[Q] Typing in text boxes, entered text doubles? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

This happens all the time, and it makes me just exit out because it takes forever to type on this dang phone due to stupid "features" it forces.
I am typing, and as I'm typing the phone gives me a little vibration and boop, wherever I was typing it pastes a copy of the entire contents of the text window. Has happened on 2 of these phones (my first one died while not in use and wasn't rooted or modded ever). This is very annoying and I'm wondering if it is a known issue, or a feature of some sort that I'm fat fingering without realizing it.
I just give up whatever I was doing and close the window. Going back in a text is ridiculously annoying with this thing so I don't even bother if it doesn't work immediately. It gets in a mood and I can click on a word in a paragraph 20 times and it will never go to that spot, the cursor will just pop to wherever it feels like and the text window zooms out for no reason at the same time. For example, imagine I zoom as far as possible on the first few words of this sentence and click between the "i" and "v" in the word "give" in the first sentence of this paragraph. The cursor pops over to the last word on the last line of the entire paragraph AND zooms out. But I assume that's some sort of "feature", like how automatic transmissions accelerate your car to 10mph for no reason and scares the crap out of anybody that never uses them.
I disabled autocorrect because of the "randomly going somewhere else" cursor that will just keep selecting the same word that is nowhere near where I'm clicking. No phone, I left out a space. I don't want to correct the word "pwn". NO I DON'T WANT TO CORRECT PWN! AGHHH I DON'T WANT TO CORRECT IT! *back button*

*puts phone down and walks away*

is this normal or is there something wrong with my phone :(

Can someone tell me if this is normal please?
I can't highlight text to cut, copy or delete like I used to be able to on my kaiser
For example, if I go to google and search "one two three", am I supposed to be able to tap at the end of a previous word (one or two) and be able to drag the stylus to highlight it to delete, cut or whatever?
I can't do this is my txt msgs either. If I want to delete a word or part of a sentence, I have to tap behind the last letter and press delete on the onscreen or physical keyboard. A bit annoying because it deletes letter by letter
I can however highlight text to delete, cut or copy in contacts, the url bar, my calendar (only in appointments, not in notes), word.
I can't highlight text to delete, copy, or cut in tasks, internet explorer, messaging, msn.
is this normal or is just my phone? I just got it on thursday so if this isn't supposed to happen then I will take it back to the store.
Please help!
On any screen, press down on the screen and hold until the menu pops up, and there's an option to turn on text selection. Since the OS now scrolls with finger flicks, copying text is hard to distinguish from scrolling so this is why it works this way now.

How to prevent accidental dialing?

Dear all,
Is there any way to add a confirmation dialog for the number I am dialing from my Touch Pro2? I have accidentally dialed a few calls when I touch the contact quick links on my home page, and when I scroll through the call history or my contact list. I notice that this is a common problem for quite a few people but I have not been able to find a solution. Note that I am NOT asking for screening locking.
Thank you very much.
Welcome to forums
I have never made an accidental call...
You can always block your device
This is not about blocking. I have S2U2 installed and there is no pocket dialing or anything like that. What I am talking about is that when I look through my call history, scroll through my contact list or quick contact links, my finger action may not be a perfect scroll action to the phone so it start dialing right away.
I am new to the forum and can not post links here but if you google "touch pro2 dial confirmation", or "touch pro2 accidental dialing", this is a common problem, at least to new touchphone users.
I'm not a new touchphone user, and I completely know/agree with what you are talking about.
thank god. I thought it was me. For the first two weeks of owning this phone I actually would tell people who called me or that I called "I just bought a brand new phone so if you get a phone call from me and I do not leave a voice mail, it it because I dailed you by accident, sorry". Pretty embarressing especially for a business phone.
It is my first touch phone, but still .....
When you are on phone, do not try to scroll through recent call, especially with the keyboard up. And do not try to do it one handed, where you use your thumb to scroll. It doesn't work for me. My thumb is terrible at scrolling.
I then I don't realize that I am already on the phone screen and press the phone button.
Really cannot figure out all the ways I accidentally call someone. And it has mostly stopped. But still ....
I can usually press "End Call" before it starts ringing on the other end. But I agree that since the scroll gesture, and pressing to select/call are almost the same gesture, there should be a confirmation screen. Or they should make a scroll bar on the side (but that might clutter things up).
I have the same problem, and the end call button is to slow to stop the call. Calling happens so fast that even if I press the end call button immediately it rings at least once.
I've had touch phones for years.... This is just something you get used to. It will happen regardless of whether you are using an Iphone, Windows Phone etc etc.
You just have to be carefull I suppose, no other way around it. You would get very tired of having to confirm EVERY call you make I would think. I dont get any "accidental" calls any more. I havnt for years actually. It's just a matter of training your gestures I would think. When scrolling dont push your finger on a contact and hold it there but start at the bottom or top of the screen and start swiping your finger down (or up) before your finger touches the screen. The only time you get a "accidental" press would be if you start by pressing your finger down and leaving it there a second or ending with your finger on a contact for a second or so.
I'm somehow able to leave my finger on a contact and swipe up or down and it doesnt select the contact untill I actually hold my finger there so. It must just be a way you guys are doing whatever it is you are doing.
That's my two cents though!
I guess people get over this problem sooner or later so xda-developers, who are certainly experienced users of touch phones, do not feel a need to add such a confirmation box.
Anyway, confirmation box is not the only way to prevent accidental dialing. For example, if pressing end-call in 2 seconds actually stops dialing, I do not mind waiting 2 extra seconds for each call. Right now, even immediate end-call cannot stop a call.

I just noticed something, in Advanced Config, under "Phone", there is an item "End Call Delay". Its set to 3 seconds by default, which seems like a long time to delay ending the call. I've just changed it to 1 second, and going to see how that works out.
Advanced Config is here, if you don't already have it:

I must have had at least 50 accidental calls in the last month. Everytime I scroll through my recent history it somehow takes it like I clicked on a number to call...
can somebody please make a fix where I can click YES OR NO right before I make a call.. or maybe a 5 second timer with a cancel button before a call..
thanks a lot!!
btw.
i had an android and i used to use google voice so it would prevent accidently calling someone
google voice app for android has a message that pops up when you make a call that asks which number to use for the call (google voice, or phone)
something like that would work nice
Another thing that might be worth considering is tweaking the amount of pressure required with a touch to simulate a click. If you can find a sweet spot where you're able to select an item when you need to, and scrolling is still possible, could be worth a look. I think I've seen reg entries or tweaking programs that cover this, though it is possible they were for different HTC models, and perhaps ours doesn't register varying amounts of pressure? In which case, is it possible to alter how long you need to press on an item before a click is registered?
Not an answer re. wanting call confirmation, I realise, but something to consider, possibly.
I have the same issue with accidentally dialing numbers. Android has an app, think it's called "Confirm Call". A similar Windows Mobile app would be appreciated and used by many.
The trick is, to apply even pressure to the screen when scrolling up or down. Try not to let your finger press and release to quickly.

Infuriating SMS bug.

My Tilt 2 and my girlfriend's Tilt 2 suffer from the same issue. About 25% of the time when we open a text message, our phones do not scroll down to the most recent message nor give us a cursor so we can start typing a reply.
You have to manually scroll down to the typing area and manually click in the blank space, and even then, when you start typing and get to the end of a line, instead of automatically dropping down to the next line, the phone inexplicably scrolls back up to an older message. You then have to scroll back down and click in the typing area where your message was cut off to resume typing, but each time you get to the end of a line, it scrolls back up again. Using the task manager to close the sms application fixes the problem, but it reoccurs about one out of every four text messages we receive. I have applied both of the hotfixes, the sms patch and the caller id patch.
It's so much of an annoyance, she, being a bigger texter than I, hates the phone. If anyone else has had this issue, do any of the extant cooked roms fix the issue? We are both using the stock At&T Rom minus the crud.
sounds like it could be a case of the different programs interfering with each other. install one by one and see if that makes a difference, you might come to realize something. If you want to just uninstall those programs you should use an advanced uninstaller like TMS or SK Tools to make sure you change the registry settings.
I'd really suggest grabbing a visual kitchen and making your own custom ROM. It is really simple and in my case has been the most stable and quickest ROM i've used to date.
thats just the Windows Mobile messaging... its horrible, they should make a new one lol, Like Handcent SMS for android, that is like THE best texting app. but about the issue, it sounds like you just need to purge your SMS, I do it once a week, but I also do a PIM backup before so, just incase
I do.
I purge it every day. I delete everything, and then I empty out the deleted messages if that's what you mean. It pisses me off. Her phone has virtually nothing on it. It's completely stock. I know there isn't anything interfering with it.
same problem here.
No solution here, but I can more further identify the problem....
Does this seem accurate?
When I select a text message from the message inbox, it displays the message just like a normal reply window with the keyboard at the bottom, but then takes a second or so and then the keyboard hides and the message is displayed full screen and the reply area with the cursor loses focus. Then I have to click in the reply box at the bottom at which point the keyboard has to pop up again and resize the message. The action is as if I have touched the message itself which would of course expand the message and minimize the keyboard.
I was originally thinking it is a left-over phantom touch from the previous screen but that has been ruled out. Maybe this is a timing issue in the registry? It doesn't seem like it. It happens with every new message that you want to reply to. I'm at a total loss, but very annoyed by this. The email section works fine. I see a list of messages, I select one, if I choose to reply, the message pops up and the cursor appears inline right where I should type and the keyboard pops up at the same time. Once I have replied to a message, even if I reboot the phone, if I go back to a message I have replied to the keyboard is already up with the cursor focused in the reply box. I don't know why it doesn't do this when a new message comes in. Maybe it thinks you need more space to read the message, but this is silly considering text messages are usually very short….ie Short Messaging Service…
I saw someone else post that this is just sucky windows messaging. Well, it didn't do this on my Treo 750 with WM6.1. But there I had a regular keyboard, not a software keyboard on a touch screen.
So my guess is that something in the messaging system may be looking for the hardware keyboard and assuming we have it open and displaying the messages full screen.
So what I think we really need to ask is if there is a way to force the keyboard to just be open and put the cursor focus in the reply box when I open a new text message by default?
Alternatively, is there a messaging replacement that eliminates this problem?

Problem when texting (jumps to top of conversation time after time)

Hello people,
I have a problem when texting with my desire and it's this annoying i think of selling it if no-one has a solution for this.
The problem is when typing a textmessage to someone. When i have like a bigger conversation (in the way that you have to scroll up to see the first textmessage of the conversation) and i'm busy typing the message, the phone would suddenly jump up to the very top of the conversation. The keyboard dissappears and i have to manually scroll down the whole conversation again to be back at the screen where i was writing the message in to continue typing.
It's very annoying and sometime's it happens like 3 times typing one textmessage.
If the conversation is rather big (take 200 textmessages) i'm more busy scrolling than typing. Quite silly for a highend phone.
I flashed, flashed, flashed, full wiped everything over again and the problem just doesn't disappear.
Someone noticed this too?
I also suffer from this annoying issue from time to time. It would be great if somebody could help us!

Since Froyo/Android 2.2;
Sometimes when writing SMS, the typing window can disappear and the display zooms all the way up to the very first message to that contact.
You could scroll back down endlessly of course, but instead just turn the phone to change the screen orientation and you'll get straight back to the text entry window.
SOMEtimes even that doesn't work, in which case menu/add subject. That'll get you back to the text entry window for sure. (Obviously don't actually enter a subject or it'll change the message to an MMS)

[Q] S-Note handwriting recognition text-box size/wrapping

Hi folks,
So, when using S-Note on the Note 8, there is the option to enter handwriting, which is then recognized, and turned into typed text. What I notice, is that the typed text is wrapped (next line) according to the way you enter the text lines below each other with your handwriting. Thus, if you write four words in a line, and then continue writing in the next line, the recognized text will also only have the four words in its first line, with the rest in the next line.
Since handwriting is, as a rule, much larger than the typed, recognized text, the recognized text always only fills about the left third of the page. This is obviously wasting a lot of screen space.
I would like to see a way to either drag-extend the text-box after recognition, and see the words wrap at the edge of the text-box, rather than according to my initial handwriting, OR, I'd like to see the software auto-wrap the text itself, making the text-box larger, to the full width of the page, thus allowing me to write much more on a page than only one third on the left side.
Anyone have any ideas about this?
