[Q] ICS - How do I? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Xperia Arc S
It currently has 0.62 firmware.
I have unlocked the bootloader (official sony way)
I have rooted (using XperiaArc.zip method)
I am currently downloding the ftf file for ICS.
Do I need a "kernel"?
How do I get ICS on it?
Will I still have root?

go to xperiablog dot net everything is there

ah well, flashtools not working for me
Edit a quick run of the drivers in flashtools and it was good to go!

read in the develepers thread, i am sure there is somewhere a howto. Step by step.

may be this link httpII:talk dot sonymobile dot com/thread/35239 will help gud luck

what i do is put the rom downloaded into sd card
push the kernel using fastboot tutorials
spam the menu button untill entered recovery.then wipe, then flash
nvr bothered bout baseband until yesterday, where i use flashtool to update the BB.

I have a arc S running on .42 rooted with locked bootloader. (I can unlock it but havent done so yet).
How can I install ICS from the released copy so far?
Or should I just wait for the release at my region?

flashtool 4.0.2.A.0.62 root

Can the new flashtools root 4.0.2.A.0.62 for arcs with locked bootloaders? Already upgraded once to find out i couldn't root it. Has anyone done this successfully with a locked bootloader as I don;t fancy experimenting again.
yes mate flash the old kernel from the .58 or .42 or .283 FW by excluding baseband & system in flashtool b4 flashing after that root as normal with zergRush..

Thats what i did last time i experimented and it didnt work. i installed 62 then flashed the 42 kernel with flashtool. But zerg wouldnt root it. But i flashed the kernel only. in one of the 62 threads there were links to getting it rooted with locked bootloaders. This went to a guide with nothing about locked bootloaders in it, only unlocked.
somewhere here in the forums is a thread about CWM for locked bootloaders, with that you CANNOT flash custom kernels, but old kernels in zip format, hang on i'll get you the zip + the link for the locked BL CWM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390771 this is the link for CWM: follow these instructions for the arc : 1.Run install-cwm?.cmd
install-cwm1.cmd for Xperia Arc / Neo / PLAY
2.Enable USB Debugging on device
3.Connect your device using usb data cable
4.Follow on screen instruction
and here's the kernel it's the .283 kernel
it wasn't custom, it was the stock kernel from .42 flashed to .62 and zerg refused to root it. Although apparently this worked on previous versions as i tried flashing the .42 kernel over onto .62 as a tip from one of the other members on here. but I couldn't get it rooted in the end and gave up and went back to .58.
flash that kernel via CWM
so if done with cwm mod it should work then? Whats the difference flashing the kernel with cwm as opposed to flashtool? Would have thought it be the same.
dont know the difference, but this one worked for me
cheers ill give it a go.
no problem feel free to contact me via PM if you still have problems

I have the exact same problem as you. Did you manage to accomplish anything? If yes would it be easy for you to explain to me the exact steps? If not is it possible to give me the address or send me the .58 firmware for arcs (the ftf file). I wasn't able to find it somewhere. Thanks!
upgraded to .62 then tried to install cwm but it wouldn't let me as the phone needs root permission to be able to install it. So how did you deal with this? I also flashed the .283 kernel with flash tools after updating to .62 and zerg again failed to root the device.

Ok, I'll give it a try.
Before I go back to .58, is there any rumour if Flashtool is going to support rooting on .62 firmware soon?

Nope... the zergRush exploit has been patched on .62 fw and there wont be another exploit on Gingerbread, since we're going to ICS.
is there anyway to root 62 without unlocking our bootloaders or is it nay to impossible?
So far I wasn't able to find a way, so I think I'll just go back to .58 or .42 and root, waiting for the official ICS.

Did you removed some system app's?
no , just used link2sd app to move all app files
i think its may be the problem
Solution
If you have the .42 and you want to get the .62 root you have to do this:
- Flash with flashtools the .42 original room
- With flashtools root your phone.
- Start updating via OTA to .62
If you have 0.42 and you root this with superoneclick or other that not be Flashtools you wouldn't get your .62 root OTA
aaah thanks , i just want to update to .62 so i be ready to receive ICS when available Nothing else :S
but i think i will be wait when availble official to Arc (not Arc S) i will flash it via flash tool
I recomend to you installing ICS version of ARC S and then flashing the Doomlord kernel for setting the correct CPU clock. (only for unlocked bootloaders).
But... well ok, if you want to wait to the official version you can see very good changes from .42 to .62, better battery life, more stability at the system running, etc...
the feedback of arc user says that is was some problem with touch due to different kernel even with arconiume ICS rom
i think i will try unroot we zurg brush (winch i root first) and root again with flash tool )
and try to upgrade from ota
oka
i found link for .42 but its 150 MB unlike the other link which is 250 !!
i found the first link in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330314 topic
and uploaded.to server is suck so i search for another link like hotfile cause i have premiuim there

is hotfile file is right ?

I dont think the NEW JB would be available to download anytime soon.. So just wanted to Connect the Phone to PCC on my Xperia and Flash it.
Already Flashed ICS STOCK via FLASHTOOL on Phone but since its not MY COUNTRY specific
The build gives a few errors.
Just want it like the brand new as if its out of box with the New JB.
Please Reply.

You have three options -
1) Wait until someone releases the FTF file of stock JB and flash it with Flashtool
2) Relock your bootloader and try to do a software repair/update with Sony PC Companion/SUS.
3) Use Sony's official Flashtool for unlocked bootloader to restore your device to ICS/update it to official JB.
In my opinion, don't relock your bootloader but just wait until someone gets the update and makes the FTF file. Meanwhile, you can use Sony's official Flashtool and revert back to stock ics.

Which new JB? the ftf you download and flash is the same that you get from PCC or SUS, just using a different way.

I'm tired trying to root SONY XPERIA S with JB ROM .200. It's possible or not? HOW!!!

Well, if there is someone who rooted their SONY XPERIA S with JB ROM .200 please let me know, and how you did it, without downloading some heavy MB tools. Thanks. I have locked bootloader but it can be unlocked.
Try using DoomLord's script in Development Forum. I rooted my Xperia using that script and everything went fine.
I've tried, it says at some point that my phone is not supported, the model with ROM .200 only with .211

It might be a .200 bug. Why don't you try to upgrade to .211?? It may fix that problem...
In PC Companion is not yet . So any other way to do it, I Don't know.
Same problem
I have the same problem, I used to root using Bin4ry's method, but that no longer works, and I can't upgrade to .211 as it's not available in the UK.
This ROM .200 is full of bugs, but for me the most annoying is that the 2G is not working well when connecting to the internet.
I'm waiting for the official .211 if I cannot root it.
Maybe you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2304994

Hello ....
I had the same problem, mine was also *200 built Jelly Bean, I tried every exploit to root I could, spent all day messing with it, I did not succeed, I couldn't even get into fastboot or any method to enable me to flash this pre rooted ROM as it's zip format not ftf.
I eventually managed to soft brick my Xperia S, then I down graded to ICS, and rooted that very easy indeed, so I'm staying on ICS for the time being, didn't notice any vast improvements with Jelly Bean update anyway, and the phone works great now, I know with the version how to flash if I want too.
Hope this helps? .............................

I suggest you to first unlock your bootloader via the easy tool described at here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
then flash the Doomkernel with the flashtool booting at fastboot mode. Before doing that never forget to install the necessary drivers.
The kernel is preloaded with custom recovery CWM and TWRP. While booting when you see doom logo pressing at 'vol +' you'll get CWM and pressing at camera button you'll get TWRP.
And flash the su and busybox package via recovery (CWM or TWRP)
for flashtool http://androxyde.github.io/
for kernel and su & busybox package: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305591
& then enjoy Rooted jelly bean
ALL THE BEST !
I'll try. 'hope it works.
SONY XPERIA S
Nope. Not working. It's best to leave the phone as it is.
SONY XPERIA S
Well I managed to unlock my bootloader. Now i'm stuck on how to root it. any ideas?
First of all check your bootloader status.
*#*#7278423#*#* and then service info>configuration. If your bootloader is unlocked, it says 'bootloader unlocked = yes
And be sure that after installing the drivers you successfully connected the phone at fastboot mode. Long press volume + while connecting usb cable to PC. Flashing tool must detect your device.
After unlocking your bootloader rooting will never be problem.
And do it properly, this method definately works but you must be sure your bootloader is unlockable and unlocked also.

[Q] Can C6506 - 10.4.B.0.569 Be Unlocked And Rooted

I have an Xperia ZL C6506 - 10.4.B.0.569
I went into the service menu and it says my bootloader can't be unlocked
Is there anyway to work around this and unlock it anyway? If not can I still root my phone?
If so please advise as to how. I looked on the forums but most posts relate to unlocked bootloader or
a different model or build.
If you need more info please let me know.
Thanks

You can root it and install recovery. Unfortunately you cannot unlock the bootloader.
This means that you can only flash stock based Roms, not any AOSP Roms like cyanogenmod, aokp, omni, p.a.c, etc... More specifically, you can only flash stock kernels. The ROM is Dependant on the kernel you are using. Stock kernel for stock Roms. Aosp kernel for aosp based Roms.
With Sony's devices (as of late anyway), the kernel is baked into the boot.IMG. And you can only alter, change, or flash a custom boot.IMG if your bootloader is unlocked. Sucks, but that's how it is.

Thanks for the info.
At least I can still root the phone which at this point was my primary interest.
As I mentioned I have not seen any rooting info for my particular build or model together. Am I missing something?
Did I not see it or has no one done it yet for this build/model setup.
Where would you suggest I go from here?

You need to downgrade to .423 stock kernel. Use Androxyde's Flashtool to flash that kernel.
Then use Doomlord's Rooting Toolkit to root your phone.
After that, flash the .569 kernel with Flashtool.
Now you can install NUT's dualrecovery.
Here are the steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2388946
At point 11. you flash the .569 kernel..
I have successfully rooted my phone.
However I can't figure out how to get it back to .569
Do I need to use the Flash and Stripped version(This seems to be linked to rooting)
Or can I just use this
[FTF] Xperia ZL (C6506) 4.3 - 10.4.B.0.569 - Generic US
Found at this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2637847
Edit:
On a side note will I be able to update to 4.4 Kitkat when it is released for my phone by the normal download
or will I have to flash it to keep the root?
Edit:
So I tried flashing the Full FTF but ended up losing root. I tried to do the other option of using the flash/stripped version but it says I need TWRP and there
is no version for the ZL only the Z. Will the Z one work or am I going about this the wrong way.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey,
There is recovery for the ZL, you can get it from Nut's site here http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Looks like his latest recovery is called "ZL-lockeddualrecovery2.7.95-BETA.installer.zip (9.35MB)" at the moment.
If you flash my build 569 and lost root then you used the untouched FTF from Sony and makes your phone completely stock.
What you wanna do is flash back to an old 4.1.2 that will let you obtain root with DoomLord's 1 click method.
Once root is on your phone, install Nut's DualRecovery from the link I just gave you.
Download my 2 files (stripped FTF and flashable zip) and copy the flashable zip on your SDCard.
Now reboot into recovery and flash the flashable zip, once it flashes successfully, power off your phone. DO NOT Reboot.
Use Flashtool and flash the stripped FTF and boot your phone.
You will be on rooted build 569 with root and dualrecovery already installed. :good:
-------
It was also suggested to me for my Xperia tablet that if you already had root and simply wanted to update, all you have to do is:
1) copy zip to SDcard
2) go into recovery and install zip (without wiping anything)
3) turn off phone
4) flash kernel via flashtool
But I haven't tested this way
Thanks Crash338 that worked
I now have a rooted phone with .569
