My computer does not recognize Evo?

This must be asked a billion times a day, but I can't find an answer. Is there something simple I'm missing? I hope?
My computer's Device Manager in windows shows "My HTC" as a device. The drivers are there. It shows "USB Debugging" on the phone. But when I click on the drive letter for the phone, it says, "please insert a disk." I have the default set up to mount as a disc drive on the phone. But I no longer get prompted.
wtf?
Appreciate advice. TIA.
im in the same boat u are, cant really seem to get any help on it either.

Shouldn't be required, but install HTC Sync and restart.
Having the same problem. Reinstalled HTC Sync, restarted phone, even tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243 that stuff, but to no avail..
The phone still charges and windows shows the drive, but it is greyed out.
Few suggestions.
1. Click menu button on your phone and select the connect to pc option. Make sure the Ask Me checkbox is checked. Check your default type as well to see if it is set to disk drive, charge only or some other option.
2. Make sure that PC synchronization app is not disabled by any task killer apps. This app is needed to allow the phone to mount as a disk drive.
3. The Windows drive letter assigned to your phone may be conflicting with some other drive mapping. To fix it, right click my computer icon on your desktop and click manage link. In the computer management screen, go to the disk management icon. You should see your phone represented as a hard drive. If not, your pc is not recognizing your phone for whatever reason. If it is shown, right click it and reassign it to a different drive letter.
Good luck.
So my computer does not recognize my Evo and my Evo doesn't display a notification corresponding to the choices of the USB capabilities. However, this is a fairly new and I am not sure if it is the rom I was using, the fact that I connect to computer that does not allow drive access for unauthorized devices, I deleted a crucial file (pc sync) or there is an issue with the phones port. I have tried everything from using other computers to cables to simply buying a card reader with a usb port and pushing a new rom onto so I can flash it to my phone. Now I'm running the new Team Nocturnal RS 4, props guys. I still am unable to work out my usb issue. So I think I might have to unroot and exchange the phone through sprint or live on a card reader (which means no late night coding for me ). Anyway, I know this question is asked a lot, but could someone direct me to the newest stock RUU, please. Also I would like to re-apply pc sync on my phone if that is the root of the issue. Can I have ideas on how to complete this?
Also, I heard sprint is not carrying the classic Evo 4g, is this true? If so what a rip...
Thanks in advance, you guys are awesome to deal with us novice all day.
Ok guys, geez, right click the drive and select fix partiton issues, thats what i had to do,Sometimes windows(the worst os yet)decides to be a ***** and not recognize the drive.

S-OFF with USB

Hello again.
I am trying to do the S-Off Precedure With Alpharev, using the noob proof guide and i am stuck. I have downloaded the Alpharev software and on the guide it says you can either put it on USB or burn it to CD... As i have no blank Cd's I have put it onto a USB, but it doesn't seem to be working??
Can someone please help??
no need to waste a CD or USB stick space, try to use a virtual machine instead, much more easy to use
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It depends on whether your computer is able to flash from a USB drive. I also had some issues with it. I eventually just burnt it onto a CD.
i burnt it on CD as well
make sure your PC BOOT SEQUENCE is setup to boot from CD driver first not HDD
my main pc was setup to boot first from CD driver. so i had no issues or setting up to do.

I was trying to boot my laptop from USB, for a different reason, and eventually found the option under HDD as an option, rather than a stand alone option.

Hi,
Did you make it a bootable USB stick ? Try with this: http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/. "burn" the image don't just copy it.
Also be careful with your USB device size. I've tried making a 16 Gb stick bootable and it didn't boot. It worked perfectly with a 2 Gb USB stick.
When you computer boots press F2 or F10 (whichever is your boot sequence selector) and select boot from USB.
Good luck !

[Q] How do I mount internal storage from recovery mode?

I have a problem. I have been passed a HTC Wildfire that has a big chunk missing, namely the touchy part of the screen On this phone is, apparently a photograph that I need to rescue or the world is going to end. The phone is configured to charge only when connected to a computer so I need to access the internal storage, whilst in recovery/fastboot and save the photo.
I have HTC Sync installed, the SDK too, but when I use ADB to list devices I see nothing.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

How did you save a photo on the internal storage?
More on topic:
If you know where it is you can use adb to pull it out.
Command to do this is:
"adb pull [location of file here]"
If you don't and you know the name, you can use the shell to "search for it"
command:
adb shell
now that your in the shell, use ls to list what's in the folder and cd [folder] to change the directory.
Thanks for your speedy reply!
It's not my phone, so I have no clue how a photo got on to the internal storage. Your response was very helpful, but at the moment I cannot get the device to list in "adb devices". Can you shed any light on that?
Try to turn it on and see if the trackball still works.
If it does, navigate to settings->applications->debugging and turn on USB debugging.
My apologies, I have just noticed I have posted this in the wrong forum. It is a Wildfire S not a Wildfire (no trackball). I will repost in the correct forum.
I did find another way...
but it requires you to install Ubuntu.

hox showing as cd drive?

i plugged the phone into pc while it was off and it installed drivers for a cd drive and it shows up in device manager even tho phone is off and ideas as to why? also if i hold both vol buttons while its off and connected it vibrates and after a min or two if vibes again on its own. any info on this would be great as I'm really curious and Google cant help lol
I think it shows as a cd drive when you have just selected to charge only. If you drag down the notification bar and select USB mount (or whatever it is) it should then mount as a drive.

Win7 64bit pc does not Recognize A100 tab

I have previously have installed drivers for 3 android devices and never had a problem except now. Neither my pc or my laptop (both win7 64bit) can recognize it. I've tried changing ports (could not change cables because I do not have an extra micro usb cable), I have installed and uninstalled several times on both computers. I've even tried to see if it ewas a compatibility issue with the 64 bit sytem but when I went into setup.exe properties there was not a compatibility tab. I bought this refurbished from Walmart so Acer no longer covers it under warranty. I did buy a 2 year extended warranty that I can use as a last resort.
Is the micro usb cable suppose to seat flat against the body of the Acer a100 or can you see a portion of the metal part of the plug? Also, should I be able to wiggle the usb plug back and forth. Any assistance with this would certainly make my day. I have been working with this for 2 days now.
I'm assuming you installed the driver downloaded from Acer? My laptop is also 64-bit and it recognizes just fine after installing the driver. Yes, you can still see some metal part of the usb plug and it does wiggle, at least it does on mine.

Yes, I did download from Acer. I finally went back and reviewed the paper work that came with Tab and found that the company that refurbished for Walmart has a 90 day warranty. I have emailed there warranty support service, hopefully I will hear something from them tomorrow. The only thing I have not tried is a different usb cable which I will pick up tomorrow at good old Radio Shack. If that does not fix the problem then the problem must be in the Tab. I have installed drivers for 3 other android device on the same pc's and never had a problem. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day for me. Dealing with this issue, going to the dentist and I am suppose to get the new Vizio Co-Star so I will be setting that up and then learning how to operate it and seeing what its potential is.

Only if you have adb over network, which stock doesn't have, so no you can't do that, has to be USB.

I also have this problem with two Computers,Windows 7 64 Bit and Windows 8 Consumers Preview 64 Bit. Many Hours Lost trying but still unable to find a fix. It has to be a Security Issue possibly with an Exploit in the USB Driver Software. My Resolution was to Break Out the Old Trusty Dell XP Laptop. Copy and Pasted the Same Downloaded Files to a USB Drive and used them on the XP Laptop and in Less then 5 Minutes Successful Root !

I was at Radio Shack and bought a cable for $20.00, what a rip-off I could have gotten the same cable for $4.95 from Monoprice. Anyways that was the problem and now the pc sees the device.
You can download an Ubuntu Live CD for free, and boot from it without needing to reformat / repartition your hard disk. In other words you don't need to install it, just reboot run the commands you need, take the disc out, boot back to windows and done.
I put together this package that simply includes adb and fastboot, it will install them automatically and allow you to run them with ease.
Download here:
android-cmdline-tools.zip
Instructions:
Boot into your Live Ubuntu CD (or other distro)
Download the above package
Open your terminal emulator (i.e. Gnome Terminal, Konsole, Terminator, etc) do the following:
Code:
cd /tmp && unzip ~/Downloads/android_cmdline_tools.zip
*If you downloaded to a different location you need to correct the path, I used ~/Downloads as it is the typical download location on linux for Chrome and Firefox.
After the file is unzipped you should have the android-cmdline-tools directory in /tmp/android-cmdline-tools
Now lets install adb and fastboot:
Code:
cd android-cmdline-tools && sudo bash ./install-linux.sh
(may request your password if you are on a live cd then it shouldn't, however if it does leave it blank, otherwise you should type your users password)
This will prompt you to make sure you wish to install. Enter Y to install, any other key to abort
If this succeeds, you will now have adb and fastboot ready to run on your device
On linux you shouldn't need any special drivers for these tools to work with the A100 so this package is a small convenient download that is quick to install and use the tools, and should come in handy for usage via Live CD/DVD to access your A100 or most other android devices through adb/fastboot
Good luck and hope this helps!

One quick solution would be to grab an Ubuntu Live CD download and reboot your computer into the Live installation, download the adb and fastboot files for linux. You usually can get them in packages aimed at flashing recovery so you don't have to download the entire Android SDK. Ubuntu shouldn't have a problem seeing your A100 without the need for any drivers or modifying any .ini files. This is an alternative, so that you don't have to wipe your Win7 install. just keep a Live CD for linux laying around, they usually come in handy!!
Actually now that I am thinking of it I'll just make a package named A100-cmdline-tools.zip that contains both adb and fastboot for both windows and linux. Maybe it will come in handy for some of you guys

edited that post, made a Linux android-cmdline-tools.zip package that includes both adb and fastboot and will install them for you. May be a handy .zip file to keep laying around for your PC, small size and easy for a quick download too if your on Live CD. I also have the Windows adb.exe and fastboot.exe files as well as the required .dll's in the zip, I just haven't made an installer for windows (yet - will be install-windows.sh) .
