WOOHOO !
Now I just have to walk down at my local bank where I have an account and ask them for instructions on how to make my card PayPal-enabled (it is possible, I heard).
If not, I'm so gonna stick my nails in my throat. -- not sure how well that goes translated in English, but it sounds hilarious in Romanian.
Alright devs, you can have the topic back now, lol

I lost my charger. Do you know what charder are compatibles? Thanks. I looked on ebay and amazon

DO NOT do this. There is way more to power supply compatibility than the connector. This is quite frankly stupid and irresponsible advice. You must ensure that voltages, etc., are the same or you risk not only damaging the device, but also fire.
If proper compatibility was meant to be implied by that post, i.e. voltage, it should have been explicitly stated, and not just commented about the port.

$73 on Amazon
I still need one of these. Is the tethering plan really still required? Even with a custom ROM?

Use WiFi. You don't need a tether plan from your provider. You can tether if you want without a plan. I just use my lapdock when on WiFi, but I could use WiFi Tether if I wanted when there is no WiFi available.

I know when the Atrix first came out, AT&T required the purchase of a tethering plan with the lapdock. This is probably why the lapdocks didn't sell that well (that and the $300 price tag).
Maybe this is just a throwback description, but the product information on Amazon still states that a tethering plan is required, which is why I asked.
(Note: The Motorola Lapdock requires the separately available Motorola ATRIX 4G, and an AT&T 4 GB DataPro with Tethering plan is required to use the Lapdock with your ATRIX 4G.)
Maybe they meant when using cellular data.
Either way, thanks. Time to make a purchase.....

The only time ATT required a tethering plan with the lapdock was for the $100 rebate that they did for a while. Granted, without it the lapdock is neutered (unless you're on wifi), but it's never been required.

I know, but I went with the assumption that any human who had the brains to choose the ATRIX instead of other overly-advertised phones would have the brains to also check the voltage and amperage. In any case, they (U and I) should be about the same. I mean every device has a failsafe that doesn't accept current that doesn't fall within the range of X +/- 5V and 1A or so (where X is the original charger's specs).

Not true. I bought my Atrix the first day it was available for sale in stores. I was so turned off by the thought of purchasing an additional data plan (tethering) that I never gave it a second thought until recently.

Xoom car charger 50% off at Verizon (ended; 3/24)

For all who are interested in getting a car charger for the Xoom, now might be the time. Verizon Wireless has a sale with 50% off. No idea when this will expire or if it's available in all areas. Follow me.
EDIT: It actually includes free shipping as well!
I see the standard dock is on sale as well -9.00 off
Thank You!!!
I just ordered mine. This was a necessity for me as I know my wife will be on my Xoom (Angry Birds, no doubt) during our long trips down the coast to see family.
$15 is a great deal.
Can't seem to be able to buy it from the Xoom, though. Only option is "Wish List".
Make sure you use the compatibility check and Put in the xoom. Then it will let you add to cart. Thanks to the OP! Ordered mine earlier today after reading this. Great deal!
Just ordered mine with free overnight shipping. Can't beat that

It gets worse- they charged me $14.95, exactly, just as it was listed on my pickup order- not even the 8.75% CA sales tax! Ah well, perhaps I can save someone else some time with this info ....
Thank you.
I have to be honest here though this is really the way to go:

These inverters are ok however, the 12v car type charging cords are less wear and tear on you autos elect. system. I drive a semi and our company had increaced service costs because of drivers useing these inverters in the trucks. I am not saying dont buy one I was just giveing out some info. to think about before buying a inverter.
I bet one of the reasons they sell this cord so cheep is that they wanted to know who has a 3G/4G xoom that has not signed up for a data plan. I bet they will use this info. to try and sell you a plan. Who knows they may even have specials that will come up with less of a cost for their data plan. But I know they will at least use your shipping adress to send you offers. Over night shipping is expencive! between $11.00-$13.00! (they have to be loosing money on this cord + shipping) I myself dont care if they send me junk mail as long as I get this cord OVERNIGHT shipped to me for this price!. Its a good idea for the company to do it this way.

I am not sure I understand this reasoning. When I bought mine from Costco, they took my info and recorded the serial of the Xoom. I did not get the data plan. So they have my info already and can easily see that I am not using their data plan. Why would they need to sell an accessory to determine this?

Its a cheap way for a company to get a mailing list for selling stuff!. Its not a bad idea in fact, its a good idea!. Remember other cell companies are going to be adding the xoom to their service plans soon (Sprint to name one) compitition is a good thing for the customer!. Also, just think about it for a second.... This also provides Sprint a advance way to check your credit as you use your card when buying the cord, and there by filter out customers with sub standard credit for their services. Then when they offer you a "special plan" they will know they can aprove you when you sign up. Makes sense now?

Of course, that is the same with all companies. But to say they are selling these to find out who is using their data plan or not does not make sense. If my grandma ordered the cable for me and does not even have a Xoom, how would that help them determine whether or not someone is using data? You don't need to enter any information about your Xoom to order it. Does not make sense. I am sure Verizon already has the serial # of every Xoom sold and can easily see which ones have data plans and which ones do not.

Ok tell me why they would pay $11.00-$14.00 for over night shipping and charge you only $14.99 for a cord with free over night shipping? (the kindness of their heart? I am not sure what you don't understand about they already have your information when you purchased the Xoom. They already know whether or not you have data plan with them. What difference does it make whether you buy an accessory from them or not? They already have your info! And what does a car charger have to do with finding out if you have a data plan? Nothing. It is for charging your device not accessing data. You are not making any sense.

at&t and VZW are block tethering apps from android market... Will Sprint Also?

http://tech-buzz.net/2011/05/01/att-and-verizon-blocking-tethering-apps-from-the-android-market/
BIG RED (Verizon) and BIG BLUE (ATT) are now banning tethering apps from the android market. Will they also ban it from the amazon market also? And will Sprint follow the leader?
Doesn't really matter if they do or not. Just download the .apk and install it if you want it.
I knew it was a matter of time and of course, Sprint has already been discussing the issue. The part I don't like, is about the cell provider auto adding the plan to your monthly bill when they catch you tethering, which I don't see how they can do if CarrierIQ is removed. Unless they drive around neighborhoods in a van, connecting tether frequencies to your address. Lol

yeah i am currently using stock. I was using midnight but he stopped development so i went to stock for a little bit. I think that we should be able to use our data in anyway we want to. But the carriers see tethering as a gold mine. I say as a compromise how about this data plans....
plan 1: tethering allowed but speed capped at 1megabit...
plan 2: unlimited Thehering Allowed and unlimited data and only $15 more per month speed capped at 3megabit
plan 3: super data plan same as plan 2 but has full wimax speeds and is free if you get the $99 unlimited everything plan.

How about unlimited data plan still means unlimited data? I am already paying an extra $10 a month for.....? I wasn't paying that with the Palm Pre or Instinct. All could get on the web. The only reason I tether is to see the damn websites and use a grown up keyboard. Should not have to pay another $30 a month for that.

The extra $10 is not because of the data at all. The charge is because you have a "smart phone". This would be like when you purchase a car and the state says you have to pay a gas guzzler tax because your car only get 25mpg and not 35mpg. What sprint should do is whay verizon is doing with the $50 prepaid unlimited plan for features phone. Sprint says feature phones prices per month is this and for smart phones they are this....
on the plus side id you are a sprint shareholder then this may help the bottom line by finding ways to charge more for the same services. I think next sprint will increase the fee for tables to $20 as it is an uber device with a screen larger then 4". They can also charge $15 for any smart phone with a 4" or larger screen. And if you phone has a battery that is not environmentally recycled then sprint can also charge you $10 per month for that...

HaHa! Yes if you have a larger screen you must be using larger data. Their first explanation for the $10 was the higher data use with this super phone. Now they just stumble when you call them on that and say it is for having a premium phone....I paid that cost when I bought the phone. It is more like buying a sports car outright and still having to pay the dealer a monthly fee for it being a sports car.
Do you BONSAI?

Wifi works great with it. Atrix does wifi speeds pretty well too. The best ive come across at least. There is a hack but i only recommend it for emergencies or those just in case moments to get it set up beforehand. You can burn through your data plan quick just browsing the web.

been a while since i've flashed and played with my phone (3 months). I still am using gladiatrix (is that project completely gone?) and it did come with the hdmi hack and it blocks the tethering so I can use wifi. If i stick the atrix on a lapdock, will everything be fine? (sorry i'm real out of date) Oh and i'm still on 1.8.3

ATT rep. told me " You would be able to use WiFi with the Motorola ATRIX LapDock, if you do no want the DataPro 4GB plan you can have the 200MB plan."
As far as I get - regular mobile internet (like 200Mb plan) wouldn't work in dock mode
Anyone know of a way to get this deal to Canada? Bell is still charging $299 for theirs...
=(
There are plenty of threads about the webtop hack that will let you use your current plan. It's ridiculous that they classify this as a separate device when it's the same exact hardware.

but do they all work long term though? I know a couple of those hacks have been only short term or even non working now that AT&T has gotten some smarts about them.
Culd anyone supply me with a link about the webtop tethering hack? Im interested since I just ordered one.
holy crap! buying one for myself and the wife for christmas!
i just got one from att yesterday...seezh i guess i got to call and get my $50back .....btw does anyone know if there is such a thing as an extender that can be used from these lapdocks to newer phones just curious
Would anyone be willing to ship one to Canada? I could send the total cost for it plus the shipping and what ever you would charge to do this through PayPal or pay to email?
Also, if I lived in the U. S. I would buy a few snd sell them on eBay, not everyone knows about the price yet, could make a few bucks there! Just a thought ;-)

I was just told by a rep (for what its worth) that those of us grandfathered into the unlimited data plans, we can use this on WiFi only without risking losing our unlimited data...
That's cause the datapro plan changes your plan. Use the search button for the webtop hack. I think its in Android Development. Its long term, just like the entitlement check for tethering.

[Q] Advice Needed - 3G or WiFi only?

Hello!
I'm thinking of getting myself the new nexus with 3G when it comes out, but there might be a problem.
I've looked over the forum for the original nexus 7 and seen there are a lot more custom roms or other goodies for the wifi only version. Will this be the case as well with this year's 7? Which one would you pick?
Thanks!

Keep in mind that the new N7 is actually LTE, whereas the old one was only HSPA+ (3.5G).
It really comes down to personal preference. Do you see yourself using it? Is it worth the added cost for the device, plus the added monthly fee ($10-50/month). Can you accomplish the same goal with tethering?
I got the N73G but opted for the non-LTE N7-2.
To answer your other question, I can almost certainly guarantee you that there will be less custom development for the LTE version compared to the non-LTE one. It comes down to the percentage of what people have, especially the developers. Many custom mods are generic and can be used on either type, but ROMs will be for one or the other.
I live in Europe and LTE plans are quite rare and expensive here, so I'd most likely only use it on 3G networks.
Is there any way a rom for the wifi-only version could be ported to the LTE one?

LTE is a waste for the initial purchase cost. An extra $10 a month for Verizon isnt bad but it isn't practical. That's why I have a phone.

Not worth it if you can can WIFI tether. Only case where you might want it is if you use VOIP, like Google Voice plus Groove IP, and SIM swap in place of your phone. Personally, not worth the $118 difference.
I like having 3G access on a tablet or laptop, it's just so nice to be able to just turn on and go. I do not trust any wifi that I don't have have full control of, a man in the middle attack is trivial. Even at Jury Duty, I used my 3G data instead of the free wifi. Thankfully I have an Ipad unlimited plan from ATT, so I don't ever worry about using too much data. Since my phone and phone data is only $35 and my ipad plan is $30, it's not to expensive. If my phone plan was $80+ then I probably would not have kept my ipad data plan. I'll be buying a Nexus 7 LTE.
So it will be 4G LTE? Any chance I'd be able to use it as a phone?

Easier and cheaper to just use a VPN if security is your main concern.

Yes.
Unknown, but unlikely if they follow the same as the N73G.

If ports aren't blocked. It's just a matter of ease of use. I pop into a clients office and don't have to ask wifi access or fumble with my phone. It's more professional. People are always impressed, I whip out the laptop, it boots in 7 seconds and 3 seconds later I'm connected to my server and working. Same at an airport and no dealing with congested accesspoints.
Once you have had an always connected device , you never want to go back to wifi.
