Why is phone "awake" so much? - LG Nitro HD

So I just looked at my battery usage and notices that my phone has been "awake" for such a long time. I know I haven't used it much at all today. Anybody have an idea why this is?
I would upload the screenshot, but its telling me that the file has the wrong extension. ???

I have a huge battery drain (about 60%) by OS Android proccess even in the standby mode. I don't know what to do with this ****. From 100% to 0% it takes about 6 hours my phone dies in standby mode (with CM9 rom), with stock rom my phone lives in standby mode about 2-3 days.

Sounds like you have a rouge app(s). Download Better Battery Stats and CPU Spy. Read their respective threads to understand how to use them. There are threads where people will help you interpret the logs these provide.

I agree with dnorthington. I had the same then I realized that drawfree was draining my battery in a matter of hours...

Android OS only reports such high values in ICS because it includes screen on time.

How do I detect the rogue app?

Did you download better battery stats and CPU spy? Look in the ATT Galaxy S II thread. There's a pretty good known battery drain thread. My idle drain is less than 2% part hour. My deep sleep is over 95% when idle. Has to be a rogue app.

I charged mine and let it sit for 7 hours. With wifi set to always on, I get 11% drain overall, 92% deep sleep and 6% at 192.

Battery drops?

Hi XDA
Was wondering if the amount of times i dropped my phone affect the battery life? It feels as if everytime i drop my phone and the batt flies out i feel as if my battery life decreases or am I hallucinating because recently i had 56% and dropped my phone when i booted up had 40%
Might be my mind but can someone clarify thanks
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Normal, booting up eats battery.
Try shutting down and booting back up, you will lose some battery.
But not 16%.

Android OS estimates discharge by 1% steps, but there are checkpoints at some percentages. You can Google this and read more in detail. That's normal behavior.

[Q] Horrible battery life.

I'm having awful battery life with my phone and I have no idea what is causing it. Yesterday I clocked it at 8 hours from full charge to about 10%. I barely used the phone. Very light use.
I already re-flashed several times including clean flashes. I had it in CM9 and now I'm on CM10 but it's still the same. I even tried replacing the battery but, as far as I can tell, I'm getting the same discharge rate. I tried charging it to full charge and then deplete it completely, but it doesn't seem to do any good.
Looking at the battery stats I can't see anything unusual. Screen and Cell standby are usually at the top of the list, with anything below it at pretty low percentages (lower then 10%).
Can this be a hardware issue? Appreciate any help!
I'm running cm10 with note 2 radio and CPU sleeper. I average 15-17hrs on battery .without CPU sleeper I average 10hrs.

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, CPU Sleeper and Juice Defender are both workarounds rather then solutions.
It seems like there's a fundamental issue here which I'm more interested to solve.

Get better battery stats and CPU spy. BBS can tell you if something is preventing your phone from sleeping, and CPU spy can show CPU usage over time, by clock speed.

I checked CPU Spy this morning to see how the CPU acted during the night and it seems to be ok. 61% @ Deep Sleep, 34% @ 384MHz and 2% @ 1512MHz. As far as I know this seems normal, but the battery drained from about 93% to about 72% during the night. I only leave WiFi on. Is this a normal drain rate?
It seems like BBS still needs more time before it can generate a report.

+2. It would wake my phone 200 times a day on aggressive. Not to mention occasional problems getting data to turn on when I woke phone. Battery seemed better without it.
Try Gsam. To see what apps are waking phone and using battery power. Maybe its the same as BBS...not sure..never tried BBS.
Remember...its not about total battery time...its more about screen on time. I get anywhere from 2 to 3 1/2 hours screen time. And gsam has me at 22 hours average battery life.
I know you said you depleted and recharged, but did you calibrate? That worked for me a while back, now I do it every time I flash a new from which is like once or twice a week.

I thought that the depletion and recharge *is* the calibration. How do I calibrate?

61% deep sleep is not good, or normal. I would look at BBS and focus on partial wakelocks to determine what is keeping your device awake.

Hey....good point! He said very light use....61 percent deep sleep is not light use....or overnight percentage. Something is waking the phone. A lot!

I'm kinda having a hard time interpreting BBS. I'd appreciate if you could take a look at the screenshots and maybe see if you notice anything suspicious.
Also, I checked the CPU States in BBS and it is listing better results. 84% @ DeepSleep, 13% @ 384MHz and 1.8% @ 1.51Ghz.
So I just had a major drain. About 40% battery gone after about 3.5 hours of hardly any use.
In Parital Wakelocks, BBS showed NetworkLoacationLocator at the top of the list. But the run time for that is listed for only 4.5 minutes. In the Kernel Wakelock I got "wlan_rx_wake" at the top of the list with a running time of 1h 11m. This seems suspicious to me. Any ideas what the hell is this and how to solve it?

Battery drain overnight

I don't know what is causing this massive battery drain overnight. It went from 99% to 29% in a matter of 7 hours overnight. Here's some screen shots from better battery stats and the android battery stats.
I'm not really sure how to solve this problem with the fast battery drain.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You'll have to post screen of kernel/partial wakelocks.

Here's some screen shots of a regular day for me. Didn't use the phone too much and it had dropped from 100% to 23% throughout the day.
Hopefully this will give some insight into the problem.
And if it helps I'm using CM10.1 nightlies from 1/27 and using the K747 kernel with the noop & ktoonservative settings.

Yeah I have the same problem. I dont know what to do anymore.

Does the DMA6 update resolve battery drain issue for you?

Hello All,
I just received the DMA6 update from Samsung... I know this update is new but it would be good if all of you can post your comments on the battery drain after this update.. Feel free to post screenshots of the battery..
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Since flashing my battery life and deep sleep battery life is greatly improved. Very pleased with this update.
Thanks for your reply.. I just installed the update and am a bit skeptical and feel as if the battery is draining faster when the screen is on.. Might be that when the phone is in idle or deep idle the battery would be dropping less significantly.. let us wait for other users to post their comments... hope fr the best...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I had no batt issues since upgrading to 4.1.2
with this new update battery life seems better. Left my phone at 10% before i slept and woke up to it still at 10% so deep sleep is really good
Thanks Paulito.. As i said i am suspecting that deep sleep is good now... but do you notice a faster drain when screen is on.. Do let us know.. I will also keep an eye on the battery stats for the coming weeks and keep all posted..

Guys, install Batter Monitor Widget and do a real test to see what your standby and screen on consumption is in %/hour. We need real numbers, not anecdotes.
With DLL7 I get between 0.6 and 2%/hour drain in standby. Screen on averages 10-18%/hour. Gaming is usually 30%/hour. Wifi on, brightness on auto, location on, Facebook , google plus, tapatalk and 2 gmail accounts syncing with notifications.
I'd love to see what this new firmware gets under those conditions .
I can't wait until it's available for my variant. On DLL3 my battery was terrible! I went back to 4.1.1 where I can easily go all day with 70% of my battery remaining.
I shall install the battery monitor widget and will upload my findings in a couple of days..

Well 4.5 hours of screen time isn't that good at 33%. I got 9 hours the other day. And still had 12% left.

I said battery seems the same mate the only thing that seems to be proved is deep sleep. I used to loose around 5 to 7 % in the night while sleeping and after the update I only loose 1 to 2 %.

Edit : Sorry for mislead but actually it was something bug that my stock battery status have not reported application which i have used, after restart its fine now
its <5%/hr only while screen on.

CPU runs at minimum speed <200Mhz is deep sleep
you need application (like better battery stats) to check it.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Nothing required to enable it,
it should go to deep sleep, if it doesn't go to deep sleep then you have to find out which process stoping it to do so.

Toro Battery calibration

Is it possible to calibrate the battery upon changing roms? I noticed that in the advanced menu in cwm that there is no 'delete batterystats.bin file' like there was on my Inc2. Also the battery calibration app says its not compatible with the Toro. Suggestions/ideas?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Battery calibration is all hype really. It does more harm than good. Allow your device a few charging cycles and it should handle it's own battery statistics (unless the battery happens to be faulty, but even then it isn't a problem with the device itself) . That's what it was built to do.
I only ask because last night I noticed extreme battery drain. 35% to 10% in 7 hrs....no 4g no WiFi no GPS. I didn't even touch the phone (I was asleep). This concerns me. My last device would drain MAYBE 10% throughout the night under the same conditions

Check for rogue apps. Better battery stats app will help identify which apps are creating excessive wakelocks or keeping processes running.
