[Q] Rooting error. - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently rooted my ARC S and flashed the new ICS Official. My bootloader is unlocked.
After installing ICS, Root Check Basic says I dont have root access. Do i have to root the phone again? Can i do it the same way i did with Gingerbread?

You need to root again because official Updates doesn't come with root i don't really know how to root ics :/

[Q] [REQ] Android 2.3.3 for Xperia Neo flash

Does anyone have Android 2.3.3 for the Neo, if you have a flashed and rooted 2.3.2 and update it OTA to 2.3.3, your phone is bricked. I already have NEO-GLOBAL-3.0.A.2.181.ftf
Just use Wotanserver, it's free for now and works perfectly (did it myself a few days ago).
I will try to root my phone tomorrow. Have been busy all day rooting and unlocking the bootloader, but after flashing stuff 8 times or whatever, I ended up again with unrooted and relocked phone and again 2.3.3. Even bricked it sort of (only flashing worked), so I've learned a lot.
But I will NOT re-unlock the bootloader, only rooting. Does that really require flashing 2.3.2 (.181)?
@sdk16420,
Yes, you will still need to flash 2.3.2 if you want to root your phone using Gingerbreak.

In that case, this thread can be removed, also as mentioned before 2.3.3 is available at WotanServer...

Question about root then update.

What i know about rooting is that in order for it to be appreciated, you must unlock the bootloader. The thing is, i havent updated my software yet to 2.3.4. My question is will rooting and unlocking bootloader affect if update comes into my location? This is the reason why im sticking to stock rom now.

You can root and ota while keeping root without unlocking bootloader using Gingerbread or the new zergrush exploit. Search the forums. If you want to install custom roms (cwm or cm7.1) and kernals (overclock) then you need to unlock. But will not be able to update ever unless you relock

[Q] cant root with locked bootloader :/ ?Help

hi..
i wanted to root and then flash a costum rom on a xperia arc but im not getting root first...i used 2 methods for the locked bootloader the doomlord v1 and the Root_Exploit_OneClick both of these show me errors and the phone cant get root,i turned off every another process in the pc and the antivirus and still nothing...pls help me to root it...it is with locked bootloader..
Edit( i rooted it when i flashed a ready to root stock ics firmware and then with one click root method)
first of all you cant install a custom ROM with a locked bootloader... and the reason why your not getting a root is that your on .62 firmware and you can only root on .42 firmware... (NOTE: android version 2.3.4)

i have this version 4.1.b.0.431...what should i do to root with this firmware?
You have ICS https://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&sc...qf.,cf.osb&fp=c72d84806ae8a6&biw=1366&bih=667 that should help you
y the way there are 2 ways to root .431(4.0.4)
1) flash the .431 file and then flash the stock kernel of .562 ftf(i.e flash 4.0.4 and the flash only the kernel of 4.0.3) and then use doomlord one click method
2) flash a ready to root ftf file that already has the compiled things together.
(by the way, why dont you unlock your bootloader? because if anything goes extremely wrong it can only be corrected if you have an unlocked bootloader. and unlcoking bootloader is not risky infact it can be reocked again it will give you more choice to choose from various roms and kernels)
and note these methods work on unlocked bootloaders only.
these threads will help youon locked bootloader

[Q] how to root xperia arc with stock ICS

hey everyone,
I updated my Xperia Arc to ICS via the sony pc companion update. But how do I root this version? Should I go back to gingerbread and root it or is there a way to root it directly, without going back?
Thanks.
If you have firmware 4.1.b.0.431 for ICS 4.0.4 then https://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&sc...=667&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&cad=b or just search what ever firmware you have on google or xda
if you have ics 4.0.3 then u can root it using doomlords oneclick root method. if it is 4.0.4 then u need to flash kernel of 4.0.3 and then root and then u can come back to kernel of 4.0.4 by flashing just the orignal kernel again. or you can download a ready to root 4.o.4 ftf and then flash it on your phone using flashtool.
for 4.0.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038
for 4.0.4(ready to root) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
you can root your phone using these simple 3 methods in Here.
Does it void our warranty ?

well i am not 100% sure but i think that rooting wont void your warranty. unlocking bootloader voids your warranty because, root does not remain if you flash another firmware however, an unlocked bootloader is permanaent irrespective of what ever you install on it.
this was my logic however, remember dev's have shown how a bootloader can be relocked. get more info from here http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/

Then Just Root your phone, you don't need a custom Rom to have it rooted.
You can use Zergrush, PSNeuter and another method which I don't remember.
Or you can even have flashtool do it for you.
On 2.3.3 from my understanding you can root 2.3.4 stopped rooting and being unlocked if u go to 2.3.3 root and ota to 2.3.4 u will have a nice shiny brick I have a rooted 2.3.4 Android but won't use it as wifi is broke it wont connect but 2.3.3 would when I was unlocked so I could be wrong tho
