks?
Unlock types
Windows phones are locked down so you can only install applications from the marketplace that have been tested and found to behave themselves.
Microsoft wants to encourage application development, so students can register as developers for free, and have a partially unlocked phone that allows them to install 3 homegrown applications.
For $100, one can establish a commercial developer's account with Microsoft, and can then developer unlock your phone, which allows installation of 10 homegrown applications.
If you interop unlock your phone, you can install an unlimited number of homegrown applications. This step is a pre-requisite for Heathcliff74's root unlock, which allows elevation of trusted apps to run with high privileges. This allows powerful but unsafe modifications to be made to your phone.

It will be in whatever form those who are working to unlock the phone make it available in. Maybe a XAP, Maybe you will have to flash an unlocked rom with the the recovery tools provided by supersport in the dev. section.
There is no telling until its found out how to do this.
Thank you both. That clarifies alot.
is interop unlock for nokia lumia 900 out already?

[Q] Learning to Sim Unlock - Where to start?

Hello! I've been trying to figure out how to sim unlock my phones for quite a while now. I've asked everywhere, even unlocking sites how they get these codes (to no avail of course) and I never tried asking here for some reason. I want to learn how it's done, and how I can do it myself. My Dad jumps from phone to phone and always needs to get them unlocked. I don't want to pay for them anymore, I'd rather do them myself!
I just found this thread: [TUTORIAL] Unlock Samsung [GT-S5570 / i5500 / Galaxy Ace] which will help me unlock my aunt's phone which is nice I guess, but it looks to be a Samsung only method. Am I able to use a similar method with a phone that has an EFS folder? Is it in the nv_data file? How do unlocking websites retrieve the unlock code with just the model, network and imei? Do they simply ask the carrier?
I'd love for any sort of help! Just a guiding light, a path to follow, anything! Please and thank you!
Some phones can be unlocked using software exploits however most require a unlock code that is generated based on the imei as far as I know you can not generate these codes yourself
The short answer is that there are very few ways to get free unlock codes for phones these days. Samsung sometimes leaves system directories wide open which allows for a few tweaks to get the phone unlocked, but most other manufacturers have things locked down pretty tight.
The databases from SIM unlock services are filled with unlock codes which they purchase from manufacturers or component makers.
They have a app now that does it on the market but for how long who knows. U have to b rooted for it to work
unlock codes
Do you know what the name of that app is?
