Charge the Int'l Note using 2A charger - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Accessories

I have an unused Galaxy Tab 7 Plus charger, which output 2A instead of 1A that the original Note charger output.
Is it OK to use the GT7 charger with higher output to charge the Note? If yes, this will save me buying another Note charger.

It's okay as long the voltages are the same. The phone will take 1 amp of current and the rest alone.
I am using a 2amp charger from hp touch pad with no issues for months.
Edit : my car chargers are 2amp too

Thanks for the info.
Both the Galaxy Tab and Note chargers have 5V output, with only differences in Amperage, which is 2A for Tab and 1A for Note.
So looks like I am good to go!

Yes.

yeh its fine, the phone will only take as much current as it needs, the 2amp rating is just the maximum posible output from the charger.

[Q] What car/wall chargers are safe for Nexus? 0.85A? 1.0A? 2.0A?

Hi,
I have some chargers at home and they all have different Amperes in their specs (see title).
Nexus comes with 1.0A wall charger.
Is it safe to use lower or higher ampere chargers?
For instance I have a 2.0A car charger which I bought for my iPad2:
Not sure if it's safe to use it.
Thanks!
Don't use anything over 5V/1A as it might fry your device. <1A should be no problem, <0.5A will be quite ineffective.

Thanks!
Then I need a new 1A car charger. That's not very good as I will need to have two chargers in the car (1A and 2A) because 1A is ineffective for iPad2.
From what I've read, the rated Amp doesn't matter. A 2A will work fine, but Nexus can only draw up to 1A no matter what.

If the Nexus handles it the right way .. yes. Until Samsung or Google tell me it's ok, I won't try it with my device, though.
FWIW, Apple says that it's okay to use he 2A iPad charger for its iPhone.

Note 10.1 Chargers

Could anyone check the current rating of the supplied charger?
My Note should be arriving soon from the UK - although I could use an international plug converter, I don't really like the idea.
On the other hand I have a Belkin charger for my iPhone for 0.5A. Do you think this is enough?
Thx.
No. The original charger has an output 2 A at 5 V. And even with 2 A the Note 10.1 is only slowly charging.
The charger is rated 2A.
In addition, it uses a nonstandard method for "dumb charger" detection. If you connect an iPad charger or a standard 2A charger, it will not be detected.
The device needs to see D+ and D- shorted together AND floating at around 1.2 volts to charge. Same rules as all other Samsung tablets.
It is possible to find special Samsung Tablet charging adapters that will let it be used with iPad 2A chargers - here's an example of a DIY one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675042

will work - if those links break, just search for "P1000" on dealextreme - The charger standard and detection mechanism are common for all known Galaxy Tab models.
I'm using the same ones I had for the 7.0+ and 7.7 and they're charging the 10.1 just fine. Looks like .35A (old eyes here)!
The Tab 10.1 charger should work, right?

Tab 10.1 chargers will work. In fact I haven't even pulled my original charger out of the box, using the Tab 10.1 charger I already have.

My Note won't charge from an iPad charger but it has no trouble charging from an inexpensive PowerGen charger with the original Samsung cable or a cheap copycat cable.

I guess apple and samsung are real bussiness enemies
But, it's still better to use the original charger. And yes correct, with the 2A output rated, the note also slowly charge. Different from the N7000, which is quite fast to charge.
Can anyone link me to an identical charger to that which came out of the box that I can buy? Need to return my Note 10.1 but I have lost my cord.
Edit: Or one that at least looks identical.
Here's a good deal on the OEM charger. Be careful on eBay and Amazon, a lot of what's sold there are knock-offs.

And the 5V car charger too...

I may pull the trigger on one of these. However, it is disconcerting to see a review of a cord that is also marketed as a a Galaxy Tab cord being reported by a reviewer on amazon as not fitting or charging.
Here's that cable:

Do you have personal experience with this cord from all4cellular fitting/charging your note 10.1 device?

The cord on Amazon's probably a knock-off. Yes, I've bought from all4cellular before. I've also gotten burned a couple of times on Amazon and eBay. E-mail them and confirm what's listed on their website is a genuine Samsung product. It may be shipped in a cellophane package vs. retail packaging but that won't matter as long as it’s OEM.

If you wish to burn your GN 10.1, yes. Otherwise, for your safety, no.
There are plenty of car chargers on eBay for the Note & Tab 10.1.
There is a brand called Pleomax, which is another brand name of Samsung accessories out of Korea.
You can also get a Samsung Note 10.1 charger (which is really the same as the Tab) for about 18.00 and plus 3.50 for shipping.
See eBay Item number: 160865117877. This is the one I just purchased.
The Note and Tab chargers are all 12v and 2a rated.

No... They are not. 5 volts output at up to 2A, not 12 volts.
Car chargers accept 12 volt INPUT, but the OUTPUT (to the Tab/Note) is 5v.
12v will fry the Tab/Note. The Note and Tab use a more standard charger detection algorithm than Asus Transformers (which actually have 12v charging...)

Correct. 5v output. I guess I didn't express that clearly.

[Q] Better to use the 2amp or use a 1amp charger?

My wifes Galaxy S3 came with a 1amp charger. My note 2 came with a 2amp. Would it be better to charge the note 2 with the 1amp charger vs the 2amp? I remember reading a post that said the 1amp charger would take longer but the battery would hold that charge longer/better than what the 2amp would provide. The 2amp would charge it faster but the charge wouldn't be as good/longer lasting.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
Either one will work. I would use the 2 amp one. Just because the charger outputs 2amps it doesn't mean the phone will draw all 2amps.
the 2 amp charger won't get drawn for all 2 amps, but it will get drawn more than 1 amp. charging slower (with the 1 amp) won't mean it will keep the charge any better
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
if you need speed use the 2amp. if you don't need speed you can extend the life of your battery by using the 1amp. (slower charge is healthier for the battery in the long run though not likely measurable by the likes of us)

There is a reason Samsung included the 2amp charger. The Note 2 has a huge battery. The 2 amp charger will charge your note 2 faster. The device draws the amount of amps it needs. The charge is held the same way, doesn't matter the amps. Im sure Samsung wouldn't include a charger that would damage/negatively effect the battery.

A better charger?

So after having owned the Toshiba Thrive and now am using the Samsung Note 10.1, I have to say I'm disappointed at how slowly the Note 10.1 charges... Even after leaving the Note plugged in to the stock Samsung 5V 2A charger while using it, I can discharge it faster than it can charge (mostly playing games), which is sourly disappointing.
I saw a singular 5V 3A charger on Ebay, but it was for a car... not to mention no telling if it was legit.
So does anyone have any suggestions on a better charger?

There isn't one- there's two charging modes- "high-power" and "USB", and the rates are set by the hardware (with help from the kernel software) so getting a 3A supply won't charge it any faster.

I believe the Toshiba Thrive has a 10.8 volt 2030 mah battery and the charger puts out 19 volts........ so it should charge a lot faster.
The 5v 3a chargers generally are a 2 port charger and one port usually puts out 2a and the second only 1a.

Stock Charger or 2.1 Amp Charger

My question is would using a 2.1 amp wall charger over the stock charger pose any danger of damaging my Flo?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
My stock charger is still unwrapped.
I'm using a 2A charger for all my tabs (Nook HD+, Nook Touch, old & new N7s).

The charger spec just lists the max output. The tablet is the one that decides how much current to pull. So it is safe to use the 2 amp charger.
How fast will it charge with an 2,1 amp charger ?

At this point, I don't think it has been determined. Install a battery monitor to see if it draws more current with a 2a supply over the stock 1.3a.
I am living in Germany so I don't have a Nexus 7 yet. But the charger of my mobile phone is broken and I would buy the 2amp charger, if it charges faster because I can use it with my Nexus 7, too.

There is something to be aware of when buying a 2a supply. The original Nexus 7 required the data pins (2 and 3) of the charger to be shorted in order to draw full current (don't know if the new one behaves similarly).
The majority of usb chargers out there are designed with Apple products in mind, which shunt a resistive load across these pins to tell the device how much current is available. The result of using the original Nexus 7 with these chargers is that the device only draws about an amp.
My experience has been that HTC chargers have the correct pins shorted, while Monoprice's do not. Your on your own with any other brands. You'd need to measure those pins with an Ohm meter to be sure.
