[Q] Possible to rename desktop icons in Sense 4.0? - HTC One X

Previously used launchers but i quite like sense and like to stick with it for the time being but i can't figure out how to rename desktop shortcuts, I'm guessing it can't be done or I'm just missing it.
Anyone know if/how it can be done?
Thanks

Can't be done in Sense (would be a nice feature though)

Yes it would, mostly so people can't see i'm cheap as some of my icons have (free) written after them

[Theme] Cowboy Bebop (JFv1.5)

Confirmed working on 1.51 ADP as well (and most likely UK also, I imagine, since it also lacks the Cramfs lol, sounds like a disease).
JrBourque's blue VK was used for this theme.

Score! It looks nice, going to be testing it out Thanks man. You don't have a place to donate do you?

Ha ha. I haven't actually looked into that yet. I might. I enjoy making these things so much it's like... just building stuff I wanna see on my phone and sharing it w/ the community while I'm at it =)
I'm really haggard today for some strange reason. Jus veggin on the couch for a change. Ill prolly start workin on that Samurai Champloo theme here tomorrow night when I get back from work I imagine...
Oops... just realized I hadn't included a shot of the clock. Here it is.

I'm surprised you didn't put the watch from episode 10 (the one Alisa gives back to jet).

Oh yeah huh? That's a good idea =) unfortunitely my stinkin computer won't let me do screenshots from a DVD no matter what program I'm running it with =( which limits me to whatever I can find running image searches. I also wanted to incorporate as many characters/ships as I could into the clock, it being a centerpiece of sorts. Tried a few dif ideas and ended up liking that one the best. Kept it simple and clean. Everything else I tried got too muddy and didn't look sharp enough.
It requires you to redraw the image, but here it is.
Image is huge, just open the thumbnail =p

If you need more scans of it, let me know. Was going to use it in a winmo theme I was skinning =p
Actually, if you need any scans at all, let me know as I rip/convert all my dvds to AVI for easier storage (plus I use my xbox as a media center so that I can grab an episode/movie whenever from my home server)

Meh. Gave it my best whirl but it didn't end up lookin as sharp when all was said and done =( extremely hard to center (the wand graphics are independent from the clock graphic of course) and when I got it it just got way too messy. Was a great idea though =)

Yeah. Id definitely take pleasure in doing so if making it happen properly was within my means. My graphic art skills are intermediate at best. I definitely know my way around Gimp pretty well, but still lack some of the skills that others commonly put to good use when it comes to such matters

Same here. I know my way around PS and Gimp but I lack the background/education to go from the basics like cutting/cropping/applying filters to making crazy looking pictures/whatnot...

Not the US one (works fine w/ UK and ADP, I'm running ADP 1.51 myself)). Haven't tried it myself (so feel free to give it a shot and let me know) but from what I understand, if flashed w/ the US build of 1.51 you won't have the modified launcher (app drawer) elements of the theme due to an extra measure that JF took to compress the files within the Launcher archive... (that seems to be a headache to edit so I haven't bothered messin w/ the US build at all).

It's because of those cram things that you have to go around and stuff, but it does work on ADP 1.51.
Hey was going to tell you something, or a little suggestion, but after seeing some other themes, I was wondering that instead of posting full pictures for icons, is there anyway that you can post figures. If you look at Nightmare before Christmas one I'm sure you would understand what i mean. That's an idea of course, still like your work so don't get me wrong *shakes fist incase*

Yeah it's possible. It's all variable on the source that i get my hands on. I'm not sure if KilaTattz actually created those icons (drawing them from scratch) or if he found them somewhere/created them by editing a source... but I imagine a lot of times you see icons like that, they're even drawn from scratch or taken from a windows desktop theme of somekind.
I usually create my icons from pictures cuz there's a lot more to work with. In some cases they're almost figurine-like (see the swordfish Browser icon, Dialer icon, Calculator icon, and youtube icon from the bebop them if youre running it, or even better, most of the icons i did in my megaman theme - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=515742 ).
But I'm guessing he's got legit enough graphic design skills that he drew them himself or he found a killer desktop theme that he pulled the icons from.
when working w/ Bebop and Champloo, Robotech and Spider-man... desktop themes are/were either non existant or completely outdated. There are some icons I used from a windows desktop theme that looks straight outta the 90s on my spider-man theme lol. They looked aight though. If you have Openhome you should scope it out. They jus threw it up on the Market via an Openhome skin the other day.

Hi,
I have a HTC Hero, and I whould like 5 desktops, not 7. Is there a tip ?
Thx.
Not got time to give a full answer, but it would help if we knew the position of your phone?
I.e. Are you rooted?
and if so what custom rom are you running?
Thanks
When you answer these someone else will be able to give you a full answer

Sorry
I have a rooted Modaco Custom Rom 3.1
Strange request! It does beg the question as to why you would want to "restrict" the number of screens as opposed to simply not using the if you don't want them?

You need a custom launcher.apk I believe.
Don't know if anyone has created a 3/5 screen Rosie launcher, I guess because there are so many fullscreen widgets.

Yea, it's true there are a lot of full screen widgets... but to be honest, I don't use any widgets except for the htc settings widgets for wifi, bluetooth etc.

If your on a 2.1 rom you can always use espresso rosie that has 5 screens by default.
Default android has 3 so you can just turn sense off on your hero (or install a rom with it removed altogether to get just 3 screens

[Q] HTC SENSE CLOCK WITH FLIPPING NUMBERS.. ripped

hi guyz .. i just saw this post today surfacing on the top of our forum...here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785645
since the clock is ripped is it possible for this sense flipping clock to be ported to our samsung galaxy s????
Omg pleeeeeeeeeeeaseeeeeee
I doubt it...... you need sense and it's a little limited and convoluted.
Why not just install something like Fancy Widget or Weather Widget?

i have been using fancy widget for a long while now.. i agree there is not much difference ..... but we are here to get the best and the most for our devices... if we start being satisfied in everything then this world would come to an end ..

i can agree to that expect the last part
it's actually quite comfortable pace and quiet, until some one stirs up the water again.
specially all those false alarms at bugs and problems some make it out to be a big deal when it's just a tiny issue.
Now back on topic, I do like Fancy Widget better, is nicer cooler, softer, and those touch spots are configurable as a soft menu to launch apps, which is perfect !
You need the htc framework to support their widgets.
Alternative ?
- Well considering the "scrolling/animated widget" is open source (by koxx if i recall), someone with experience in java/time on their hands could come up with such a widget.

Agreed on the framework, that's why I mentioned Sense being needed.
As to someone else creating a widget, whatever they create they would have to be very careful as other widget developers have had to either terminate their widget or alter so as not to infringe HTC's patent.
in order to install this last version of Htc Clock (from sense 1.6 of desire hd) you need to flash the up.zip on a SENSE rom, if u read the entire post he explains how... bye

using custom icons?

Just trying to figure out how to use custom icon packs? and where to get them?
Ive never really done much in the way of customising my phone, and just installed Go launcher EX..
Managed to get a nice black and white thing going but obviously all the icons are the standard sgs2 ones. so what would be the easiest way to replace them?
Thanks for any help
Still learning myself, but check this thread in the Android Themes forum (not specific to the SGS2)
Hope that's what you're wanting...
thanks for that..
Didnt realize you had to alter each icon 1 at a time linking each 1 to the one you want it to replace though... was kinda hoping just to download a pack,, install it and it would auto replace all the relevant icons., heh

[REQ] Star trek theme...

Wondering if anyone has any info. I'm looking for a star trek look/feel but more like the actual interface they use on the show. Not just a wallpaper and some colors...
More like a launcher.
But here's what I've found so far. A good font goes a long way.
I was using fluxed/adw theme, adw ex with a bunch of setting tweaks and metamorphed theme, then blew it up with a kernal flash, bad nandroid.
But alas with a dead pc and nothing but a netbook not much I can modify other than what already exists.
See pics for inspiring...
Any ideas? Not looking for free labor, just ideas... ie: star trek font prolly not practical...

Funny story, I was actually thinking about doing something like this yesterday. But I realized its way over my head. Too many xml edits

I'll upload the final frontier font I use later today

Hmmm...I'd be interested in something like that too. Have you tried requesting this in the Themes sub-forum? A lot of themers spend all their time there instead of in Q&A.

Someone requested it a couple weeks ago, and DreamsForgotten and Shane talked about it and said it would be extremely difficult to attempt.
If anyone were to attempt it, it would have to be very small steps to start with. Maybe the Starfleet logo for the vertical unlock icon, and the Enterprise for horizontal. A themed Swype would be doable. And maybe the little spinning hub things on the engines as loading icons. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

Yes, extremely difficult. Why we say that is because you will have to create lots of images out side of just editing the images in the apk (I would think this would be better done as a launcher than a framework theme), then layering the buttons, text, and other images within the xml, as well as repositioning all of it. The last issue is the 4x4 grid that the phone uses. Those I don't see that as a deal breaker, it is another obstacle.

That's kinda what I thought... launcher rather than framework hack. Perhaps butchering adw or something.
The pulldown animations really have potential too... something simple like glowing conduits that are very opaque and dark...
And it might not be so difficult to rob some architecture from a winblows theme as the huge icon widgets would make a better base. Widgets may be a direction to take. I have a copy of creative suite 2 on my mac but the hdd is soooo slow I hate using it. I could do some graphic work. Anyone got any links of a video showing the computer in action on a screen that would be a cool port? I've googled youtube to little avail...
