Good day.
Like the title says, occasionally I get a TV noise effect, the time I unlock my phone. Not life breaking, but does bug me, to be honest. At first, I thought it was related to the "Screen On/Off" animation, but enabling/disabling it didn't help anyhow. Any advice how to get rid of it?
Didn't find any info on the web regarding this, so came here to ask.
My specifications:
CM 7.1.0.1
HCDR.Kernel v4.2
HBoot - 6.01.1002
Radio - 3.35.19.25
S-OFF
Hmm... Is this with the phone set to silent/vibrate or ring?

With the default profile, when sound is on. The TV effect lasts less than a second, just before the lockscreen appears and it seems to occur, when the phone has been lying around for a while, like the first unlock in several minutes/hours.
Also, I have a "Launcher Pro Plus" and "LunarUI Black" theme installed, if that helps.

Does it still make the sound if you put it on silent? I don't think the launcher/theme have anything to do with this, but try another launcher/theme and see if that fixes it.

I think you misunderstood me. It's not related to the sound. I get a screen noise, like you know, on those old TVs, when the TV lost the signal.

Yeah, I know, it's the default sound for the Screen On/Off animation. Which means it is related to the sound. However, why you still get it when you have the animation turned off is a mystery. Did you follow any of the advice I gave you?
After playing around with the launcher/theme, nothing happened. So, a few days ago I replaced the kernel again, from "HCDR.Kernel v4.2" back to "InfinityPLAY v10". And the screen noise is gone!

Well, at any rate, it fixed the issue. Glad to know it's stopped causing trouble!

Hey all,
I experienced something a few mintues ago. I installed a new rom, Blissdroid. I 'discovered' that the backlight of the touch input (under the screen) was reacting dynamicly to sunlight. It went off in full sun. I couldn't find a setting to let it lighten up all the time.
I went back to Virtuous Unity, 2.35. It seems like the same thing is happening. I don't know if it's just normal (and I never discovered it before) or is there a setting I have to change (because I can't find one)?
Someone who can help me?
Thanks!

I tried that, didn't work.
For you it is always lighten up, even if you are outsise/inside where it is really bright? When I go outside, full sun, those 4 touch inputs will stop shine. It seems there is something wrong with my DHD? Or Am I mistaken? Someone who can confirm it is always lighten up?

Oh, so it is just a normal feature of DHD? Weird that I just discovered that yesterday
rcmix 4.0 and roms that use rctweaks have settings for this. alternatively you can set it to your exact preference if you edit framework-res according to this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034743&highlight=systemui+apk
the link is manly aimed at tweaking your autobrightness, but it has info on butons too
Thank you. I only feared a problem, caused by changing ROM, as I never saw that before. I Thought those inputs were always lighten up, in every dark/bright situation.
depends on rom authors preference i suppose
if you are using sense 3.5 runnymede port, you can also flash tweaks as addon. some very nice features in there
Thank you all. I'm not great in flashing ROMs, certainly nog all those tweaks. I tried Virtuous Affinity and Blissdroid, but in both I heard a pop sound after playing music, sound, ringtone,... It seemed like I was not alone.
So I went back to Virtuous Unity 2.35, which doesn't give me any problem, except for a random bootloop from time to time (for example after playing Angry birds and once just after sending a message) what I can fix by replacing the battery. This happens 1 time in 3 months or so.
I just don't want to brick my phone, so I don't experiment much. Maybe one day, when I've got a new phone, I can use my DHD to experiment more.
Hi, this is hard to describe with out the sound file, but basically my phone when turning on plays a sound at random, it lasts for about 1sec and has 4 syllables if you get my meaning a bit like 1 ...2-3-4 or Do De-dah-Do (this isn't a silly post I promise XD)
At first I thought it was a few programs I installed, someone told me it could the the THD pinball game, un-installed that but it is still there.
Has anyone else encountered a "similar" issue? It interrupts some programs or games and is very annoying and its beinging to drive me insane; at one point I thought it was malware or a virus so I McAfee scanned it in case (maybe there are other better alts but please suggest).
Oh, I will also add when this happens when looking at desktop the top menu bar sometimes goes green.
Any ideas? Please save my sanity.
kind regards

Hello, don't know if it will help but green flashing bar looks like a phone call notification ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674783
I remembered to hear some strange sound and i recognized your Do De-dah-Do
but can't remember how i solved the problem ... or even if it solved itself ... sorry.
Instead of "random" you wanted to say "sporadic". Sound is still the same "tone" ?

Hi, yes I would probably say more sporadic than anything else and yes this sound is always the same, I never notice this in call though so I have no idea which app is trying to notify me; its notifying me to uninstall it when I find out what it is!

When I unlock the device, so its already on and then the sound at "some" point will start maybe 2-3 times then stop. Its so random I cant even pin point it. When in opera, desktop and other apps this sound will appear and cause mayhem.

After installing "addons detecto"r and "Air push detector" I still cant determine what this sound is.
Silly question... Do you have the Zelda Gate of Time Live Wallpaper installed?
I found that certain motions with my handset made the phone do the 'get item' jingle...

Yep, had a look, cant really see anything. The randomness is the problem here; hence why its hard to isolate it...

Yeah, it's strange. I know it'll take awhile but it might be a good idea to look at any/all recently installed Apps and look at their Permissions. See if any of them say anything about making alerts, then force close them if they do and see if the issue persists.

Does it by any chance happen when your phone is sitting over your wallet?
I was getting the same sound randomly and drove me nuts. Then realized that it's the NFC kicking in when the phone is near my "blink" chipped credit card.
i'm sure i read a post exactly like this and it turned out it was nfc, make sure it's turned off and see if it continues.
Nfc or perhaps the roaming sound is on?

Sorry for late reply and thank you so much for your input.
Yes people, it is the NFC! The phone resides in a wallet and my works id card on the other side. When I read the phone I fold the cover over and hence this sound. Do I feel stupid? Yes 100% I only hope that maybe some people can learn from my inherent stupidity and thus the madness that was slowly but surely setting in.
I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else. So sometimes I go to unlock and the screen doesn't let me do anything, it happens not just when unlocking but when I'm using the phone too, it's really annoying when I'm trying to text someone back or try to answer a call. It doesn't happen all the time so I could live with it....but I'm wondering if anyone has a fix or has the same problem.
Also I have my phone rooted and g3 tweaksbox, and I turned off the knock in code..I don't know if any of these have factors.

Is it lag? Does it only happen for a few seconds before it starts again?
It's not lag..I don't think unless it's a really long lag ?... I turn my screen on and off and it would still be frozen. Maybe after a few mins of turning the screen off and on again it will work...

Sounds faulty i think.I'd get the phone freezing for a few seconds before it responded, but that was lag.

i had this problem..it would lock up..freeze and i had to wait for a min or so to come back to life..a hard reset fixed it
Oh okay! That is good to know...I guess I'll be trying that soon
I have the same issue as well.
It's not that the screen "stopped" working. It works, except there's no update on the screen. As if the entire phone is frozen, but it's still giving me haptic feedbacks. Except, actions aren't being reflected on the UI; things like, tapping home navbar button, doesn't take me to the launcher, tapping up/back doesn't take me to the previous screen. I can lock/unlock the phone, but I'd return to the whatever page of the app that corresponds to the back/up command I previously made.
I think, the easiest way I can summarize this is that the OS stopped doing visual updates, while there's actually stuff going on despite that "stuck" screen.
Problem: Cannot turn on the screen by pressing the power button sometimes. The screen is black or very dim, I cannot tell. One can see nothing on the screen, and it doesn’t accept any touch input, either. The phone still rings if there’s an incoming call. If this happens, the following several presses (about 10 - 20) on the power button will probably lead to a reboot. The “screen auto-rotate” and the proximity sensor may fail after the reboot, but will recover after a manual reboot.
Frequency: Fewer with higher Rom version. About once per day for 4.3.
Other description:
The problem frequently happens when I just take the phone outside my house/office, and seldom happens when the phone just stays somewhere.
The problem seems to be irrelevant to the remaining battery capacity or the uptime, but it never happens when charging.
The problem seems to be irrelevant to the Apps installed.
The problem seldom happens in the first 3-4 days after flashing a Rom, but happens more and more frequently as time goes by. My guess is some cache is stuffed by some trash, which causes the problem. The phone may be fine as long as the trash can be cleaned up on a regular basis.
I manually reboot my phone at most every two days.
Solutions tried, but don’t work
Flashing official ROMs 4.0.4, 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.2.2 and 4.3 following the procedure “adb reboot bootloader; fastboot oem unlock; flash-all; fastboot oem lock”, without google wallet, not rooted.
Turning off the auto-brightness control, as suggested by some post on the Internet.
Does it look like it goes to standby normally or does the screen show gibberish and then turns off?

Thank you very much.
I think it's standing-by normally even through the screen is black (or very dim, I cannot tell), since it rings if there's an incoming call. I can see nothing from the screen, and I don't think the screen accepts any touch input, either.
Does this answer your question? Thank you.

Was just asking if you had gibberish yes or no. In that case i've got a different issue than you (Suspecting f*cked GPU).
Have you tried a different ROM/Kernel combination maybe it's related to that.

LagFix does NOT help in my case. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I've also had this blank screen with calls still ring issue for as long as I can remember, nearly 2.5 yrs.
I've always suspected it's my ROM and so I'd try out another ROM'S, BUT no other ROM works like how I'd like, so I always come back to my ROM.
It doesn't happen every single day, but it does happen very often.
I've tried using apps that auto reboot daily, but eventually this blank screen issue will return.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find any solution, so I just put up with it, it's like the 1 only flaw with my ROM.
&
Not to be at all rude, but I'm really glad op has had this issue from testing other versions of Android, cause then at least I know I don't need to give up my great tablet mode ROM.
LOL
I think I've finally found a work around for this screen of death.
Using Exposed, download/install this module/extension:
Disable Proximity
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mrchandler.disableprox
It does exactly what it's name is and ever since then I've not once had to remove my GN battery to work again because the screen went completely dead.
NVM
Screen still goes dead.
Anyone find an actual fix to this?
isajoo,
I had pretty much the same problems with my Galaxy Nexus running CyanogenMod 11 M12.
It got better by doing the following :
Blowing dry air in the earpiece… though the proximity sensor is clearly beside it. Can't do any harm though, I guess.
Settings/Applications/All/menu/Reset applications preferences (or whatever that's called in english) : that seemed to do a lot of good to my phone ! However, it's a very unsatisfactory answer on a technical point of view, as I still don't know WHAT was precisely needed. It's a "magic wand" solution for which I can't give an explanation.
Not specifically related, but greatly helped my phone in the responsiveness area : Trimmer (fstrim) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fifthelement.trimmer), an updated version of LagFix that you may already know
Hope that helped !
(I wanted to try http://www.androidlegend.com/how-to-perform-proximity-sensor-calibration-on-any-samsung-phone/ as well, but apparently, /sys/class/sensors/proximity_sensor/prox_cal does not exist on my phone…)

Hmm, I keep mine out of a case,.. Yeah I'm not sure what it is, it's a 50/50 between some say software and some say hardware. I would asume that software would of been fixed by now, either Samsung or 3rd party

So I found a solution for the issue in my case, it does seem to be software but it's really weird cause the issue continues in any firmware, it started when I was on 6.0.1 PI2, then I flashed Nougat and had the same problem (I hated it and battery drain was killing me) I went back to 6.0 and changed to the PK2 version and the issue continued, it was really weird cause it would cut out in audio messages, games but not music, I also tried every single suggestion on every forum and post I could find EXCEPT the Soundabout app, today I gave up, installed soundabout, selected media to speakers and bam, problem solved, I still need further testing, but it seems ok for now, keep in mind that I also have "prevent USB audio routing" on and "Easy Mute" off.
