I originally rooted my phone with Revolutionary. I kept the Sprint stock ROM. I want to give this phone to a family member and wanted to receive the latest OTA update.
Following instructions I found here, I achieved S-ON. Here is my boot information.

However, whenever I try the Sprint OTA update, I still get the triangle with the exclamation point.
Did I do something wrong? Do I need to flash a RUU - if so, which one? Please advise on what I need to do to update the phone?
BTW...the phone works just fine as is, but I would like to give my family member the ability to install OTA updates.
Thank you so much for helping with this issue.

Here you go:
Captain_Throwback's Unroot Method:

and just in case Football's Supersonic RUU folder:

You will need the 4.67 RUU.
When I needed to unroot. I flashed the modified 6.17 HBOOT and then ran the RUU through Fastboot. I was back to stock.
every single hboot zip doesnt work and all the RUU file ive tried off the web including here have all said bad file..im sooo frustrated can someone please help
@klm56
If you have issues unrooting, you also could just flash the latest stock ROM. I'm sure the Evo won't be getting any more OTAs, given that it's already EOL according to sprint.

So i've been rooted for almost a month now and I tried to unroot today to take the phone to sprint for technical difficulties and now I'm stuck in bootloop.
I was in 2.1. Loaded a custom rom that had Froyo 2.2, VirusRom something..
This is what I did:
I downloaded:
RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_C
L195459.exe...
And used HTC Sync to run this. At the end I got a bootloader 140 error saying that it could not update my phone.
Then when it restarted it was bootlooping. I tried to flash the custom ROM back on it but it didn't do anything. Still bootlooping. I do not have a nand backup (unfortunately) and I think I have lost root, for the sheer fact that when I load into recover It does not give me the option to Update when it finds PC36.IMG
This is what My Bootloader screen looks like:

Do you want to reboot device?
Vol up> YES
Vol down> NO
Am I bricked or is there some sort of solution to this..?? Someone please help!!
I would think it's because your phone has Froyo but are running a 2.1 RUU. The RUU won't let you downgrade. Try finding a 2.2 RUU and running that.
If I do find a 2.2 RUU.. How will I run it, I can't access my phone's software. I'm limited to recovery and bootloader..
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you can run the RUU when your phone is in the bootloader. Or you could find a stock froyo PC36IMG, put it on the root of your SD and run it from from the bootloader.
I'd bet my middle testicle that you're not bricked.
Here is the stock 2.2 RUU. Try running it, let me know what happens.
Yes thanks so much worked wonders.!! I had to use Fastboot and Plug in my USB for it to work right.
By the way, where do I go from here.. I'm still trying to unroot so i can factory reset (out the box)..
If that worked and you're S-ON (which you said you were in the OP), then you are officially unrooted and back to stock 2.2.
I was following [GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G. I did everything the guide told me to and when I did the reboot bootloader it the PC36IMG.zip and let me apply it after that point it continues to go into HBOOT and I have tried searching all over and I cannot seem to find a clear cut answer on how to fix it.

You may have flashed the wrong pc36img, try running the RUU from here . You won't have root at first but it will give you 3.29 which is easy to root.
Which root guide should I use for the version of RUU you recommend?

If the 3.29 RUU installs for you, Unrevoked 3.21 will most likely work to root.
unrevoked is one click, but then you have to learn how to stand while you are already on your feet. i reccomend doing it manually. maybe take one more shot, and if that fails, ruu and use unrevoked.
Will I be able to load a custom rom after or do i still need to do more?
Never mind I finally figured out why it would not work I had to do unrevoked twice before it finally worked. Thanks for your guys help.
Hey everyone,
I need some quick guidance. I'll be moving over to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus within the next few days (when it arrives in the mail) and I need to get my Evo 4G back to stock and get the root off (as if I just purchased it from Sprint) because I'll be selling it back to Sprint for a little account credit.
This is currently what shows in my HBOOT:

Can anyone point me in the right direction of how to return it to 100% stock with no root access?
Thanks a lot!
Ricky
Your gunna have to downgrade your radio to 11.19, or earlier. Then you can use unrevoked forever, and use an ruu to downgrade back to froyo. You could just try using a 3.70 ruu, it may upgrade your hboot, and turn security on automatically.
Can you downgrade the radio just by flashing an earlier version?
Yes.. if using recovery to flash, remember it will reboot once during the install process after you select reboot now... Do not pull the battery, just wait... Or brick your phone will be.
Alright, I downgraded my radio to the 2.15.00.11.19 version and used Unrevoked S-ON and it looks like my radio and S-ON are exactly as they should be.
Where do I find the RUU executable to run on my PC to restore the phone now?

Morning,
I'm new to the rooting and unrooting procedures. I bought my phone rooted from a freind and until recently its been having hardware issues that are not being caused by the os. I can make the phone do whatever is needed with enough time just need the correct instructions and files...
I'm not sure exactly what is needed but what i'm currently running 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-g8913be8shade or Cyanogenmod-7.1.0. Recovery mode is Build RA-Supersonic-v3.11.gnm and bootloader.

With all that information being said I'm not really sure which instructions to follow whether using revolutionary or unrevoked. And what files i need to download specifically.
I know how to flash new roms and that i need a pc36img.zip to reset the bootloader and the os currently installed.
I need to take my phone to sprint and most likley get a new phone or warranty it so i need to return it back to sprints roms and S-ON.
Thanks for any help in advance.

I think I answered you over on Android Central.
I've been having a lot of trouble unrooting my HTC Evo. I've worked through a lot of the methods I've found posted but nothing has worked. I could really use some help.
The phone was rooted about a year ago. I rooted the phone, but never flashed a different version. It's been on the original rooted version since it was done.
I'm currently running Android 2.3.3
I've got Superuser installed with Clockwork Mod for Recovery
This is what I have done so far.
I downloaded the unrevoked S-On tool and ran it. It didn't work and or didn't change to S-on I tried it at least a dozen times and kept getting an error.
I then ran a different version of the radio because it was recommended and It Did Work.
I then tried Unrevoked S-On again and it still wouldn't work.
I then saw a thread that said to flash the PC36IMG and it would then change the S to On after I did it. I couldn't get the PC36IMG to flash I kept getting an error on that.
I've looked all over for a possible solution and haven't been able to find one. The phone is having some technical issues with the screen and I need to take it back in to Sprint to have it repaired or switched out. If someone could help me I really appreciate it. I don't know if I posted this in the right place, this is my first post.

Thanks in advance for all your help,

Try this
I am on HBoot 2.18, so you may or may not have to do this. I was on Decksreloaded and could not unroot to take the phone in to sprint. I had to flash a sence rom, follow the unroot instructions, then flash an unrooted stock rom. It would not work with decks on the phone. Not sure why that mattered, but it did.
It worked. Thanks for all your help!
