Deaf One X? - HTC One X

I've just upgraded to a One X on Three (UK) from a HTC desire.
I've been wandering around town near some local masts and with the two phones on the same network.
The best signal I can get on the Desire is -65dbm which is stood around 100m from the mast.
The One X reads -83dbm in the same sport and will not go any better no mater where I go.
Has anyone else noticed this with theirs or is this a fault?
Thanks
Huw

I did the same as you, upgraded my desire on 3uk to a one X. Not noticed any difference in signal quality but not really tested either, though I have had my one X since first day of release.
I would say that the one X is a new phone that is sure to get many updates, signal is sure to improve in much the same way as our trusty desires did

I wonder if this is a limitation in software rather than hardware? I do remember the desire getting somewhat better over its lifetime.

When i got desire on release signal was bad but it got a few radio updates that really helped

HTC Desire. Still the best around?

With all the new versions of the Desire becoming available is the original Desire still the best?
I love my desire and I've had it for about 10 months or so. The wife's contract is due for renewal soon and she does seems to like my HTC desire.
It would be her first smart phone.
I'm very pleased with mine. I am currently running an older LeeDroid ROM (Soon to be upgraded with his latest to be released version).
Would the original Desire still cut the mustard for the next 18 months or so?
Desire has been around for around 1 Year and till today it is one of the top phones. I own a Desire myself and have to say it's a great phone till today.
There's quite alot of phones coming out but nothing amazing has come out yet.
Not many people like the new Desire S because it's not that different from the standard Desire.Just a tiny bit different in memory.
Desire HD is quite big and battery life is appaling.
Desire Z quite heavy.
All the new versions aren't that amazing that would make me jump to them instead of staying with my Original Desire.
I've heard good things about the samsung galaxy S 2 which is coming out in March. If you want to consider that.

True that - I was expecting dual-core HTCs early this year.
The way I see it, the Desire would probably get left behind by HTC in the following 3 or 4 months (right after we get the official Gingerbread in April) to make room for their newer (dual-core?) models. After that? Well, it's up to us to keep it "alive and kicking" with new ROMs and crazy experimental stuff.
I think for new people the Desire S is probably a good choice... enough internal memory and a good size.
I think this is the point of the S... to be something to bring new people in. I love the desire original and wouldn't upgrade to an S

I think it is one of the best phones around still around.
I like the Desire S, think it looks quite nice, but not enough internal differences to justify an upgrade just yet.
I don't really like the Desire HD. Much too large to use with just one hand. Desire Z is a bit heavy, but I guess it caters for the people who prefer a physical keyboard.
I've still got about 14 months left with my Desire, so nearly 18 months, and I'm more than sure it'll be just fine for that amount of time.
what phone does your wife have at the moment?
I assume not a Desire - Desire / Desire S would make sense unless she wanted a bigger screen (Desire HD)
for me - like Jigswa said - the DHD is too big personally...
Oh also - unless you want rooting and custom roms and stuff - a DS would make sense (over the Desire Original) if you can hold out for it...
The only reason I say it is because its likely to be around for longer than the Desire original from an official capacity...

She's currently got a Nokia 6700 I think. Nothing fancy. But with her love of Facebook and Angry Birds she want's to now get a smart phone. Oh and something she can use for mobile broadband i.e. tethering.
A colleague of mine has just got a Galaxy S and to me it seemed a bit lightweight and felt plasticy.
I'm, trying to get her a decent 18 month contract. I've seen a few good little deals.
She probably won't want exactly the same phone as me. So maybe a Desire S would be the better option.
Had 2 iPhones before finally taking the plunge into Android. Had my eye on the Desire for awhile and thank god I finally bought it. Running the Oxygen Gingerbread rom ATM.. easiest thing in the world to get running. Had it for about 8 months now too but I won't be upgrading atleast until dual-core htc's.
I know exactly where you are coming from with the Galaxy S feeling light and plasticy - the Desire feels more substantial - as long as you don't want a super light phone!
Also I felt the UI was clunky and too iPhone-esque
the DHD felt heavier than the Desire too.
Desire S will fix any issues with installing stuff to the phone too by having the same storage space as the DHD - it will have Gingerbread out the box, and a nice clean Sense UI win win all round.
Desire S seems a perfect phone for people who don't have Android already IMO!
Apart from weak GPU, weak multi-touch in games, and lack of native DIVX support, I think Desire is still a good phone if those are not important too you. The battery and the internal memory are not issues for me anymore with custom ROMS and HBOOT.
HTC Desire Is 5x better then S(boottime, apps launchtime..so many bugs) i realy like my Desire Using 8 months

It is simply amazing how many people claim this, someone would get under impression it is true...
Desire S has moar internal memory, moar ram, packs 2nd generation Qualcomm cpus which rectify the first gen shortcomings, and on top of that, has better battery. Although it is not in the upgrade path for the original Desire owners, it is an upgrade nevertheless and excellent choice for the new users. You are trashing a device with superb specifications b4 it even went retail.

I agree, a colleague of mine has it. My fist is of enough size to comfortably use the biggest mices, yet I can't reach the opposite end of the screen with my thumb
Battery is roughly equal to the original Desire, both devices out of the box.
The biggest issue in my opinion is that they stuffed equal resolution on 0.6" bigger screen. Greater dot pitch usually means lower quality, I haven't used it enough to be 100% sure though.

The original Desire still has a lot of processing grunt compared to newer phones. Nothing is really better than it so to speak, a few phones are better at some things and worse at other but generally it's pretty level and just comes down to prefferance on a few features.
It'll be a sad day when I do retire my Desire its served me well so far and has at least a year left in it.

Using my desire over 10 months now. I'm still satisfied with it's performance.
It 's my first htc phone.
I've had some doubts about build quality before, because that was told to me.
I can say that i'm suprised. Beeing always in my pocket without case or screen protection, it is still looking like new.
It is still fast en reliable.
If i would by a new phone, would be desire again or maybe thinking about desire S.
my fist android
From a long line of old symbian nokias i finally decided to make a hole in my budget and to get a new phone. As i was keeping a close eye on Android and the HTC Desire for some time i got that phone.
It was a very good phone with it's stock froyo, and know it's an excellent phone with the Oxygen rom.
As some of the other members say, i do not see any good reason to upgrade maybe until dual-core HTC's come out.
The normal Desire is still up-to-date. But when the Desire S will be out there in the wild it will be the better one. Still that quite compact design, whithout the week points the original archives (internal mem, multitouch).
The cost-benefit analysis will show up that the older Desire will still be ok for a long time even bought new.
I bought my desire 3 months ago, and the only thing that annoys me is the 2-point touchscreen... Multi-touch is a must to a device like this but we can't have everything so apart from that is the best phone i've ever had ! Desire S is cool but in my opinion at the moment we're between a generation change so next stop is dual core, and desire s is single core. I will change my phone next year probably to a htc dual-core that will be announced this year.
My good old desire never lets me down !
I agree with everyone here. It has been an amazing phone. Its handled mass rom fllashhing and crazy overclocking and its handled it brilliantly. Had no problems with it at all. Rather have this than a Nexus, but I would like a DHD because the bigger screen.
I got a Galaxy Tab 4 months ago and since then my Desire has been neglected as it doesn't compete with the Tab. Recently got back into using it and I've realised why I fell in love with it.

I suggest you stick around with the HTC Desire till the end of the year or whenver Dual Core phones are released. The new models don't offer much of an advantage and I heard the HTC Desire HD has worst voice quality sound than the Desire....... The voice quality sound on the Desire is pretty terrible so I don't know how HTC managed to make it even worst with the Desire HD.
hopefully it will still work
I am not one for changing my phone when something new comes out and unless something breaks it will have to last me 2 years. The worry I have is will the microusb connecter last that long. Supposedly is it designed for up to 10,000 cycles of insertion but my niece has some sort of nokia with this connecter and its a struggle after 14 months to get it to charge (I have had to give her my htc lead and charger as it is the only one that works).
I don't like capitative keys, I had the ipod that had them and it was god awful to use , too sensitive. So the desire s is a step back from my pov
The desire is a nice phone and does me very well thanks

What Will be your next Android Phone

Hi All
I want to generate a poll about you, desire users.
About using my desire after a year I'm planing to change it.
Some of the reasons,
Low internal storage
Mismultitocuh screen
Lower process power than new phones.
You! Desire User! Which one you ll buy?
You can write your own models...
My choice is SGS2

Never had problems with my desire I would keep it if I could but Im just a tech freak and i like the new stuff so far my fav android phone when I will be able to upgrade is sgs2 though I am not sure about the size, ill check it out better when it will be more accessible

HTC Sensation/SGS2 - depends on the hands-on test, when I'm tested them both.
I'm little angry with touchscreen of my desire and htc.
And as I search for some touchscreen documents and i saw that Samsung using best Touchscreen hardware. (ATMEL)
And also SAMOLED+ pulling me.
Sensation has lower internal memory that makes me angry.

My answer is none of those lol..i'm just not impressed enough by the new dual-core processors, i guess i'll wait for some 2ghz(+) one before i drop my Desire
Something that will have an android 2.4 already. Im going to wait till google i/o next month. We might see some monster phones before the year ends that runs on 2.4.
I will not buy a SGS2 cause i might wait another year just for me to get an upgrade knowing how much crap they put on touchwiz. It will take them forever just to port 2.4 on on sgs2. The same for sensation.
No matter what, I am waiting for 2012 for a new phone for a couple of reasons.
1) I want a brilliant dual core (1.5GHz)
2) My contract doesn't run out till Dec this year anyway.
The Desire is still one of the most powerful phones on the market and getting something like a Nexus S will be defeating the purposes of upgrading. So dual core for me with a pretty good graphics chip. Not bothered about OS version. 2.3 is good enough for me.
I think it's good time to sell my desire, it makes 300$ in Turkey now adays and this is a good number for here. If i wait for some more time , i cant sell it for this number.
I think sensation and sgs2 will take 2.4 easily

Same here. Don't see the point upgrading to another single core.
None of the Poll devices. My next phone will have HW keyboard. But not sure will I get a new device for years. Desire rocks. Been rocking a year next month.
I will possibly get the HTC Sensation, provided it's rootable and "s-offable" not too long after release.
I got the Incredible S but only kept it a couple of weeks because it's too heavily protected (signed bootloader says hello). It was a nice phone though but my Desire can do much more so I went back to it.
Same here. My contract end in 2012 and there is currently no worthy replacement for my Desire with CM7.

Do you have a source for this?
Because I was really looking forward to a GSM version of this. HTC France twitter said something about getting it and france uses GSM.
I do like the look of the Optimus 3D but LG is a bit meh...
and I love HTC sense!
I'm most probably going to buy the HTC Sensation. The only thing I can think of that would make me change my mind would be the battery life. If the phone can't handle over a day of medium to heavy usage, I'm not going to buy it. I complained endlessly when I get my Desire because of it's terrible battery life. Then I found out that good Android phones don't really get much better battery life.
Hmmm...I don't plan to get a new phone this year...but....
I vote for Sensation.

[Q] HTC One X...will you be getting one?

For me, my Desire HD does WAYYYY more than I need, which is cool....but the geeky side of me is starting to twitch when I saw this:
HTC One X
http://www.htc.com/uk/smartphones/htc-one-x/
http://androidheadlines.com/2012/03/htc-one-x-specifications-first-take.html
"HTC has stated that they took a bit of a downturn last year releasing too many devices and adding too much to their once lauded Sense UI. For 2012 they intend to attack the smartphone market with a renewed sense of purpose and with an entirely new line of products with the recently announced HTC One line. The headliner of the new trio is the HTC One X announced at Mobile World Congress as a Tegra 3 sporting quad core beast of a phone meant to put HTC back on the map.
The requirements for being part of the One series are Authentic Sound which is provided by the integrated Beats Audio and an Amazing Camera with HTC’s own image software and new ImageChip. In the U.S. however the One X will feature a dual core 1.5Ghz Snapdragon because when the phone was being designed to run on AT&T’s LTE network the Tegra 3 did not support LTE though it does now so the U.S. version suffers on the front. It will however ship with the latest version of Sense 4.0 and Ice Cream Sandwich."

I'm on pay as you go, got my desire off Ebay months ago, in absolutely MINT condition, never failed me once....but if/when this get's released in UK.....I just know I won't be able to resist.....i'll wait til it's been out a couple of months, and get one off Ebay.....finances say "NO"

I will be getting one for sure! My question is can i get an international version with the quad core processor and still use it with my sim card? If not I will still get the XL but still bummed about only getting a dual core over here...
never-mind answered my own question. it will work as long as it operates on a 850 and 1900mhz bands! sweet!!!!!
hoping it will be....
what a specs? hoping it will be released by May here in downUnder, that's when am eligible for an early upgrade...cant wait...
I'm not due an upgrade until December (stupid 2 year contract!) but this is already shaping up to be the phone I get. Looks awesome and nice specs too + with any luck by the time I do upgrade the community will already have some awesome custom ROMs released. I'll be happy not to be an early adopter for once
Either the x or the v...but weirdly I'm hoping that dome devs release an asop to her...from what I've seen with sense 4 yeah looks a bit different but not majorly overhauled...but then how would the dropbox work...surely it'd have to be linked to the handset...so custom roms...hmm lol who knows...but sadly yes I will have the urge to get one...can't help myself

From what I have seen of this, and assuming that there is not another killer phone comes out before my current contract expires in Jun I would definitely get one of these!
I love my HD2, but it is starting to get a bit dated!
I bought DHD about 15 months back it has served as a good replacement for my Nokia N79, but the battery life is really bad in this. I have just purchased GT-N7000 Hope to get some good juice out of it before I think of going for One X, sure One X has better specs then any current Android mobile, but you may want to wait for Samsung S3.

Read back to the comments on DHD forums when that came out. Same with the Sensation. They both had teething issues for some users, and I don't regret getting either. There will always be people with problems, and they will be the most vocal.

OI! Thats my phone, get yourself something else!!!
I recommend iPhones to most people only because most people I know just want something easy to use. Not that Android is easy, but Apple is easier and they can just take it into an Apple Store if something doesn't work. The support system is much better.
HOWEVER, the One X is a much better phone than anything else on the market!
short answer: yes
long answer: alot of yes
The choice is yours I've gone from dhd to the one x don't think I would look back either
Screen crisp clear
Build fantastic
Use smooth and quick
Really light weight
Yes there is reports of minor issues on some of them but its nothing major and will be fixed the only I have is battery life mine dies faster that my gf she got 18 hours out of first charge the difference is I'm a heavy user she isn't
The rest of reported issues I've not had

I guess U should. Since U are coming from desire.
But for me, the reason I got one was initially because of the "big" screen. Am using a titan currently and absolutely love the screen minus the lower pixel count. When I got One x, I was quite disappointed actually. I dun quite like the material used and the "bigger" screen. Its the screen ratio that actually turned me off.. The screen is taller but not really much wider than my trusty hd2. So, the "bigger screen is not what I had expected. Speed wise, blazing fast compared to my hd2. But, do I really need blazing? I guess not.. I can bare with a few millisec of waiting time. So, I am kinda disappointed tbh. IMHO.
Anyone had THE argument yet?
oops
Yes, but wait for the battery saving update coming and for some cases in the shops. My camera feels way to exposed to scratches so have ordered a clear back case which is 10 days away. Screen is amazing compared it to s2 and iPhone 4s and they don't even come close.
I came from HTC desire.

#Smeagol off
I'd recommend it, but if you are the kind of user who wants a flawless experience from the start = wait 2 weeks so all the bugs are updated.
My first few hours coming from a DHD I was sceptical because I was so used to the DHD and the Virtuous affinity ROM is amazingly smooth.
After 1 day I am completely loving the one x.
It's holding battery much better than my DHD with the same accounts syncing too.
The camera and screen are actually stunning, not just a turn of phrase. I was jaw dropped streaming HD and filming 1080p.
I actually prefer using my one x with headphones for media than my laptop and TV put together now
I recommend it.

Honestly, no. Not yet.
I would wait to see what HTC do to address the awful battery life and overheating before buying.
If the reviews would have been more realistic, I would have been in a better position to judge.
Feel let down by the main reviewers, but then they did have an update that us mere peasants aren't allowed. Sketchy move from HTC if you ask me, the phone we get is not what was reviewed. Foul.

Because they needed to get it to them before the reviews were published, so that they'd reflect what HTC intended the user experience to be like before the handset was released to the public later that week.
Sensible though that strategy is, it sort of comes undone when you don't push that update to the retail handsets in time for them going on general sale. I imagine it was because the 1.27 update was a quick hack to fix the major outstanding issues that would be likely to turn up in reviews, whereas 1.28 would need to be fully tested before being delivered (because having effectively supplied a handset with pre-release software there'd be hell on if the first update didn't work perfectly), but it could still have been handled better.
YESS u should..but to each his own...
For the screen size remarks....
I`m coming from the DHD and the Sensation XE.
And i`m loving the new bigger screen.
The colors,..The sharpness it`s just a marvel
But again what works for one doesn`t have to work for all.

Is the HTC One V worth getting?

Hi guys and girls
I lost access to my old XDA account but I decided to make a new one so here I am.
I used to be very active in the HTC Wildfire section but my contract with Three ran out so it's time for upgrading my device and I have chosen to go with a Virgin Mobile contract that includes the HTC One V Device.
So what I am basically asking is after viewing some reviews for myself I would like to know the following...
1) Is the HTC One V a smooth, fast and reliable device with it's stock ROM?
2) Is the device up to standards for example is it as good as you thought it would be?
3) Do you personally think that the HTC One V is better than the HTC Wildfire and if so why?
Also I have seen some videos on YouTube and some people were saying that the device has a battery that cannot be detached and others were showing the device with a detachable battery so are there two different versions of the same phone? :S
Thanks guys

2) Mine is so much better than I thought. It just works. Of course I came from an Optimus V so it's definitely a big improvement.
3) Everything I've heard says this thing beats the Wildfire out of the water!
I should note that the One V (among other phones) is 20% off at virginmobileusa.com right now. I paid full boat for mine now I wish I had waited a few weeks! Oh well no complaints.
Mine does NOT have a detachable battery but if you hold the power button down for ten seconds it forces it to power off.
Yes,
I recently moved from a desire,.
The Desire is very similar in specs to the One V, but:
* much brighter screen
* no messing with data2sd, or other scripts. Given the nand size of the V I reinstalled all the same 92 apps as my desire, room for way more. And way faster and smoother as everything is on the nand. I believe this will apply to you as well coming from the wildfire.
*having the latest and greatest is awesome. (ics and sense 4.0) On my desire I had all the "smooth rosie" tweaks I could find to flatten 3d effects etc. Speed was more important to me. Because of this I do NOT mind that we are missing 3d effects that the S and X have.
Make the move Dude, you'll Love this phone if you liked the wildfire.

I just got it last friday and I love it.
Better than My nexus S and that lame zte avail.
I understand you are not first to an android phone. So to answer your 3rd question first - Wildfire is NOT a competition for One V (in all regards). And question 2, yes it is better than what I thought it would be. and finally to question 1. It will surely depend on what you intend to do with the phone. If you are looking to buy an everyday phone, One V will be a good option (I am on stock ROM)
