navigation app - HTC One X

i have tried the navigation on the htc one x
its good but there is a 30 day trail on it so i think that after that you havew to pay for it
and im not impressed by google maps
on my htc desire i had installed sygic
but that wont work on my one
anyone some suggestions?

I use Sygic, works fine. One of the best in my opinion. Just buy it in the market so you have the latest version.

that doesnt work on my htc one x tried that but im trying again maybe after custom rom it will work thx anyway

I use Co-Pilot and I love it. Problem is the normal price is a bit steep. I got mine in a half price sale else I'd have never gone for it. Glad I did though.

I also use Co-Pilot Live Premium. I got mine at a special upgrade price when I moved from Co-Pilot Live 8. For me it's great. I got a free map upgrade at Christmas too and they have just offered 12 months free Activetraffic that's meant to automatically re-route you if there's traffic on your current planned route.

Assuming you've purchased Aura, just log into the sygic support site and request your activation code be reset. This normally happens within 48h, you can then re-enter the code and activate on your new handset.
Cost of co-pilot and sygic is similar at the minute £33 for copilot and £40 for sygic, both are good but I prefer copilot - used the old version while travelling around Europe and had zero problems with it or its routing. Sygics routing seems to be idiosyncratic at times but their customer support is exemplary.

For me the best gps program is Ndrive 11

thanks

I haven't really found an app that has given me complete satisfaction. I like Google Navigation but sometimes I cannot get is running when network is weak or temporarily unavailable.
Aura Sygic: The best UI. I like the options. But the routing is what I did not like. More than half the time, it gave me some awkward routes when there were more convenient routes were still available. That was a real deal breaker for me. And thankfully, Sygic offers a trial period unlike Co-Pilot and Ndrive which you get stuck with after Google's 15 minute refund windows closes.
Co-Pilot: I like the fact that it displays which side of the road my destination is when I reach there (not always accurate though, but useful for my part time job as a pizza delivery driver). However, it sometimes tells me to enter a one way street from the wrong direction. I don't like Pico TTS Engine that it uses for text to speech voice direction so I used the normal voice guidance which was less mechanical than Pico although it did not speak street names. I wish it supported SVOX.
Ndrive 11: Bought it just a couple of days ago. I don't like the UI (maps) as much as Aura or even Co-Pilot. The 3D view looks more or less like 2D. But it's routing appears to be the better than the other apps I mentioned above. I wish it clearly indicated which side of the street the destination was upon arrival. It does indicate on the map itself with an icon but it is not so easy to make out. And there no TTS voice available for turn by turn voice guidance. I wish these third party apps spoke out street names like Google Navigation.
So, I'd be happy if there was an app that had maps like Aura, features like Co-Pilot, accurate routing like Ndrive and superior TTS voice guidance like Google Navigation.

I use waze. It's good

Sygic works perfect on my One X, use correct xml-file and 2010 k* for not going to demo mode.

I would say Navigon is good.

which Sygic version are you using? I'm getting notifications it doesn't work on my european ONE X because of the lack of hardware 3D acceleration.

doesn't matter, newer version works like a charm.

I've been using Navfree from the PlayMarket, and it works very well for a free navigationapp.

I'm looking for a navigation app as well for my HOX. Google Navigation isn't even enabled in my region (Malaysia), and I've used Garmin on my previous phone before and am very used to Garmin. What's the closest to Garmin that is available on Android and has Malaysian maps?
One thing that I really REALLY don't like about the Navigation app is that it doesn't tell you whether to keep on the left or right lane when there is a small split in the road unlike Garmin.

XDA does not condone the use of warez, so please don't ask for it.
Thread cleaned.

+1 Navfree

gps app

Cant seem to be able to find good gps navigation sw.. Anyone got any suggestion
I would recommend iGo My Way
iGo doesnt have an app for wvga devices, the modified version of iGO for wvga is called motonav. But there are other softs like: navigon, copilot, sygic, ...
check discussion related to Desire
here is a good link :
http://mobile.jack-frost.co.uk/android_sat_nav_apps.php
I recommend Waze. Crowd sourcing GPS navigation, with real time traffic gathering from other Waze users. You can even update the maps online if they are incorrect. And its completely free.
When I switch it on in the morning it auto plots the fastest route to work, and the same for going home in the evening. I love it.
I really like Waze, especially the traffic information wich you receive from other users in the area is incredible! And its kinda fun socializing with it
The Waze is really interesting, but its useless in countries where only few people use it.
Yeah it needs a small community behind it to make it really powerful.
most of your suggestion are for US / EU... not for asia.... anyone got other alternatives???
Cyberazi, you can use Waze anywhere in the world, but as mentioned, if there's not many others using it in your area you'll find that you'll be the one creating new roads as you drive along them for the first time.

Try:
- iGo
- nDrive
check for papago, this should be asia compatible
I've been using Ndrive for a past 1 year, seems dependable...
Which is the app to improve my gps for my unrooted Galaxy S?
I have a huge problem when I'm using the Igo. I have done all official updates and I think I will go to the other way......ROOT!!!!!
What's your opinion??????
Waze is the app you are looking for, as many users use it the better and reliable the evolving maps will be available for you.

Thanks for the heads up. Any differences you noticed compared to "regular" version?
Save your money and buy something that's worth it. CoPilot is worst navigation system I have ever seen!
I bought the full European version for £29.99 instead of £60.
It does annoy me that the USA Version is only £2 for Standard and £6 for Premium!
Navigon is a sack of sh1t compared to this (IMHO).
Each to their own, personally I think it rocks and for the money you cannot complain!
I bought CoPilot v8 at the beginning of May, when I got my S2. It cost me just over £20.
ALK have confirmed there is no upgrade path and all they will provide existing users (along with everyone else) is this 7 day, 50% discount.
After having a quick look at what this new 'Premium' versions offers, I think I'll be saving my money and wait for v10.
A reviewer wrote:
Stick with V8. Glad this wasn’t an upgrade!! V9 seems to have forgotten what SATNAV is for. Suggested routes are ridiculous. Every route needs editing, not good when at the roadside and all you want is to get from A-B. No routing prefs Shortest, Quickest etc. Road prefs if not on neutral make things worse. No town\city location display. Often looses gps fix. Display on Wildfire has grey pixelated areas and chopped off icons. ‘Not fit for purpose’ in many areas. Needs to be fixed – quick or Refund please!

Maps for the region your purchased are free. E.g. I bought UK and Ireland version (those maps are free). I can additionally purchase maps for other regions (e.g. Western Europe).
Regarding the voice, screenshot attached.
Overall this version is great. The UI is epic compared to the last version.

That is a very fair review I would say.
As for the maps, that may be true, I am not sure, but I don't believe it is. I think the cost of the Copilot app includes the maps.
There are additonal 'bolt ons' available within v9.0 which cost extra. I have paid for Traffic (£9.99 per annum), I would have paid for Fuel Prices (4.99 per annum) but it is not available in the UK presently.
The best part for me is the upgraded registration process. In v8.0 it was a nightmare and if you wanted to change from one device to another, it could quite literally make your brain bleed. It is easy in v9.0.
Overall, I am very happy, I am just jealous that I do not live in the US where this is extremely cheap. The cost of maps must be less for Copilot over there I guess.
Someone told me that CoPilot do not integrate with Android Contact
This should mean that it isn't possible to invoke navigation from an Contact address ... is this a fact (or a joke)?
If you're talking about selecting a contact in Android's Contacts app & navigating to it via CoPilot, that doesn't seem to be an option -- instead of opening CoPilot, it takes you into Google Maps. It may be the case that Android doesn't provide the hooks to allow third-party apps to be called from within their Contacts app; Google wrote the OS, so they set the rules.
However, you can select your Android contacts from within CoPilot.

Android do provide the hooks to allow third-party apps to be called from within their Contacts app. IGO My Way is one confirmed example.
Is Copilot as good or reliable as tomtom? Tbh, I still find myself using my htc touch diamond for satnav since it has tomtom navigator on it. Honestly, all the other satnavs around are crap from what I've tried. They all have some fancy features or graphics which are nice or better in some way (like I use google satnav sometimes and it speaks actual road names which is cool, but no speed camera warnings) but overall, tomtom is the only one I trust and feel comfortable with and which holds my hand down every road. Can't wait till tomtom hits android.

Problems - just me?
Hello all
I'm having real problems with mine at the moment. It locks up constantly usually when a planning a route but often when navigating and sometimes it hangs the phone too.
Mine's a very standard installation, not rooted and the phone is stable otherwise.
It might just be me but if not I'd say it's a long way from being release worthy.

S2 as navigation in my car

I've actually have two questions. I want to use my S2 as navigation in my car. I've heard about free apps for offline navigation. Anyone know a name of one? Internet abroad costs tons of money but i'd like to be able to use my phone as navigation when i'm going on holiday as well.
Secondly, i want to buy a carholder, but i was wondering if it is bad for the phone to put it up to the window in the full sun for a couple hours :S. Or should i find a different spot out of the sun? And how close to a window does the phone need to be so it is able to receive the gps signal.
Thanks in advance

Try Brodit in car holder, mounted on Brodit ProClip. Check to see if ProClip for your car is suited for your use.
Thank you very much, my car actually has a thing like proclip installed and i can probably install it there. I'm just gonna test first if it has good signal on that spot.

+1 for Sygic. Best interface and map so far... I'm waiting for Tom Tom to get off their butts and finally release something for Android already. I normally use Tom Tom but would rather use it from my device instead of having 2 devices mounted on my dash.
Check out Google Maps Navigation!
Take a look at the new version of Google Maps Navigation.
It works really well. AND according to Google Maps you can
"pre cache" maps for the route you will be taking. (It's a "Beta" feature)
I haven't tried pre caching myself (I have a good dataplan! ) but it should work!? If anyone has tried this feature, please let the rest of us know!
I have tried to install Navigon (yes a cracked version, I'm a bad person) and it just will not work! (suit you right, you bad person!! ).
So I stick to Google Maps for now and it works fine for me!
If I have helped you, please push the thanks button!

Sygic is great but not usable in Balkans and some parts of eastern Europe (problem with Teleatlas map coverage). Use android navigation in those parts of Europe the only way is use cracked Igo My way because it is not possible purchase it legally, just alltogether with some devices. However it works great.

What did you pay for on screen directions?
Samsung Navigator is an award-winning navigation app with maps and search function. Wisepilot is very flexible and you choose how you want to use it.
- You can just use the free functions, for example. search, map, directions and sharing.
- Or you can extend the experience with additional features that can be purchased via the app, eg. navigation message every time you turn, and information about speed cameras. Prices depend on the time period.

[Q] Best Full " Offline " GPS Navigation Software ?

I am a total Noob/Newbie here, heck I don't even have my first Android device yet,(already Ordered one). I was wondering if you guys can help me w/ this. I'm looking for both PAID & Free (if theres is any) Offline GPS software for the Nexus 7 2013.
Have a look at Nokia's HERE Maps https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.here.app.maps
Also MAPS.ME is highly regarded although doesn't yet have voice guidance https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapswithme.maps.pro
All maps can be downloaded for offline use.
I've used several GPS navigation apps that work offline. IMO, CoPilot is hands down THE BEST! Once installed you can choose which maps you want to download saving space. For example I live in Alabama, USA so I chose to download the USA southeastern region map. It has tons of great features. It's free to use but to get the full version it requires purchasing. I paid only a few dollars for the full version and it is well worth every last penny!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alk.copilot.mapviewer
HERE seems to be pretty good. One can also download specific states to save on space. NAVTEQ always made a good product.
Copilot or Sygic were the best ones last time I checked... Both are paid apps though... Worth the money though.

OsmAnd - used in Thailand, Taiwan and, more recently, through all the stops on a Baltic Cruise (Copenhagen, Berlin, St. Petersburg, Stockholm...). Works great to find where you are and minimal navigation. Based on OpenStreetMaps so always free and usually up to date. Make sure to download the regions prior to travel.
Best one is obviously sygic ( No doubt )
Best one is obviously sygic ( No doubt ) Ive been using it for years on my N4 and now on my N7 2013 .
The best offline navigation ever ( its paid and if you can get hold of a copy )
OsmAnd is Free app :

I keep it as Plan B
I have tried a few of these: Navigon, Sygic, Tomtom etc...

Just used HERE for a week in Greece offline.
I just preloaded the map all my favourites online. Offline, it all worked flawlessly in Greece. :highfive:
I used to have to take an old N86 for offline navigation but HERE now does the job almost as well. :good:
iGO primo and newest version is best full offline GPS navigation software...NO doubt!!!
HERE by nokia is really good. I use it on my phone.
Another one for Here Maps - it is simple, accurate, free and fully offline once you have the maps you need. I used Sygic before which I disliked for its GUI and inaccurate maps for my region. Also been there with Waze and Google Maps - neither works as they should with Google being a prick and directing me to god knows where on some occasions and both of them lacking offline features.
I started with Navigon, but switched to Sygic, for which I am a beta tester now. It's not free, but it's very actively developed and maintained. They have discount offers every once in a while and it's a lifetime-license.
